Hello watchmojo can you please reply to this comment
I think the moment Joel calls Ellie "Baby Girl" works so well is because after all the harrowing events we saw her go through, particularly in these last two episodes, as the audience, WE actually resonate with those sentiments and WE instinctively want to protect her after everything she's been through. Very sharp writing.
It's the moment I went "he sees her as her daughter now"
Yea just like in the game
@@KazzKobb yup, i wanted to see how Pedro Pascal handled it.
Loved that moment
I couldn’t wait until this moment , I’ve remembered the”babygirl” moment in the game as being the breakthrough of like “these 2 love each other” so beautifully done
As he called her baby girl, the watch Joel's daughter gave him was prominent in the shot. Such a well acted/directed episode
As a guy who has played the games multiple times, I somehow COMPLETELY missed the fact that Joel's watch is broken but he continues to wear it because that's the exact moment that Sarah was killed. Somehow that never clicked in my head until my girlfriend, whos never played the games, pointed it out a few episodes back. I felt like such a dumbass for never connecting the two (the bullet damaged watch, how it broke and why Joel still wears it), so now whenever I see it, like in the baby girl scene, it just breaks my heart now.
I squealed when Joel called Ellie “baby girl”. They have bonded and they care so much for each other. 🥺❤
When David told the girl the ground was too hard to bury her father got me thinking. They can't bury him, because after Joel killed him, his friends brought him back and cut him up into tiny little pieces and fed it to the flock. Including the dead guys wife and daughter.
Exactly
That's disturbing if you think about it.
Thought the same as well
Surprised they missed this one.
Scott Shepard played the part so well he gave vibes of David Koresh or Jim Jones. Plus cannibals are great bad guys. TLOU and Walking dead proved it
Hope Baker does more live action roles because he's really good.
Him not wanting Ellie to be shot had nothing to do with her being food. He wanted to groom her as a wife. He's sick af.
100%
Can confirm
Thank you
The part were he said you can’t stop true love 🤮🤮🤮👌
@@arrynwilliams2842 I know 🤮🤮🤮
I wonder if the goons were so intent on killing Ellie because they knew that what awaited her with David was far worse...
🤯
Whoa I never thought about it this way
That implication does raise another question. If they are aware of David's true nature, why would they continue to obey such a horrible person? If they have issue with David's actions, you'd think they would get away from him.
My god I love this episode for several reasons
-The introduction of David which by the way the actor did an amazing job
-Bella really solidify her role as Ellie here especially when she broke David's hands. The acting of anger in her words and face was perfect
-Troy Baker cameo ❤️❤️
-Baby girl 😭
When he said Baby girl, I cried. A very powerful moment 👏
I do think Joel healed a little fast ,but adrenaline can turn you into a superhero.
I think the way it was set up was really good. Even if he wasn't healed fully or near that, it was a life or death situation. Adrenaline got him through. He's still injured but fought his way through it and will probably need more time to heal.
You also have to keep in mind that his injury in the show is not NEARLY as bad as in the game. MF drops like 3 stories and gets impaled on some rebar and has to lift himself off of it
Episode 8 sure was a rollercoaster of emotions. We look forward to more episodes like this.
Next week is the last episode sadly
@@recht_voor_zijn_raap5506 I'm hoping it's an extra-long episode. They have mentioned that they're making another season for the 2nd game.
@@loganlapointe2744 it's 46 or so minutes, but the next season will probably have more episodes to help show some moments that weren't in the game
@@adamd5849 aint no way, def gonna be 2 hours.
@Recht_voor_zijn_raap Is there another season? If so, will Joel be in it?
They made David so much more creepier
Seriously 😰
Yeah, that actor killed that role. He made ME uncomfortable and wince.
Everyone watching this breathed a sign of relief when Joel finally recovered. 👨🏿💻
Ellie is a rock star and the Joel -Ellie are the dynamic duo. “ I got you baby girl”
BABY GIRL!! tears rolling down....AMAZING!!! SUPERBLY ACTED BELLA IS AWESOME!!!
The episode did a good job recreating the fight between Ellie and David.
I have loved watching these just after watching each episode to get a better grasp on the franchise. Well done @WatchMojo
When I saw Troy I was like "omg we're getting a Joel vs Joel fight" 😭 But I guess they had other plans
Bro the ending was top tier😮
"Did you know diariah is hereditary? It runs in your jeans" - ellie during sleepy time
Three things that really stood out to me in the episode inspiration taken from what was discussed in the Audio Commentary of the first game, the episode's subtilty, and the use of soundtrack throughout this episode. In the audio commentary it was discussed that David considered himself chosen (by God, Fate, Circumstance, whatever) to survive and lead. This was an idea that Neil Druckmann had but didn't want to explore in the game, which I understand as it would seem generic when one has to place focus on gameplay as well as narrative. There's more time to explore in books, film, and television. The use of subtilty, like interactions David had with the people was also extremely well done. He obviously shows that he wants Ellie to be his newest (pet, partner, quarry, again take your pick) and that he has made victims of others before. Armed with that knowledge from playing the game, his interaction with the girl who's father died takes on a much more creepy meaning. Also the soundtrack was amazing. Much of what you hear in the episode isn't just music used from cinematics, but also gameplay moments. Specifically moments where the player is being hunted, which makes Ellie's entire arc with David more interesting. They also made an interesting choices to make blatantly add dialogue that suggests David was about to rape Ellie and Ellie killed David and walked out of the building *before* Joel finds her. This means that she experienced the full horror of what desperation and rage can make one capable of.
I watched this episode not too long ago and props to the actors who played David and James since David is more scary and terrifying than he always was.
The theme that plays when you fight the Rat King in Part 2 plays when Ellie is getting in a shootout with David's men. I thought that was a nice little Easter egg.
I do wish they'd kept the scene where Ellie and David fight off a swarm of infected together, at least in some form.
Nah, that would've only work in the medium of a game. It would've slowed down the pacing if they did that in the show.
Troy Baker is an absolute legend. He's just as good on camera as he is behind a mic.
Powerful episode
episode 8 is so slick ... pff best episode so far!
Troy being James was really cool since he did a good job.
I watch so many zombie movies the minute they said we're not putting them in the ground until spring I knew they were going to eat him
Prepared the meat wrong...boiling...please. Sear it first then add mirepoix and then add stock. Life long cooker of food you eat. there are bits in there that indicate they can grow stuff
My all time favorite line she says is:
"Can I have a gun?"
"No!"
"Fine, I'll throw my fucking sandwich at 'em"
Troy Baker cameo but you don’t know my joy, as a French person used to play the game in French, to hear French Joel in game dubbing Troy Baker again for the French version of the show😭😭😭😭 We got a voice cameo too! It was really Joel!😭
When David mentioned Pittsburg I got flashbacks to the entrance scene in the game
I immediately noticed the baby girl line and i got the biggest grin on my face after hearing it. Didn't even notice troy baker though and im dissapointed in myself for that
Time for the weekly episode of "Things You Only Missed If You Watched With Your Eyes Closed And Ears Plugged"
did anyone saw that bowl error that they did after Ellie kicked it and it was back to the spot were it was kicked?
I honestly don't know which Cannibals were worst The Last of Us or Terminus from The Walking Dead. 👨🏿💻
I guess terminus, they actively drew in people to process into food... And still continued their diet after the loss of their home... RiP Bob.
@@fnvfan0145 Guess I'll go with The Last of Us they were willing to chop up Ellie while she was still alive. At least Terminus would kill you first.
@@user-em6ie2be7x idk if they were going to kill her first or dismember her alive. Either way, both groups probably dealt with migrant children the same way as adults(unlike Silver Lake, Terminus had a 0% young children population).
Yep, Mojo does the best recap in the shortest amount of time
The big question is? Where were David's people? Why haven't they noticed or heard all the commotion? Lol
That’s how I been seeing this whole thing
I think most of the men were dead
Well, they managed to put Troy Baker in this. Great death scene. Now I'm wondering where Ashley Johnson will be...
He was solid in here, and hearing "Joel's voice" was very very cool!!
iirc Ashley plays Ellie's mother in flashbacks, maybe in the next episode?
@fnvfan0145 That's going to be wild. It's like, 2 Lokis in the same place at the same time. 2 ellies
My favorite episode so far.
Small digression, am I the only one who gets the feeling of warm comfort listening to Rebecca's voice on watchmojo? Comfort of the familiar from way back then☺️
I was hoping that Troy, the original Joel, would have been David. That would’ve been great!
Troy Baker went from The Last of Us protagonist (Joel) to The Last of Us henchman. He also went from protecting Ellie to imprisoning Ellie.
Technically he didn't imprisoned Ellie, David did. He wanted to kill her.
@@peace4myheartgot pretty close to killing her too, but he was a little slow on the draw.
I loved this Colonia Dignidad episode
I wish they would’ve added the part where Ellie and David had to fight off all those clickers
Definitely would have made him look more trustworthy. Especially to people who haven't played the game.
This episode shoud have been split in two parts. First fight with infected, second one the fight with David and the rest.
@@mutantbrain92 Exactly because in game Ellie definitely seemed like she was warming up to him after they fought the infected
@@d.k.9511 I definitely agree that part of the game was pretty lengthy in my opinion so that would’ve executed it perfectly
It’s gonna hurt when they film part 2 and Joel… well, that.
Might not do that just to keep the show going. We'll see.
What exactly was David's plan when he ran out of people in town & they started asking questions? 🤷🏿♂️
They were probably eating people that had already died (who were not infected)
Ellie killing Troy baker. Irony much?
Went to comment something yall missed, or maybe it was known idk, but then I wanted to watch this video first to see if yall spotted it and you didn't....
When that guy came into the room where Joel was laying down and Joel stabbed him, the background music had a familiar sound byte in it....the sound that starts happening in the game when an enemy spots you. It's faint but noticeable. Mixed into the background music.
I had to rewind it back to hear it again but it's definitely the sound
That was nicely noticed broo
2:26 owh. First time seeing the narrator. 😁 Hi
Honestly, I'm grateful that they casted Troy Baker in the show. But I gotta admit he deserves to be more than just a side character.
Facts
Nah, a cameo or small role is a nice addition. Be too "on the nose" if he had a bigger role.
When I saw the last of us episode 8 with my dad i was like when I saw troy Baker dad that is the OG joel
Alright, now that we've seen a sci-fi interpretation of Joel's wound, would two bottles of penicillin do the trick on a wound that deep?
No, not only is penicillin supposed to be injected into a large muscle and administered every 4-6 hours for about a week before it does anything, it's the wrong antibiotic for an intraabdominal infection as it doesn't cover any of the bacteria present there
@@That70sRocker Damnit, I thought they would fix their mistake after remaking the same story for the 4th time XD
8:33 That's my one gripe with the series. They cut out virtually ALL the action sequences that Joel and Ellie had with the infected (or Hunters and Cannibals). Apart from the infected encounter where Tess got bit, there were no areas with Runners that they had to stealth or fight through. No Stalkers that hide around corners and creep up on them. And the one Bloater that we have seen, they weren't even required to take it down. In the game the Bloater fight in the gym was a great first appearance. But once they changed Bill's part it had to be omitted. Ellie sniping the Hunters to show Joel she can handle a gun, changed and omitted. The Clickers and the sleeping Bloater at the uni, omitted. As the vid mentioned, Ellie and David's encounter with the swarm of infected at the abandoned factory with the Bloater that drops down the lift shaft, omitted. And going by the episode 9 trailer the 2 Bloaters and swarm at the underpass will be omitted too. Just like Game of Thrones had the Red Wedding, the Battle of the Bastards and the Battle of Blackwater, big encounters were what the TLoU gameplay was built on and would have taken the series up a notch or 3 instead of just relying on the storyline alone. 9 episodes was definitely not enough for a show of this magnitude.
The woman in episode 8 that had a daughter i thought she could be perfect to play mel in season 2
yeah
THOUGHT THE SAME😭
David: what’s your name? Ellie: Ellie. David: what . Ellie: tell them Ellie broke your fucking finger.😮
Is it me or does David look like Toby from The Office.
The ending of the episode was very rushed, otherwise solid.
*MORE COMMERCIALS NEEEDED!!!*
No me acuerdo que me digas eso que te olvide
good episode
I wonder how they’re going to include Abby’s dad, Marlene’s death and the whole firefly thing at the hospital since I believe there’s only one more episode left of season 1
They could just make the episode longer, an extra episode or they’ll sadly cut out some parts from the game
I wonder if they'll still have the giraffes. Seems like a must have sequence.
Maybe Joel won't kill any doctors and they'll escape and live happily ever after
@@casie6609 ok
@@BleedingEyes666 I was half joking but I'm just so sad that Joel dies haha.....
I'm noticing a lack of infected weird for a post apocalyptic show loving it otherwise
#2 happened in the game as well.
Really wished they included the fight of David and Ellie against the infected. Or at least have an appearance of a bloater. Would've been interesting to watch.
Yeah, they've kind of strayed from the infected and focused more on dealing with other humans. I definitely would have liked to see David and Ellie team up as they did in the game.
I thought that there would be the infected fight because then Ellie would get beaten a third time at her hand and then pretend she was infected would make more sense. Because her scar at her arm is all faded so :/
Who saw in the finale episode trailer a pregnant Ashley Johnson as an infected came for her? So ellies mom was possibly bitten and that's the reason for ellies immunity
Thought the exact same thing
I wouldn’t exactly call James on the show a irredeemable villain. Troy baker said that James in the show is like Joel (literally 😂😂), a normal person trying to make ends meet, then the outbreak happened and that normal and maybe good person was put in a desperate situation. He also said that one of the reasons David never looked to James as an “equal” Like he saw in Ellie, was that James didn’t have a violent heart like David and Ellie (according to David).
Also I love that reference and link to El Camino. And now Jesse and Ellie have something in common, they both killed the same guy 😂😂😂
It’s not enough RUclips has ads now videos put ads in them ???
I don't believe a lot of people missed most of this but especially number 2! This is probably the most important part in the story so believe me nobody missed it!!!!!! 🤣
Yeah it's clickbait haha
My favorite line: “Ellie… tell them that’s the little girl that broke your F&@KING FINGER” 🙌🏽 she’s such a bad ass 👏🏽👏🏽❤️🙌🏽
That creepy bastard definitely didn’t come from the 412 area code
THE SHOW MADE ME FINALLY BUY THE LAST OF US GAME FOR PS5 💪
No it didn't.
The game is better than the show
@@yolurozo9761 true, loving it 💪
@@StanHalen1936 I haven't played the game on PS3, so I finally bought it for PS5 with the upgraded graphics=WOW
When he call her "baby girl"😭😭😭😭
They’re still doing it.
WARNING: El Camino Spoilers!
Kinda weird to put a poiler for a separate unrelated show/movie in this video.
You Know what Else you Missed The Clickers I Mean Where are They in this Whole Show!!!
You can tell @WatchMojo probably watches @HeavySpoilers videos before putting there’s out.
This episode felt rushed. We spent an entire episode learning the background love story of 2 characters who are dead. We spent a whole episode in a mall learning more about a dead person and Ellie.
We spent only one episode with what could have been a multi episode arc about about those bad guys.
Man I can’t wait to see the ending of the show and see Joel at the end kill the doctors
I noticed all of these. Are people really this oblivious to what they are watching???
My only gripes are that David and Ellie should’ve at least killed one infected together before David dropped the twist in her and also Joel should’ve got to Ellie while she was still chopping up David.
He loves her truly and not because he lost his daughter but because she's a lie and he loves her and he's a good dad
I might be stupid but I don't understand why Joel killed the 2 guys in the house after they told him where she was ...
Leave no witnesses and leave no chance for ppl to take revenge, basically, just like in the game 👍 Joel is a hardened, survivalist of 20 years or so; if you were beaten to a pulp and stabbed, you and your friend would more than likely want revenge against Joel 😅
@@kinmingwong-oj9cn hopefully they don't have any kids
In the game it made sense because Joel was a brutal survivor who you don't mess with. In the show he's so scaled back that killing these guys was out of character.
we need more infected!
I haven’t watched it yet.
Then y bother coming here?
Future Watchmojo list Top 10 Times Ellie went Beast Mode. 🧏🏿♂️🙆🏻♀️
How m i missing everytime?
I'd love to see this drama series on Netflix though. Why it isn't available on Netflix???
Cause it's not?? If it was a Netflix original, it wouldn't be as good.
It’s a HBO Max original, why it would be on Netflix?
Does this means that HBO max is better than Netflix??? Does it have monthly subscription fees and can I watch my favorites like the walking dead and resident evil drama??
Gonna take a will stab in the dark that most viewers missed none of these. 4:17 oh, so there was only one deer left in the world?
I miss the zombies
The lack of infected is very disappointing
David in the game still better
they left the best part out of this episode. i’m disappointed
You just got a thumbs down for in video ads.
