You mentioned a benefit of clean HDMI is for use with video conferencing servies like Zoom, 8x8 and Cisco. How could you use both apps at the same time. Is there a way, for example, in Zoom to select Filmic Pro as an input. I am trying to imagine how this would work. Thanks.
Instead of using a webcam you use your phone and Filmic Pro. Zoom or OBS Studio or whatever you use sees the HDMI input from the connected camera (could be a traditional camera too like a Sony mirrorless).
Not currently. You can record and almost instantly copy to a Wi-Fi drive or to a SanDisk USB stick though. Used to have to do this with a 64GB phone. Upgraded to 256GB and it’s been no problem since.
@@iphoneographers Thank you! Do you have a video step by step of how to, "record and almost instantly copy to a Wi-Fi drive or to a SanDisk USB stick"?
Haven’t done one! But look at the WD Wireless SSD. FiLMiC Pro used to integrate with it and you would send files wirelessly as you shot… But recently they changed it to where now you connect through the Files app. And so you can shoot your clips, then copy them to the SSD right after it. Then you can delete them off your phone. Same goes for a SanDisk USB designed with the Lightning port adapter. These are available on Amazon. Btw, you can also do this with an SSD like the Samsung T5 and here’s a video on how to connect it to iPad or iPhone... ruclips.net/video/8iHc1mc5SJE/видео.html (this is for importing, but exporting is similar process).
I would love to see a comparison of the between recording with Filmic Pro internally and with the external Atamos recorder with the iPad just to see how much of a difference we could expect to see if we were to get USB-C on an iPhone in the future.
Just saw your other comment that on the iPad Pro the signal from USB-C is also compressed which is sad. I really hope that them wanting to push the iPhone as a true Pro camera will come with things such as uncompressed HDMI output and the required ports to do so in the future.
In Filmic Pro is the ap Firstlight to make very good photographs. I should appreciate a course in dept on Firstlight. Can't find how I can use the color histograms and what are the steps to make the best photographs. It would also be great when it is possible to go live with Clean HDMI Out directly from my gimbal (Osmo mobile 3) without a laptop. Thank you so much for your answer!
I can’t seem to get mine to output video to any of my monitors at all. I’m shooting on the 12 pro max with Filmic Pro. Attached is the lightning to hdmi and audio jack, which then connects to my hdmi cable to either my Andycine monitor or benbox (which transmits the picture to a mobile device). But no output still.
It should work without that setting on anyway because before you could always see the output it just had the screen data on there. The obvious thing would be to do a hard restart on your phone… Possibly delete and reinstall the app (but make sure you save any video files first because they will also be deleted)… make sure your cables are good, try them on something else… You could also try it in another app or just the phone itself. The iPhone will send a signal out without using any app to do external screen recordings. Otherwise I’m not sure because this feature normally works great and I’ve used it for years. Hope you get it figured out!
Thanks for explaining this so clearly Blake! Awesome video as per. Just reviewed the OSMO 3 features which are crazy fun! Like you say this is taking Filmic Pro to the next level for sure.
Thanks for putting me on to the BlueAVS Audio Video Capture Card. I haven't checked but I hope this update to Filmic is also available for Android as my phone has built in USB C.... I'm looking forward to a higher output.
This Flame works well. Haven’t tried the smaller Ninja V, but keep in mind that currently you can only record 1080 and it’s compressed via the Lightning port. So it’s really like doing a screen recording versus a high quality output. Hopefully in the next iPhones they’ll have a USB or Thunderbolt port and will be able to output an uncompressed signal. But of course you can use any monitor really as an actual external video monitor and that works well.
hi iphoneographers. i have a question about the iphone 11pro used with filmic pro. I do not have it but i am thinking about purchasing. I understand that the camera system has 3 lenses: ultrawide, wide, and telephoto. is it possible with the the iphone 11pro to do optical zoom from the ultrawide to the telephoto and vice versa during one unbroken shot?
The iPhone 11 Pro Max can shoot up to 4K 60fps can you record to the atmos ninja with that and get higher quality footage or would it make no difference?
Do you feel that it’s ness to have external monitor if you are using an iPhone i understand the big monitor for editing but why would you use external monitor with iPhone when you just look at your phone display especially when they come out with the new Oled Display in iPhone 12 thanks
Depends on the shoot. For quick stuff, no. For more involved shoots definitely yes. More people can see the screen and it’s easier to frame up and expose the image - and especially if it’s sunny.
iPhoneographers I got it do you know of any monitors $100 or less I used the filmic pro clean HDM out with big Monitor it’s super nice! I really like it!
No it’s 1080 60fps via Lightning. The iPad Pro will send 4K 60fps via USB-C. Both are compressed, so internal is higher quality technically speaking. Planning a comparison though.
How do I flip the image? My setup is iPhone to adapter to capture card and into zoom, but the image is mirrored. While it’s ok my hair part is on the wrong side, when I show text it’s a disaster! Looks like Filmic will horizontal swap, but not mirror flip???? Help?!
being able to use filmic pro as a webcam on your computer is brilliant, way better than the 4-5 in app purchases you have to make for the AV apps to make that happen on an iphone

I’ve heard others have a similar issue with the Ninja V. Have you tried outputting from an iPad via USB-C? My guess is it’s the Lightning which is 1080 and not super reliable, although it does work on the Flame (which is kinda odd). I don’t have a Ninja V to test, so probably not much help I’m afraid. If I hear of anything I’ll post about it. Thanks for watching!

Nice update! They should also improve their codec. If you shoot on extreme, it is almost impossible to edit. You can't even see your footage on a mac. They should put a ProRes in it.
Are you using an iPhone? The files playback on Mac. Extreme is either 100Mbps H.264 or H.265 (HEVC). Apple dictates this, not the apps. It’s possible you don’t have the HEVC codec on your computer, especially if you’re running an older OS. Check that out because again the files work fine. Actually it wasn’t! They just added Osmo 3 support which has been long awaited. The DJI SDK wouldn’t allow it before without eliminating support for Osmo 1 or 2, which Filmic Pro didn’t want to do. Now it supports all devices including the brand new OM 4. 👍🏻

I think it's an issue of Apple Inc. first of all. But, people...., What's going on?
If you shoot in low light there will be video noise, but keeping the ISO low (try always below 100) you should get good results especially using the standard wide f/1.8 aperture lens. If you use the Ultra Wide or Tele the results will vary and not be as clean or crisp. No idea why daylight footage is noisy unless you’re shooting Log and the shadows are underexposed.
Hi, iPhoneographers! I'd just like to ask about your experience on the Filmic Pro app. Have you ever tried monitoring 4K 10-bit Log v3 footage on to an external monitor? I'm in a bit of a situation because we did it manually through a lightning to digital av, HDMI to HDMI, HDMI to SDI, SDI to SDI workflow. We used the Atomos Shogun Inferno by the way. Could this be a solution or would it most probably give the same result? Hoping for your response. Thanks so much!
Does FilmicPro do the multi cam on the iphone? Recording from the rear and front facing camera at the same time?
