  • If your jaw locks, or you can't open wide and have very limited opening, it is likely that your TMJ articular disc is displaced. That is known as Disc Displacement without Reduction.

I've noticed a progressive recession of my lower jaw and chin as well as limited mouth opening. My dentist assumed I may have developed condylar reabsorption however that has now been eliminated as a possibility. I am not sure if disk displacement could still be an issue in my case or if that could result in lower jaw recession

Get a CBCT to see what's happening. You may have an issue if there is recession and, yes, if you have limited mouth opening, there is a possibility of a disk displacement.

    How to treat ?

It would be impossible for me to answer that as it takes years to learn how to treat after finishing dental school. This is why only a dentist with knowledge and experience in treating TMD can answer that and the answer would depend on many factors for each patient's particular case.
