THANKS FOR INFO DAVIN!!! THE CHANGE THAT KILLED THE TROUT FISHING WAS THE ROCK DAM IN THE ICW AND THE GREAT WALL CHANGED THE BITE ALL OVER FROM HOPEDALE TO LAKE P.. LAKE BORGNE HAS CHANGED, JUST MY OPINION... AFTER KATRINA I WAS CATCHING 6LB AND 7LB TROUT AT SEA BROOK A LOT AND HAD BEAUITFUL GREEN WATER POURING INTO THE LAKE...
Great video Devin. Thank you for making this and educating the speckled trout anglers. I for one agree with everything you mentioned in this video and it’s spot on. Thanks again for making this!
Extremely well developed presentation Devin ! I haven’t posted on LAFB for quite a while but I continue to follow all of your posts. This year I’ve fished infrequently, but I’ve succeeded at Fourchon and inshore at the Sulfur Mine near Larose. Salty water is much further north with the drought. That, combined with the new limits should be a double whammy for population comeback! Thanks for continued support and education on your blogs. RodFather (LAFB Elite).
Loved the video. I’m new to owning a boat and have only been saltwater fishing a couple times. We did all right but we never caught our limits but I don’t care about limiting out. I just love fishing. Most of the time I give all the fish to my family who is usually in the boat with me. I’m glad they changed the regulations before we had nothing to catch anymore. Thank you for the education and keep the knowledge coming. Happy new year to you and your family and tight lines.
Look I fished for first time in Dauphin Island AL this past summer. What a great trip as we caught limits, 6 trout per person, min 16” size. I have not done that around Cocodrie in past 3 years. So that is enough proof for me that increase size and reduce limits work. I will be back to AL this summer
THANK YOU! Thank you , thank you, thank you!! Someone who finally seems to understand that there are a multitude of things that have caused the trout fishing to decline drastically over the last nearly 20 years. And had to evidence and facts to back it up. Very well said Capt.👏 Bravo sir. I believe in the next couple years, the trout fishing will be better. Possibly the best of our life time.
Spot on! I think the trout just moved in past years with the freshening. Mississippi the past 5 years has seen the best fishing it has had since I can remember. No doubt there are more people fishing which takes a hit on the population also. I think with the good salinity now and the new limits the trout population should see a dramatic increase in the new few years.
Excellent video. The freshening and saltening makes perfect sense, regardless of other factors. On the east coast we have seen the same thing. Fishing on the Outer Banks in NC, old timers will tell you how salty the water was and having to constantly clean the dried spray on the windows so you could see. While at risk of sounding like a tree hugger, it is true all of the trees/forest that are cut down for urbanization/farming has led to more runoff (freshwater), without the trees/forest to “drink” it before being dumped into the streams/rivers. Compound this with more fertilizers and nutrients from the runoff causing other issues (think “red tide” in FL), and it’s easy to see why a “freshening” could hinder spawning. In NC, our limit is 4 Speckled Trout per person at 14", and it keeps getting worse.
15:13 that would be fine if they were say OK will do this and when the fish population comes back out, will redo the limits but they don’t they just re-limit and redo the limit and redo the limit until eventually, you can’t catch any really put it in perspective for you we have a gas crisis they start charging through the nose for fuel. The taxes go up on the fuel that’s where the big increase comes from, but when all of that, settles down the tax and never drops, same thing here I remember when the creel limit was I believe 50 and then 25 and to be honest I’m fine with 15 but the 13 and 20 needs to go away
We smashed some trout last year in lake Calebasse, big rain storm came through and we couldn’t buy a fish in there after that. The water wasn’t crazy muddy but it definitely dirtied up and had a lot of small debris floating in it. I couldn’t believe In the short time it took for all that rain to dump, the trout left out in a hurry.
I'm east central Fla on coast.. haven't kept a trout in 10 years...I've caught a handful just not there anymore. Our water quality is poor..Tampa different story you are blessed ❤
Maybe one day the Morganza spillway will be utilized as intended, should rotate the opening of this and BonneCarrie when required instead of always punishing Lake Pontchartrain… also open the rocks up again and let MRGO bring more saltwater …so many 10+ pound trout were caught at Seabrook in 2001-2003…. Limits were easily obtained in the early 2000s with >100 boats fishing at Seabrook. With a 15 limit, charter captains will be running two trips per day and putting more pressure on the fish.
As a Texan, we are fighting to recover from our freezes. Im glad we have made changes to protect our resource. I find it disheartening when I see 26" trout on a dock just for a pic.
I think 5 per person and minimum of 15’ inch is good for me that just my opinion I remember back when I was growing trout fishing was way better then now.
This should already be a answered with the information from big lake over the past several years. How did that turn out?? Wish "they" would let us know if the outcome was so good thats why we changed the whole state.
The limit in Louisiana is crazy. Limits should be lower. Here in Va we have a five fish limit. A size limit of 14" to 24" with one over 24. How many fish can you eat in one sitting. A two member family probably needs only two fish per meal plus sides. I believe speckled trout don't freeze well. Eat them fresh J could say more but I'd probably get bashed. This is my feelings
I’d be willing to be that when these new limits improve the fishery back to where it was, y’all’s limits will change again probably. Yall will probably be close to upper Texas limits eventually
Hell no it won't help. If chemicals and fertilizer was stopped from being dumped into the Mississippi then yes, that would help. As a kid catching 6/7/8 pound specks from the roadside in Leeville was the norm.
I think you’re right for that area. I don’t think all areas need to be managed the same. West side of the state has been 15 for years and we haven’t see any increase of larger fish. Mostly over stock of smaller fish. To many small fish competing for bait.
Your heading for Texas limits. The more people are fishing the worse it’s going to get. Especially more guides. We had 10 for years then 5 now freaking 3. Ridiculous. But 25 12’s was pretty stupid. Hell 10 is a lot.10 15’s is a good limit. No one should b keeping a 12” trout.
The people aren’t keeping undersize fish with hurtin The fish is there is 100 captains launching at every single boat Launch every day of the week two or three customers per boat up to two trips per day. There’s thousands of fish in a week just from one area that’s the harm.
BOO-HOO..... you all are so spoiled. How about it taking all day to catch 5 at 15 inches! IN 100% SALT 28-30ppt. No fresh! The opposite. and current so bad, 4 oz. in 20'. Boo - Hoo!
@@JamesJones-cx5pk STILL SPOILED AS HELL!!!!! come to Florida if ya want to talk being OVER regulated! You've lived the good life so long. Ya'll don't know what being regulated even means. I can’t believe I’m just discovering this channel! I’ve been following your other channel, but man this is good stuff.
I wish they would put a slot on them up here in NC and SC. 13”-20” 8-10 fish limit. Anything over 20 must go back

Over here in North Carolina they got to be 14 inches and we're only allowed fm4 fish per person

Another problem where I fish, terrebonne, is that I seem to catch way too many bull reds and very few in the 16-20” size. What is going on here?
Woah when the hell did you create a new youtube channel?? SUBSCRIBED
Do you think the Maurepas Swamp diversion will freshen the lake to the point it negatively affects lake borgne and Biloxi marsh?
Everything done in This world by man has a reaction
Thats crazy i remember for a while here in texas it was 5 and they had to be 15" or more. 25 is insane lol

@@martinramirez6971 we don't care what you think, the problem is the multitude of guides
Coastal erosion mixed with over fishing. Just hope they changed the limits quick enough.

I totally agree with the excess fresh water theory
The idea of keeping 25 specks is insane amd ill never understand why people fight it.
Because they are greedy

It works hard headed people will see this
Just be thankful you aren't like Florida where we can only keep 3 per person 15-19" with one over
Pogie boats don’t help either!
There's way too many bullreds
That all depends how you define improvement. If all you care about is harvesting as many fish as you can, then it's not an improvement.
Raising the sizes limit was all they had to do
The fact y’all have to measure the small ones should tell you something.

8 are plenty, how much fish are you really going to eat kids. 3 a week is good enough for me and the sugar trout in the winter keep the fridge full
15 fish is plenty.
Guides
Should have been changed like 10 yrs ago. Over fishing by charter guides for sure, then disappearing marsh
That fish wasn’t even close to 13. That’s why they changed the size limit bc ppl are greedy and keeping undersized fish
Watch it again.... He was showing a video clip from the past when the size min was 12" and the limit was 25... fish was legal in that clip.

Good content but please stop being wishy washy and straddling the fence on whether you think the creel limit change was needed…

Thousands of inshore shrimp boats don't help
