      I seen some really weird tree ones. Where it look like a tree and it had leaves that all stuck-up, but they made circles all the leaves on it and it would create power. The latest thing I saw the other days you can buy a self. Propelled Water driven system for your home. You just drop it in a little river and it just spirals all the time and send power solar batteries. Hopefully this is the kind of direction we start heading in. Lot more jobs are going to be in Volve with green energy.

    It would probably run twice as fast if they weren't all lagged together and you could add 5 more generators(one on each shaft). It looks very cool but that's it. If you want to connect them together use a wire instead in one circuit.

  • @pauljs75

    That's kind of funky. Although I get what you're doing in terms of combining effective surface area. How does one deal with balance issues relating to the connecting rods? (Once it gets going, that force isn't going to be insignificant.) Seems like it'd have been easier to use a bike chain, as you'd not have all that mass going back and forth, and you'd just have to deal with a tensioner system instead.

    • @pieter1928

    While visually impressive the meeting edges of the cylindrical turbines are travelling in opposite directions to each other. Careful testing, with different cylinder spacings, may pay dividends in increased power output through a reduction in mutual air resistance. As shown, they are effectively acting as constant air brakes on each other.

    • @strictnonconformist7369
      @strictnonconformist7369 3 года назад

      I noticed and was surprised to see that once I saw the video instead of the paused thumbnail.
      On the other hand, in high winds, that may work as a potentially useful automatic overspeed airbrake, assuming the support structure can take all the bending torques from that wind.

  • @dragmit
    @dragmit 5 лет назад +1

    Nice! How well would this design compress air? High pressure low volume or low pressure high looks very promising! I habe done some extensive study om hydro turbine sustems and found their overall efficiencies swing from 16% down to less then 5%! Lots of room for improbement with compressed air injected into water then captured at the bottom in a hydro conveyor. Lots of accelerated mass losses avoided. Now you can store wind energy in the form of compressed air for use on no wind days! Keep up the good work!

  • @michaelvanallen6400
    @michaelvanallen6400 3 месяца назад

    Nice toy. All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity! And only at very high costs! Because there is hardly any wind close to the ground.
    It is also extremely gusty, which usually shortens the service life extremely! Only if you are off grid & live close to the sea, you should install the largest possible wind turbine on a high mast for the winter. Because 100% more wind = 800% more electricity!
    But due to the extreme drop in the price of solar panels, they produce 25 to 30 years at approx. 2% to 5% of the cost of small wind turbines! Reliable and almost maintenance-free.

    • @strictnonconformist7369

      I would have to also add it may also be a more rational use of material and volume as well, since you have the law of cubes for wind power as well as materials and required strength, and the forces in any given direction would be harder to spread out on the top/side of the building when there is strong torque from winds.

    Did you compare losses between two options?
    Which is more efficient?
    Is there any loss when every turbine do not receive same amount of wind.
    Option 1: Each turbine generates electricity and Connect batteries in series.
    Option2: Connecting wind turbines in series and generate electricity in a single turbine.
    Thank you in advance.

    • @christophvonwaldhuf
      @christophvonwaldhuf 2 года назад

      it’s definitely less efficient because there is friction in each bearing
      plus more maintenance because bearings exposed to the elements
      if wind blows directly from the side the outside one blocks wind for the others
      there are more problems to like high mass of that rotating beam, slow rotation speed of generator shaft (more inefficient)

    • @PeterHendricks59
      @PeterHendricks59 5 лет назад

      Even a well-lubed chain will have far more friction losses. Just try turning the rear wheel of a big bike. Plus, you would need rollers to direct the chain over all the sprockets (or have every other turbine counter-rotating).

    • @davemwangi05
      @davemwangi05 5 лет назад +1

      @@PeterHendricks59 Yeah, tell these guys, I don't know what they're complaining about, they should embrace the design. From what I gather, a four bar linkage can achieve 99% efficiency. but a chain / V-belt system etc will have losses and will achieve only 93%.

  • @Froggability
    @Froggability 4 года назад

    This is interesting, so I looked up VAWT Vertical Axis Wind turbine, advantages is omni directional, and on a large wind farm can deliver 10 x the power per acre. (Wikipedia)
    Anyone worried about friction losses, its not a big loss. Chains and gearing require more greasing and maintenance. This can use long life sealed bearings. Reliability is more important than efficiency.
    Crank shafts are in most cars, they aren't too bad.
    The real test will be when the wind hits 30 knots +

    With all the turbines spinning the same direction, you lose quite a bit of potential where the blade tips are near each other. Alternating the direction of rotation would pick up some efficiency w/o changing anything else.

    • @nailsonbarroso
      @nailsonbarroso  5 лет назад

      Hello Christian, I will try to explain very briefly. The efficiency of these turbines is only 1/4 of the blades, the other 3/4 do not capture kinetic energy from the winds. I did several tests for months (24). The subject is much more complex to explain in a very brief text.

    • @ChristnThms
      @ChristnThms 5 лет назад +1

      @@nailsonbarroso I understand aerodynamics just fine. The point where the blades from each fan pass closest to each other imparts sheer forces on each other. Basically, because the blades are moving at nearlynequal speeds in opposite directions, you create an area of much higher air friction there.
      So, of whatever amount of energy captured from the wind stream, you lose more of it to friction this way.
      By reversing every other turbine, those points where they pass close to each other are moving in the same direction, so no wind sheer created.
      Of course, this makes the linkage an issue. A chain drive might be necessary to facilitate the direction changes.

    • @nailsonbarroso
      @nailsonbarroso  5 лет назад

      @@ChristnThms The mechanical power loss using any other mechanism whether it is chain, belt or cogged gears is much larger than that of this friction area supports you mentioned. Remember that the higher the energy production the smaller the rotation of the turbines.

    High capital cost, low power, high maintenance, large space compared to PV panels.
    How much cost & time to make?
    How many kWh per day& per month?
    wind speed to produce 1 kW?

    Probably a lot less bird strikes with this design, unlike the large three-blade kind decimating our wildlife.

      Easy way to stop that is put a solar charging battery operated squawk box on the propeller wind turbines and have it squawk out noises to scare birds away.

    Now, imagine doing 65 mph in your homemade electric car and a couple smaller diameter fans are regenerating the power and cooling the charge controller.

    • @eds6889
      @eds6889 5 лет назад +4

      Art of war and peace that is parasitic drag. The energy it takes to drive the fans comes from the car itself with loses. Better off just running those things direct from the battery. But keep thinking about making things better, success comes from trying.

    Как вы считаете, несколько маломощных, отдельных турбин с генераторами лучше, чем один большой мощности? Do you think several low-powered, separate turbines with generators are better than one high-powered ones?

    • @nailsonbarroso
      @nailsonbarroso  5 лет назад

      The main problem in the production of electric energy through wind generators is the poor efficiency in capturing the kinetic energy of the wind. Today in the world these wind turbines on the market have low efficiency.

    Bad design:6 moving mass (connected in tandem) non-linear friction and drag, solution 6 turbines , 6 generators to 6 controllers higher efficiency and counterweight/coupled rotational balancing issues

  • @allanrussell353

    This thing wouldn't start turning by itself as there is too much mechanical resistance to over come.
    Then its only connected to one generator, or maybe not as we don't get to see the whole thing.
    It would be more efficient if the turbines each had there own generator.
    Wattage?
    Probably zero with a set up like that.
    Truth be known the whole thing is probably connected to an electric motor to actually turn it?
