I'd love to hear your opinion on when exactly redeployment abilities happen, I've seen it split exactly down the middle 50/50 from players, TOs, etc on when exactly the "redeployment" happens. I find it extremely difficult to believe it happens before you roll for determining who goes first due to page 12 on the rules commentary on redeployment and steps 9,10 & 11 of any Leviathan Game.
@@archonwut1624 The way I understand it / play it, the majority happen BEFORE you know who rolls first but certain datasheets spell out it happens after rolling for turns. I believe it was spelled out in the Rules Commentary but as some examples: Huron Blackheart's says: After both players have deployed their armies, you can select up to three HERETIC ASTARTES INFANTRY units from your army and redeploy them. Whereas the Captain in Phobos Armor says: After both players have deployed their armies **and determined who has the first turn**, if your army includes one or more models with this ability, you can select up to three friendly... I remember this was definitely a rule that caused some confusion originally but that's the way I understand it for these days. This is yet another exceptional tactics video. I've watched a LOT of this kind of content and none of it is as comprehensive nor as digestible as yours. Deploy teleport homers--what am I teleporting? Now i hear some shit about terraforming. So my Warsmith is a horticulturist now? It just makes 40k feel more like Bloodbowl, dashing around the field scoring points. I'm not in love with it. GW handwaves it, so maybe I'll find myself a mental maneuver so it doesn't seem as out of place. And I will figure out something, whether it's obligatory Nurglings I don't really want (nor can you find, apparently), or some other chaff unit to do the work. You know, I've never really considered the "why" behind all those actions tbh. I guess I could see them not so much as missions but just like, heroic deeds or "badass moments" during the battle that translate to scoring cool-kid points for? I don't mind them as it forces people to play strategically instead of just tabling each other but that's just my pov!! FYI they just previewed the Pariah Nexus rules & Nurglings won't be as mandatory as before (OC1 can't do actions anymore, though if they still have Behind Enemy Lines or Engage on All Fronts they *will* stay very valuable then). That said my main point wasn't so much Nurglings, even though I definitely gushing over them, but just infiltrators in general; if your army has an alternative consider giving they a shot sometime!
@@fatarchon thanks so much! I enjoyed this one a lot. I picked up some 3d printed Chaos Bikers to help out with that stuff, much cooler than those ancient ones GW still sells. I work in a FLGS and GW have only allocated us x5 🤷🏼♂️ Hopefully you’ll get a pack and do a video on best tactics. Nice one bro 😎
@@fatarchon The cards are up for pre order today. GW gave us more in the end so that’s good. Unfortunately I lost against the BA’s. That being said next time I play him it’ll be the Vashtor detachment all the way 🤘🏻
as someone who has been watching a lot of your videos recently, I don't see you build lists with screamers and a fateskimmer. I think they're just as good (if not better) at scoring then most of the units in the army. Getting to yoink themselves back to strategic reserves is really undervalued when it comes to scoring a sticky point or whatnot. the changeling is a good cheap option but both of those combined gives you a lot of map control that I think daemons sometimes lack. Skarbrand will decimate an army by himself in melee combat anyway (with some backup of course), so having more map control is always nice when you don't have to worry about anything like that haha
You're spot on actually, my latest lists almost always bring Screamers along these days! I used to bring max Flamers but now it's normally a mix of the two. I love them for so many things with their 14" movement, but I've found them to be incredible move blockers especially (along with scoring ofc). I don't bring Fateskimmer as much as I should but yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you're saying. I've been wanting to do some updated army lists to show off what I & others have been running, your comment makes a good reminder 😜
Awesome video! Used what I learned in a 1500pt game vs my eldar playing friend yesterday and got a win (he won the last 2 before this decisively) ! Deployed cheap units first, thought about missions etc. even though he was killing some big units I still got the points and he surrendered after 3 rounds. But now a small suggestion for a new video! How to use transports? I tried a rhino for the first time but it just felt like I was missing the point. I think that would be very interesting. You seem to like them, I am planning on building a renegade raiders list and in your video about that you were bringing 3 😮 As always super in depth and easy listening at the same time. Awesome!!!
No lie this is one of the best comments I've ever gotten 😎 Thank you so much for letting me know it helped you & congrats on the win man!! That's fantastic you didn't let your big units dying faze you, sticking to the gameplan & outscoring them is exactly the right call Thats a great suggestion for transports too. I used to ignore them mostly myself (I always saw having more bodies as better) but once you learn the advantages they're usually the way to go - so yeah I'll see what I can put together. A basic tip for now is that A. You can use them as an objective piñata (sit on an objective & if/when they die you still hold it with your infantry) & B. They make perfect action monkeys; esp now that OC 0 units can't do actions anymore Anywho, congrats again on the win! hello fat archon! im loving your vids im crunching them hard. could you elaborate on why if you touch the terrain units have line of sight on you? thanks can't wait for next uploads
Hey Ox! It's part of the terrain rules basically! Goonhammer has a pretty good article that goes over it in more detail but so long as you have "true line of sight" onto something, if it's touching terrain it's fair game, yet they can't see out unless they're wholly within it (so you can shoot someone toeing in but they might not be able to shoot back). Here's the article in case it helps bettwr explain it: www.goonhammer.com/ruleshammer-terrain-guide-ruins-mostly/
Eh that's no biggie, I like doing tacticas the most :) All the baseline strategy is staying the same so this video should still point everyone in the right direction but for sure I'll get an update for Pariah Nexus put together
Hey, im new to the game, Im making an iron warriors/fellhammer seige-host. What adivse would you give a for a slower moving army that specialises in gun fights? Love your videos, btw. You give the best info for a newbie.
My big piece of advise would be to bring at least a few deepstrikers and/or fast moving units to still help with scoring. If you're dead set on the slowly plodding murder style (which is cool af so I don't blame you) I'd maybe consider Terminators in Deepstrike to come down up the board But yeah, still need *something* to get up the board & put points up for ya!
I go over one of the list in my Daemons tactica that should give you an idea (you can skip to the lists at the end, tho if you watch the whole thing I go over my issues with Belakor): ruclips.net/video/MusA2EXvmAM/видео.htmlsi=UeMGPC_J91pgHtyE These days I usually swap him out for Bloodletter bombs or just more scoring in general. Belakor is TOTALLY usable tho & most tournament lists still bring him so obv he's not bad, but for 350pt I'm not too impressed with his profile personally!
Custodes are hyper elite so it's absolutely vital you deploy everything out of LOS, so personally even if it was costing me a couple inches I'd be sure to hide behind as much Obscuring as possible For scoring I think they can really benefit from chaff, so I'd probably have a Rhino with SoS to take over objective while the rest of the army either pushed forward or helped screen those same objectives Even with the new Codex, Custodes are damn resilient so they're one of those armies that can just stand on an objective if they really need to. Especially if you have Calladius Grav Tanks to blast across the table / give distractions
Hmmm, that's a tough call. Quantity is great so the 2 Witchseekers + Prosecutors is great, but then the Rhino has a BS2 missile + 12" move so you're gaining great value there I think I'd ever so slightly lean towards the x3 squads so you have a bit more redundancy. You could also run the min squads for 40pt if you wanted without wasting capacity on the Rhino / save points I should warn you I'm not pro on Custodes but that's just my general thoughts from fighting them so many times :P If you're ever curious what the tournament lists are looking like you might checkout 40kstats.com & goto their faction page, that'd show you what the best players are using
As I was watching this I saw the new meta Monday release and talk about the new mission pack. OC 0 cannot due actions and the whole assault and pistols actions are gone. Its going to be quite rough for daemons and Tyranids I suspect. Only benefit will be nurglings should go down in price so they will make for a really good screen. Any thoughts on this?
I think Nurglings are still good even if they can't action. 40pts to screen out OTHER infiltrators or blocking scouts is still very worth it to me. They (might) not be a x3 of anymore but at least 1-2 units of them still seems very handy to me considering how cheap they are. It's only actions they cant do either so if GW still has Engage on All Fronts or Behind Enenmy Lines they still have value there too
What kind of maps would you suggest to use for TTS games? I'm not sure if the ones I'm using are particularly good, but they seem a little terrain-light...
I touch on that a little in my TTS tutorial vid *but* I almost always use "WTC" maps. A lot of times you can find maps setup specifically for each deployment card. Usually just searching "WTC Tournament" or "WTC Search & Destroy" etc will show ya good maps. The best ones are from tournament series tho, that way you get multiple options for each deployment type Hope that helps!!
@@fatarchon Thanks! I hadn't even finished watching the video and you got back to me, super surprised and very grateful. Maybe I can do a bit better on non-basic terrain...
Tabletop simulator! Checkout my tutorial ruclips.net/video/I6zkJ91WEiw/видео.htmlsi=xHjidR70bfSoAE8d You can indeed play 40k (& pretty much any other game..)
fat Aron, you have to convince my friends that you can deep strike, turned one with Demons. They say you can’t because the rule stipulate it has to say you can do it turn one.
Just seen that in Pariah Nexus OC 0 units can't do actions anymore :( Do we still take Nurglings to move blocks or shall we use the points towards other units?
For 40pts I think they're still worth it for the move blocks & whatnot. Probably their most valuable power is screening out OTHER infiltrators & scouts for cheap, so yeah I think at least x1 will *probably* be the way to go
I'm assuming you meant to say "can't" score 😜 GW put it in their Rules Commentary that units without ranged weapons CAN do actions; otw we'd barely see any melee units at all! Alas for Nurglings at least they're OC 0 so they can't do actions now that Pariah Nexus is here
heh yeah that's what I meant by using the Scouts or bringing up the Flamers but I didn't make it clear enough so touche! They're still perfect for it though. Means you use a 40pt unit to Cleanse while the good unit still gets to shoot or charge etc, I always try to use them for exactly that

Hmmm, that's a tough call. Quantity is great so the 2 Witchseekers + Prosecutors is great, but then the Rhino has a BS2 missile + 12" move so you're gaining great value there
I think I'd ever so slightly lean towards the x3 squads so you have a bit more redundancy. You could also run the min squads for 40pt if you wanted without wasting capacity on the Rhino / save points
I should warn you I'm not pro on Custodes but that's just my general thoughts from fighting them so many times :P If you're ever curious what the tournament lists are looking like you might checkout 40kstats.com & goto their faction page, that'd show you what the best players are using
As I was watching this I saw the new meta Monday release and talk about the new mission pack.
The best ones are from tournament series tho, that way you get multiple options for each deployment type
Hope that helps!!
@@fatarchon Thanks! I hadn't even finished watching the video and you got back to me, super surprised and very grateful. Maybe I can do a bit better on non-basic terrain...
What is the software you are using for the video? Can you play games with the software?
Tabletop simulator! Checkout my tutorial ruclips.net/video/I6zkJ91WEiw/видео.htmlsi=xHjidR70bfSoAE8d
You can indeed play 40k (& pretty much any other game..)
Can you provide the name of the map you used? Been using the wtc maps off the workshop but they're getting a little stale for right now
There should be a download link for the maps I use in my TTS tutorial, check it out: ruclips.net/video/I6zkJ91WEiw/видео.htmlsi=ZJSC5j8prRFaMmhi
fat Aron, you have to convince my friends that you can deep strike, turned one with Demons.
They say you can’t because the rule stipulate it has to say you can do it turn one.
Just seen that in Pariah Nexus OC 0 units can't do actions anymore :(
Do we still take Nurglings to move blocks or shall we use the points towards other units?
For 40pts I think they're still worth it for the move blocks & whatnot. Probably their most valuable power is screening out OTHER infiltrators & scouts for cheap, so yeah I think at least x1 will *probably* be the way to go
❤️👏🔥👍
Great, unfortunate timing
so in short : play nurglings, ok, i get it, it wasn't that hard
Is that really all you got from that? Lol
Nurglins can't shoot, so can do missions
I'm assuming you meant to say "can't" score 😜 GW put it in their Rules Commentary that units without ranged weapons CAN do actions; otw we'd barely see any melee units at all!
Alas for Nurglings at least they're OC 0 so they can't do actions now that Pariah Nexus is here
Nurglings on their own cannot score cleanse, as you need to control the objective.
heh yeah that's what I meant by using the Scouts or bringing up the Flamers but I didn't make it clear enough so touche! They're still perfect for it though. Means you use a 40pt unit to Cleanse while the good unit still gets to shoot or charge etc, I always try to use them for exactly that
