I wouldn’t really consider the Twin princes to be a gank fight considering Lothric hardly does anything, it doesn’t feel like you’re dealing with 2 threats at once it feels more like you’re fighting Lorain but he gains some extra attacks
Sister Friede and Ariandel is by far my favourite gank Boss in Soulsborne. I know it's only one of three phases, but I've always considered this as gank fight and it is perfectly balanced with one slower enemy, one faster, one less aggressive, one more aggressive. And without any weird glitches or AI behaviors, unlike in fight Ornstein & Smough.
Darklurker is a single enemy that just can split itself into two enemies similar to Pontiff Sulivan. The Abyss Watchers at least involves two enemies at the start with it being possible to attract agro of both by accident.
I have a fun story for Ornstein and smough. During my first playthrough I heard everyone say OandS were so hard but when I fought them I had a summon to explore Amir London and summoned solaire so it was a 3v2 and they got destroyed. That was the most fun fight
People do say say it’s a hard boss fight because they do it solo. Because of their capacities to close gaps faster than the fun you get fighting the godskin duo disappears, they cover each other very well and you can only get damage consistently when they are separate. That’s why having one summon in this fight is infinitely better here than on any other boss fight because each person can go to one side of the arena and get some 1v1 action
@titesyl1023 no thanks with havel you're bound to lose I remain with my gold hemmed set and am able to dodge swings instead of forcing my hp to deplete by being fat😅 I mean there's no necessity for tankiness if you do the dos part right anyway 2-3 kings should be standard
4:05 But sometimes , ı know it don't happen to much its rare but still sometimes both of them attack you with halberd or both of them breathing fire to you
Both attacking with their halbert is really rare because of how gang fights are handled in Ds1, bot both using fire breath isn’t rare at all. Most people end up with the two of them with fire breath for at least 1-2 minutes in this fight
3:03 “Maybe it’s just the Ruin Sentinels’ music that keeps it up” I see a lot of praise for the Ruin Sentinels’ theme online, but my experience with it wasn’t as favorable. I remember being mid-fight when it dawned on me why I was getting this prickling feeling of embarrassment, it was because the background music sounded like such a cheesy and generic ‘boss fight song’ that it was taking me out of the experience and reminding me that I’m just playing a game, watching a zombie man roll around on the floor. I’ve warmed up to it after going to listen to the track in isolation, but I’ll never forget it as the one and only boss theme that lessened my enjoyment of the fight it was underscoring.
Also, to my knowledge it shares the same theme as Smelter Demon and Blue Smelter Demon, which I'm not a huge fan of because it makes no sense for the Ruin Sentinels to have the exact same theme. Not a bad track by any means, but there are much better ones in the game
Darklurker may not quite fit your definition bc of the shared healthbar, but it deserves a spot on the list. By far my favourite fight in DS2 even including DLC
No Godskin Duo, eh? Kidding, of course. It's funny how you describe your experience with the Demon Princes, cause it's exactly how mine went. First time up against them, I thought they were almost impossible. Struggled and struggled against them, death after countless death. Every time since that I've fought them, it's seemed much more fair. Still difficult, but much more manageable. I have actually grown in appreciation of this fight considerably and it would rank very high in a list of favorite Souls bosses. I love that you can stab em' in the head for that extra damage, as well as how their glowing bodies light up the otherwise dark arena. It's very cool!
i adore the demon princes but the fact that they can somtimes simultaneously be active and wont stop ganking you is kinda bullshit. also ye ornstein's charge is one of the weirdest move knwon to man.
I’m doing a cleric run of the Souls trilogy right now: cleric starting gear + miracles. The Four Kings were hell, since 1) I had no poise, and 2) cast time for miracles in DS1 is painfully long if you don’t pump Dexterity (which I didn’t). I cracked and put on Havel’s armor to finish the fight.
So it may seem stupid but I really like the Prowling Magus and Congregation. You just walk in on a sermon and proceed to pub stomp them all. It's a ton of fun every playthrough lmao.
First time i fought the sentinels I was under leveled and used all my effigies and they whittled my health to one shot. I had a friend drop me an effigy if I remember right. Refused to restart
The twin crucible knights arent too bad if you can parry. Theyre my favorite enemies to fight in Elden Ring just because of how easy they are to parry.
O&S are my favorite fight in the series. They have 1 buggy attack that honestly isn’t even hard to handle… but thematically, it trumps all the other gank fights
I don't personally like the shadows that much, but I understand why you love them and also I've fought them around 4 times now and have never seen the giant snake attack. Also if you're struggling, than putting on the impurity rune (the on that you get from the league guy at the first shortcut) will allow you to summon two NPCs and you can get them to fight the mage and candle shadow while you chain parry the katana guy
Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but the Ruin Sentinels AI doesn't "activate" by killing the first sentinel per se. They're all active at all times,, but programmed in such a way that they will slowly make their way over to where you are. If you take too long with the first sentinel up on the platform, the second will jump up there, and if somehow you haven't died the third one also eventually joins. It's just more likely you'll first either get knocked down by the first two sentinels, or take the fight down to the big area yourself. You can usually kill the first before the second jumps up, and do decent damage on the second before going down is the more viable option. I don't exactly love the fight, but it's good when done this way.
It might be DS2 weirdness. It could be just proximity based. From my experience though, they are active at pretty much all times, and do join you on the upper ledge. But the game can do weird things sometimes.
Four kings do be the best lord soul boss fight, but it’s still a bad boss fight : just get in the boss face, put Havel’s set, bring 20 estus flasks and pray you have enough dps to kill each king before an other on comes. Also, this fight do be the pain of existence of any challenge run
I might be alone in this but I've always considered Deacons Of The Deep to be a gank boss, and a good one at that. In general there's something about the design of the deacons themselves that really grabs me, and while the fight is pretty easy, it was a bit of a challenge on my first playthrough and is probably my second favorite early game fight after Abyss Watchers.
Deacons of the deep is arguably the best boss fight in gaming history, definitely the best soulsborne boss. Absolutely nothing comes close to the enemy design, the actual gameplay during the fight is extremely fun and my GOD that soundtrack is amazing. I genuinely found the rest of dark souls 3 really boring because nothing came close to being as good as that fight
I finally have a tip, four kings if you're going to bring a shield bring the crest shield that you get from the knight guy back in the undead prison where you first came from as it has 100% physical and 85% magic damage negation making most of the four kings attacks completely pointless
They are really 3 to 5 shields viable in Ds1 : bucket shield for parry, crest shield either as a normal shield + stamina regen boost (which is why it’s probably the most used shield in the game, especially when the stamina regen still works when you have it on your back), the sanctus for the health regen even if you don’t have the stats for it, the bleed shield to counter than one curved sword from the dlc or for a Lifehunter scythe, and Havel’s shield for great shields because why would you use an other great shield than this one ?
I disagree with you but a personal opinion on something in a video game doesn’t make you wrong, you are entitled to your own thoughts, but I would like to hear why, it’s always nice to see different points of view on things you like
I think Dark Souls slow movement kinda ruined them for me tbh, I came after beating Bloodborne and Elden Ring which prob made my whole experience w/Dark Souls much worse tbh but ya these two kinda just felt unfair when I was playing
Well basically. The fight is unfair. Everyone knows how ass ornstein's charge attack is, so I won't talk about that. I find it really stupid that they can attack your through the pillars and through EACHOTHER, so I'm trying to get a hit on smough and all of a sudden, BAM! Ornstein did his jump slam attack and I'm dead. People say ornstein is the fast one and smough is the slow one, but it honestly feels like smough is almost, if not just as fast as ornstein at times. I think smoughs charging attack is just really weird to dodge, because sometimes I dodge right, but if I do the exact same thing later he hits me. I also think the fight could have been balanced better. Instead of both of them being fast and doing insane amounts of damage, make ornstein fast and do less damage than smough, so that getting hit by attacks that are harder to dodge are less punishing. The AI is also possibly the worst in the entire game. It feels like the 2 bosses were just put in a room and are completely unaware of eachother's existence. I have seen countless times how ornstein gets pushed around by smough doing his charging attack while he's in front of him. And I have already mentioned ornstein just attacking you through smough. I always kill smough first because it's easier for me, and big ornstein just loses his single Braincell and will repeatedly do the backwards jump attack while he's against a wall
I’m with you, I have never enjoyed the fight. Always felt like you’re forced to hug and exploit the base of the pillars to have a chance to pick one of them off. Always felt really time consuming and a snail-like pace of battle. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but I truly believe a lot of people “love” this fight because other people on the internet say it is popular to.
My favourite is the The Blade Bearer and Cannoneer boss fight from Code Vein. Your list is great but for me Ornstein and Smough will always be number 1❤
Like colossal enemies gank fights do suffer from the fundamental problem of running up against the mechanics of Souls and -likes… Dying to the camera can feel unfair more than dodging a move wrong so the gank fights that mitigate this the best are the best ganks in my view. My arbitrary measure of quality is to look at the difficulty (or annoyance) of creating a safe damage window and I absolutely agree with the number one on this list. From entrance to finish that fight is a blast. There hasn’t been a better boss team since and I hope that SotE follows the From formula of DLC showing their mastery of what they intended to do with the games since Prepare to Die.
demon prince would be my number 1 as well, such an epic first boss to start the final dlc. ringed city still beats all elden ring had to offer so far, lets see if the elden ring dlc can beat it maybe, i doubt it.
A little sad about not seeing Eldest of the Black Rabbit Brotherhood on here, but other than that, really great list (But seriously, the Crucible Knight Duo can go piss a hundred miles off XD)
Problem with the Four Kings is RNG. They’re solid in concept, but if the first one wants to float away from you and cast spells, or use the grab that’s time expensive, even if you dodge it and have to chase them down, makes the boss way too luck oriented
Idk man Dark Souls 2's Royal Rat Vanguard is the best gank fight in the entire series. Definitely the hardest boss I've ever fought. Maybe Prowling Magus and Congregation beats it out for tougher though. I only made it through because i had summoned two people in that were way higher level than me and they carried.
Headless app duo isn't _that_ bad, as long as you have firecrackers it's at least kind of manageable. Wouldn't be surprised to see it somewhere on the list though.
@@ahmedisam2533 I get that, they're definitely not a good fight, but there's way more annoying gank bosses in Soulsborne that don't have any clear counters

On casual playthroughs you'll have enough damage and health to trade with them and get away with it, but on a challenge run like SL1 where you actually need to respect their moveset, you realise they're just as bad as Godakin Duo in alot of ways and worse in some others.
@@DmonicHollow Its a 2v1, pretty sure thats what constitutes a gank. If he included twin princes in the ranking, which technically isn't even a gank fight, then I can include pontiff
@@BillySYT that boss fight is just badly designed, Ornstein is straight up the jankiest and glitchiest enemy in the game, he can shoot projectiles and stab you through smough and his dash is indefensible In phase 2 it gets even worse since he gets upscaled and his hitboxes/animations become unbearable Smough on the other hand is a perfectly fine asylum demon reskin
I don’t really like the demon princess I hate how when you kill one you haft to kill the other one because then the other one to easy and it gets really boring and the second phase also has to much hp it also gets really boring and a drag to do every time do get to the 2 phase I think oas does it better with you only having to kill one and the 2 phase does not have that much health but oas have some bad hitboxes when they can hit you threw the pillars and each other but I still like there fight better
I know Im in the minority here, but personally I wouldn't even include O&S on this list. I don't really hate the fight, but they have one fatal flaw that really makes them unenjoyable to me - with DS1 slowness and how often their attacks overlap, they encourage an extremely defensive playstyle, unless you are absolutely amazing at dodging them. I just don't enjoy fights where you are expected to spend majority of them running away.
Fextralife having wrong info is like saying the Abyss Watchers are great. It's stating the obvious Your boyfriend not liking them at all though, you said it. You can fix him 🤣
Shadows of Yharnam is the most underrated fight. Ornstein and Smough is the most overrated one. The concept from it is what should be praised, but the execution is too buggy and random for me to enjoy it every time I play it. Demon Princes is better in every way tho, no arguing there.
O & S is trash with many glitches, Ornstein cancels his animations, Smough has cancer hitboxes and there are lingering hitboxes during transition, you can just die in second phase from attack executed in first phase. Seems like you are very casual player and don't really know much about these games, if you think that Shadows of Yharnam is bad Boss.
Only when they’re on the same level of quality. The only one I think is at the level of from sorts games is lies of p. Other than that I don’t think any of the others should be on these lists
@@RecoveringPocketGamer "including Souls-Likes to a Top Ten Souls-Likes defeats the purpose"... The idea of including completely separate games into a list about a specific franchise (or chain of franchises I guess) is stupid, but that comment is little better.

I actually really like the godskin Duo. Yes, I exist, no, I didn't want to, I wanted to hate it, but I really like it.
Sleep pots users be like
Demon Prince 🗣
Where was my boy darklurker!!
Shadows of Yharnam being number 2 is criminal
Should be #1 tbh
Good Gank, but forgettable even in it's own game.
Black rabbit brotherhood should have been on this list. Why not rank Lies of P alongside the souls games?
Npc boss fights ranked? It would be cool
Solaire after he finds his « sun » do be the saddest ever, especially if you didn’t know you could save him with 30 humanities
@@titesyl1023 it's not really a npc boss fight tho, for example halflight is a npc boss fight
where is darklurker
its my personal favorite fight in the entire series (weird opinion ik)
Im not sure i understood the rules, shouldnt Darklurker be fitting for the list? One of the best fights...
Billy, Where did you go in Spain?😮
Damn, the OG Maneaters get no respect. Cerah/Varg/Graverobber too.
Yeah, maybe tune in to my Worst List on Tuesday
@@BillySYTOoooh can't wait!
i believe that maneaters is 1
Someday people will realize that Godskin Duo is an excellent fight.
????
@@evelinetheoofdemon6003 Like I said. It's an amazing fight when you learn it and fight them properly: ruclips.net/video/TYmQOS9ONcE/видео.html
@@evelinetheoofdemon6003 Like I said. It's really fun when you actually learn it and fight them properly: ruclips.net/video/TYmQOS9ONcE/видео.html
Lies of P deserves to be in those ranking more than Sekiro imo, Sekiro just is a masterpiece but it isn't a soulsgame
1. Abyss watchers
2. Burnt ivory king
3. Demon princes
4. Twin princes
5. Friede
6. Pontiff
7. Ornstein and smough
8. Ruin sentinels
9. Gravetender
I genuinely think shadows of yharnam and four kings are trash
Pontiff? Last I checked he’s not a gank fight which if your counting his shadow in his second phase I’d say that’s a big reach
@@DmonicHollow Its a 2v1, pretty sure thats what constitutes a gank. If he included twin princes in the ranking, which technically isn't even a gank fight, then I can include pontiff
Top 5 bosses are great except Shadows of Yarham 😬
Top 2 is perfect
Ornstein should never be mentioned in a best boss video
That's your opinion :)
@@BillySYT that boss fight is just badly designed,
Ornstein is straight up the jankiest and glitchiest enemy in the game, he can shoot projectiles and stab you through smough and his dash is indefensible
In phase 2 it gets even worse since he gets upscaled and his hitboxes/animations become unbearable
Smough on the other hand is a perfectly fine asylum demon reskin
You'd rather have a top 9 than put Sister Friede in a top gank video haha
You mean Bottom Nine Gank Fights
I wonder what number 1 is gonna be lol. Rhymes with smornstein and ough?
I don’t really like the demon princess I hate how when you kill one you haft to kill the other one because then the other one to easy and it gets really boring and the second phase also has to much hp it also gets really boring and a drag to do every time do get to the 2 phase I think oas does it better with you only having to kill one and the 2 phase does not have that much health but oas have some bad hitboxes when they can hit you threw the pillars and each other but I still like there fight better
I still think they are the number 2 best gang fight tho
And the shadow definitely deserves number three I love that fight it my 7 fav fight in blood born
You should add in lies of p to the lists. It’s better than a good chunk of from software games so it’s not out of place quality wise
Dude I get you like it but that's just disrespectful
I know Im in the minority here, but personally I wouldn't even include O&S on this list. I don't really hate the fight, but they have one fatal flaw that really makes them unenjoyable to me - with DS1 slowness and how often their attacks overlap, they encourage an extremely defensive playstyle, unless you are absolutely amazing at dodging them. I just don't enjoy fights where you are expected to spend majority of them running away.
That’s why I always take my best weapon for them : Solaire
Fextralife having wrong info is like saying the Abyss Watchers are great. It's stating the obvious
Your boyfriend not liking them at all though, you said it. You can fix him 🤣
Souls like dont belong with the actual soulsborn and sekiro and elden ring
Shadows of Yharnam is the most underrated fight.
Ornstein and Smough is the most overrated one.
The concept from it is what should be praised, but the execution is too buggy and random for me to enjoy it every time I play it.
Demon Princes is better in every way tho, no arguing there.
Shadows of Yharnam are trash and putting them above O&S? Enjoy the downvote.
Nobody other than Billy ever called those nazgul cosplayers a good boss so idk what you're smoking, kid @@suchar7175
O&S > Demon Prince
no, on like every metric no.
darklurker good, Abyss watchers is a glorified NPC fight that’s carried by its lore. Pretty boring fight overall.
Elden Ring is no Soulsborne game why would you do this to the list?
Unpopular opinion:
Souls-likes are legitimate Souls games and should be considered in lists like these.
Only when they’re on the same level of quality. The only one I think is at the level of from sorts games is lies of p. Other than that I don’t think any of the others should be on these lists
Absolutely not as none should be compared to the ones that made the souls-like genre in the first place, it would defeat the point of lists like these
@@RecoveringPocketGamer I disagree. The difference in quality between Lies of P’s boss fights and Dark Souls 2’s is staggering.
@@RecoveringPocketGamer "including Souls-Likes to a Top Ten Souls-Likes defeats the purpose"...
The idea of including completely separate games into a list about a specific franchise (or chain of franchises I guess) is stupid, but that comment is little better.
I love Cerah the Old Explorer, Ancient Soldier Varg & the Afflicted Graverobber gank goon squad!
They really thought they were THEM trying to jump me & not giving me the fair 1v1. 😂
Love the Throne Watcher & Defender too a dynamic duo up there with Guy & Kakashi 😂.
I definitely fuck with the Crucible duo cause its 2 of them badasses working together up there with Kisame & Itachi 😂 they are annoying af & like most bosses in Elden Ring wambo combo too damn much but it is extremely intense but more on the fair side than fighting an ulcerated tree spirit or the haunting thought of a ulcerated tree spirit duo in that crappy boss arena ☠️😒
