Curious if you yourself have dabbled in dance? - love all the insights you gave into this! Hyunjin's dancing is probably what first drew me to SKZ, they were the first 'male group' I really came to know and they still blow me away.
I did dance hip hop when I was younger. But now I only just really love watching dance videos, but all the technical stuff is just some of my own thoughts, not knowing if it's correct 😅
The drop and smile part almost did not happen. He was planning a backflip and changed it at the last minute because they thought it would have more impact this way. And they were right. Also, the rose petals falling was a mistake, but the director loved it so much that they kept it in. And the funniest parts about this video are- 1. The fact that they had to keep gluing the belly button ring on because it falling off and 2. That one button holding on for dear life by the end of the video.
I think I will remember Hyunjin picking up that rose in his teeth for the rest of my life
Haha, it was way to smooth 😅
Also, there is a lot of his own story, because fandom call him prince, but scandal turn him in a beast, thanks to haters and greedy people. Whatever, he come back much stronger and confident. Like a king.
Oh, also this is the first thing that he did when he came back from hiatus. It was like his way of coming back with a vengeance... Sort of like "Here I am.. Did you miss me?".
He was 21, he's so freaking talented you need to see his other dance videos AOTM, WHEN THE PARTY IS OVER, PSYCHO.
I just want to give you a little bit of a look into the choreography that Hyunjin made here, since everything, from the dance itself, through the song chosen, outfit chosen, tiding up his hair and even the props like mirror and the rose - all these things were his idea. Play with fire is a story about beautiful prince (everyone's been refering to Hyunjin as a "prince" since the school) who is considered as just beautiful and elegant and perfect but he has a wild animal inside and his heart is full of fire, especially while he dances. That's why he looks so messy at the end, because every person has flaws and imperfections. At the beginning when he pops and chokes himself it's his true imperfect and wild nature coming out of him, breaking through the "perfect prince shell" and at the end he's choking himself again, silencing that wild nature that can't be released and he just walks away back to his schedules and normal work, back to trying to be perfect in the society and industry that requires perfection in every aspect. It's a dance about passion that burns within him but can't be fulfilled in the way he wants. Hyunjin has an artistic soul and express himself through the art, making choregraphies, making photos or drawing, and this is his own story he wanted to tell us after four months of being silenced and hidden.
That's such a beautiful way to portray that! Thank you for the comment!
In answer to your question, he was 21 when he made this. But after it released, detective STAYs went back through his vlives and similar content, and it turns out he can be seen working on bits of this choreo for quite a while prior, stretching back to when he was 20 (and possibly 19, but I can't remember the exact date range right now).
Oh wauw! that's insane!
yeah.. it takes a WHILE to calm down once you've discovered hyunjin.. he is just ART. I still am not over this and saw it last year lol
Hyunjin is so talented, I love watching him dance. One of my favorits is Artist Of The Month
Fun fact: he also paints and has a couple of songs composed by him.
Really? Amazing! 🤗
@@rebeccavillebro2718 he just released a solo song "Love Untold" as part of SKZ Replay...do check it out
Hyunjin basically planned on killing us on hiatus 😄😂
This video was uploaded on July 9, 2021.
When this video was uploaded, I was so immersed that I forgot to breathe.
He's just an art in itself.
I hope you watch HYUNJIN's studio dance video that came out 3 months later.(ruclips.net/video/T-ajHVsMcKk/видео.html)
And there's one more video you have to watch. This video was uploaded on June 26, 2020.(ruclips.net/video/0Y8HdSGRaSs/видео.html)
one thing im confused about is HIS SHIRT WAS TUCKED IN AT FIRST AND THEN IN LIKE THE MIDDLE ITS JUST SUDDENLY UNTUCKED- im not sure if he untucked it during the dance on purpose or if it just untucked itself- and also im sure his bottom buttons were buttoned right- and then its just unbutton in the end. TOO SMOOTH
When the Party's Over is very contemporary and his Artist of the Month performance of Post Malone's Motley Crew are a must! The way he makes the most and feels every nuance of the music and highlights parts of the song you wouldn't expect. His musicality is off the charts.
This is everything Hyunjin my bias but honestly I feel like when your a Stay you never “really” have a bias they all rotate like a revolving door depending on content but just because they are all so talented !!
stray kids recently released an unpromoted album Replay. it has i think 16? songs that are old but they were released only on youtube but now they will be on spotify. but there is 8 new song that are solos(connected, limbo, doodle, love untold, deep end, stars and raindrops, hug me). you could react to them!( with color coded lyrics). i think it would be interesting for you to see just their solo stuff and their style and how different they are when they arent together ig
Hyunjin es muy talentoso y Hermoso ❤
Yeah Hyunjin's dancing is a lethal mixture of butter smooth & lazer sharp.. and the way he can just transition between the two is mind-blowing!!
A year ago, he was picked for Studio Choom's 'Artist of the Month' and he murdered that! With 33 million views, that video is ranking 12 in their whole channel.. really hope u add it to your list ! And I love your very specific remarks. It's as if you're a dancer yourself lol.. are you? 👀
Hahaha your too kind! I'm not a dancer no, I just really love dance!
Don't worry the video is already on my list, so I'll react to it soon!
People will also make sure to point you toward Hyunjin's AOTM, When the Party's Over, Criminal, and more, so I don't need to.
Hopefully some will also tell you to watch Lee Know's original "Dawn" piece, which is indeed worth seeing. However, while striking and deeper than maybe some people notice on first watch, it's not made to have the same kind of emotionally moving effect as Play With Fire. Lee Know and Hyunjin and Felix are all very different dancers, with different focuses, and Lee Know's tends to be power and precision in contrast to Felix's energy and vibrancy or Hyunjin's grace and emotiveness. Unfortunately, as dance leader -- like Chan as overall leader -- Lee Know explicitly prefers to step back and lead from outside the spotlight, leaving the others to be highlighted without him. He's flat-out said this, that he adjusts his skills and performance level to match with the team rather than stand out, so they present as a unified group. Which is laudable -- and which takes a _lot_ of skill, blending in when you naturally stand out -- but it tends to lead to him getting overlooked a lot (although he's finally starting to get a bit more recognition as the fandom's grown so much recently). In an ideal world, we'd get to see all three members of Danceracha shining in solos of their craft more often.
Anyway, his preference to leave the spotlight for the others means we don't have anything longer than Dawn as a solo, at least through SKZ's releases. But we do occasionally get a good (albeit short) solo during live stages. Of them, I'd suggest two for their emotional feel or depth of meaning.
The first is his Golden Disc Awards 2019 stage, which he performed with a child dancer. The overall SKZ performance was drawn from the I Am NOT/I Am WHO/I Am YOU album trilogy, which centers around themes of doubt, growth/growing up, reflection, self-discovery, and whatnot. In this stage, Lee Know and the young dancer portray the adult and child versions of one person, first mirroring each other and then breaking through and accepting their relation and coming together to move forward. It's beautiful. (Bonus for it being one of the moments when we get to see how very conscious Lee Know is of every single thing on stage and how instinctive and natural his reflexes and adjustments are. When the child dancer stumbles, Lee Know catches him -- completely behind, literally behind his own back -- without a single glitch in performance, and blends it so seamlessly into the choreo that a lot of people never notice it happened.) ruclips.net/video/JawHS_hYiR0/видео.html
The other is his very short special stage solo (literally less than 40 seconds) for Kingdom, which is embarrassingly underviewed because I swear 99% of the fandom, including the ones who've watched Kingdom, don't even know it exists. But it was actually part of the kickoff of Kingdom, wherein a member from each group danced a mini solo to introduce their group and the group's...vibe, theme, whatever for the upcoming competition. In SKZ's case, it was wolves, an element they used throughout the entire show. And Lee Know's short contemporary piece is gorgeous and was a powerful declaration of the group to set the stage for them. It's haunting and feral. ruclips.net/video/YRryu_P06mw/видео.html
He has other stage solos (his MJ-esque 2020 Back Door solo, for example, is iconic ruclips.net/video/pnbAXpJNvvo/видео.html ), but the majority are, again, more about power, precision, liquidity, rather than deeper emotional meanings, so the few more emotion-driven solos are like hidden treasures. As you continue your SKZ journey, I hope you'll eventually get to check out those stages, as well as stages from all the other members in their various racha specialties.
