@PoppaRyno it's a great area to be in! They just got a huge flood this past week and the Sylamore has already dropped out. Gotta catch it fast! But if you can, it's one of the best!
@@AROwnBackyard heck yeah, it dumped rain hard. I live not far from the Syllamore & Calico Rock Area. We just got done loading up to go yak the White River.
It definitely looks like it would be in this video. But I doubt there are any. I think it gets too low most of the year for trout to make it. I'm pretty sure it does not get stocked.
One night in 2008 our band rocked Sylamore Creek Campground so hard that we had the creek flowing backwards….I remember seeing the house on top of the mountain flicking it’s lights on and off as we rocked it…I couldn’t see anybody in the crowd but I could hear them…right by the bridge in Allison…I’ll never forget that night…
Man this looks awesome 🤙 just did the buffalo for my first time now I'm looking for more in Arkansas. This one looks top of the list but a 4 and a half hour drive sadly.
It's definitely in my top 3 list! It's one you have to watch and be ready to go when it hits 3 ft. It drains fast. But if you can catch it, it's soooo worth it.
Paddled South Sylamore a few years back. Way smaller, lots of portages, crabby landowners, some really cool ones too tho… Beautiful lil creek. Been wanting to do this side tho, maybe my next trip. See anyone fishing? Thanks 🙏 for sharing man. I always love your videos. “10’s and 10’s of views” 😂 hahahahah I feel that brother… Ps.. the guy on the SU is a champ! And the water fall was awesome. Those low limbs could be bad if water was lil higher. Caught lots of trout, small mouth, and other panfish on South side up to white. Thanks 🙏 again.
haha, thanks brother! I don't remember seeing anyone fishing that day. But we surprisingly didn't see a lot of folks. And it was moving pretty swift. You would've had to stop to fish. It was constant action. Also, it empties so fast, that I don't know how well it supports fish year-round. It can get super low in the summer. Yeah, David is really really good on a paddleboard. He also has a kayak, but rarely uses it anymore because he enjoys the paddleboard.
@themarcusallen Thanks! Glad you like it. I actually don't know where the gauge is located. I just look at it on American Whitewater and the River App, both of which just list the level for the whole section from Barkshed to the White. But I'm like you, I want to go back and do the whole thing. I wish I had done it on that day because it was perfect!
Loving your kayak videos man! You need to do the Spring river when you get a chance. What kind of water shoes are you wearing? My toes and rocks don't get along.
Thanks Daniel! I'm glad you like the videos. And thanks for watching. I used to do the Spring River many years ago. It's just a little too crowded and rowdy for me now though. Maybe I'll hit the section below Many Islands takeout sometime. lol. My water shoes are Crocs Swiftwater mesh deck sandals. They've been great. Had them 7 years and they're still holding up.
@@AROwnBackyard Yes, it is best to go during the week and definitely not on a holiday weekend. From Many Islands to Hardy is a lot less crowded and rowdy.
Man that was a nice day trip you and Dave had. Nice weather and the water was clear too. Me and my family ( wife , 6th boys , & granddaughter ) we love to kayak & kayak camping. The waterfalls was nice man. Dave water boarding with the dog that was awesome to see. Tell Dave I like his Bedrock sandals. I have a pair of those that I kayak with. I like your Crocs that you was wearing too. I tried to pair of them but I couldn't get them to fit my extremely wide foot i have so i went with the Bedrock sandals. My foot is very very extremely wide sz15 6E wide with very chubby fat wide toes that are equally straight across making my foot very very wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrew shoes, socks, & boots when i was 18 years old & flip flops is the only footwear that will barely and i mean barely fit my foot because of my toes being equally straight across & being very very fat and wide. Good trip thank you for sharing I really enjoy watching it.
lol, I will let David know! :). We definitely could not have asked for a better day than this one. I'm glad you liked the video. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you! Glad you liked it. Yeah, this was May 7, 2022. I don't think we could have gotten any luckier with the flow than what we had that day. It was a perfect float!
Really enjoyed this video . I'm 65 yr old man and after see this it went right to the top of my to do list .so nice of you to share .I'm heading up to mountain view this week to visit my wife's family I don't own a kayak as of yet but was curious what one you use seemed to handle well .thankyou again .Rick
Hi Rick. In this video I'm using my Perception Pescador Pro 10. It's a 10-ft. sit-on-top. I really like it a lot. It does maneuver well but still tracks straight in flat water. Even though Sylamore Creek will be too low to float this week, it's still a beautiful area to visit. Barkshed and Gunner Pool campgrounds are upstream from Blanchard and are worth a visit. Thanks for leaving a comment. Glad you enjoyed the video!
@gez, I keep forgetting to ask you about the waterfall in this video. Around the 18:20 mark. Do you know this one? Approximate coordinates are: 35.955350, -92.130820
@@AROwnBackyard no, I’m not familiar with it. Will check out the coordinates though and see if I can find out more. If I can’t find anything, I’m voting for it being map added as ‘Paddleboard’ Falls lol!!
@@AROwnBackyard alas, floating for me stops in September. Leeds brings in sooooo much water when he wants up, I’d be soaked and freezing for a few hours at this time of year lol!
Yep, there are plenty of spots deep enough for a swim. One in particular is along a bluff line with a gravel bar across from the bluffs. That spot has a rope swing, which was featured in the video.
Great video. I can't wait to try it
Thanks! Glad you like it, and I appreciate the feedback. I can't wait to go do this one again!
this looks so perfect
We got so lucky that day. It was a perfect float!
Cool
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Thats awesome! Just moved to this area. Can’t wait to get on the water there.

Looks like that would be a great trout stream

I use to live in mountain view back in 1972 .... It's been 48 years ago. Can't wait to get there this coming month.....
It's a beautiful area! So much outdoors stuff to do
5 miles from where I was raised in downtown 56. My family homesteaded between Barkshed and Gunner Pool.
That's some beautiful country up there. You're very fortunate to have this stream in your backyard!
That looks amazing! Love the doggo!
@shelliglasow609 Thanks! This is without a doubt one of my top 3 favorite floats in the state
I’ve always wanted to do this float.
@afishyfella if you ever get a chance to catch this one just right, do it!!! It's one of my favorite floats
Cool spot!
@CasksnQue , one of the best spots!!!!
Awesome video ... thanks!

Thank you! I hope I get a chance to hit this one again!

Some sleeper smallys in that swimming hole you launched at.
Oh yeah? I'll have to take a fishing pole next time and wade around out there. It's a little too fast to fish out of the kayak. At least for me it is.
Awesome float man.
Thanks, it really is. Instantly one of my favorites. Can't wait to go back and do the longer float. Thanks for watching!
Sylamore is pretty awesome! We swim and tube on it.

The spot he is referring to is rosea hole, as we locals call it

What’s wrong with Newport?
@Blue Summers - LOL, nothing! It's just the first town that popped in my mind that's on the White River...and it's a LONG way downriver!
There is a lot wrong with Newport.
