3 hours from your car. It's midnight. 6 hours and the sun comes up. It totally AMAZES me how people never think the sensible option. Chill here for a few hours and pretty soon I'll be able to see. I'll see the track and the chances of breaking my legs is far less.

Well the dark in places like that is complete. Going out without supplies and then walking in the dark was bad, but its easy for even the experienced to become lost in the wilderness. Growing up in the wild we were taught ways to avoid getting lost, but also ways to hold out if/when we do get lost sense it was so easy to have happen.

Even just a big a** arrow, pointing to where you are. Takes less energy to make a large, visible arrow. I was thinking the same thing when I watched the dude that got lost in western Australia trying to find gold, too. He also saw multiple planes and they actually were searching for him so putting anything recognizably man made, large enough to see from the air, raises chances of being found by a huge amount.

I don't understand why people respond to unfamiliar territory by pushing ahead further into even more unfamiliar territory. I'm sure everyone has heard that if you get lost, stay where you are. I went out on a very short hike about 10 years ago, it was supposed to last about 45 minutes. it turned out to last about 2 hours, and really drained me. I was rehabbing, and half the time used a four wheeled walker with a seat! The ladies retreat I was attending talked me into going on this "easy hike"--which turned out to be very challenging for me. I hydrated well the day before, and that day before I left. Making sure I drank 16 ounces of water before I left for the hike. Then I took 16.9 ounces of water with me on the hike in my back pack, along with a first aide kit, small blanket and flashlight and fire starting kit--just in case--since we were starting out after 2pm. WE did not get back to the lodge until after 4:30pm easy, and I was totally exhausted and out of water. I wished I had taken about 3 bottles of water. My legs cramped and I had had to sit down and rest for 45 minutes before continuing the hike. I felt pretty foolish. I have NEVER done that again!
I stick to city sidewalks and areas that can accommodate my walker, and I always have about 64 ounces of water with me in my large insulated thermos--with ice. I carry another bottle of water just in case. I would rather bring home water than run out. Lesson learned.

@ambidextrousshooter6463 Signaling mirrors are included in miltary survival kits. They come with built-in "aiming system" which is basically just a see through area at their center because if they're aimed correctly, they can definetely be effective at getting the attention of low flying aircraft...especially if the aircraft is already looking for survivors. It's a lot better than no signaling device.

Just starting this video but this guy goes to a place he’s never been before and thinks it’s a good idea to hike at night in an unknown desolate, area, all alone with just a flashlight.

I visited that volcano when I went to the big island years ago but I did it the safe way and went with a tour bus and walked over the barn lava, stuff trying to go alone you needed someone who knew the land.

He seems the nicest guy 😢. Things can go wrong so quickly. Whoever told him to go at night should have warned him how dangerous the terraon can be. So glad he made it out. And I bet he never goes anywhere without water. Bless the kid who saw him.

I think there must be already have happened many other situations around the world that could inspire new episodes... for example, in Brazil a guy was taken by a wave and have spent five days in a island; in Hawaii a woman got lost for 17 days... these all could be very good episodes.

Being a person who is extremely experienced with this sort of thing, this seems like close to somethinf i could have done myself in the beginning of my outdoor life. This stuff is strange for those who grew up in the city

Let's do some basic math together... since 1 day equals 24 hours, we know that 2 days equals 48 hours (2x24) and 3 days equals 72 hours (3x24). So you see, if you've been lost for 77 hours, that's 3 days and 5 hours... not 5 days. Again, this is called basic math.

I’ve been to that area to see the volcano. There’s an observatory that looks over the volcano field. I would think the monitors would detect people out there. Then again, it is an incredible amount of land so the observatory may not cover everything.
