    So, fun fact. Thor's goats are actually from Norse mythology. Their names are Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr, and, according to legend, every day, Thor would kill them and eat their flesh, and then use Mjolnir to bring them back to life (as long as their bones didn't break, they would return to life). I'm pretty sure that Thor's joke about "using the goats for meat... ing people" is a reference to that.

    Keep in mind that it is all told through the filter of Korg telling the tale of the Mighty Thor around a campfire.
    Fun fact: Gor's daughter Love was portrayed by Hemsworth’s real-life daughter, India Hemsworth. In fact, she wasn’t the only Hemsworth child to appear in the film or even the only leading actor’s kid to take part in the production. During an interview with Marvel, it was revealed that all three of Hemsworth’s kids joined the feature, with Natalie Portman’s son and daughter, Christian Bale’s kiddos, and one of director, Taika Waititi’s daughter’s also holding credits.

The fact that the shadow monsters were drawn by kids & then adapted by cg animators, in addition to the climax that sees all the children become powered up like Thor, it was clear who this movie was intended for. Marvel has been all about inclusion lately and Love & Thunder was about showing that the kids , in addition to the terminally ill, can be heroes too.

    The dark lord that Rapu talked about is named Kaa the Shadow Lord and in the comics, he was the most obscure and dangerous being ever because he shape-shift into what you look like and his voice is a mixed of a female or male child, an adult and a elderly person. He is the apprentice of a dark being that can't be mess with. Also, Taika Watiti took out some Christian Bale scenes from the movie because they were too violent like one is when he took the necrosword and killed his own god, he used a stone to slash his forehead and his arms like the markings that Gorr had in the movie and second is that there's was a transition of Gorr torturing and butchering different gods in a very violent way that it is too violent to show and supposed to be a extended cut but Taika Watiti didn't wanted it at all. The shadow monsters were inspired by children's nightmares or drawings explaining their nightmares. In fact the part I said about Gorr's markings, he also change his teeth almost to a shark and his nails like a lizard.

    Love and Thunder is soooo cheesy, but I love it! Its amazing that Taika blended a beautiful love story, horror film, and action in this wonderful movie.
    Not my original thought, saw it in another comment section... but a really interesting and meaningful parallel is that the movie starts with Gorr praying to a God that doesn't care about Gorr or his daughter, a god that is a freakin asshole.
    And in the end Gorr comes around and asks another God for help, and finally, this God, Thor answers Gorrs wishes and takes care of his daughter.

I WANT to love it, and I really liked Jane's story, I liked Gor, I liked the kids getting juiced with lightening, etc. I even liked the screaming goats, but like a lot of the humor in this movie, it was just too much! I felt the same way. Thor never got any screen time to show his recovery from all his losses (parents, Loki, half the Asgardians that Thanos killed on the ship, etc.) and this movie added someone else he was about to lose. Then they made it the most humor-filled, cheesiest of his films. It was fun, and funny but I would have loved a more serious, drama-filled movie at this stage in Thor's development.

    • @zebrion5793
      @zebrion5793 Год назад +1

      I think the biggest problem is that they tried to take 2 monumental Thor stories and make them one movie. In the process, they lessened both. Jane as Mighty Thor was a whole arc of its own, and very well written. Gorr was a groundbreaking story and probably the best Thor story ever written - and they gave FAR too little time to Gorr's powers and explaining just how much of a threat he was. I think they could've just shown more of him actually killing significant gods and shown off the power of the necrosword (which shouldn't have looked like a shiny sword at all, but a shadow). They could've dropped more hints at the origin of the necrosword (being Knull the Symbiote God). Gorr was such a high tier villain for Thor and they turned him into a guy with some shadow monsters and not much else. Physically, Gorr was MORE than a match for Thor in the comics, beating him down several times. He was only beaten by bringing in 3 different versions of Thor (past, present and future). Two of the Thors died, and Odinson was finally able to beat Gorr ONLY by wielding 2 Mjolnirs AND the all-black necrosword.
      Even with all that, Gorr STILL wasn't completely gone, and came back later, became a literal universe, and Thor had to ascend to a whole new level of power in order to destroy him for good.
      I hate how the MCU lowers the power of their villains so much. They did the same thing with Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos was able to defeat EVERY cosmic entity at the same time in the comics. The "heroes" were literally nothing to him and couldn't do anything, even with perfect strategy. In the MCU, they turned him into a brute with a nonsensical motive and make him just a slightly smarter Hulk. So much wasted potential.

    Denmark and Scandinavian "Space Viking" here. What a lot of Marvel fans seem to have missed is, that Thor seem to be a simple minded and funnier character in most of this movie, because it's Korg who is the narrator, so everything except from the very "bleak" start and up until the last part, is presented through the mind and eyes of Korg, who not coincidentally is voiced and motion-captured by Taika Waititi himself. A fun fact, Thursday is actually also named after Nordic Mythology, with Thursday meaning "Thor's Day" and coincidentally, Chris Hemsworth was actually born on a Thursday (Thor's Day).

    @funnylilgalreacts,
    40:27 The title likely refers to all three key figures: Thor (Jane Foster), Love (Gorr's daughter) and Thunder (Thor Odinson).
    Jane will likely return as Valkyrie. After she was Mighty Thor in the comics, she became Valkyrie. King Valkyrie is unable to do her job as a Valkyrie since she's doing Thor's job; hence the name, "King" Valkyrie.
    I loved this movie as much as I did Ragnarok. Thor has come a long way from his first movie--he was hero amongst his own people, but he was a stuck up jerk of a god like the one's Gorr killed. Loki, Jane and Odin all played a pivotal part in the humbling of Thor. He's still not the god he needs to be, but he's getting there. Those who loved Gorr in the comics tend to hate (dislike?) this movie because they didn't get to see Gorr kill god after god. I personally felt it wasn't needed. We heard about it, and we got to see how powerful he was a number of times when he fought and defeated Thor, Jane and Valkyrie. Besides, anyone still holding out for the MCU to make a comic book movie, after 14 years of the MCU being different needs to wake up. It's been 14 years of the MCU showing people the world over movie after movie that it's not the comics. It's not going to suddenly change now, lol. The original comics have gone on for more than 50 years and rebooted themselves numerous times. The MCU isn't doing that either. Look at the original founding Avengers in the MCU. Nearly all of them got a completed story arc. Thor and Hulk are the last to get theirs.
    I also find it strange for people to complain about phase 4 after watching what happened in phase three. Why would you compare these two phases, when the founding team has died/retired? Phase four is building the next generation of heroes, and these heroes are figuring out who they are and haven't come across their Ultron or Thanos yet, let alone one another to be their own team, so of course the stories aren't as connected, action packed as the previous phases of the MCU. That's all about to change, however, but I'm sure they'll still complain about stories not being like this or that comics =/
    Marvel already has its comic book readers. The MCU is trying to expand beyond those folks, and to do that it needs to make changes and be more assessible to people that wouldn't normally pay them any mind, and the MCU formula is working. Maybe not for some comic book readers, but they aren't trying to get comic book readers to give them a chance--they've got them.
    Anyway, another fun review =D

    I loved this movie so much lol. I get it might be overly goofy for some but it's rare that a movie can be both Hilarious AND F'ing Awesome AND touched me emotionally. I love those meme's where you see something like Batman using a lightsaber to fight a shark, or a T-Rex flying a jet fighter and the caption says something like "This thread is now F'ing awesome!" It also helps the my own sense of humor is somewhat on the goofy/bent/corny/dad pun side lol. Humor is tricky, it can be so subjective based on personal experience, and it can be so ephemeral as well (rare that a joke can me you laugh when heard multiple times). You may not have found it as funny as me but I still enjoyed the reaction :)

    A big flaw in the plot is that Gorr's whole thesis is that god are jerks who don't care about anyone, but his plan depended on Thor being willing to come and rescue the kidnapped children.
    I'd be interested to know how finding the screaming goats funny correlates being a pet owner.
    Thor sharing his power with the kids was awesome, because it was a complet refutation of Gorr's claim - something he'd never have predicted Thor doing in a million years.
    Gorr's daughter was played by Chris Hemsworth's daughter (and the wolf woman by his wife, and a couple of the younger Thors by his sons). The film was full of Hemsworths.

    In addition to Chris Hemsworth's son Sasha, the kidnapped children also include Natalie Portman's, Christian Bale's and Taika Waititi's kids. And 3/5 is pretty much my rating too. It's a good movie, but not a great one. I don't know much about Gorr in the comics, but from what I hear, he is a big deal. Christian Bale gave a great performance, but the tone of the movie didn't give Gorr any gravitas.

    funny, in the 1980s, Avengers comics, Hercules was on the team with Sersi and White Vision and Tygra , he was beefier and maybe a little older than what that actor looked like.

    The girl who plays Gor's daughter, Love, is Chris Hemsworth's real daughter. The fact that the song playing is "Sweet Child of Mine" I believe was intentional because of their real father/daughter relationship. Also, Chris's son was in the movie as well. At the beginning, when you see Thor growing up in the running scene, the youngest child in that scene is his son.

    funny, if you thought the goats were bad sounding, in Norse lore, Frigga, his mom, rode a chariot pulled by cats, and they might have been large like Battle cat from He man, but they might have been regular cats and they might have sounded like the cats from Monty Python and The Holy Grail , when the woman is beating her cat against a wall like a rug

    Great review. 3 out of 5 seems legit. I knew we wouldn't get another ragnarok, which for me is a high point in the mcu.
    But I also want to compliment your nails! On video that color looks exactly like an OPI polish I have (uh... "feel bluetiful" which I hoped would be more turquoise than teal.) But I digress.
    Again, great reaction! I enjoyed the film more watching through your reaction than I did the first time.

    I actually liked Gorr's character in the ending. The whole reason he became a God Butcher was because they neglected them and allowed his daughter to die. After bringing her back and he himself is dying, he once again begs a God to protect her. Only this time, the God listens.

    Honestly, I wish I could see the movie Christian Bale was filming before Taika stole the footage and added it to his Thor movie. The performances of Bale vs. the rest of the cast feel like 2 different movies and I would have much preferred to see the darker tone that Bale's acting had set.
    I was/am one of the Thor fans that liked "serious Thor" before Ragnarok completely re-did his characterization, so on a petty level I'm finding glee in people realizing this movie is too-Taika. Oh well, we'll get a chance to see Thor again!

    In the comics, as well as Norse mythology, there was a god names Tyr, who had one hand because he sacrificed it in the mouth of the Fenris the wolf (Ragnarok) so I think they are setting up Sid for that type of role. Hercules was prominent in the comics and in the Avengers. So I’m interested to see what and how they use these characters.

    I liked the film and didn't mind the shifts in tone. One has to wonder though if Marvel will reign in the directors more because of the lukewarm reception of this as well as the last Dr. Strange film. That one seemed to have more of a Raimi touch then people were used to.

    • @funnylilgalreacts
      @funnylilgalreacts  Год назад +2

      I think that’s why I didn’t like that movie as much as I thought I would. I wish the original Director had stayed on and wrote that movie. It felt like a Sam Raimi movie. I don’t mind the horror elements, but the second I see Bruce Campbell, overacting, and being campy, it took me right out of the movie.

      It's been funny how, in the first couple phases, folks were annoyed that directors were being reigned in...or were more workmanly than striking; now they're bringing directors with very distinctive styles, ones that're highly unusual in a Marvel context, and giving them maybe too much free reign. I figure there's a happy medium in there somewhere...

    Zeus, Hercules, Olympus all exist in the Marvel Comics in much the same way that Asgard and Thor, etc. exist. Hercules at various times has battled Thor, but ultimately Hercules has also done his time as an Avenger and as a member of various other Marvel superhero groups.
