Best video I've seen using this little Wagner gun. The prep work is so necessary I've seen so many hack videos where guys just half ass tape up some plastic.
I do popcorn ceiling repairs everyday i use the exact same sprayer and exact same product. What i like to do is after finish plastering I like to sand the edges with 60 grit sanding sponge and apply primer. Like you said its almost impossible to color match the ceiling if its painted then i mix paint water and texture it come out flawless no paint needed afterwards. Btw thank you for the video on how to do it properly most of the popcorn repair videos are terrible
What kind of air pressure do you normally use? I bought a gun from harbor freight but I’ve never used it yet. I’m hoping I don’t completely screw it up.
Good video, I just purchased one of the Wagners Sprayers. I've always used a traditional hopper, but I'm tired of hauling the hose, compressor and putting up with the noise. I have a 4ft x 4ft area to repair and spray... I charged $420.00
I've done a couple rooms, walls and ceilings inmy home this year (2021) with the Wagner. The Wagner has some definite positives going for it. It can be used by a homeowner without buying a compressor, air lines, and the traditional texture sprayer. It is a lot cheaper. But it does have its limitations. In a traditional compressor run texture sprayer you can vary the air line pressure, the air and mud volume and the nozzle size. In the Wagner you can only vary two of those. Wagner gives you multiple nozzles. The air and mud volume is controlled by how far you pull the trigger. Some professional sprayer rigs have a set screw that limits the trigger, so if you only want a light spray you can pull to the stop and you get a light spray. With the Wagner, your index finger controls the mud/air volume. And as the job goes on that finger will not keep the same setting. Final evaluation, what I did, i was pleased with, but if had payed for the job I would have expected a more consistent spray. Wagner should put some kind of adjustable limit on the trigger.
Absolutely agree. A professional sprayer rig will give way better results over large areas and 10x faster as well. That said, I still like my little Wagner for texture repair patches and small areas for its easy portability and it's slowness in spraying texture helps with blending/matching. I will choose my compressor and texture hopper rig for large jobs such as entire rooms and houses. Thanks for your input.
Yes it comes with several nozzles for different spray patterns. For orange peel texture you want to use an all-purpose compound, mixed down with water. I would suggest or highly recommend using a test board, even if it's just cardboard or anything flat really, and trialling the nozzle sizes and mud consistency, and also spray distance until you are confident to spray the ceiling. Texture repair/matching is quite tricky but I believe anyone can do a satisfactory finish with a little practice.
I wouldn't recommend it, it's a relatively slow sprayer -which is perfect for detail blending large patches like in the video, or perhaps a bathroom ceiling at the largest. You _could_ spray an entire garage, but you'd be at it all day. I'd recommend buying a full size hopper and hosing it to a compressor, or seeing about a texture sprayer rental from HD.
What are you using to match coarse now that Snow-tex is no longer available? The only one I find is CGC Medium-Tex and its obviously way smaller and sticks out like a sore thumb if you try to blend it with existing coarse.
Where are you located? Snow Tex is still available in my area, Canada. If it was ever discontinued here I would probably try to formulate my own by making and mixing the right size of polystyrene aggregate (shredded styrofoam) with plaster, that's basically all snow Tex is. I do a lot of "popcorn" texture matching, and snow Tex is my go-to product
@@Interior_Works Edmonton. I've been told from a CGC rep that they've dropped it. I haven't seen any around here in months. I just checked Home Depot stock in Winnipeg since I saw a sign at the beginning of your video and there are still a few bags out there! If this is true, I would stock up on those bags! Grab me one! Have you tried Certainteed Pro-Roc Coarse-Tex? It's the closest Canadian one I've found but I find it a PITA to mix - the styrofoam tends to separate. Maybe I just had an old batch.
That's very bad news. Never used the certainteed coarse tex, honestly wasn't aware of it. Perhaps it's not popular for a reason.. I will definitely stock up on snow tex. Texture repair is such easy money and my price has doubled since making this Video
@@Interior_Works I just got off the phone with the rep and she said last stock in the channel. Have you ever had problems with the polystyrene seperating with Snow tex? The last couple of times I tried the Certainteed, the styrofoam was floating on top. I left the batch overnight and it never did mix. When it does mix, it tends to gum up my hopper too. One turn too far closed and you gotta pull the nozzle off and try and scoop out the clog.. ugh. Never had it with Snow tex.
Yes. But it's a portable plug in, and is the best that can be with ~1500 watts outlet-max, so as not to blow the circuit breaker. It's good for fix-ups or repairs. A real texture sprayer connects to a separate air compressor, or I've even used huge rigs that are truck-trailer mounted and stay outside.
I just hold it closer to the ceiling, on a ladder. A high PSI rig that will spray from a distance, means a separate compressor and hose, way more cumbersome for a Repair.
300 is actually very cheap to tape the whole room seal it and then texture it. One guy quoted me 1800 just for a small portion. I ended up doing it my self
Today, 2023, I'd charge about 500. Material costs have almost doubled. 1800 is a rip-off. It's a half-day to max full day booking for something like that. I'd book something like that as a morning job, hoping to net 300 after material, then go do another small job in the afternoon, or go home.
i bought one works fine for small wall repairs. Didn't work well for ceilings. The angle was not workable for me. I am keeping it for small wall jobs. Works great for those . Beats hauling a compressor and gun if not needed
I found for ceilings, I have to keep the hopper half full or it will spill when horizontal, also I have to be close to the ceiling, either on a ladder or stilts. It's great for small repairs, if it's more than a 6'x6' area, I'll take a compressor and gun
I find I have to explain that a lot to people while quoting small jobs. Quoted that one just by text message picture. But sometimes the homeowners just see the time I was there, and sometimes don't understand there's shopping, travel, cleaning tools, and even the smallest job will be subject to a minimum half-day rate for the business to be viable.

Doing this for the first time in the next couple of weeks and again, your videos are soooo helpful! Thank you!
Thanks for the video. My brother loaned me one of these and it is helpful to see how best to use it.
that was great. thank your! I have one of those machines. I see now I need to thin my material down more.
Thanks! I was wondering how this device works for ceiling. Exactly what I needed to see.

WELL DONE!
Thank you for this video! What color nozzle did you use? The yellow or white?
I think it is a fair price too, good job.
Can I use this repair small orange peel texture, is the nozzle adjustable?

Good job 👍
Do you ever you the Homax dry mix I am doing on of these tomorrow using the Homax product ? Thanks
I haven't used the Homax brand, but I often use the sheetrock brand dry mix with good results, I would think both would be very similar
@@Interior_Works thanks for the reply , I am doing some popcorn repairs and just didn't want to shoot myself in the foot

Is Popcorn Texture?
I just bought one of those texture sprayers and I’m not thrilled with it. It really struggles doing ceilings due to its lack of pressure.

@@Interior_Works yeah, I get it. I will try filling hopper all the way next time and maybe thinning the mud a bit more.

@@Interior_Works hmm yea i ended up just learning it. because the contractors in my area suck. and I will need to do it to another house in 5 months
I think is far enough but you can charge more

It's reasonable to charge for the time invested, not just the time you were actually spraying.
I find I have to explain that a lot to people while quoting small jobs. Quoted that one just by text message picture. Good
Reasonable price for the overall job. Peace
Could have got more with a contractor license
$300 cash to spray that small area is fair. Nobody is going to pay more than that especially since theyre painting it themselves.
Maybe or maybe not
Should have talked the home owner into scraping the popcorn off in that room and doing a nice knock down texture. Popcorn is way out of date.
I have a minimum charge....$500.00. Not worth it to leave the house for less.
For any size or 2x2 plus? I do them in Texas but they kind of vary in size from drill holes to full sheet sizes. Thanks for advice.
