I think the dog food failed because you threw the food. When you poke holes in the can, the fish are attracted to the scent, but since the food remains in the can, there's nothing they can find to eat other than your bait. But when you took it out and threw it, you gave them so much to find and eat that they had no real need to seek and and eat your bait.

I've fished 50+ years approx 30 years ago my buddy and I performed the Wd-40 test while fishing striped bass near Stockton CA AND... RESULTS were absolutely NO DIFFERENCE in the bite! We sprayed baits consisting of Shad minnows, sardine, anchovies, mud suckers, pileworms crawdads and even clams for catfish! The bite was the same on both so.... Don't pollute with petroleum, it's NO advantage
HOWEVER, LIGHTLY SPRAYING YOUR LINE SPOOL SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVES CASTING preformance Making smoother longer casts while not causing abrasion to your mono! 20 lb mono casts like 10 lb test when sprayed w/Wd-40
it also seems to preserve the monofilament! No JOKE!

Fish cannot smell anything that isn't water-soluble (they can't smell anything unless it mixes with water). WD-40 literally stands for "Water Displacement-40" - it doesn't mix with water. If shouldn't affect fishing because the fish cannot sense it. So "no difference" makes perfect sense.

We used WD-40 in Oregon in the mid to late '80s on nightcrawlers for rainbow trout and overall, it worked. It didn't work too well with trolling, but stationary bait fishing was pretty good. My dad trained me to be quiet while fishing, so even to this day, I don't whoop when I get a big fish, or a species first.. unsure if it makes a difference. One of my uncles swore by hole-punched cat food as chum, I can't remember if that worked (it was an overnight on the lake, so I probably slept most of the night). Great video and CONGRATS!!

You have to slice the Bananas & put them in , a dehydrator. They are a good bait for Carp. Plus if you go scuba diving in the ocean, squeeze them to attract hundreds of reef fish. Maggots & wasps grubs are even better than worms, trout go crazy for them 😊

When I was a kid we used WD 40 on my grandfathers boat in the ocean. When it hit the water it looked like when gas hits water so definitely petroleum based.
I later read that it really only eliminates your scent from the bait from cologne or something not good smelling the the fish.
Honestly I don’t think it mattered in the ocean and populates the water.

Maize is what we use to catch carp in South Africa. We boil it till it is soft and then we mince it. We use that on a spring and whole kernel [ canned ] pips on the hooks. And yes maize is bad for fish if it is not boiled first.

About 30 years ago, I once caught a huge bass on a hot dog. I was at the baseball fields where I used to play little league and there was a huge creek behind the fields. I dunno how or why but it ended up in shallower parts of the water. So I threw a hot dog on the hook from the concession stands lol and within in a couple casts he took off with it.

Try garlic oil for a scent carrier. It's harmless to the fish and they don't know what garlic is for better or worse, but it will blend with the bait and carry the bait's scent, while not washing off. (in the aquarium trade, you can dose garlic in your frozen food to work as an anti-parasitic - so yes, it's 100% safe)

A friend of mine and myself have caught many delicious Green Channel Catfish in the Upper Chesapeake Bay - Aberdeen Proving Grounds and other areas by chumming with dry cat or dry dog food. I'm not gonna tell you where, but I have a few places to get a LOT of it for REAL cheap (practically free). It works great! We usually catch other fish, too, however for them we have to use traditional methods - basically whatever is working at any particular time of the year.
Also, try chumming and fishing with corn and/or corn-flavored Power Bait for stocked - Rainbows, and panfish, as well as Sheephead, Trigger or other Barnacle-eating fish around SW structure like bridge-pilings, dock-pilings, etc. Port-Wine Cheese is another killer for early season stocked trout!
Good luck if you're gonna try these methods!

@@TheFishinMagician20 Worm is the most consistent bait over all for a more broad species! When all else fails on targeted fishing put on a worm if you want some kind of action. And working with those type of aerators, from the size appearance, it should circulate or aerate a pond a little over 5 acres. Not river flow but it does move water. Keep the going with the highly relatable videos! You could try a somewhat chum fishing challenge with that dog food using bait keepers. If you ever wanted to revisit the chumming from a different angle. The mesh lets it seep out, but this technique is best with a treble hook but it can be done with circle hooks. Hook up suffers some! Again a like from me!

I want to see you fish for giant catfish using unscented bloody tampons.
We used to do this when we were teens. We'd put some chicken livers in a blender till the chicken lives were liquified then soak the unscented tampons in the liver soup.
We'd then freeze the bait so that when we got to our fishing spot out bloody tampons were semi-frozen.
It worked like gang buster for us.
Why didn't we just use chicken livers alone? It was because our big sisters used to buy the cheap unscented tampons in bulk, and because as kids we couldn't afford to buy baits ourselves.
If our bloody tampon baits needed a refreshing, we'd simply dip them back into our liquified chicken liver. I wish I had some pictures of the fish we caught as kids but, we were also too poor to buy a camera, let alone camera film.

Had an uncle Bob used to take me fishing back in the 70’s. ( what do you wanna be when you grow up kid? I wanna be a professional fisherman….. ain’t no such thing ! ) He swore by WD40. The man would get so drunk he’d have to turn the wheel over to a 14 year old 😂 to drive us back to town. It never worked & his whole tackle box reeked if it !
    Loved the vid kid !
Oh & a shout out to my 94 year old uncle Bob !!

The myth, as you've described it, is totally false. The true story is based on common sense and bad luck. In the old days, food was real bad on ships. So they were fishing along the way to improve the menu. Bananas rot quite fast, so a boat transporting bananas had to go as fast as possible and wouldn't slow down to allow people to fish. This is why being on a boat transporting bananas was bad luck.
So NO bananas onboard, BUT you must have a sandwich. Why? Because the fish always bite when you're eating your....sandwich!

@@TheFishinMagician20 LOL and btw, it was an interesting video. Too many takes this way too seriously! Oh... while at it...With the corn... the myth (maybe one of yhe mythsssss), is to open a can and pour it at one spot for a few days. This, to make it an habit for the fish to come there. I've never tried it, so can`t tell if it works or not and I think it`s even illegal at some places.

I think there was so much dog food in the water the fish were just eating that.. and that's the reason they didn't eat his lure
Just punching a hole in the can would release the smell and draw them in, but not fill the area with food

Talking has zero effect on suburban pond fish, which are surrounded by ambient noise constantly. Try speaking in a normal tone around a quiet mountain stream, and watch all the fish dart under cover and hide for 30 minutes.

@@TheFishinMagician20 as I finished the video, I see you addressed this. Great job closing loopholes! Whereabouts you fishing in Chandler? My dad was a professor at ASU for 25+ years, and I grew up in Tempe, awatukee, Mesa, and Chandler. I learned to fish at Kiwanis Park, and it still has my PB rainbow trout, a 22 inch pregnant sow with a softball sized belly. back in those days, Chandler was mostly farms.
Also, one case in which smaller baits catch bigger fish....gold medal trout waters....smart fish, lots of pressure, size 22 midges and a perfect presentation are about the only way to hook one.
