- In this video I will be fixing an issue with a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 400. The issue is engine oil keeps getting on the recoil rope, or pull rope. This is caused by either a bad crank seal or a bad O-ring.
Here are the links to the tools used in this video!

If you would like to support the channel, and you need those tools, you can buy the tools using the links in the description and I will earn a small commission off the sale. Thank you! - Авто/Мото
I have a 96 sportsman 500 with a similar issue, how do you clean the crank case breather tube to avoid pressure build up again?
@@danielpelayo5263 what you can do is remove the breather tube, and blow compressed air through it. Alot of times the mud buildup is right at the end, so you don't even have to remove it then. If it's only built up on the end, I will just take a pick and get the mud out of the end, so the tube is free of any debris
Do you by chance have a part number for the crank seal and o-ring?
The Oil seal part number is: 3084973 and the O-Ring for it is: 3084978
Awesome! Thanks for the quick response and the perfect video. Both my o-ring and seal look good but there's a lot of oil in there so best I change them both. You mentioned the crank case vent as well. Where's that located? @@ChaseBuiltBikes
Would this process be nearly the same for other recoil ropes?
This is for a Polaris Sportsman, this process will be similar for a good amount of other sportsman’s.
