Happy late anniversary to me becoming a Vocaloid cover person/youtaite/what have you! 🎉
So in case you didn’t know, this is my favorite Vocaloid song of all time. I just… love everything about it. Of course Sidu’s PV is breathtaking and I wanna cry tears over these two, but in my opinion the song itself tells a beautiful story without even having to watch the music video. This is Neru’s best song in my opinion and I doubt it’ll ever be dethroned as my favorite ever.
So I kinda have spent the last few years being angry at myself for covering this song right when I started out because it’s like NO I was such a newbie back then… But at least it gave me the excuse to redo it once enough time had passed and pour all my love for this song into it.
Yeah I... Went apeshit with this to be honest. I just let my fingers write the lyrics for me in the best sense of musicality... I knew I had to do adlibs galore... I wanted to add something special but I didn't want to intrude too much on the song. But I did feel I could think of a simplistic lyric addition in the instrumental break that kinda helped it transition through the sudden change in perspective at the end of the song. Hopefully it blends in alright LOL
The boys in the PV have names by the way- Kawasemi (orange haired pilot) and Kuina (black haired cop). These names have meaning, given that they’re the Japanese names of the kingfisher and water rail birds.
What is a sad bit of trivia about their names, is that in real life the Kuina- the water rail- cannot fly.

This is gonna be like. Such a SAPPY comment but I was thinking about this song. Datsugoku is like,,, one of my favorite Vocaloid songs of all time. And your original cover of it, I found it I was a freshman in high school I guess right after it came out. And, no joke, it made me fall in love with the song. Every time I had a hard time I fell back to your cover and it was like, a very good catharsis. I hadn’t listened in a while (sophomore in college now) and I was showing a friend some like, absolutely required listening Vocaloid songs for someone just getting into it. And I thought about Datsugoku and I was like “oh I’ll listen for old time’s sake.” So when I saw you re-covered it it was like freshman me, finding it for the first time again. It’s kind of funny to get so emotional over a cover of a cover of a song from 5 years ago. But here I am, at 4 am writing a paper while listening to it on loop and maybe crying a little. Genuinely, thank you so much for this cover, it’s absolutely amazing.

Something I noticed at the end is that all the cages are broken and empty instead of how they were at the start. I believe that this implies that even tho the boy died the crash allowed others to escape the line "if I die without a trace that's fine with me I guess" implies the same as it means that he doesn't care because in the end he got to see what the world looked like even for a few seconds and he helped other people escape
