25:20: I don't think those drawings are just drawn by the god butcherer, as he had a vision of eternity and the bifrost beforehand when he picked up the necrosword for the first time. What some forget is that the stormbreaker used to be a pre-existing MOLD, it existed long ago and was not made into a weapon recently, and it was said to be able to summon the bifrost and kill the gods. So normally the bifrost summoning would have been been done be Heimendall but since that bifrost bridge broke to eternity, storm breaker became the only thing that can take him there. 19:42 The scroll on the lower right is listing all the people Thor has lost: "Mother, Father, Loki, Heimdall, Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff" Jeez, between this and the memorial in Ms. Marvel it's no wonder Wanda snapped: Vision willingly sacrificed his life trying to save half the universe and not even the other Avengers, let alone the public, seem to give a shit that he even existed.
I absolutely loved LOVED the kids with powers scene. I actually teared up and rewound to watch that exact scene again. Because imagining myself as a kid again and seeing this - it would've been EVERYTHING.
30:43 How did I never notice that Jane used a whip move? So Mjolnir now has lightning, hammer throw, shotgun spread, and whip style. 35:03 Honestly, self defense should be a required class in the Marvel universe. Things get crazy so fast.
19:15 When i was in theaters , i thought Russel Crowe was gonna say his line"Are you not entertained?!" from Gladiator as a reference 😆 missed opportunity tho 😅
I loved the black and white of them being on Gorrs planet its so good and I wish Christian Bale got some more screen time least for me idk what his plan fully was with capturing all the Asguard kids if he wanted to kill all the gods. Jane as Mighty Thor was badass loved her hope to see more of her one day if they can bring people from Vallhalla back
His plan was to lure Thor in to get Stormbreaker from him to open up the gate to eternity. The power of the bifrost was the key and Stormbreaker was the only source of bifrost left in the universe. The wish would have allowed Gorr to kill all gods at once without having to spend decades to kill them all manually.
In cut preproduction content, Gorr needed to sacrifice the kids through the bifrost to reach eternity. Marvel probably thought this idea was too gruesome, but left the kids in as merely bait.
My wife and my sister in law where hyped for this movie in the beginning but walked out of the theater and left me watching it alone because they didn't like the movie they said it was a waste of money and time but I loved it for me it was great not the best but it was worth what I paid and the time i spent watching it
There's also a case to be made for Unreliable Narrator in that this is a story being retold by Korg to the children of Asgard... so I attribute a lot to exaggeration by Korg and personally imagine that the actual events with Gorr WERE a lot darker.
I always love when they draw on established mythology for Thor's exploits in these films. In norse mythology Thor has a chariot pulled by magic goats which he can eat as many times as he wants, as long as he leaves the bones intact they'll be alive and ready to go when he wakes up the next morning. But because Thor is a dummy, one time he's sheltering in a cave from a blizzard and is feeling greedy, so he cracks open one of the bones to enjoy the juicy marrow, when he wakes up one of the goats has a lame foot.
Generally I kind of felt this film was a bit all over the place. It was a fun couple of hours, and I understand it was apparently forced to be quite heavily edited down for run time purposes. Though in that case ai think some of the choices to keep certain dragged out moments in was the wrong choice. Like the goats were funny the first time then it was immediately too much 🤣 The jokes were dumb but I did properly laugh at a lot of them. I just felt it never really asked me to take any of it seriously, even the more potentially serious bits. And in a movie with child death and kidnap and terminal cancer there definitely could have been some. Couple of moments with Thor and Jane I got the seriousness of just about, but not enough to fully get me emotional. I do kind of feel like there was 3 or 4 potential separate films that I might have been invested in more in isolation but they were all crammed together. Certainly didn't hate it, didn't LOVE it but. Hey ho 🤣
Wow this is basically exactly how I feel. It needed to either flesh some more parts out by allowing to be longer or needed to cut down on the axe/hammer jokes. And for a character called Gor the god Butcher, we don’t see enough of him. Either the whole god capital scene should’ve been cut or it should’ve been some longer sequence of either the aftermath of gor having been there or him being there as they arrive or showing up while they’re there. It did a lot, and it did a lot of really cool things, but in trying so hard to be cool, fit in characters and flip between love story, comedy, horror, action… it never really found it’s footing and feels like another unremarkable entry into a very forgettable phase 4 of marvel.
I don't think it was forced to be heavily edited. From what I read, this was Taika's choice as they trusted him and gave him full reign of this movie after the success of Ragnorak. He's even gone on record saying that a director's cut from him wouldn't be that much longer. It's also been exaggerated about how much was cut. Many people probably read about how there's a 4-hour cut of the film, but that's the assembly cut. That's not a releasable version of a movie. It's a far cry from a finished, cohesive product and nearly always has to go through significant edits unless you have a filmmaker that does in-camera editing like Spielberg. In reality, we're maybe are missing 20-30 minutes of usable footage? I think that would have helped with Gor's and Sif's stories, but we'd still have problems that you mentioned with pacing and tone. I think Taika was just a victim of his own success, and someone else needed to reel him in. They needed to let the serious moments take full effect instead of inserting jokes everywhere. It's interesting that he's self-aware of this though. In the same interview where he commented about director's cuts, he says that "directors need to be controlled sometimes". 🕵♀
@@ImAlsoMerobiba that's fair i only heard bits here and there about it being made to go under 2 hours or be cut down but either way different choices could have brrn made even if so. I don't know exactly what's true. Agree i think sometimes people find something that works in one project then lean too heavily on it in another project
@@JeM130177 yeah and even what I said may not be 100% accurate. It's based on Taika's interviews but he's joking around a bit in those too, so who knows. Either way, I think we all wish it was better than it was 😥
5:45 "Oh, you're a villian alright, just not a Super one." "Yeah? What's the difference?" "Presentation!" I can never not hear that dialogue when I hear that music.
Fun fact: the Necro Sword welded by Goor is actually part of Knull the first Symbiote..Knull is actually responsible for Nowhere the giant celestial head the Collector lives in from Guardians of the Galaxy. The Ebony Blade also comes from Knull as well as symbiotes like Venom..so it's all connected
Honestly Jane IS worthy. Not because she wanted Mjolnir solely to heal herself, but to continue helping humanity. They said this in the movie! AND even though she was told that the transformations were actually killing her she STILL was willing to make that sacrifice to save innocent lives. If that isn’t being worthy of having the power of Thor than no one deserves that power. Also as the son of a mother who fought stage 3A breast cancer I can tell you that you have to have a truly strong will to beat cancer. Though I do really wish we had gotten more time with Gorr. Not only to get to know him better as a character but also as a true threat to ALL the gods. He’s not called The God Butcher just because he kills gods, in the comics he literally displays some of their bodies on meat hooks and chops some of them to pieces like raw meat. In one scene he kills a massive god and brings its heart (which is the size of a bull) back as a trophy. That said I actually do love this look as much as his look in the comics. He looks like a monk turned into a vengeful wraith. ALSO FUN FACT: The little girl who plays Gorr’s daughter Love is actually Chris Hemmsworth’s real life daughter India.
My favorite well one of my favorite scenes is when Thor says little to minimum damage and then right when he says it The shrine falls one of the best scenes in the movie
Rick is right sam raimi would've definitely been perfect for balancing the horror and comedic tone for this movie. Plus he's great at cgi and fight sequences coupled with beautiful imagery.
Rick said it well. The movie had a lot of moments I love but I'd love them in another movie. A darker Gorr movie on its own would have been so cool. Christian Bale was really great I thought. Would have loved to see more of him and his storyline. Also even though I enjoy Taikas style and humour outside of Marvel and really enjoyed Thor Ragnarok... The movie was five things in one held together by silly humour and it only worked kind of. If you watch the behind the scenes stuff it looks like maybe they were having so much fun they got lost in the sauce. 😄 I can find joy in all Marvel content because I love the characters and the interconnectedness. Some movies I have to try harder to enjoy - this was one of em. 😋
With you on every point here. I love Taika’s work, and certainly his comedy, but this just didn’t land how it could have… But then the Gorr scenes were so excellently done that it made me want to see Taika do a properly dark Gorr film with Bale, no comedy at all. I’d be really interested to see his skills as a filmmaker and scriptwriter sans his humour.
I think they should have kept Gorr to kill Hemsworths Thor in his final movie, instead of him being the main villain for L&T, he should have been a background thing Thor was doing (like the comics Rick mentioned) where he and other Gods are noticing strange deaths of Gods, then the following Thor movie would be new Thor and the Gods fighting Gorr in a truly dark horror-esque movie, but this wasn't bad by any means, it just had the current MCU syndrome of trying to squeeze too many themes and stories together and just about getting away with it. haha
I just can’t believe they turned a really serious storyline into a kids movie. Sometimes i wish i never read comics so i could just go in blind like the other casuals. I’d probably enjoy it more if i was a fan that doesn’t know shit.
I feel like this movie deserved more of Christian bales gorr. in the comics he’s a serious problem so I feel like they kind of cut him short. He supposed to be the god butcher not that God kidnapper. I wasnt really a fan of the kids either taking thors powers. I mean it is cool to see Thor can learn his dads Tricks but I don’t know I feel like it was kind of wacky. The damn goats got on my nerves. I want to do more serious home like some in between the first Thor and then Ragnarok because of the seriousness of gorr. This is almost a thanos level villian it took three Thors to beat him.
2 Thors beat him in this one. Gorr did kill lots of gods. He kidnapped the kids to lure Thor there so he could steal Stormbreaker. Its a comic book , its not supposed to be "serious" all the time. The goats were hilarious every time they were on screen
@@yankeesrule587 I’m not saying it has to be serious all the time I just idk I wish it was more serious just on his parts. We didn’t see him kill a lot of gods though.
This movie has the same problem of SupermanVBatman. They mashed together 2 or more storylines that should have 1 or 2 movies on their own. So neither of them got the needed development. We could have more Gor being a menace and god butchering and more Jane being a hero and strugling between taking her time to heal the cancer or taking the hammer to help people.
Another thing about the comic book connection is that the events in the Gor series essentially created the situation that allowed Jane to become The Mighty Thor. I don't remember what the context of the statement, but Nick Fury whispers into Thor's ear that, "Gor was right." which makes Thor lose faith and he drops Mjolnir. This is when the hammer finds its way to Jane in her time of need during her battle with cancer.
The weird thing in this movie is the change meeks sex, in Ragnarok Korg called it a 'he' and they said Korgs race were all males even though he spoke about 'his mum and her boyfriend' in Ragnarok. I have no problem with meek being female and Korgs race being a same sex race but why didn't they just do that from beginning instead of changing between movies.
Mom and dad could be a decided role for the two parents. Also, maybe it's some cultural divide that doesn't translate so well, thusly we get the description we've had at times. Idk. Just random thoughts I had about that.
His mum could be an adoptive mom, maybe something happened to his dads when he was little. Korg could also have just been mistaken on Miek at first, he isnt the brightest rock in the canyon.
I always think of that one Rick and Morty scene where they crash into the small planet in a very similar way and it makes me crack up. Also, imo, obvious reference to the boys with the laser eye rabbit. Much like butcher with the baby in the hospital in season 1
4:56 he's not riding it backwards. Witches have always flown broomsticks with the brush side forward. Only in modern culture have they turned the broom around, so they are the ones riding it backwards and Thor is actually doing it right.
@Blind Wave, 42:13 I haven't read Gorr story in the comics, but I know of it from friends and folks online, but I think what's being missed here is that Gorr was possessed by the Necro Sword. Once Jane destroyed it, Gorr was free. He was hurting and he was acting out of anger when he was kneeling before Eternity. Had he still been possessed by the Necro Sword, all gods would have died for sure, as that was his mission, but as he was himself, he had a moment to think, and as you said, Thor was able to reach him and find out what he really wanted, which was his daughter, for her to live a full life. I liked this story, a lot. I hope we get more Taika Waititi and Thor for many years to come. I think he and Chris are a perfect fit. I hope we get to see Jane Foster come back as Valkyrie too...which makes me wonder if King Valkyrie will finally go by her actual name, Brumhilda--Thor called her Val when Gorr stabbed her, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Christian Bale's Gor was the best part of this movie. There was a better darker movie just sitting there waiting but they kept piling too much cheese on it.
Yeah, they chose two very dark storylines from the comics (Gorr being the god butcher and Jane having cancer) but they didn't treat them with enough respect (ok, Jane was actually pretty well done and probably one of the best parts of the movie) and made the movie into an unfunny joke. Some parts here are absolutely excellent, but they get overshadowed by the annoying jokes.
Welcome to the jungle intensifies. I immediately think of burnout paradise. Ah a man of culture. Also at the end... Thor has a winebego with wings aka eagle 1 from spaceballs.
Yesss, I played that so much on the PS3 back in the day. And the music playing as it cuts to Norway (Tønsberg/New Asgard) just made me lose my mind as a Norwegian 💀
Jane didn't die in battle, nor even die from wounds suffered in battle, nor was she Asgardian. Yet she ends up in Valhalla. And made her cancer/death completely insignificant. How freaking stupid. Is Vision in Valhalla, too? Worst Thor movie ever, all due to Taika Waititi's ~many~ poor choices. What a fall from grace in the MCU.
I really believe that we're supposed to realize early on that the story is being told from Korg's perspective and he's not the most reliable storyteller when it comes to the details. He's also telling the story to children as part of the narration, so it's going to be embellished and have his personality stamped firmly upon it from the start. It makes perfect sense that he would have Thor riding Stormbreaker like a witch's broom, especially after his reaction to Thor's description of how he flew using Mjolnir in Ragnarok. "You rode a hammer?"
Stormbreaker is legend it seems. In Infinity War, when its being created Etri says that its said that its possible that Stormbreaker can summon the bifrost. Just because it was just created, doesnt mean its not already legend. Why would Etri have a mold of it?
I think it would’ve been a little nicer for me if Gorr had made his wish while the necrosword was still intact, and we find out that his wish had always been to revive his daughter. I would’ve enjoyed thinking that while he wasn’t losing sleep over killing a few gods for his goal, the whole “godslayer” thing was just an assumption by the gods, and that was never his true intention, even while under the influence of the sword. Would’ve been cool to see Gorr be the one to teach Thor a final lesson on love instead of the other way around. Though I’m not sure what that lesson would be 😂 love can help you achieve anything I guess?
I hear ya. But I think part of the point is that being motivated by love cannot lead you astray, whereas one can allow suffering to corrupt your motivations to become vengeful.
I like the movie, love the goats and kids with powers in the end, I don't have any problems with Axl CGI (I think it's actually stupid to say it looks bad, I mean, the kid who's not that great with his powers as Heimdall won't get the same effect as Heimdall, obviously it will look bad; Thor's Helmet, however, looks totally terrible, much much worse than She-Hulk) but the scene with Sif is in my opinion terrible and it has way too much comedy in it. Actually I felt like it was another scene from the theater play with Matt Damon from this movie. The only thing I hated as much as this from Phase 4 are those 3 episodes of Ms. Marvel in Pakistan. Luckily, Sif is still alive so maybe she will be better in future movies. I wish there would be more place in this movie for Gorr. Not because I love the character from the comics, but I love Christian Bale as an actor and this movie did not use him well (although all scenes with him were obviously great). Even though I like the humour of this movie, I'd still wish this one was more serious

Jeez, between this and the memorial in Ms.
@@Megaproductions302 Still have no idea why they merged 3 things into one and called it Eternity, also made almost no sense plotwise.
The Asgard kids were bait so he could get Stormbreaker to get to Eternity.
@@minartson no clue what your talking about. You are confusing yourself.
In cut preproduction content, Gorr needed to sacrifice the kids through the bifrost to reach eternity. Marvel probably thought this idea was too gruesome, but left the kids in as merely bait.
My wife and my sister in law where hyped for this movie in the beginning but walked out of the theater and left me watching it alone because they didn't like the movie they said it was a waste of money and time but I loved it for me it was great not the best but it was worth what I paid and the time i spent watching it
Kid me, back in the '80s would have loved this! Tusen takk, great reaction!
Damn Aaron getting emotional getting me more emotional than watching the movie 🤣🤣
It’s kind of a paradox because the thing getting Aaron emotional in the first place is the movie…
That ending gets me every time, when they say the movie's title.
Well she got the ax because of the enchantment on the hammer. I enjoyed this more at home than the movies
There's also a case to be made for Unreliable Narrator in that this is a story being retold by Korg to the children of Asgard... so I attribute a lot to exaggeration by Korg and personally imagine that the actual events with Gorr WERE a lot darker.
That’s the thought I had when watching the movie as well.

Aaron: More Guns and Roses
Me: You have no idea....
Either way, I think we all wish it was better than it was 😥
@@JeM130177 Oh also, besides the humor, I think they leaned way too hard on the classic rock. This felt like a long Guns N' Roses music video lol.
I loved the kids part, I saw it coming a mile away but I laughed and I was happy for kids watching, I knew they loved it.
Fun fact: the vfx shot of Axl looked significantly worse in theaters and they changed the effect for Disney+

Ironically Christian Bale would make a good joker
According to marvel wiki Luka is Christian Bale's daughter, that's cool they got to involve their kids.
Was the last time we saw Lady Sif in anything MCU related, in Agents of Shield?
Yup
The sad thing is that AoS isn’t technically MCU canon

Rick is right sam raimi would've definitely been perfect for balancing the horror and comedic tone for this movie. Plus he's great at cgi and fight sequences coupled with beautiful imagery.
That fire alarm scared the shit out of me lmao
Yep, they really need to not keep that stuff in the edit. I just let out a scream in public.
I can find joy in all Marvel content because I love the characters and the interconnectedness.
12:08 Thank you, kind editor
I think they should have kept Gorr to kill Hemsworths Thor in his final movie, instead of him being the main villain for L&T, he should have been a background thing Thor was doing (like the comics Rick mentioned) where he and other Gods are noticing strange deaths of Gods, then the following Thor movie would be new Thor and the Gods fighting Gorr in a truly dark horror-esque movie, but this wasn't bad by any means, it just had the current MCU syndrome of trying to squeeze too many themes and stories together and just about getting away with it. haha
Matthew McConaughey would make a great Dark Reign version of Norman Osborn. Timothée Chalamet could be the perfect Harry.
Best part was the Burnout: Paradise shout. One of my favorite games of all time!
I'm listening to this in my kitchen on my phone, and I was SO CONFUSED when the microwave beeps started.
Kingdom of Heaven is AMAZING and I would watch the hell out of you guys reacting to it
I just can’t believe they turned a really serious storyline into a kids movie.

@@yankeesrule587 the goats def were not funny every time, they were funny the first time and the joke got old real quick
Stop crying.
Fun Fact: Thor Love & Thunder is the first Thor solo outing in which Loki does “NOT” make a physical appearance, though he is mentioned.
I always think of that one Rick and Morty scene where they crash into the small planet in a very similar way and it makes me crack up. Also, imo, obvious reference to the boys with the laser eye rabbit. Much like butcher with the baby in the hospital in season 1
Starting my day off with reaction! It’s a good day!
Yess bro I’ve been waiting patiently!!
4:56 he's not riding it backwards. Witches have always flown broomsticks with the brush side forward. Only in modern culture have they turned the broom around, so they are the ones riding it backwards and Thor is actually doing it right.
I was searching for a reaction to this from you guys just last week so this was a nice surprise!
Rick wearing what looks like a Zildjian shirt makes me very happy.
@Blind Wave,
42:13 I haven't read Gorr story in the comics, but I know of it from friends and folks online, but I think what's being missed here is that Gorr was possessed by the Necro Sword.
You thought it was whitensake, but it was me, Dio!
The thunderbolt enhanced Thor's ability and enables him to loan his power to the kids.

This.
This makes so much sense why there's so much whacky shit now xD
I get why people didnt like this movie. But I absolutely loved it. Constantly am cracking up every time i see it.

Stormbreaker is legend it seems. In Infinity War, when its being created Etri says that its said that its possible that Stormbreaker can summon the bifrost. Just because it was just created, doesnt mean its not already legend. Why would Etri have a mold of it?

This is the closest we're gonna get to a He-Man movie 😎
He's here! He's there! He's every fucking where! Hercules! Ted Lasso. Highly recommend.
But he also killed innocent gods...
I just wish the Gorr storyline wasn't wasted lol
