  • Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. needs debt relief in combination with tariff increases to survive, said the outgoing Chief Executive Officer Andre de Ruyter, who has led the utility for three years as South Africa’s power outages have intensified largely due to unreliable coal-fired power plants. He speaks with Bloomberg's Jennifer Zabasajja on "Bloomberg Markets: Europe."

De Ruyter did an excellent job with what he had to contend ie no help at all from the powers above
He was being a patriotic SAfrican when he raised his hand to steer that ship, wasn’t for the money as the guy took a huge salary cut from working corporate to govt.
It’s a shame some people don’t see how ethical he was and that’s why he was forced out, he is not one of the corrupt ones on a gravy train

@@comfortlee1418 That's pretty straight fwd; if a bank a/c has no money a post-dated cheque will still bounce. This is a problem that has been going on since 1998, why hold him directly accountable. The fact that is worse now just means we've reached a tipping point. The previous CEOs did nothing but do extra coal deals.

70% of ESKOM employees, who earn ridiculous sums of money, compared to other state employed workers, should be fired. It will not make any difference in Eskom's "performance.".. Then the tariffs can stay the same for the next couple of years.

This guy should have resigned with immediate effect, he should have fired a majority of his senior executives at Day One. Private Power won't happen, coz even listed companies don't have the money, who will finance it? Just fix the power stations because we have coal for the next gazillion years and our transition will be in our way and our time. No Power, No Economy. As a South African Electrical Engineer in Energy Efficiency, all I can say is this is a pill of bull. I couldn't even get a job at Eskom, apparently I was over qualified to become an apprentice as a 23 year old who did technology development post education even though I had no prior work experience. These people are sent to destroy Eskom or just stupid.

Eskom does not need a new CEO. And as a matter of fact Eskom and South Africa don't need more money, neither do they need electricity. What they really need right now for things to permanently change is repentance. If you are reading this message just imagine for a moment what you would do after you find yourself walking and feeling uncomfortable because you just happen to have grains of sand in your shoes. You will IMMEDIATELY stop walking and remove those grains of sand from your shoes.
So, to repent means to change your mind and to feel sorry for continuously doing evil. It is a paradox to see that the people who are trying to do good expect their goodness to succeed while at the same time they engage in doing evil. People who want to build and operate power stations but at the same time cheat on their wives or on their husbands, steal money, engage in massive corruption, unscrupulous activities, all kinds of evil and with the most recent one in trying to kill the CEO through poisoning.
All these plethora of evil things enumerated are the grains of sand in Eskom shoes and unless fully and IMMEDIATELY dealt with and removed through an act of true repentance, Eskom and South Africa will NOT walk properly. YOU WILL FALL AND YOU WILL NOT LEAD AGAIN.
