Where did all these big trout come from?

  • The stars must have aligned and led a school of big trout into our fishing grounds today. I was beginning to think that the bigger trout had cleared out of that area, but something drew them back.
    On the other hand, these trout seemed to be more particular about the baits and presentations than usual, so maybe there have been more big trout around than I realized. I feel like we may have missed them today if we hadn't tried lipped jerk baits.

    The high salinity is my thoughts for the big girls hanging around. The dam stopped our higher salinity, but a low river helped this year. My 2 cents, thanks for another great video.

    When my line tangles , I let it out the back of the boat at troll speed. Wind it back in under tow and it removes the twist unless it has a knot. Remove the knot and continue. Hope this helps

    The wind knots on spinning tackle are infinitely worse than a backlash on casting gear. The smaller the # test braid, the worse it is too.

      Drifting mostly, at the speed of the wind and stopping occasionally with the SpotLok trolling motor.

    Jon from the rocks all the way back to your boat ,about how deep is it ? I m a fan of salt water wake baits that run around 2 ft under , wonder if they would work in MRGO , long time ago I used them in Hopedale right a long the rock edge , did very well but never casted them from boat to shoreline in the channel ?

    • @JonMillerFishing
      @JonMillerFishing  6 месяцев назад +1

      It’s around 7-9 ft under the boat. There are some trout near the rocks which might hit a shallow running bait.

    @jon miller how do you like that scale? I’ve never been one to weigh fish but would like to start recording weights

    • @JonMillerFishing
      @JonMillerFishing  6 месяцев назад

      The Bubba scale is working very well so far, but I haven't had it long. I used to have cheap digital ones which did all kinds of crazy things. Then I switched to the Bogga Grip with scale, which was reliable but hard to read with much accuracy. The Bubba feels like it's built well. For one thing it's heavy!

      @@JonMillerFishingthank you sir! Let us know how it’s holding up over time. Interesting to have another way to record the size of the fish. Think I caught a PB over there, but it’s hard to say since i don’t weigh them.

    I really like your videos. If I may make a suggestion... All fish are immediately traumatized by being caught and hauled in a boat. I recommend fishing like the MLF Bass fishing tour, and, if you are planning on releasing the fish try to not let them hit the boat or anything else. Try to unhook them and release them without beating them up any more than they already are. This increases their chance of survival after release. That is why the MLF Bass fishing tour deducts points from an angler if the fish hits the boat or anything else.

    Those Trout are not Big. Years ago in the Delaware Bay we caught their cousin the Weakfish up to 15 to 17 pounds with fish even bigger that would break off I fished the beach & caught fish up to 11 lbs. Boats that went out miles caught bigger fish & many of them. They had no limits back them & between that & the Commercials they cleaned them out eventually. They are starting to make a slow comeback after a one fish limit was imposed. To little to late. I have caught Spotted weakfish ( Sea Trout ) from the beach & so far my biggest was five pounds. I am 74 yrs old & have been fishing since I was 3 yrs. old.

      Me caught two book ends, 6.13 # each in mouth of Hot water Canal, on H&H 3” purple beetle with ¼ oz. round H&H white head with gold hook. Biggest caught 7# plus at Bulk Terminal.
      All within a few miles from me house in Chalmette Louisiana. We have BIG Silverwonders , (aka Trout) in Louisiana, they don’t call us “Sportsmen Paradise” for nothing.

      Hate to bust your bubble, but in the past, I fished, the Ocean Beach, Inlet beach & bay beach. I fished the Delaware Bay beach well over 15 miles up from where the Bay meets the ocean & caught my biggest ever there, it was 12 lbs. The fish I caught in the inlet were on a white bucktail with a orange 6" grub. I have also caught many fish in the 5 to 8 lb. class in the inlets & bays on Mullet, live of dead & Peanut bunker, live. I would net my own bait at night in the back bays. You say I'm comparing Ocean side with bay, well, I have caught weakfish in my life from Ocean to Bay & I did not have the benefit of a boat. So do not give me that. When I was a ore teen & up till I went in the Navy, I mated on a party boat & back then had the pleasure of catching over 10 lb. weakfish when I had the chance. They were caught in the Delaware bay.@@ETuss713
