Gamer_Seal from the flashbacks, Urbosa feels kind of like an older sister to both Link and Zelda, kindly watching over them. She was a great character as well...
No one cares what Urbosa is she still giant woman big sister to almost everyone (except revali cause fuck that pretentious prick) *HUGS LINK* This boy deserves love he’s been alone for so long
Everyone always makes jokes and memes about BotW Link just screwing around rather than doing the main quest. But I haven't seen anyone stop and consider the fact Link has these fleeting memories and whispers following him everywhere he goes. He doesn't know who he is, or who these people in his head are. Link is thrown into this quest alone and confused. He knows he cares, but not the reason for it. He knows this world, but without context. He barely begins to remember his friends before realizing they're all dead. The entirety of Hyrule must be a lonesome land of déjà vu for Link! So, he distracts himself with simple tasks to keep his memory from wandering to places distorted by time. The amount of hidden angst below the surface of the game is astonishing, and I am loving it.
Yeah everyone talks about how all his friends are dead but they never talk about how Link said, (according to Zelda's diary) that he didn't want to be the hero, imagine going through all this pain and loneliness for a life you didn't want in the first place
Honestly, put yourself in his shoes. What if you were chosen to protect the fate of the world from an ancient evil, only to fail, almost die and be sealed away while the one you loved kept the evil at bay for a hundred years. Everyone you’ve ever known will have been long dead, all your friends, family… Truly, his pain is unimaginable…
I imagine that BOTW Link cries a lot. He's failed his duties as the Hero to protect Hyrule, and now everything's in ruins, and there's nothing he can do about it.
@@oneswimmingboy what's even sadder is he talked all the Guardians (except maybe Rivali) they were his closest friends and wheh ge wakes up they have all been dead a century and Zelda is trapped fighting Gannon
I find it incredibly tragic how Link starts off pretty happy and expressive but the more he regains his memories the more he becomes that stoic knight from before the calamity and even at the end where he smiles it’s so much more subdued
The smile now hides a lot of pain. It kind of mirrors the UK boxart and the US boxart for botw. UK's is bright and colorful, and link looks at the camera, expressing a bit of a smile (if he's not, my bad). Its pretty clear its about the adventure and exploration. But the US box art is much more solemn; the colors are subdued and the lands but most of all link, is heavily shadowed. Link does not face the camera, he stares off at the castle with his sword and shield out. One portrays how link saw the world before he got his memories back...and the other one is how he saw it after.
Late comment, but because the game is pretty open about quests and all that, I would say Link just has his moments like that, but is actually far more expressive when it's not a serious moment. Like, his "diary" (that the English localization butchered into the generic 2nd-person Adventure Log addressing the player and erasing all of Link's own thoughts) makes it very clear he likes to make people smile and happy (especially children), that he *loves* seal surfing, how he's an absolute foodie... and thinks Zelda's voice is beautiful lol. But he also has moments of insecurity, unsure if he's worthy of the Wild outfit set, if he has the strength to save Zelda and Hyrule. I believe the DLC content is where he finally writes that Zelda must be proud of him now, that he truly feels like THE hero.
It comes from not being able to talk to them about the things that matter most to you. If you don't have someone you can pour your heart out to, then it doesn't matter how many friends you have...
Twist: The real reason Link lost his memories is because waking up with all his memories and realizing everything he loved and knew was gone would be too much, so the shrine was designed to take away those memories so that they could be regained slowly at a manageable pace, after the resurrected person had already started their "new life."
shrine of resurrection: erases links memories so he can restart at a reasonable pace impa + memories and such: *im about to end this mans whole career*
An when he want his friends bacc he protecc and attacc harder than ever, especially towards the whole calamity because that who he meant to attacc and protecc everyone from but failed and "died"
@@zandernorton5761 and was revived a century later with no previous memorys and was sent by Impa to collect them and yet there's not even an hour's worth of them
@@bursky09 Wild lost all his friends except Zelda (sure he made awesome new ones, but still), probably his family (considering he had one, what we don't know though), all of Hyrule and 100 years of his "life". Time on the other hand got even send back to make up for the 7 year lost. Sure he lost Navi, but we know for a fact that he at least had a wife and then died sometime in the woods. But that's all, we can assume he had a pretty neat life until he died of who knows what. Wild, who knows what he'll do in the future, but going by those facts and considering that Wild had to do his journey alone and Time had Navi, as well as Tatl, I'd say Wild had it worse.
@@JohnnyYeTaecanUktena Well not quite. Getting lost is one part of it. However the actual curse is something else. If an adult were to die inside the Lost Woods, they'll turn into a Stalfoss. If a child dies in them, they become a Skull Kid. So the question of how Time died still remains the same and the answer unknown, but we at least know he died as an adult and not a virgin as well.
I feel like this line kinda explains why he has so much more personality during the events of the gameplay. Almost nobody remembers him, so although the stakes are just as high, not nearly as many "eyes" are watching him, judging every action he makes.
@@jasp3r_n1ghtth0rn4 not really, this is specifically for BOTW link. In the previous games, the excuse was that link just never had a voice so the player could project himself/herself to the character. now they gave him an actual reason.
If it wasn't for his story having a somewhat happy ending (at least until the sequel) I'd be inclined to say he has it even worse than the hero of time. Then again Aonuma said the sequel to BOTW will be even darker than Majora's Mask so that definitely doesn't bode well for the guy.
@@Pikrioling I know it was in an interview but that's not what I recall him talking about, nor would it make sense for him to say. "That trailer that you saw, that was as dark as Majora's Mask" would be a weird thing to clarify.
I imagine he has the entire days worth of the clips of memories we just see what's important, and he most likely got his entire lifes worth of memories back after getting all of the in game memories
I played Breath of the Wild with my younger siblings watching me, and they always had something to say or point out and even helped me find mushrooms to make food when I was stuck on the Plateau. Their interactions and quips added so much to the game that I never realized until I tried playing it by myself, and I realized how truly lonely it is.
Yeah I get that feeling I usually play games alone sometimes online wich can be interesting sometimes Utho at times I'll be randomly playing games like botw acc pokemon with all the virtual pets and I'd just get this huge feeling of Emptyniss there's still things going on in the game Shure but in the world I'm alone in that moment fed up bored lonely un able to get immersed I'm the game I'd just walk around do minor things before shutting the game off for later back to square 1 what to do with myself? Note I'm one of the only gamers in my frend group and my sister is 6 years apart I'm introverted so I enjoy my own company but not forever
This explains BoTW Link extremely well and it makes me depressed when I really think about it. Poor guy. Wakes up after 100 years with no memories only to find out that all those close to him are pretty much dead and he must carry on alone. Despite all this the art is actually really nice in this video

What's so upsetting is that Link wakes up and finds that his 'first' friend is just a spirit in a temporary form, an he is immediately told to go visit an elder that (probably) doesn't have much time left. After speaking with her, he is immediately forced to free robots taken control, expecting to meet the champions only to find out they're dead. His only friend is Zelda, who didn't even like Link much from the start. The pressure must be very emotional for Link, especially when he hears their voices after they use their power or recharge. If anything, I'd love to talk to Link and become his therapist-
My link definitely needs some therapy poor guy has fallen of cliffs, froze in a lake, burned to death, got crushed by a treasure chest, got destroyed by five guardians because his horse kicked him in the face, his shield broke when he was shield surfing, drowned after falling of a cliff because no stamina, sniped by a lynal he ran away from, and he worst of all got killed by a chuchu jelly which was embarrassing to say the least
I do! And I don’t “goof off” I’m busy helping hyrule also I’m getting skills and other things back then once I’m ready I go to fight ganon so I’m not “goofing off”
I read somewhere that the journal entries in Japanese are all written in the first person, so it's literally Link keeping a journal, though I haven't personally checked (I'm not that good at japanese)
@@averynunez6569 Reincarnation is not exclusives to Link, Zelda and Ganon. We see other characters reincarnate too like Impa, Beedle, Tingle, Malon and Talon. What Demise did is create a curse to follow his reincarnations he did not created it.
@@SirHamnet Kiddo, I'm not gonna lie. Link woke up with no memories of himself and was suddenly thrust into a quest to save Hyrule. And then he remembers that all hes best friends are dead and Zelda is in mortal peril. And us, as the player, just went on as if it were nothing but a game. Thanks for reminding me of the feels I felt while playing Undetale and making me question my morals. (;^;)
The fact that in BOTW, Link doesn't talk in order to cope with the stress of his job as Royal Knight, that is insanely depressing. I once saw an article about this, which almost glorified Link's behaviour, praising it as a great example of mental health, when... it isn't. Link actively not speaking, not communicating his own stress and anxiety to the point that he almost comes across as a silent robot, is not great mental health, it's an extreme and unhealthy way of bottling up stress and emotion. Even though it probably won't ever happen, I hope that in BOTW 2, Link's bottling up of emotions is addressed somewhat
It was brought up in Zelda's diary. If to no one else, she does get him to talk and to open up a bit, and hopes one day he'll get to express himself freely and openly again (to her credit, she never saw him any other way than unreadable and silent. She never saw the kid he used to be before all the pressure was placed on him).
To be fair, it seems like post-Resurrection Link talks a lot more(and has a lot more of a personality) than he does before the events of the gameplay. I've seen people bring up 2 reasons for this, and I kinda agree with both. Firstly, since at the start of the game he doesn't remember just how important his task is, and how much pressure it put on him, he isn't nearly as silent and serious as he was 100 years prior. Secondly, 100 years ago, everyone knew who he was, and everyone expected him and Zelda to save them all. In contrast to later on, even after he regains all his memories, very few people still know him as the hero. Thus, he no longer has to go around worrying about what people expect of him.
Be does speak he isn't just bottling up his emotions read my take in this he is far more complex. I have really long comment some one this video I just posted.
@@ShadowSkyX In a way, this is brought up the opposing way, in the DLC, in Mipha's diary. She compared the little kid she met with the adult she became, and while she is happy to see deep down, he still is the same, I think she was sadden to see the child he used to be closing himself like that. Maybe one of the reason why she glared at Revali, when he talked shit about Link in fron of her. She knows link the best out of all the champion. Revali stops to Link surface behavior and spit out his jealousy (like most rival characters with big ego do). Because Revali only knows Link as the guy chosen to be Zelda bodyguard and the chosen one. Daruk and Urbosa are interested into knowing him as a person, and see the work he quite obviously put. I would not be surprised they had training together (like depicted in Age of Calamity). Link was maybe gifted (like Revali seems to think) but he also worked with everything he had.
Yep! I was expecting the Champions to be in some sort of stasis (like, sealed within the Blights and actually fine), not fucking dead. Especially Urbosa was a gut punch for just... how STRONG she seemed... y'know?
When I hear the line: "Depending on somebody else to lead you on your way" I personally feel like that somebody is the player. Has anyone the same feeling?
Honestly, would like to see that. Main reason, it might lead to him getting better, and opening up. He also might start to talk. But, as its link, he would probably just move on, instead of haven’t a panic attack.
The closest we have is after the “Dragon” Memory (avoiding spoilers for people). According to someone I know, if you watch his breathing and darting eyes, he is going through an internal “mental breakdown”. But then the dragon arrives and cuts this off.
ITS SO HARD TO FIND OR MAKE A PERFECT COVER FOR A JAPANESE SONG BC SO MUCH IS SAID AND THE LANGUAGE DIFFERENCES GET IN THE WAY OF THE LYRICS AND THEN THIS EXISTS AND IT'S JUST INCREDIBLE JEVSHKSGSKSGDKSGDKDDDJDK
If he doesn't have a companion in the sequel I'll feel so bad. The poor guy wakes up after 100 years to all his friends being dead except Zelda who he has to save all on his own. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and keeps it all to himself, a silent hero.
El Mew i mean, we the player are doing that, if it was actually just link he would probably free the divine beasts after getting the paraglider then get the master sword to face Ganon (Idk how to get the master sword so maybe I’m wrong)
hi guys, thank you so much for the continued love on this video, and I'm so excited to finally announce that - y'all asked for it! - this song is coming to Spotify and other streaming services SOON!! Please see my recent community posts for more info, but the gist is that I'm targeting a release date of MAY 6TH so if all goes smoothly we'll be streaming in just a couple of weeks!❤ hope you'll look forward to it!
You know the entire franchise is like life, when you were young you were happy to save the land and its people but never put much thought to link or his happyness ,but when you growup you and learn how dark the entire franchise is and that link was actually suffering without saying a single word it just makes me cry
The only recorded evidence of link speaking is in the personal diary of Zelda and it’s just so sad all also there only like 7 scenes of link smiling in a timeline of over 10000 years it’s depressing
"nomatter just how much I cry " " No-one will be there by my side " Not a single monk cares about his safety Zoras make him fight a lynel Goron have him climb an active volcano No wonder he crys on his own
Here’s a bunch of random details: 0:14 There are four empty slots, representing the divine beasts and how they are not yet reclaimed 0:52 Link is traveling while smiling, in direct contrast to the final few moments of the song 1:19 this isn’t really an important detail, but you can see that Sidon is out of frame (because he’s so tall) and that the people surrounding him are from the time of the game, not the hundred years before, like the others (the champions and Zelda) later on 1:36 The moon is larger than it is normally, just how it is in-game during a blood moon 2:16 As Link’s head turns, his eyes become barely visible, again, not an important detail, but an interesting one 2:28 As the Champions begin to fade, the Memories in the background become more noticeable and prominent 2:46 yet again a small detail, this time the sheikah slate pulsing 3:13 those surrounding him are all those he remembers now, including those from the time of the game and the champions, and Zelda, her face hidden 3:43 The divine beasts are now aiming at Hyrule Castle, all is ready for the final battle Around 3:47 There’s a flash of the symbols of the divine beasts and the full triforce, now grander than it ever was 4:00 Link is now much grimmer and serious about his duty, he is no longer smiling, why would he be? He has just realized that all his friends except one are dead or dying, his memory is so far gone he doesn’t even have a full day of his regular life to recall. And he is about to duel his greatest fears taken form. He has little understanding of who he is and why he must face this calamity... He just wants a friend.
But at the end, he smiles again. He has Zelda back, even if the others are gone. He has a friend. Even if his old life is missing, he has someone to help fill in the gaps. He's not alone, anymore. So when all is said and done, he smiles.
I would like to make a joke about the last time stamp is him going into complete genocide mode but I can’t or it would hurt me too much I feel like I am about to cry.
I’ve never really thought about just how isolated Link must have felt in Breath if the Wild. It really makes me appreciate how many people he has in Tears of the Kingdom to watch his back. Amazing animation (and song!)
This game saved me from committing suicide, I was in a depressed state when I first got it, when I bearly started the game and heard the opening music I realized how beautiful it was...I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t of that game, when I played it I realized that the game is a mix of realism and fantasy but the common sense is realistic, I’m still recovering from depression but this helped me a lot....online friends also helped me bc my irl “friends” were the ones bullying me and I felt lost everywhere....when Nintendo said that the player can relate to link, they nailed it.
I'm so glad you didn't commit suicide! Remember that God loves you, and he has a plan for you. Things will get better in the end, I promise you. In the meantime, pray for Jesus to give you the strength to make it through those hard times. He will provide.
Good job champ, you can do this suicide won't solve anything it'll just hurt the people around you start by doing what you love to do maybe replay botw again

Imagine being the deku tree seeing countless incarnations of link come before him, knowing this child has been called upon once again to risk his life over and over. Wild link possibly being the saddest because he knows he used to have a family and friends but can’t remember any of it, which is arguably crueler than remembering nothing from his past lives. Imagine being the deku tree and when link stands in front of him he can’t tell the difference between the current one and the ones that stood before him before.
I like how he starts out kinda cheerful - he doesn't remember anything but he's getting to have conversations with a jolly old fellow, he's getting cool things to mess with, and he isn't really encountering anything dangerous. Even when the dude turns out to be a ghost, one of the things he does is point you to an entire town of people to learn about stuff from. When he first encounters the statue of Mipha, though, he immediately loses the high as the weight of what's happening settles on his shoulders. He gradually becomes more withdrawn and solemn until the segment at 2:55 where he's emotionally empty barely even able to go through the motions. Finally, something spurs him to motion and he begins to properly grieve all that he lost as he's filled with a grim determination to finish the job and makes his way inexorably towards Calamity.
This is surely why Mipha was picked. Outside of being one of the only two with a monument (with Daruk, but his wouldn't be held in the pic). Zora's domain is the closest destination (so would normally be the first place to go, if you were logical about it) She was his childhood friend, a really dear one at this. A beloved princess of the Zora, hence their resentment. All of the other, none of them realise Link is the actual hero from 100 years ago (except Riju). The goron and ritos do find similarities but do not realise this is because this is Link, not just some descendant of his. Riju puts two and two together, maybe because she is the one meant to help us. (because of such, no one in the other cities has a reason to resent Link. But, the Zoras live for a long time, and clearly knows this is Link. Hence why most blame him among the eldest. The youngest are more forgiving, even though, their childhood surely was ruined partly by the Calamity)
The music inside Mipha's divine beast best symbolizes the true tone of the game, whether it's the first beast you free or the last. It's the only song that gets progressively darker and more ominous the more terminals you activate. Are you in denial that she'll be dead or afraid to admit the truth? Quietly enraged? Do you believe destroying the blight will bring her back? Or does knowing you failed her put you in a mental downward spiral, aka depression? The track instills anxiety and fear of what he knows, wants to know, doesn't know, and doesn't want to know.
3:25 - 3:31 "No one will answer to my useless cries that echo in this room" My heart broke into frigging pieces at that scene, and it shattered into a million splinters with the lyrics. Its the perfect scene to emphasis how botw link lost all of the people he cared about in one fell swoop, and all the ways it might affect him. Whoever drew that, kudos. And the way the words are emphasised, as if the singer really is crying out, and the mournful instrumentals - kudos. Just, it played a large part in that heartbreak and that is a seriously good job done
Lyrics: No matter how you live your life, you're breathing every day Depending on somebody else to lead you on your way But even if they disappear, you're breathing all the same 'Cause all you do is drag along whomever keeps you safe The people who I cherished and the people I forgot Relationships that came and went without another thought Although I felt an inkling this is not how things should be I guess I didn't really know a single thing Whatever anyone may say I know I've always been this way As I avert my gaze away from bonds I've severed to this day Even I cry when I'm alone Even if nobody will know 'Cause deathly loneliness strikes on its own For all the people's feelings that I threw off to the side Although I know I needed them to keep myself in line The punishment for running from my duty all those times Has tightened all around my chest and now begins to bite Before I know it, something in my heart begins to change I wish I had somebody else to share my everyday My body feels so numb as I succumb to prickling pain I realise now that solitude is not a strength Whatever words I said out loud I know there's no returning now And yet again I tell myself "it's fine because it can't be helped" No matter just how much I cry No one will be there by my side The cracks within my heart run deep with time (( instrumental )) So that it wouldn't break So that I wouldn't break Although my hands were shaking I still tried to keep it safe Oh what a simple feeling and I fail still to comprehend I held too tight and it broke to pieces in the end Hugging my knees, I cry in vain Knowing that not a thing will change No one will answer to my useless cries that echo in this room Even the silence of the night Even the veil of the moonlight Won't erase, won't erase what I try to escape and that's the truth There's no way I can say all the words hid away So deathly loneliness has followed me to this day (( instrumental )) (( End ))
This song hits so hard when you read Zeldas diary in the castle, learning why he doesn't speak: "With so much at stake, and so many eyes upon me, I felt it necessary to stay strong, and silently bear any burden." It ties in so tightly to this video and Link as a whole. A courageous warrior who is completely alone, he stuck to his word told to Zelda that day, and that drives his grim determination as he slowly recollects the memories. He isn't afraid to die, he isn't afraid to fail. We see in the memories time and time again him throwing himself in the face of danger to protect those he loves. I love this Link, and I feel so sorry for him, the kid has gone through so much and yet through sheer will, lives on to fight another day.
Every once in a while, You Tube obliges and randomly decides to do it's fuckin' job when people need it for emotional support or just for them to have something to relate to. RUclips recommended to me songs that made me feel good or maybe cry when I was having a bad time. And the tears felt good. Emotions feel good.
When I first watched the original PV, I cried so hard because I felt so utterly heartbroken for Link, and now listening to your cover, the same tears are brought back. I love this so so much and will definitely be listening to it on repeat for god knows how long
Link shouldn't feel sad if he thinks hes alone. In fact we are always there even in the heartbreaking moments with him. So Link If You Read This Remamber We Are Always Here For You. . . 💖
...If we did get an anime, would it be a good anime? If it's a good anime going into Link's inner struggles, I might watch it. Then again the last time there was an animated series for Legend of Zelda...well, I've never seen it myself so I can't judge, but everyone kind of seems to hate it - that can't be a good sign as a Zelda fan, if it's anything similar to The Last Airbender movie...

I wish I could show this song to a non-BotW player and they could understand how sad it was. Link is a 17 year old kid that woke up with no memory of who he was or who anybody else is, and immediately has to complete a bunch of hard quests to save a princess he doesn’t fully remember. On the Great Plateau, he gets told after only a bit that all his friends are dead. He is subjected to “Deathly Loneliness” as a kid (only 17) and has no one to comfort him or help him all the time throughout his journey. As he says, there’s no way he can say everything he wanted to say to the people he wanted to say them too, because there’s no time. Everyone just expects him to stay silent and do his job, but that’s impossible for even the most courageous person to do. AND HE’S STILL A KID. Edit: This song makes me want to be transported inside of BotW, mosey on over to Calamity Ganon, and pull out a gun and shoot the everliving crap out of him until he can’t breathe or move.
I know what you mean! I don't want to face Calamity Ganon on my own, but I would definitely stay with Link throughout his journey. That way, he wouldn't be so lonely.
Man when I played BotW I just felt bad the entire game knowing how pretty much all his close friends had died alone and was powerless to save them (especially mipha who cared deeply for link and wanted to be with him), and now he really didn't have anyone close left. This song brought back all those feelings. 💔
I've always imagined Link holding the Master Sword in cracks in his persona because it's one of the only full relics of his past life It's also sad that if this Link doesn't remember his past, all he knows is the fight and small remnants of his past
Everytime I play breath of the wild I feel like that silence, that loneliness that he goes through is insane. The fact that he tries to become this hero that everyone thinks he is makes it that much harder, forgetting all your memories only to remember only minutes of your past life would be worse in my opinion then remembering at all. Him trying to pick up the master sword in my opinion is when though he is broken in so many way's he tries to bring himself together, only to fail and realize though while worthy to wield the sword it cracks steals his health before disappearing in blue light leaving him with nothing at all to fight back with
Personally… I feel that out of all the iterations of Link, Wild is up there with enduring the worst torment through the course of his game. Time: Time travel, forcing a child to grow up then shunting him back to the past to let him grow up. Twilight: Honestly… the entire kingdom was attacked by creatures of twilight, he was turned into a wolf and taken captive for a brief moment and used by Midna Windwaker: A flooded hyrule… can’t really think of much worse. Wild: Failed in preventing the end of hyrule, almost dies, forced into stasis to be healed… Lost his friends, family, everyone he’s ever known. The only person he truly knows locked herself in the castle to prevent the evil from spreading… Wild has it rough…
Winds' world was normal to him, the only reason he stepped up for action was because his sister was taken because she could have been Zelda. Out of all the Links, Winds has the most lighthearted story. Wild definatly has the most soul-crushing one though
@@TheDracolordian Technically speaking, majora’s mask beat ocarina of time, so he succeeded in that, but when he was sent back in time to relive his childhood, skull kid interfered. Or you know, there’s that theory that Majora’s mask happens because link dies. Thats a theory though
The act of being so anti-social that you drive away what relationships you DO have can really mess you up in the long run. It's something you don't really understand you're doing until you've ghosted people. By then they aren't so keen on just turning around and welcoming you back as the same friend. DEPRESSION IS REAL.
Sadly I've ghosted many people for months on end, it's not because I want to, I feel guilty for it. I just feel incredibly anxious and I dont know what to say
@@VisorByte Maybe all of us that ghost those should just form friendships. We would be able to understand each other and just say "haven't talked to them in a while. I understand, they must be going through something."
I mean we know that link can write on his diary and somehow people understand exactly what he says without him saying anything and then I heard that link has a voice but doesn't use it for some reason
I've noticed that he sometimes uses hand motions when he's explaining something, so maybe that could also be how people can understand him? Even if he doesn't actually have a voice, people understand him through sign language?
Oot link also held too tightly to the relationships he made in his journey, only to lose pretty much all of them, either by his own hand -pulling the master sword and enabling ganondorf to take over hyrule - or ganondorf's, more directly. Hyrule at large was saved but nearly everyone he come to care about died or he was too young to understand how to help.
I love this video. It absolutely embodies the tragic side of BotW Link’s character. The guy lost everything: his memories, his friends, his family, and so much more.
This hits so much harder after Age of Calamity Playing Breath Of the Wild feels so... I don’t know, bare? Lonely? In AoC you always have allies by your side, but botw is so barren. It feels grim playing botw now
but i prefer botw thats why i bought aoc, their death was NOT in vain. a time travelling robot guardian can NEVER erase that fact, no matter how much it changes. timeline wise.
@@haruhisuzumiya6650 Don’t get me wrong here, Breath Of the Wild is 100% still my favourite game, not just out of the two of them, but my favourite game in general. If anything, AoC simply made me look at botw differently. Like it’s the bad outcome instead of the optimal one. And I’m really into it, it feels like playing botw for the first time again- just more...sad
3:25-3:30 Those lyrics and visuals make me want to go straight to the goddess statue at the temple of time and demand to Hylia that she resurrect Links friends. Link deserves it.

Finally someone translated it to english!! Thank you so much! I know there are captions but still. I realised how hard the life must be for Wild Link. He lost all his friends except Zelda 100 years ago. Yeah, he can't remember anything at first but just imagine that you remember everything after they all died. He lost the one who loved him, Mipha. She wanted to marry him but she died. He lost his best friend Daruk. I can imagine they had it very fun together even though Link doesn't talk that much. But I actually think Link spoke the most with Daruk. He lost his "big sister" Urbosa. I don't know really much about their relationship but she's to everyone like a big sister (in my opinion it looks like this). And he lost Revali. Revali didn't like him but it's still sad that he died. And the king told him he almost died and Zelda rescued his life. She fought Ganon 100 years long and everything because he failed at the first time. Must be really hard to fail as a hero and to realise that Hyrule, that he had to protect, is destroyed. Poor Link I really want to give him a hug😢❤
Honestly, I think Link admired Revali's talent just as much as Revali was envious of Link's position. also, it may be a personal belief of mine that Revali is who taught Link to use the bow so well.
I keep on going into BotW and going for Vah Ruta first and repeatedly destroying Waterblight Ganon with save files before I went in to face him because I hate that he killed Mipha. Is this normal? PLZ TELL ME ITS NORMAL.
The line that always hits the most for me is 3:24. “No one will answer to my useless cries that echo in this room.” The Champions Ballad dlc hit me hard, especially the last scene with all if them together, taking the picture. I was laugh-crying the first time I watched and even now, rewatching it always gives me a kind of sinking feeling to my heart. The Champions’ story is so tragic and add Link’s awakening a century later...
I like the thought of Link wakes up, amnesia and all that. He gets told that he needs to save Hyrule quickly and to hurry. However, he’s immediately depressed and stressing out about being the only one who can. He has no friends, no memories, nothing. Therefore, he just chills and relaxes. He purposely takes his time and explores Hyrule. Not just for his memories, but because he wants to know how it feels to not be bounded by chains. He wants to live a life where he isn’t forced to do anything for anyone. He gets the divine beasts, sure, but then he continues exploring. Link wants to be free, and he is at the moment He takes his time, wanders Has fun with travelers and helping people out A small town hero is what he wants
This is undeniably one of the best fan-made songs I've ever heard. Like, holy god, my guy. And a thing I REALLY like about it is that it doesn't even tie DIRECTLY to BOTW Link or even the Zelda series in general. Like, any character who's really lonely in their respective stories could have this song slapped over a picture of their face and it would TOTALLY fit. Don't know why I brought that up... Great song!
Although I don't know if Wild had the worst, (Time might still hold that unwanted crown) he was definitely the loneliest. All other Links had a companion, someone who went with them literally everywhere. Wild had a slate, a cold block of stone that within remained chosen sections of memory. Even from the beginning, he was alone. Depending on how fast you do the shrines, Link has the companionship of the King, and even that is really only if we look for him. Only a spare few minutes spent with the King until he fades into eternal rest. For me, I imagine that the Wolf Link Amiibo helps Wild, even if just by a bit. He can't be with him everywhere, but he can try. Also, the Champions Gifts. From time to time, Link hears the voices of those he was supposed to know, and that's one sentence telling him that their powers have returned. Kass and the Champion Heirs as well. They help him as well, connecting him to the world of people, pulling him from the world of silence and loneliness. Yeah, he goofs off and is carefree, but he also is alone, guilt-ridden for a world he doesn't know, holding the gifts of people he doesn't know, and trying to answer the call of a princess he doesn't know. One Hylian is both free and chained.
No, I do believe Botw Link did have it the worst, OOT Link at least still rememberd what it was before he had to get the spiritual stones, but BOTW Link was thrown into Hyrule with no recollection of who he was, or what this place was, but he went forward, trying hard to figure out what happened when he learns almost all of his friends are dead and he failed as a hero 100 years ago.
However, all the links seem to have lost all their friends. WW has the red dragon guy, BOTW the champions,King Bosphoramus hyrule, etc. Twilight Princess had midna, I forgot which one but Fi, even though she’s still there, you can’t interact with her, and links uncle i think in links awakening. He’s lost a lot of friends.
@@KinokoKomedianCheese That may be true, but the only adventures in which Link lost this many friends are BotW and Awakening, in every other there are only one or two losses. Here, we have not only the four champions and the king, but nearly everyone Link knew (except Zelda and the Zora), combined with the fact that he had forgotten about all of them. So, I agree that this Link had the worst. Also, I think with Links Uncle you mean the one from A Link to the Past, who is alive in the ending.
I noticed you used the nicknames Time and Wild, many others use the names of the games. So I was wondering fellow Linked Universe fan? (If not then that's a bit awkward)
Coming back 4 years later to the song that helped me beat depression. Thank you Ham, for an amazing English version of an amazing song. You are amazing, and I can't ever thank you enough ❤
Throughout the song and in the Zelda fandom I've often seen people say Link ran away from his responsibility, but like he didn't? It confuses me because he was always going to fight Ganon he didn't intentionally get half dead and wake up 100 years later
@@firsiosarc1344 I think it's because most players do some/many the side quests and go exploring before actually fighting Ganon so it seems like Link is 'running away from his responsibilities' or 'procrastinating' when he (aka the player) does that.
Yeah, it doesn't make sense why people think that... especially since there is a memory you can find in-game where link throws himself in front of three guardians protecting Zelda and that is his death leading into where we start in Botw.
He starts to remember these people who where his friends who belived in him {except Revali} only to learn that they died because he fell in the plains. Everyone he will remember is already dead. And the one person who isnt dead will die soon if cant kill the thing that killed his friends he doesnt remember the thing that killed his family that he doesnt remember
Actually, Revali doesn't hate Link. (Not trying to be a Karen srry) He just want people to admire his skills despite all the suffering he goes through falling from such high heights created from his own gale. He wanted to be friends with Link, and wanted to do that by encouraging him to admire his skills and say stuff like: "Woah, so cool! Can we become friends?" Yet Link's silence just developed a bit of.. Jealousy? He said: "Yet I was given the job to merely assist you. All because you have that *little darkness sealing sword* on your back." He kinda hated him as much as Zelda, he couldn't have what he wanted, and he was not proud of himself. Even if you see him in the game having all this "confidence", is because he just wanted to feel important as Link, and that's kinda legit, because only young Ritos have red cheeks, and only children would act like Revali.
Revali actually believed in Link. You can understand this once you was set him free from Ganon’s control (Vah Medoh). technically, he always believed in Link. He was only looking down on everyone, mainly him, because he actually finds Ganon to be a target and he thinks that if he gets to defeat the main target he would go down in history. But his blood, sweat and tears put in his hard-work only to become ‘a sidekick’ to someone who just pulls a sword without effort and suddenly become a hero. He is the type of character to seem like quite a d!ckhead but once you get more into the story, you can tell that he can be going through as much as Link could.
I come back to this song time and time again, and only now did I pick up on Link heaving at the end. Personally, I see it as taking place RIGHT as Zelda asks if he remembers her. Him breathing tells us that he's hardly stopped to even BREATHE through this entire ordeal. This poor 17 year old boy has been running around Hyrule, struggling to even breathe properly.
This isnt the original animation, they just made an English cover of it so the only thing worth mention here is the lyrics, if you want to talk about the animation, go to the person that actually made it ruclips.net/video/j78ua9fpJ70/видео.html
Pros of this video: It's one of SirHammet's videos and the song perfectly fits BOTW. I still feel bad for Link though. Cons of this video: I relate to the lyrics and the emotional pain is real.
Yo, his smile at the end, why did it feel relatable? Like he's still going through everything, but instead of the smile at the beginning, this one's trying to say "Hmm? Oh! I'm alright! Let's get going, there's still much to do!" it's that **I don't want anyone to think less of me or worry about me**
I find myself in this song... I live alone for 10 years now... and through mental problems and a problematic childhood I cut most all connections to my family... Back then it seemed like a good thing to get apart from my mother (she was the reason for my bad childhood) but today I suffer from my self-imposed solitude. But the good news: next mont I start therapy against my mental problems :D
I hope things get better for you. Everyone goes through hard times, and you will get through it. It is great that you realized you needed help, and seeked it. :)

His responses to the stranger who turned out to be the king were so great and innocent. He just wanted to check the paraglider out.
@@ShadowSkyX Link doesn't really smile but it's more blank like curiosity.
Everyone asks where is link, no one asks how is link.
Something I’ve realized over the past few years:
You can still have friends yet feel like the loneliest person in the world
True
It comes from not being able to talk to them about the things that matter most to you. If you don't have someone you can pour your heart out to, then it doesn't matter how many friends you have...
Tell me about it...
Especially when all the real friends you did have beforehand have been dead for a century while you took a nap
Even tho i Have Friends And my parents still Around Even tho i know who i am And yet i'm still Lonely and Still Searching
Twist: The real reason Link lost his memories is because waking up with all his memories and realizing everything he loved and knew was gone would be too much, so the shrine was designed to take away those memories so that they could be regained slowly at a manageable pace, after the resurrected person had already started their "new life."
I really like the idea of that. I like to think that the Sheikah thought ahead, in case anyone did end up in Link's situation.

Curse of the lost woods those that enter gets lost and become stalfoes so that is how he died
@@JohnnyYeTaecanUktena Well not quite. Getting lost is one part of it. However the actual curse is something else. If an adult were to die inside the Lost Woods, they'll turn into a Stalfoss. @@jasp3r_n1ghtth0rn4 not really, this is specifically for BOTW link. In the previous games, the excuse was that link just never had a voice so the player could project himself/herself to the character. now they gave him an actual reason.

I played Breath of the Wild with my younger siblings watching me, and they always had something to say or point out and even helped me find mushrooms to make food when I was stuck on the Plateau. I was thinking anime ending, but definitely.
I wanna give link a hug :(
Zelda ended up really liking link before the calamity though
Blizzard1-1 Before. Zelda may still like him, but she didn't in the first place. We don't even know if Link likes her back.

Hylia didn't give him the whole reincarnation thing, it was a curse from Demon King Demise.

It can be dangerous to not talk. Like what if he gets a heart attack, and he’s just not gonna say anything?
Anyone else feel a massive gut punch when the Champions pass by Link as he breaks down? It's so beautiful yet heartbreakingly sad at the same time
That was the point I went to a few tears to a downpour.

That almost made me cry. Several times. So yes

@@moduIusHe has been talking since he awoke.

That is a legit reason for his silence. Maybe it's a conscious choice.
I'm no crying your crying
The only recorded evidence of link speaking is in the personal diary of Zelda and it’s just so sad all also there only like 7 scenes of link smiling in a timeline of over 10000 years it’s depressing

Here’s a bunch of random details:
0:14 There are four empty slots, representing the divine beasts and how they are not yet reclaimed
0:52 Link is traveling while smiling, in direct contrast to the final few moments of the song
1:19 this isn’t really an important detail, but you can see that Sidon is out of frame (because he’s so tall) and that the people surrounding him are from the time of the game, not the hundred years before, like the others (the champions and Zelda) later on
1:36 The moon is larger than it is normally, just how it is in-game during a blood moon
2:16 As Link’s head turns, his eyes become barely visible, again, not an important detail, but an interesting one
2:28 As the Champions begin to fade, the Memories in the background become more noticeable and prominent
2:46 yet again a small detail, this time the sheikah slate pulsing
3:13 those surrounding him are all those he remembers now, including those from the time of the game and the champions, and Zelda, her face hidden
3:43 The divine beasts are now aiming at Hyrule Castle, all is ready for the final battle
Around 3:47 There’s a flash of the symbols of the divine beasts and the full triforce, now grander than it ever was
4:00 Link is now much grimmer and serious about his duty, he is no longer smiling, why would he be? He has just realized that all his friends except one are dead or dying, his memory is so far gone he doesn’t even have a full day of his regular life to recall. And he is about to duel his greatest fears taken form. He has little understanding of who he is and why he must face this calamity...
He just wants a friend.
@HAMOTTOS , as far as I understand, it’s just symbolic of his new relationships passing by so quickly
But at the end, he smiles again. He has Zelda back, even if the others are gone. He has a friend. Even if his old life is missing, he has someone to help fill in the gaps. He's not alone, anymore. So when all is said and done, he smiles.
This made me cry omg

I would like to make a joke about the last time stamp is him going into complete genocide mode but I can’t or it would hurt me too much I feel like I am about to cry.

EVERYONE GIVE LINK A HUG HE DISERVES IT.
The reason why I love this song is probably because of the way it sorta humanises Link.
Imagine being the deku tree and when link stands in front of him he can’t tell the difference between the current one and the ones that stood before him before.
i mean the deku isnt immortal, he still dies yknow
Read my take on this i have really long comment I posted I have a very different idea of this then you.
@@wackyanimations3326 Tree can easily live for thousand of years. I think he has the time to see a fair share of Link, usually.
@@wackyanimations3326 yeah, ocarina of time proved that to anyone whoplayed it, he literally just, dies.
And the old zora people hate Link and blame him for mipha death before he saves the divine beast
@@mira3498 no they don’t
@@tanjirokamado8845 have you talked to them?
The music inside Mipha's divine beast best symbolizes the true tone of the game, whether it's the first beast you free or the last. It's the only song that gets progressively darker and more ominous the more terminals you activate. Are you in denial that she'll be dead or afraid to admit the truth? Quietly enraged? Do you believe destroying the blight will bring her back? Or does knowing you failed her put you in a mental downward spiral, aka depression? The track instills anxiety and fear of what he knows, wants to know, doesn't know, and doesn't want to know.

"No one will answer to my useless cries that echo in this room"
My heart broke into frigging pieces at that scene, and it shattered into a million splinters with the lyrics.

Lyrics:
No matter how you live your life, you're breathing every day
Depending on somebody else to lead you on your way
But even if they disappear, you're breathing all the same
'Cause all you do is drag along whomever keeps you safe
The people who I cherished and the people I forgot
Relationships that came and went without another thought
Although I felt an inkling this is not how things should be
I guess I didn't really know a single thing
Whatever anyone may say
I know I've always been this way
As I avert my gaze away from bonds I've severed to this day
Even I cry when I'm alone
Even if nobody will know
'Cause deathly loneliness strikes on its own
For all the people's feelings that I threw off to the side
Although I know I needed them to keep myself in line
The punishment for running from my duty all those times
Has tightened all around my chest and now begins to bite
Before I know it, something in my heart begins to change
I wish I had somebody else to share my everyday
My body feels so numb as I succumb to prickling pain
I realise now that solitude is not a strength
Whatever words I said out loud
I know there's no returning now
And yet again I tell myself "it's fine because it can't be helped"
No matter just how much I cry
No one will be there by my side
The cracks within my heart run deep with time
(( instrumental ))
So that it wouldn't break
So that I wouldn't break
Although my hands were shaking I still tried to keep it safe
Oh what a simple feeling and I fail still to comprehend
I held too tight and it broke to pieces in the end
Hugging my knees, I cry in vain
Knowing that not a thing will change
No one will answer to my useless cries that echo in this room
Even the silence of the night
Even the veil of the moonlight
Won't erase, won't erase what I try to escape and that's the truth
There's no way I can say all the words hid away
So deathly loneliness has followed me to this day

This song hits so hard when you read Zeldas diary in the castle, learning why he doesn't speak: "With so much at stake, and so many eyes upon me, I felt it necessary to stay strong, and silently bear any burden." It ties in so tightly to this video and Link as a whole. A courageous warrior who is completely alone, he stuck to his word told to Zelda that day, and that drives his grim determination as he slowly recollects the memories. He isn't afraid to die, he isn't afraid to fail. We see in the memories time and time again him throwing himself in the face of danger to protect those he loves. I love this Link, and I feel so sorry for him, the kid has gone through so much and yet through sheer will, lives on to fight another day.
and also the fact that he never wanted to be the hero also stated in zeldas diary yet he still does all that shit

Pretty much an Anime opening for breath of the wild
Very true giant spoilers and all
...If we did get an anime, would it be a good anime? If it's a good anime going into Link's inner struggles, I might watch it.
Then again the last time there was an animated series for Legend of Zelda...well, I've never seen it myself so I can't judge, but everyone kind of seems to hate it - that can't be a good sign as a Zelda fan, if it's anything similar to The Last Airbender movie...

THIS IS A BOTW ANIME (OR WHATEVER THE HEAK ANIME IS)
@@danmcginley6253 They prob mean a whole botw ANIME *SERIES*"

I've always imagined Link holding the Master Sword in cracks in his persona because it's one of the only full relics of his past life
It's also sad that if this Link doesn't remember his past, all he knows is the fight and small remnants of his past
Him trying to pick up the master sword in my opinion is when though he is broken in so many way's he tries to bring himself together, only to fail and realize though while worthy to wield the sword it cracks steals his health before disappearing in blue light leaving him with nothing at all to fight back with
He doesn’t even get to remember his family :(
I've always assumed that the final memory is what triggers him remembering everything from 100 years ago.
Personally… I feel that out of all the iterations of Link, Wild is up there with enduring the worst torment through the course of his game.
Time: Time travel, forcing a child to grow up then shunting him back to the past to let him grow up.
Twilight: Honestly… the entire kingdom was attacked by creatures of twilight, he was turned into a wolf and taken captive for a brief moment and used by Midna
Windwaker: A flooded hyrule… can’t really think of much worse.
Wild: Failed in preventing the end of hyrule, almost dies, forced into stasis to be healed… Lost his friends, family, everyone he’s ever known. The only person he truly knows locked herself in the castle to prevent the evil from spreading…
Wild has it rough…
Winds' world was normal to him, the only reason he stepped up for action was because his sister was taken because she could have been Zelda. Out of all the Links, Winds has the most lighthearted story. Wild definatly has the most soul-crushing one though
What about majoras mask
@@TheDracolordian Technically speaking, majora’s mask beat ocarina of time, so he succeeded in that, but when he was sent back in time to relive his childhood, skull kid interfered.
Or you know, there’s that theory that Majora’s mask happens because link dies. Thats a theory though
@@TheDracolordian You remember that Wild will also have to deal with a sequel, like Time ? (So, guess he will still beat Time to it)
The thing is, by definition, if link was put in the shrine of *resurrection*, then he was genuinely killed that night
The act of being so anti-social that you drive away what relationships you DO have can really mess you up in the long run. It's something you don't really understand you're doing until you've ghosted people. By then they aren't so keen on just turning around and welcoming you back as the same friend.
DEPRESSION IS REAL.

this hits different when u realize this actually might be how link feels when he doesnt have a voice
I also read in a fanfiction that had the idea of Link using telepathy to convey what he wants to say. Maybe that could be the case too?
@@cassinoelle4289 hmm
He has a voice, but he doesn’t use it because it is easier to hide feelings if your mute.
“i held too tight and it broke to pieces in the end” hits home a bit too much
Oot link also held too tightly to the relationships he made in his journey, only to lose pretty much all of them, either by his own hand -pulling the master sword and enabling ganondorf to take over hyrule - or ganondorf's, more directly. Hyrule at large was saved but nearly everyone he come to care about died or he was too young to understand how to help.
I love this video. It absolutely embodies the tragic side of BotW Link’s character. The guy lost everything: his memories, his friends, his family, and so much more.
He may not have died but he died
This hits so much harder after Age of Calamity
Playing Breath Of the Wild feels so... I don’t know, bare? Lonely? In AoC you always have allies by your side, but botw is so barren. It feels grim playing botw now

I like how it's just revalis death is sad but not too serious
@@dbomb2448 I mean it is serious for hyrule because of Vah Medoh but not for link😂
I don't think revali disliked him. He was just a jelous rival, something that everoyone has. But yeah I like your comment.
“No one will answer to my useless cries that echo in this room.”
The Champions Ballad dlc hit me hard, especially the last scene with all if them together, taking the picture. The Tears of the Wild ;-;
I like the thought of
Link wakes up, amnesia and all that.
Link wants to be free, and he is at the moment
He takes his time, wanders
Has fun with travelers and helping people out
A small town hero is what he wants
This is undeniably one of the best fan-made songs I've ever heard. Like, holy god, my guy.
And a thing I REALLY like about it is that it doesn't even tie DIRECTLY to BOTW Link or even the Zelda series in general. Like, any character who's really lonely in their respective stories could have this song slapped over a picture of their face and it would TOTALLY fit.
Don't know why I brought that up... Great song!
Hmmm
How about Pokémon where u leave your house and go on a journey at ten
That would last for months since get stuck on literally every gym leader 😂

But the catch his: he communicates with charades
Throughout the song and in the Zelda fandom I've often seen people say Link ran away from his responsibility, but like he didn't? It confuses me because he was always going to fight Ganon he didn't intentionally get half dead and wake up 100 years later
Iam confused by that too
@@firsiosarc1344
I think it's because most players do some/many the side quests and go exploring before actually fighting Ganon so it seems like Link is 'running away from his responsibilities' or 'procrastinating' when he (aka the player) does that.
Yeah, it doesn't make sense why people think that... especially since there is a memory you can find in-game where link throws himself in front of three guardians protecting Zelda and that is his death leading into where we start in Botw.

Actually, Revali doesn't hate Link. (Not trying to be a Karen srry)
He just want people to admire his skills despite all the suffering he goes through falling from such high heights created from his own gale. He wanted to be friends with Link, and wanted to do that by encouraging him to admire his skills and say stuff like: "Woah, so cool! Can we become friends?" Yet Link's silence just developed a bit of.. Jealousy? He said: "Yet I was given the job to merely assist you. All because you have that *little darkness sealing sword* on your back."
He kinda hated him as much as Zelda, he couldn't have what he wanted, and he was not proud of himself.
Is no one just going to talk about the animation and wonderful music... just me...okay
You are not alone
This isnt the original animation, they just made an English cover of it so the only thing worth mention here is the lyrics, if you want to talk about the animation, go to the person that actually made it ruclips.net/video/j78ua9fpJ70/видео.html
Hey! The artists do!
Can the Zelda community give BotW link a hug he freaking deserves it for what he's been through

Thanks for the hugs : )
All of us links need hugs
@@dabestorkposta couldn't agree more my guy
Pros of this video: It's one of SirHammet's videos and the song perfectly fits BOTW. I still feel bad for Link though.
Cons of this video: I relate to the lyrics and the emotional pain is real.
Same :(
I feel you.
Yo, his smile at the end, why did it feel relatable? Like he's still going through everything, but instead of the smile at the beginning, this one's trying to say "Hmm? Oh! I'm alright! Let's get going, there's still much to do!" it's that **I don't want anyone to think less of me or worry about me**
Link remember that Zelda has been watching since the beginning.
And that motivates him
I seen everything. . .
@@noriakikakyoin7961 Yep 😂😂

I find myself in this song...
I live alone for 10 years now... and through mental problems and a problematic childhood I cut most all connections to my family... Back then it seemed like a good thing to get apart from my mother (she was the reason for my bad childhood) but today I suffer from my self-imposed solitude.
But the good news: next mont I start therapy against my mental problems :D
I hope things get better for you. Everyone goes through hard times, and you will get through it. It is great that you realized you needed help, and seeked it. :)
You got this man!
Hope you’re doing well man
Good luck, I hope you'll be able to be at peace with yourself
Hope your better now! Or on the way to be better!
