I haven't uploaded anything proper for months and I feel terrible. I wanted to do this for ages, and although it's less than halfway complete I'm content I could get my ass to move and make this sort of AU!

Holy shit. I know this is old, but I love seeing Appledusk portrayed like an actual cat with feelings instead of just… as heartless as Mapleshade for some reason. Because he absolutely wasn’t. He cheated on her, that’s bad, yeah, I don’t excuse that, but she wasn’t exactly the healthiest partner anyways (if you go back and reread, she’s pretty weirdly possessive and excusing of his accidental murder of Birchface even before the kits come along), and he did genuinely love their kits and was clearly upset when they died. He was justified in blaming her for it, because _what the fuck,_ she _shouldn’t_ have crossed a flooding river with them in a storm. We know that Perchpaw really respected him and enjoyed training with him and we know that he was selfless enough to die taking a blow for Reedshine and his unborn kits. I really want to know more about him, honestly. He wasn’t a good cat but he couldn’t have been nearly as bad as the fandom makes him out to be. He ended up in StarClan for a reason.
Like, genuinely, actually… put yourself in his position.
THREE OF YOUR KIDS JUST DROWNED RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. You couldn’t save them, but you _did_ save your secret wife- your secret wife who had just gotten EXILED from her home after her relationship with you was discovered. And for some godforsaken reason, she took your kids via the most dangerous possible route and that’s got them killed. So here she is, wet and grieving in front of your leader, and after getting caught and getting your kids killed, she wants to live with you. You’ve already got another wife who’s not toxic and thinks no less of you and has kids on the way- kids that won’t suffer the same fate as the dead ones. It’s a chance to start over, to forget about all of the mistakes that led to this point, to try again the _right_ way. And you know damn well that there’s the possibility of exile looming right over your head if you show sympathy- you know it because that’s just what happened to _her._
So when she looks at you and asks for support, do you offer it, or do you deny her?
Appledusk absolutely did the wrong thing. There’s no denying that. He was an asshole and what he did was incredibly unfair and insensitive to Mapleshade.
_But can you really blame him???_
@@axelf9947Also, if he would have left mapleshade, she probably would have hurt him. So if he did cheat (it is never explicitly stated that he did so, he actually never shows any romantic interest in reed even when reed tries to do it with him until after mapleshade gets exiled) he probably felt like it was the only option because again, mapleshade probably would have hurt him if he tried to leave the toxic relationship.
@@Kumonekowo That's a valid point. I wouldn't quite go _that_ far, but what I will say is that the first time we see Appledusk, he is acting blatantly uncomfortable with Mapleshade. He tries to get her to leave him alone by hinting that she shouldn't be there, and she even mentions herself that he hadn't shown up to their last few meetings- so clearly he wasn't too interested in sticking with her even before she told him she was pregnant.
When Reedshine is shown flirting with him at that same gathering, he doesn't actually resist her or do anything about it at all. He's mentioned to glance nervously back towards Mapleshade, but that's it- and Reed was already pregnant when the MapleApple kits died, so it's pretty clear that he was in fact cheating lol. Not that its unexpected, seeing as how he was clearly unhappy w Maple :p
tldr: yeah apple did cheat and he is a jerk but he also gave a bunch of signs early on that he was uneasy w mapleshade, so. take that as you will
Okay can I just say how much I love this?? Breaking bad audio, and not something that just tries to justify her actions, but instead makes it clear that what she did was wrong and unjustified? God this is so good aaaaaahh

@@Jrtara123 honestly though! Like, villains with backstories are great and all, but sometimes it's more interesting to bring forth an idea of "they just like doing these things" mentality. I feel we got a bit of that in Darkstripe but he still had his "tragic backstory". Tigerclaw I guess is the only closest besides Sol? I can't remember much of Sol's backstory or how it would justify what he did but yeah.

I love mapleshade and this video! Appledusk was a Giant asshole but like he doesn't deserve cat hell for it, unlike mapleshade who ya know, killed three people. I have a headcanon where Appledusk becomes a better person in starclan and apologizes to his own murderer about abandoning her and her kids. I hate appledusk a lot because what he did was disgusting but like he definitely doesn't deserve hell but that doesn't make him a good person.
I like to imagine he take care of his kits in Starclan

Amazing. As comments have said, maple thought of her kits as something that would put a lock on apple dusk, and that would give her power. Apple doesn't deserve what happened to him. Was leafpool disloyal for having kits, THREE kits with crow? No. If i remember correctly, apple Dusk became mates with reedshine after the breakup. No, he isn't worse than maple, but he did deserve to be punished. Maple was exiled for having a forbidden relationship, but i think there might've been a chance that she wouldn't be exiled if she had clearled up the birch face rummor.
None of what has been said is true. Everything that is written here is an insult to the child.

Though I adored Mapleshade from the moment she slunk into existence in Crookedstar's Promise, I'm so sick of the fandom itself acting like her 'sob story' justifies her actions. This is such a good take on a misused character... love my evil gal being evil, just because she's evil! Hell yeah! What happened to her was undeniably tragic but like, at the end of the day she's essentially taking 'justice' into her own hands (paws?) and killed three (more now) cats with her children's lives an excuse. You cant really sugarcoat that, and also yeah just let her vibe being evil!!

Mapleshade didn't kill Appledusk because he rejected her. She did it because she enjoyed causing pain. She continued to be cruel even after death because she enjoyed hurting cats. I hate it when people believe that Mapleshade’s actions are justified by her harsh treatment. All the misfortune that befalled her was a direct result of her ignorance.
Yep, a lot of people say she did it out of grief in that moment. Ahem? She’s been dead for possibly around 19+ years now, she claims in TPONS that she would love to draw blood (kill someone) again. Those are not the actions of a grieving mother but a psycho

Finaaally, something that isn’t justifying Mapleshade. She isn’t some saint, and I’m glad that this is representing that. Appledusk was a big asshole but he didn’t deserve death and I’m so tired of hearing it. (Same thing for Freckle and Raven, they didn’t deserve death)

That's pretty goooood! I like the fact that mapleshade finally open her eyes and accepts the fact that she did all of this for her. She no longer hides behind the "I did it all for the kids".
However remember that when you establish the placement of the characters, hold on to it. It was more visible for Appledusk: he is way more in the center when he should be in the right. Uselly on animations, it's more enjoyable to have the side on which the charas are facing "empty"! So yeah, little tip for next time though it's been two hall years XD

Appledusk is one of my fav characters, with Sol, Blackstar and Crowfeather. His a complex characters, not evil or bad, but not innocent too, i love those characters, they make mistakes and that make them more real

Ik I said this a while ago, and I still stand by my views, but to anyone who might read this and think Frecklewish let maples kits drown, shes a thunderclan cat and cant swim. And when maples kits drowned a riverclan patrol showed up. When she finds out maples kits died, she obviously feels sorry and wishes she could have done more to help.
Also, mapleshade was definitely using her kits as some sort of seal around her and apples relationship,,
"Hes mine, frecklewish! And these kits will make sure of that"
And even if she wasnt, that's some gross possessive behavior she had over appledusk.

Firstly he and reed weren’t even together when Mapleshade was pregnant and secondly he didn’t use her as a bargaining chip she chose to defend him he didn’t ask or her nor did he seek for her help. I've never seen such good portrayal of her, people really don't address that the fact is when she was pregnant she was talking about how her kids were going to be used as weapons. She literally said that her kits would secure her spot, that they were her lovers kits. They weren't people to her. And neither were the cats she killed, they weren't people to her either.
Facts. Also she was abusing a little child (Crookedkit).
She wasn't good person. She didn't have to revenge, but she wanted it, she liked it, she did it for herself

One of her kits literally cried about how there was too much water but she still thought it was a GREAT idea to cross this clear dangerous river when she could’ve waited it out, gone to the barn, gone to the twoleg place or she could’ve crossed that bridge to riverclan that she crosses later in the book

She made herself believe that of she killed the cats that wronged her that her kits would be at peice. We were reminded through out the book that she loved her kits, and when they died because of the river currents, she was devastated and had a mental breakdown so strong that she had hallucinations of her kits. And the fact that people say she was a bad mother is kinda wrong because she was a thunder clan cat, and she was being exiled at the time, so how could any cat be able to tell her the river current wasn't safe, she certainly didn't know, if she knew then she wouldn't have done it.
The river clan cats directly told her that the river is unsafe for the kits even when it’s calm, even her kits told her, she was ignoring them. When she died she continued killing cats for 20+ years, her mental breakdown couldn’t have continued that long, but she kept killing and continually says she enjoys it.

Mapleshade isn't a good cat, but bear in mind she hallucinated her kits telling her to avenge them so they could go to Starclan.
Not really. When you actually read the book, what happened was that she decided to kill Ravenwing herself. No hallucinations, no messages from her kits. After she killed him, she had another dream and thought she could only hear the voices of two of her kits. That's when she decided her vengeance wasn't complete and she should go kill Frecklewish and Reedshine.
That doesn’t excuse what she did so stop.
