In 2021 at age 61 I raced my "dual sport", 365lb XR650L for the third time in 10 years in another Hare Scramble. Fun but brutal work. Not only did I have the wrong bike I had the wrong (dual sport) tires , had to pick up the bike up 9 times.
Probably should have done a little bit more research but at least you gave it a shot. There's really no such thing as the wrong bike. It's really about Rider technique and skill and experience
@@rider65It was the only 'dirt' bike I had at the times I raced, "bring what you got!". I bought it new from Honda in 08. I've had other real dirt bikes in between (WR450, YZ250 etc.), but the big XR is the lowest priced, most reliable, low maintenance, most capable. "do it all" bike (AFTER swapping the forks to WP 48mm USD from a 02 Husaberg,501) my personal studies show. I can (and do) ride the nastiest single track in the GJ area, actually rode it "UP" "Rose Garden Hill" in Utah many years ago on a long day ride, Baja rough two track at 50mph or do 80mph on the Interstate, with a 225+ mile fuel range (tested) for long day rides, and withOUT high maintenance or parts costs, ... so I keep it around ... for fun. But as Molly Hatchet says "it ain't for everybody" 😁
I m 62, just got back on Dual Sport since the Marine Corps Days @ Pendleton, Damn, I m freaking old and out of Shape, so much for mind over matter.( It helps though) I love it , I feel an Addiction coming on. KLX Punched 3.51 , 2019 in Tenn. Some upgrades, 13 Tooth, lowering, Time to Rock on!
You could take this opportunity to make an entire series about these hair scrambles races, and the detailed process of finding and entering them and all that entails. Then we get to see the whole experience, start to finish. Just an idea. Nice riding! EDIT: Not for nothing, cut up edited videos are fine, but some of us also very much enjoy seeing the full track as well as the full race. 😎
Sick ridin' -- the KLX aren't powerhouses but even then, id say 90% of these bikes outpace their owners and never get ridden to their potential. Great content showing what they are capable of.
Great rippin dude.👍👍 90% rider 10% bike. I think for endurance racing like hare scrambles comfort and being used to a bike is more important than power. Your pretty comfy and used to your KLX and it shows.🔥🔥
My friend and I were on the “XR things”. An 2001 and 2003 Honda XR250R. We ran with the A/B and Pro class. Wasn’t last, bikes did well in the mud. Nice ride on the KLX.
That was pretty good. I don't normally watch other riders cam video but yours was really good and I was impressed how well the KLX ran. You were right on the leaders heals for a long while. Video quality was excellent too. I haven't been on a hare scramble in 30 years. Love to try it again in the old farts class.
I usually don't even click on the GoPro videos. Drives me crazy with the noise and the bouncing around. I'm really picky guy about pretty much everything. This was a pretty perfect video. I like the fact that you can still hear the bike but you're talking over the actual footage. And it's awesome that you were keeping up and passing people on the KLX. People are probably snickering at the starting line. Not snickering when you pass or keeping up👍🏼!! Subscribed and I'll keep watching.
Heck yeah, I just completed the 50yrs plus B class in the AZ Copper Classic and took 8th out of 15 in my division. Such capable machines. I was also the only klx out of 300 racers.
I just went last month to watch my nephew run his Ktm in one of these. My brother and I both have klx’s . We were thinking of doing it also. This has made me confident that it can handle it. Your riding is sick.
Good Stuff. Got a crf300l. Once i got the suspension done it rips. If your is like mine it has plenty of motor for that kind of stuff and as long as you keep it flowing it will haul ass but that weight comes back to you when you have to make big corrections.
That was cool! Very cool! I’d love to race one, like In Vet C, no, maybe F, or P ? 🤣 Regardless it looks like fun, but no way could I ‘race’ 1 lap without cardiac arrest! Trail ride it for 24 hours straight, but race, those days are gone! Excellent video. Pumped about getting my 24 KLX 230, if it ever comes in.....
You were really hauling the mail on what is likely a pretty heavy bike for those conditions but a bikes a bike and it’s all fun! We do a lot of Hare-scrambles and I cannot imagine riding a heavier machine (I am on a KTM 300). Great video and Congratulations on your ride.
Awesome. I was shying away from these bargain bikes, primarily due to their low power, but you show the KLX would be pretty competent for the average punter.
I've thought about doing these for a while now. I never thought my Drz400s was the right bike for it but I'm not sure my KX450 is either lol. You were killing it out there!
This is super impressive. Id love to do riding like this but at a much slower pace. 😂 Its finding trails near me thats so obnoxious. This mountain looks so cool.
You definitely pushed that bike but it handled it. It's the rider for sure. Like 70/30 cuz I'm sure that suspension in the front hitting bottom hard like thatade it tough at times Great riding
I live 20 minutes from brushy. It’s a good bit more difficult than this. We love riding at brown mountain though mostly. Nice vid good riding, I’ve been eyeing a 2024 klx300 but not sure if I can part from my wr250r

Omg!! Respect, sir, or mam! I am almost 50 and am hesitant to do this.

Most definitely entertaining

It's nice to see that an enduro can keep up with motocross bikes for the most part

2nd after a 8mi lap on a KLX is damn impressive!
full send on the KLX. love it haha. my homie and I just raced his TW200 😂😂😂

This video makes me happy 🤣🤣🤣 I also have a klx300
fair play fella and well done little klx - i truly thought you would get 1st place at many points - gonna watch pt 2 now
The time you put in on this bike regularly in the woods shows above the dirt specific, weekend only riders man! good video!
This is so cool you’re killing it on the KLX! What tires are you running nowadays?
Good Stuff. Got a crf300l. Once i got the suspension done it rips. If your is like mine it has plenty of motor for that kind of stuff and as long as you keep it flowing it will haul ass but that weight comes back to you when you have to make big corrections.
I passed a piece of thin plastic between the fork and the seal on my old klx259 and the leak stopped as soon as the dust cleared.
That was cool! Very cool!
I’d love to race one, like In Vet C, no, maybe F, or P ? 🤣

Pumped about getting my 24 KLX 230, if it ever comes in.....
Wow very impressive. You showed that the klx 300 is plenty capable. Dope !!!

I watched one of your older videos when you got this bike and then this one, and I'm glad you learned how to ride that thing like she should be!🤣
Fantastic-- balls and skills on klx
I swear to God I was thinking about your channel today then this pops up. I swear these phones can read our minds. Love your content dude!
dual sport killin it !!! mega rider skill
Super sweet! I really want to do these, but I don't think I could last a full 90 minutes at that pace, much less two hours.
Awesome. I was shying away from these bargain bikes, primarily due to their low power, but you show the KLX would be pretty competent for the average punter.

Impressive. I really wanna see you with dirt tires and the shifter fixed. Not bad for a dual sport!
Awesome! 🤩 looks so much fun 😮
Prime example its more about the rider then the bike!
That looks like a good time, my dude.
the next best thing to you racing on your street legal bike is to have rode it there!!
Really good video !!
I've never ridden off-road, how many times did you smack your fingers on the trees?
I live 20 minutes from brushy. It’s a good bit more difficult than this. We love riding at brown mountain though mostly. Nice vid good riding, I’ve been eyeing a 2024 klx300 but not sure if I can part from my wr250r
Good riding!
Brother you took nice hotlines
Any suspension mods? Stock sprockets?
Nice Job!

It's a song traditionally played at the beginning of many sporting events
