Can't you just achieve the same result by turning on "dynamic contrast" to a low setting on the S90D? TV's have had that feature for 15 years now, it's not some black magic. It's just a histogram analysis of the frame and then a stretch of the contrast with some s-curve on luminance. Apparently LG copied Sony on the G4 with some undefeatable dynamic contrast that you can't turn off even in the most accurate picture modes like Filmmaker, and I've got to say comparing Game vs Filmmaker on my G4 I can see it, and yes it makes the picture pop a bit more, but it's nothing that I couldn't achieve with the dynamic contrast setting so there's no reason for any of these TV makers to be forcing everyone to have it. btw my G4 has terrible uniformity but other than that it's pretty good.
Can't see the difference in image you're saying. Bit if it is slower, it is a real problem. Samsung is making me regret more and more buying its TV. I am already disappointed it didn't came with qdoled, dtsx and the dolby vision (this last one I knew when I bought). But I'll probably my never buy a Samsung again. I should get a LG c4 instead.
