    What's interesting is that the largest bear species isn't actually found in North America as the South American short faced bear was the largest bear of all time. Estimates put them up to 40% larger than their North American counterparts!

      I'm assuming you are talking about Arcotherium angustidens. It may or may not have been bigger than this bear (Arctodus simus). It's really still debated

      @@beastinfection638 It was defintley bigger, the bones of the South American short faced bears are larger than their North American counterparts.
      Also as an added point, I think there seems to be a general trend that when North American mammals migrated to South America they got larger as this is also seen with Smilodon as well as the Short faced bears.

      @@dillon4442 yes largest polar bear but that's not the average size of a polar bear the average size for a polar bear is 8 feet, and the average size of a short faced bear is 12 feet imagine if the short faced bear existed and they discovered "the world's largest short faced bear" it would be like 15 feet it's just like that, and no the world's largest polar bear was 11.1 feet not 12 feet.

    I don’t think this picture does it justice. If you look at a picture of the largest polar bear ever recorded next to man the size difference isn’t obvious. Plus they are standing behind the bear so it makes it look bigger. There is another model of one of these things also featured in Rogan’s videos that looks much much bigger.

      @@10minutefauna I know that’s why I’m so obsessed with the truth. Every specimen of extinct animals including dinosaurs is always put on a pedestal. Literally that is about a foot and a half high and people take pictures behind the specimen, so you just can’t get a grasp of how big it really was. I don’t need exaggerations. I’m sure this thing was an absolute monster to anyone who encountered it, it does not need to be exaggerated. You can tell just by the skeletons that it was huge compared to bears today. I would also like to see some of my favorite dinosaurs fleshed out in museums to really grasped the size, I remember, seeing the most famous giganotosaurus skeleton in the Fernbank Museum in Atlanta 20 years ago, and being very, very underwhelmed.

    This thing is capable of reaching 4000lbs or even under 2 tons, huge bears! Can take down any big cat in the word, even American lion or Ngandong tiger, the closest thing we'll ever see to a short faced bear has got to be the Kodiak bear, these things are literally the biggest and strongest of all bears.

      Kodiak bears aren’t the biggest on average I believe. There was a study saying that polar bears average around 590 kgs for males. However, some say this study doesn’t tell the truth and it’s actually 700kgs for males.

    There was a bear in Alaska that was killing people. A ranger out deer hunting hunting was charged by it and he unloaded 5 7mm rounds (similer to a 308) into it killing it just a few feet from him. It would have been 14 feet tall on 2 legs.

      Grizzly bears can get up from 1000 to 1200 pounds but the short face bear is known to be around 1600 to a ton

      I generalized since it is only a short. I didn't think a short would be a good way to distinguish the differences. Maybe I will make a full length video that is more in depth.

      @@Terrarian789 yes, you are correct. There is always some room for margins of error. For Arctodus, some reports say 1.5 meters at the shoulder, other 1.8 meters. For arctotherium, I have seen 2 as well as 2.2 meters. This was a very long way of me saying yes you are right. 😂😂 Hope this helps!

    Btw İTS skeleton does not look LİKE 1.8 meters or 2 meters İTS ekeleton LİKE 1.4 meters is İTS four legged height is 1.8 meters
