      @botanicalitus4194 Год назад

      so that number includes the deep web not just the dark web. The deep web is the part of the internet that stores things like passwords and encrypts information and stuff like that. When you make a password for a website that information has to go somewhere right? Thats the deep web and THAT is the majority of the internet. The dark web, which is the part of the web where all this scary stuff happens, is not the same as the deep web and it is thankfully NOT that expansive

    A little sidenote/correction: She deliberately gave the killers the wrong pin number 2960. In Japanese, 2960 can be transcribed as "ni-ku-mu-wa", which means "I hate you". It was her FU message to them. No way in hell was she ever going to give them her hard-earned money meant for her mother.

      I was curious about the details so I went and checked and, if anyone else is curious too, he and two other accomplices killed a pachinko store manager and his wife to rob them. Before killing Rie, he had also attacked an elderly woman to rob her. You can look up 碧南市パチンコ店長夫婦殺害事件 if you can read Japanese, the whole story just shows how much of a piece of shit this guy is. Him and his accomplices apparently concocted a crazy story and talked to the wife at length before killing her, she even gave them food and DNA found on the food was part of what led to conviction (there were also declarations by the accomplices). Thank you Enigma Drath for the further insight into the case.

      As a criminology student, capital punishment very rarely acts as a deterrent. It can even do the opposite. Some criminals might tell themselves "I've committed one murder, committing more won't make a difference because I will receive capital punishment either way". This way of thinking cannot be engaged in a country like Canada, where cumulative sentences can be given (ex. 1 murder = 25 years, 2 murders = can equal 50). We've seen this case with the man who shot up the Mosque in Montreal, who was sentenced to over 100 years (although this was overruled by the Supreme Court who gave a lesser punishment as it was seen inhumane and going against rehabilitative principles).

    Man, I just can't imagine the anguish and heartbreak Rie's mother was going through. It was bad enough that she lost her husband decades ago, But having her only child taken away and killed by 3 greedy, cruel and heartless men(Sure, one of those men turned himself in, and ratted out the other two, but I feel like he only did it to save his own skin). Then to know that the woman tried her BEST to get all three of these men sentenced to death only for two of them to get life. But I'm thankful to know that she was trying her very best to make sure that crimes like this doesn't happen to others. It's very tragic, but very heartwarming on her part and I hope this woman is doing well in her life now.

      You know, as a japanese major student we had a few discussions over the years whether or not death sentence should or should not exist. I always supported it, but this case just made me 101% sure that it should exist. Japanese people in majority still support this practise too. Even though their law system is kinda ruthless, with almost all court cases leaving the defendant guilty (while also following the rule of "guilty unless proven otherwise), which I really don't like, at least on the bright side this ruthlessness is helping murder victims' families find some peace and satisfaction knowing that their loved one was fully avenged. Don't take what you aren't willing to give away, you know? Simple as that.

      One thing about it is that it's public. It is much more of a deterrent if people actually see it.
      Moreover, they are not using the nice, clean lethal injections, believed by the public to be kind of like having your pet put to sleep by a vet. In the US, several times, they've used drugs for executions which are also used as lifesaving drugs by a significant number of people. These are foreign made, with their patents held by companies in the EU - which does not support capital punishments. Thus, this causes some people to worry that their life or quality-of-life saving medications will be cut off.

      You propose vigilante justice - a lack-of-system where mobs go after someone they dislike and meet out unregulated, often torturous punishments against people with little to no evidence.
      That's precisely why most civilized countries have courts of law, with rules of evidence, and punishment guidelines. All could do better to punish the guilty and free the unjustly accused, but it's far better than punishing a scapegoat and letting the criminals run free.

    Rie's mother is truly a pillar of strength. While the loss of her daughter is beyond tragic, she petitioned for harsher punishment of those who took her child so callously from this world, and now tries to prevent this from happening to others by educating the public. That has to bring up sad thoughts of her kind daughter, but she doesn't let that stop her. I feel wherever Rie's spirit may be, she is proud of her mother. Cuz her mom is making sure she did not die in vain and go forgotten. It's not really a consolation for her loss, but she is making something good come from one of the worst things to ever happen to her. It takes courage to do that, and I think others would have understood if she chose to keep to herself and never speak on it again. May her outreach and education help bring some peace to her broken heart.
