    The Glassmen clip was about Beethoven going deaf during the years he was composing that symphony. Also our composer hide a little bit of Russian Christmas music in it. Still gives me the chills all these years later

      Seriously, Gmen absolutely killed it but you really have to know the context. Side-by-side with other corps their arrangement sounds downright awkward, but I promise from the audience that night it was anything but!

    2015 Crown wins this one. This hornline handles everything it's given, and the GE....I had not seen this performance before now, and oh my. 1978 Phantom gives Crown a run for it's money here. But I give it to 2015 in a squeaker. 98 BK and 2005 BAC are decent performances. Wasn't at all a fan of Glassmen's interpretation. That said, all well performed.

      The show was "Mystery and Madness" and had various Beethoven segments. As Beethoven went deaf just before writing the 9th, the Gmen show portrays him getting tinnitus and going deaf during the segment shown here. Thus the going out of tune (playing in multiple keys at once) and taking away the low end, then high end just like real progressive deafness. You hear a bowed zilbell and keyboard frame and "whale song" on a concert bass in the pit right as the last of his hearing goes away.

    • @mrrodgers5871
      @mrrodgers5871 2 года назад +1

      That's supposed to represent Beethoven getting tinnitus and eventually going completely deaf. The polytonality is the beginning of his hearing going; the low and high frequencies are taken away, and there's a foley effect in the pit to show the final wash of his hearing leaving forever.

    Boston 2005 visually, as its closer drill, visuals, flags were outstanding, imo. Crown was ok, but I've seen the Crown visual at the end with their " crown" design as the closer for years now so its getting a bit stale now for me visually. Musically, I would go with PR's rendition, as its the most accurate to the original composition, and 2nd to Crown because... well.. brass.
