🤔I’ve noticed that a lot of times when “tragedy” or “bad luck” strikes, it’s because the people took a “more difficult, less traveled route” or they disregard weather warnings altogether....it’s usually some sort of deviation from the normal routine....no matter how slight that causes a number of catastrophic occurrences to then take place putting their lives at risk. It’s absolutely crazy😅

I wanted to jump with some friends but my parachute wasn’t folded. I borrowed a smaller, much faster parachute the required a lot more skill to maneuver. At about 40 mph I hit a concrete post with my sacrum which broke into r pieces. Both legs broken too, two discs in my spine completely herniated and biting into my nerve medular canal. I did go out of my routine and took an unnecessary risk just not to miss a plane ride.

In the DVD set there was a "making of" that showed some of the creative process. Much of the climbing, kayaking, backcountry stuff is actually in the wild, just never that far from the safety of a road, camp, helicopter, etc. Very creatively used camera angles to make things seem bigger, grander than they were at times. Some of the underwater shots were done in pools, some pretty creative stuff there.

The decision to go out on his own to find help for him and his friends and continuing that endeavor with broken legs is heroic. Afterwards, even though Steve is disabled, he continues on with his life and does more things than I even do. I'm sure it was so easy to fall into depression over the situation but heis thriving. Similarly, car travel is way more deadly than commercial air travel, but the many videos on plane crashes, and almost none on car crashes, make some people say “no way will I fly….I will just drive instead.” You are also safer in most national parks than in the suburbs, but these videos make some people think being in the outdoors is a death trap.

They should of turned around once they reached that football field then hiked back the next day and set up a new base camp at 18,000 ft and then tackle the last 2000 ft the next day. Easy for me to say but that would of been a much safer plan going on after that point in those winds was almost suicidal. To Steve's credit he did find the quickest way down the mountain.

That is what i was thinking.. as soon as clouds form and wind gusts up, you need to leave at once! I experienced winds in Winter just on a plateau at 2000 m above sea level and the wind chill let temperatures drop to -35 degree celsius! You could literally FEEL freezing cold in a matter of Minutes! I went down as fast as I could. Those winds on Denali must be deadly even for the most pros.
