Honestly thought he did a really bad job, I mean I get it’s hard to follow a legend like Troy but watching direct comparisons he is not on par with troys line readings for a single word. @@Death_Incarnate That's literally just a list of things that the show used to enhance the show without straying too far from the source. Obviously fans of the games might find a direct adaptation more appealing, but there's a reason so many video game adaptations due horribly as live-action, a major problem being that the plot and pacing of a video game tends to conflict with the pace of a movie or TV show. I loved the game. I remember a couple of years ago I would watch “theRadbrad” play it. He also played the second game and he also played the remake of the original a couple of months ago.
For me, the biggest change came in the human bad guys and how they've been given more depth. In the games, most of the human groups you fight barely even have a personality outside of "wants you dead," they're just another obstacle you blow past while on your way somewhere else. But in the show, they're expanded upon to make them more human and make killing them feel less triumphant. These aren't a bunch of muscular mooks killing because it's fun. These are human beings trying to survive the best they can even if that means doing some truly horrific things.
@@KingOfSnub you mean random mob NPC’s that aren’t important to the main story of joel and ellie at all?💀 the only reason the show added that is because there game is too short and straightfoward so they have to expand it more to make a show.
Did Playtrought The Last Us plenty of times. After watched the show it really delivered. Who to make you're Concept deliver in shows and movies is a different way then deliver in video games. Happy they manage to get this and delivered!
I noticed that in the game when Ellie has to save Joel he falls from a balcony onto a metal pipe which goes through his body in the tv show he just gets stabbed
& when Tess died in the game it were soldiers that killed her. In the Tv series she sacrificed herself because Zombies were coming so she basically set fire to the place with her in it & 💥
Such a great show. The acting, cinematography, directing, writing, design…it all comes together for great piece of art. HBO caught another winner with TLOU. 💯🔥
@COELACANTH people are absolutely sucking off this show, just because they’ve never seen a video game adaptation that isn’t horrible before every bodies pretending this shows perfect 😂
@COELACANTH those are called improvements. . .90% liked it cause they accept the changes are bringing it down to reality other than you guys who think every change is a downgrade
As an Indonesian, it was kinda funny to me that they mentioned Jakarta out of the blue in the first ep (and Joel's reaction to it), and then followed by some random woman eating in a warung in 2003
Number 11, in the game the cordyceps virus is shown to be extremely dangerous and threatening with hordes of infected around each corner, the shows version had a slight change in where rather than millions of infected in the world there’s about 12.
imma strongly disagree, the liberties they took were rarely a win. Especially with their pacing of the mall episode and the bill and frankenship coming JUST after joel got stabbed and tess's death. Spending an entire 2 episodes on made up shit and a DLC meant they had to speedball the ending, whic hthey crammed into 2 episodes. I cant wait for them to do s2 just so I ca nwatch Joel get his head bashed in in e1
@@TheGhostofMrArthurs I'm with ya... Ep 2 was shit... I like the game Bill more... And cramming up all action on the last 2 episode and the Mall scene with riley was not needed.... A few flashback would've suffice
@@jonafangk1288 it wouldnt have fit ND or HBO's narrative though. Naughty Dog been all in on "Girl Power" since Uncharted 4 and Nadine. And well, we ALL know TLOU2 controversy. And HBO was prolly like "You we seen you had an implied gay relationship, can we take some liberties with that? We will trim stuff elsewhere." Then they trimmed the goddamned finale 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@TheGhostofMrArthurs they fill up whole episodes with flashback to please lgbtq community and sacrifices the whole final showdown and majority of possible action scenes and the whole Joel and Ellie bonding 🤣🤣.. For me the show is 5/10
personally, Katleen searching a quest for revenge makes me wonder if that foreshadowing season 2 of the cycle of violence of Abby and Ellie when they search each other for revenge of their fallen loved ones. even though Katleen wasn't part of the game it was a unique touch to this.
Loved the show. They did a really good job on casting, set design and story. Some scenes were even cut right from the game. My only disappointment is the lack of infected. I know, I know. The story is about the people. But still. There are huge infected scenes from the game that are completely cut out of the show. Like when they meet the bloater in the school, or when David and Ellie have to fight off a hoard of infected when Joel is recovering in the basement. Some of the best scenes in the game just skipped. Like someone took all the gameplay and skipped to the cutscenes. 🤷🏼♂️
Never played these game.. but these series seem excellent except that awkward gay season no hatred though but if it's with family than little bit awkward
Honestly this is one of the most detailed and honested reviews I've seen from IGN. I hope this guy reviews more IGN games and movies 10/10 for this review. I can't wait for this film 💯💯
The cause of the Cordyceps outbreak was an outstanding change we barely knew something in the game but giving the outbreak a more specific background is something we all are curious about.
Not only that, in the game the part with Bill was way better. The trap part with Joel, the infected persecution, the Bloater fight in the school... What a wasted opportunity to make an epic episode but they decided to go woke. Hell, even the Director said he tricked the audience. He wanted people to understand that queer love is real and "It's just the same love." Fk that shit lol
I know nothing about the game , had never heard of it so it matters not to me . I think it was a brilliant new twist on the ZOMBIE world which had just about run its course for me The production and the direction were Aplus but most of all the two leads , Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey were riveting, most of the acting was excellent. You know the story line of course strayed into Walking Dead territory like the cannibal cult etc but it never got bogged down in endless this group vs that group of survivor stuff. I enjoyed it.
The show is alright but as a huge fan of the game I’m disappointed in the infected more than anything else. There was only one episode where we saw a shit ton but they almost never appear. No spores either? Annoying
I also didn’t like how they handled the infected. They introduced the hive mind to use it one episode and never use it again. They have a hive mind yet you only see one infected at a time aside from the first 2 episodes and house fire scene. And they never told the audience the difference between each infected so now everyone just calls every infected a “clicker”
the biggest difference for me is less action. this show needs action. Ellie needs longer fighting before killing David, Joel and Ellie needs more action running or fighting with people or infected.
It actually made me laugh out loud at the end when Marlene said something along the lines of “you’re the last person I wanted to be in debt to” to Joel. Because Joel did so little fighting and lost miserably multiple times, the show made him a weak anxious old man and Marlene with an army of soldiers fears him😂
@@joshdeveaux6936eah the show definitely had me question how Joel survived that long. They definitely didn’t do a good job showing him to be a capable fighter or survivor. The show could have definitely used more scenes Joel proficiently killing or escaping the infected or handling other survivors on his own instead of him getting choked out by a kid and getting stabbed by a lone survivor with a broken bat (where he made a personal error and fell on a metal rod in the game) Nothing in the show told me that Joel was a hardened survivor. It showed the opposite, it’s easy to believe a hardened survivor with proven evidence would make it across the country but Joel in the show has no real evidence that he capable of doing so.
I appreciate the show for being authentic, but still managing to add and change some things without it being annoying. the game is great, and im happy to say the show pays it great respect by being as great.
From what I've seen, watch literally any episode being reviewed by basically anyone and you will hear the differences. I love this show, but the fact that it was derived from source material makes the reviews skewed. I guess video game folks want the show to copy the games to the letter. I would much prefer reviewers to base their reviews of the merits of the show itself, but that what I get for being one of those millennial men that really doesn't care that much about video games.
Love the video game but that also means the show was pretty boring because you know everything that's coming. What was changed to try to avoid that from happening clearly wasn't enough or done right imo
Why does Henry say to Joel in the game 'this is all your fault' before shooting himself? Doesn't happen in tv series and wouldn't have made sense either.
@@user-yk4qt2bs5y Oh, I thought he was pointing the gun at Joel when he said it before he points it at his own head. I saw the video game clip out of context before seeing the show.
@@glennbabic5954 he was pointing it at Joel but you actually need to think about it for second lol, it makes perfect sense he was freaking out and looking for someone to blame of course he is going to be erratic and not SEEM to make sense, but yeah as others have said it’s implied that even though he said it at Joel he meant it towards himself
@@joshdeveaux6936 in the show as the moment Sam turned got closer I was wondering what Joel could possibly do to be at fault. If anything Ellie talking loudly in the street attracting the sniper was to blame.
Miller family ethnicity is pretty big one. Overall style and feel of many key characters feels so different because of the casting. Joel and Ellie especially.
The Last of Us changes weren't bad I think it made the story better, like we finally got to learn more about Bill and even for a few minutes got to see Ellie's mom. I do wish they kept Joel falling off the building and a couple other scenes. Edit: If you're going to complain just because of what I said go someplace else, if you hate episode 3 so much go complain to people who hate it and not tell people they're wrong and shit.
We didn't learn anything about Bill that we didn't know from the game. He was gay, him and Frank cared for one another, he knew Joel and Tess and he locked out a town. Unnecessary change into a whole out of place all happy love story when Last of Us is anything but that.
@@UnifiedEntity We got more depth of Bill's character and a sad gay love story. If you do not like the changes then don't watch the show. The Last of Us is about several things not just infected and that stuff.
@@mythical_phoenix Youre fooling yourself if you think we got more depth here than in the game. And Last of Us is about Joel and Ellie, Ellie's immunity, why it would be important to humanity, what humanity has been reduced to which brings the actions of Joel into question. @@UnifiedEntity That's your opinion, its fucking simple if you don't like the changes then don't watch the show. MANY people enjoyed episode 3 your just that 0.1 percent who didn't. I don't have time to argue with someone who refuses to let opinions be opinions.

One of the best shows in recent years. Also one of the slowest tv-shows in terms of pacing yet it's still exciting and engaging compared this to other bug tv-shows like Rings of power where stuff happened all the time yet the story didn't move at all. And for someone like me who haven't played the games I feel I have gotten all the information needed to know the world and characters. Also in comparison to other shows with characters that do horrible stuff you still root for Joel even he has done horrible thing in the past. Looking forward to season two!
@@lr6776 Yes true! Even if season one was a bit slow it still wasn't a bad thing. But I wouldn't mind some more action but not just for the sake of it though. Hope season two will live up to the hype. I don't know if they are going to follow the games and having the show somewhat standalone but anyway if done right the show can be made with many seasons like at least five seasons would not be impossible.
I haven't gamed in many years so I only know the show. BUT Ellie seemed like a real dumbass. Example. The HOPE is her DNA sample will create a vaccine (they don't yet know about drilling into her brain) BUT she decides to help Sam become immune by cutting him with a knife that she knows hasn't been sterilized. PLUS she knows that the knife has stabbed at least one infected person.
@@unomaster6828 no that was done extremely poorly and it was stupid, there is zero logical reason she would have been stupid enough to sleep in the same room as an infected. The point of the arch was to show her childish naivety and hope but given even she admits it she knew it was stupid the idea that she would sleep in the same room as Sam and not tell Joel or henrey risking all of there lives is objectively bad writing. If you think it made sense no offense but you’re choosing to be ignorant.
As much as i love hoiw the show stuck so closely, to the game, like some parts, I though i could just pick up the controller and pretend to play I 100% hope, that when season 2 comes around they wont do the big shocker twist that happens at the start of the game. because they would make me quit watching the show before it even began
While I enjoyed everything they added, perhaps to retcon and improve the game even more, I’m thoroughly disappointed with what they took out…such as the actual threat of the Cordyceps!! First 2 episodes were great, but then they only show this hive-mind threat just once rather than a constant concern and a bloater runs off never to be seen again. It’s like they wanted to be more like TWD toward the latter seasons, but with only 9 episodes to do so, they failed in every way!!
I don't think the time change was necessary for viewers to feel connected. All it did was confuse me and possibly other gamers who knew the source material and were excited for the show. I don't feel like the time change served any real purpose besides confusion.
Apart from the bill and frank episode which played no part of the overall story of Joel and Ellie I think the show was good. Could of done with afew more episodes to flesh out the story as it felt rushed
You guys liked this? Really? Cause to me it feels like they stripped the show of the coolest things and replaced it with modern audiences bs... The game felt brutal and intense, wheres in the show, there simply wasnt enough infected to make the vaccine necessary. Lets take for instance, Henry and Sam. In the game Joel as soon as he sees Henry, he starts fighting him, and once they start talking, Joel tells Henry the reason why he was hitting him so hard it was because he was trying to kill him. In the show Joel wakes up with a deaf kid aiming a gun at him. Definitely the violence was toned down. And the kid being deaf... like why? The world was supposed to be brutal and unforgiving, and they make it more of a joke by making these two do well even with an additional handicap? Doesnt this throw you guys out of immersion? The only reason the kid is deaf because HBO execs wanted to check out the 'we have a disabled character' checkbox. Another instance would be Bill and Frank. The game not only provides some quite intense moments, but also a much more darker story. Bill doesnt live in a pimped out fort with two basement floors but in an abandoned church. Frank didnt get to die of old age but got tired of Bill, left, and got himself bitten. Kinda hoped the show would focus more on dog eats dog and how terrifying and formidable the infected are... instead of the usual modern audiences bit. Call me old fashion, but i do prefer to see that over two dudes kissing in a post apo zombie show.
@@ETG715 Tell me you didn’t pay attention while playing without telling me. They were together but they were toxic, they broke up and Frank ended up hating Bill.
I had no problem with the gay romance thing in episode 3 but it should have played a more vital role in the story it really had nothing to do with it at all it just a romance story. That was dumb in my opinion
Episode 3 is the big difference 🤣🤣🤣 plus those underacting acting.... that's why I find the HBO Ellie lacks of expression unlike with the game Ellie with expressive eyes and good acting
I was a fan of every change they did for the show. My favorite change they did was to David and how much disturbing the it was that his followers didn’t know what meat David was feeding them

@@KingOfSnub you mean random mob NPC’s that aren’t important to the main story of joel and ellie at all?💀 the only reason the show added that is because there game is too short and straightfoward so they have to expand it more to make a show.
Rest In Peace, Annie Wersching, the original Tess. Cancer sucks.
I just wished it had more infected
makes it more realistic. . they dont need to have an infected in every room and road they walk in
I will admit, they completely abandoned the whole hivemind infected idea in the 2nd half of the season.
Despite the minor differences, both adaptations delivered nonetheless.
Minor 😂, watch epesode 3 and then play the section of the game. I’m still trying to find a similarity.
@COELACANTH does that matter?
Did Playtrought The Last Us plenty of times.
After watched the show it really delivered.
Who to make you're Concept deliver in shows and movies is a different way then deliver in video games.
Happy they manage to get this and delivered!
Number 1, less infecteds 😆
I noticed that in the game when Ellie has to save Joel he falls from a balcony onto a metal pipe which goes through his body in the tv show he just gets stabbed
& when Tess died in the game it were soldiers that killed her. In the Tv series she sacrificed herself because Zombies were coming so she basically set fire to the place with her in it & 💥
@@bradcorton740 so. . its better in the show?. . and makes more sense
Such a great show. The acting, cinematography, directing, writing, design…it all comes together for great piece of art. HBO caught another winner with TLOU. 💯🔥

@COELACANTH thats not how things work, if you think your that special . . .your not
As an Indonesian, it was kinda funny to me that they mentioned Jakarta out of the blue in the first ep (and Joel's reaction to it), and then followed by some random woman eating in a warung in 2003
You should add " almost no infected" in the show.
Number 11, in the game the cordyceps virus is shown to be extremely dangerous and threatening with hordes of infected around each corner, the shows version had a slight change in where rather than millions of infected in the world there’s about 12.
*Between the Sam and Henry arc, bill and frank, left behind with Riley. I would say they’re were many changes but who cares, it was a good show.*
And season 2 is gonna be great (hopefully)
imma strongly disagree, the liberties they took were rarely a win.
And well, we ALL know TLOU2 controversy. personally, Katleen searching a quest for revenge makes me wonder if that foreshadowing season 2 of the cycle of violence of Abby and Ellie when they search each other for revenge of their fallen loved ones.
even though Katleen wasn't part of the game it was a unique touch to this.

My biggest and only complaint of the show was that they didn't have enough scenes with the infected.

They did a great job on the show

Annoying
I forget this show had infected tbh, Ellie minds as well have been the cure for the common cold,
I also didn’t like how they handled the infected. They introduced the hive mind to use it one episode and never use it again. They have a hive mind yet you only see one infected at a time aside from the first 2 episodes and house fire scene.
And they never told the audience the difference between each infected so now everyone just calls every infected a “clicker”
So I planned on watching the show but haven't yet is it worth it
It absolutely is worth it, it really does the game justice and even improves on some stuff, like Bill's story
Wasn’t a smoke grenade. It was a stun

The original material is ALWAYS better than the adaptation.
the biggest difference for me is less action. this show needs action.
The show could have definitely used more scenes Joel proficiently killing or escaping the infected or handling other survivors on his own instead of him getting choked out by a kid and getting stabbed by a lone survivor with a broken bat (where he made a personal error and fell on a metal rod in the game)
Nothing in the show told me that Joel was a hardened survivor. It showed the opposite, it’s easy to believe a hardened survivor with proven evidence would make it across the country but Joel in the show has no real evidence that he capable of doing so.
@@KingpinCarlito yeah it and it serously hurts the story, it makes no logical sense Marlene who would have picked Joel for such an important mission.

THE SHOW IS SO GOOD!
💀Origin: "Night of the Living Dead"
Why does Henry say to Joel in the game 'this is all your fault' before shooting himself? Doesn't happen in tv series and wouldn't have made sense either.

THE LAST OF US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been a massive fan of both the games and in my opinion, the acting was much better in the game.
THE SHOW IS AWESOME!
I think season 2 will have more action since they’re more around people
@@lr6776 Yes true!
What about the race swaps of Tommy, Sarah and Maria? The biggest change of the series.
Seems like you missed the point of her character arc
@@unomaster6828 no that was done extremely poorly and it was stupid, there is zero logical reason she would have been stupid enough to sleep in the same room as an infected. The point of the arch was to show her childish naivety and hope but given even she admits it she knew it was stupid the idea that she would sleep in the same room as Sam and not tell Joel or henrey risking all of there lives is objectively bad writing. If you think it made sense no offense but you’re choosing to be ignorant.

Absolutely
I don't think the time change was necessary for viewers to feel connected. All it did was confuse me and possibly other gamers who knew the source material and were excited for the show. I don't feel like the time change served any real purpose besides confusion.
Kathleen oh my
Not smoke grenade, stun grenade or flash bang

I wonder how brutal they'll make Part 2? 🤔
Apart from the bill and frank episode which played no part of the overall story of Joel and Ellie I think the show was good. Could of done with afew more episodes to flesh out the story as it felt rushed
But but, without that episode how would you know the writers are ally’s of the lgbtqrs4!@ community???
@@joshdeveaux6936 cause in the game they were gay?. . thats why?
