The four champions and he lost most of his memories he woke up in a time where he didn’t know who he was and why is it his duty to save the world and why is he the chosen one his family probably died in the great Calamity how is he gonna get them back? if anyone else notices, in the beginning of the song, in the small animation of link travelling, he is smiling, and continues smiling, until the end, where he has the stoic quiet look. he remembers who he is, and goes back to being himself.

He has companions and all, but most of his journeys are faced alone, all of his struggles are taken on alone, and he's never seen with anyone for an extended period of time either. The song Deathly Lonliness Attacks is actually very fitting to his character due to his forced solidarity in his different journeys as well as over what is most likely the rest of his lifetime. In this essay I will-
Sometimes when i play botw i feel the deathly loneliness, especially when i go back to the great plateau and remember, while standing near the fire where you first see the old man, that I'll never meet him, or talk to him again. There's no one on this pice of land anymore, and I'll never hear his giggling again. he's the first person you meet in game, he's like your father. He teaches you how to hunt and cook. And every time i see a fire on the plateau, I for a split second expect to see him standing there, ready to give me a sense of security and comfort, bieng the only source of safety in that once new and scary world.
For me it was at the flight range I felt lonely. With that melody playing while standing near fireplace and snow falling all around it was really emotional

Wow it made me realise how lonely Link must have felt after collecting all the memories.. all his comrades fallen.. all that he knew now in ruin.. was it better that he didnt remember at all?.. maybe it motivated him to protect those who survived and to save his princess.. im crying.
On top of that, the only memories he remembers are the specific ones regarding his role. For all we know, he may not remember his family, his age, or even his birthday. ...Though, when asked, at least he's honest by saying "I'm over a hundred years old!".
Plus he's been reincarnated so many times for over 10,000 years. If we assume he comes back every 100 years because evil/ganon comes back every 100 years, it makes one wonder if there's any point to fighting evil at all. It makes it all the more interesting knowing ocarina happened before BotW (I think???) and we have dark link vs Link. Thre's a lot of shadow and doubt for link to face in the world and possibly within himself after having to fight on a huge map from age 10 to around a mere 16-18.
As I was watching this I started crying with the sudden realization of how fitting this song is for him... After it ended I immediately went to play botw trying to pretend that me playing would be like giving him company
Can we just appreciate the effort and care that has been put into this, like this is genuinely one of the best pieces of original content I’ve seen on RUclips in recent memory.
Imagine waking up to a voice you don't recognize, having no idea why you are in a strange chamber. You are told you are the only person who can save the world, and you were asleep for 100 years. You are told to pick up a small device. You must place it into a pedestal, afraid it will keep it, not letting you take it back. You exit the chamber, and see the light of day.
I love how BOTW starts off with the usual quest of "It's your duty to save Zelda and the kingdom" like all other Zelda games. But then after you figure out who you are and gather your memories, you fall in love with your friends. And this becomes a much more personal quest for vengance. He goes from being the hero who saves Zelda and the kingdom, to a friend who saves the champions' purpose. Making sure their deaths were not in vain.

Omg imagine a BOTW anime. They could make a season of things that happened before the calamity, with the calamity as the finale of the season. Then season 2 could be after the calamity when link wakes up again
basically your idea: Season1: Before calamity Season2: The great plateu and the start of the journey to kakariko Season3: Kakarico, Hatena an the first divine beast (I think Vah Medoh, because the order of the memories) Season4: Journey to Gerudo to defeat yiga clan and thunderbligth ganon Season5: Goron city and Vah Rudania Season6: Vah Ruta Season7: Champion ballad and trial of the sword Season8: Lost memories and 7 complete episodes of the battle with ganon This is for a complete season doing for the main quest of the game
the problem is, with just drawing everything, this video must be an ordeal, and it's this short and mostly just editing or moving parts (not to bash the artist). a whole anie would take forever
I wish this played whenever I booted up BotW on my Switch. Also, I wish I had a friend who knew nothing about BotW that I could show this too and have them try to describe what the game is like just from this. And then have them play the game.
Lol, I know absolutely nothing about this game but the story inspires me. I want to write a fanfiction on this~ but that is more about the emotional part.
All of the animations and visuals got me thinking about how sad I would be if I was in Link’s situation. I mean alone day in and day out, knowing that the fate of everyone rested on my shoulders. Well the point of this rant is just I think this really helps to develop Link’s character of having a kind heart and strong will. If you think about it Link is an amazing person for pushing through all that he endured in this game.

Kinda, depends on how you played the game, maybe for someone link was just a crazy naked guy running around exploding things and setting hyrule on fire.
Also if you think about it, the dude just randomly woke up with no memories. He was essentially a new-born with basic knowledge of communication and motion.
with exception to a few people and zoras, everyone Link knew are long gone after 100 years.....and he'd have quite the steel heart for not crying after regaining all the memories. In reality (in the game that is) Link doens't show much emotion and 'does' have a heart of cold steel....but the dialogue may seem to suggest otherwise, i dunno if its translation into eng but some of the answers he gives may hold some bit of sarcasm
Gosh, I'm always so sad for this Link. Waking up completely amnesiac and slowly relearning trauma, survivor's guilt, anxieties, and role as a world-shouldering hero, all while never getting to remember the more pleasant days of childhood, of family. He slowly remembers the people he knew, but only briefly, and by then he already knows they've been long dead. He's quirky and answers people as such sometimes - and, like Zelda's diary said, he loves food! - but he can hardly be himself, you know? He has to LEARN himself, and his past, and his friends, and Zelda, all while fighting to survive in the wild and fighting monsters and the Calamity itself. Oof.
Exactly, I completely agree. He's also alone for the majority of his travels, leaving him probably with a crap ton of loneliness (since a village or stable would happen after days of traveling) since he would have to leave a day or two later just to move on. Seriously, this link has to go through so much shit
I love that angle, I wish it was somehow conveyed better through the game though. For me the true tragedy is Link slowly regaining his memories. If he doesn't remember anything then at least everything is new. But bit by bit he recovers these tragic memories of his closest friends (and potential romantic interests) dying. It sucks that link has to be a silent protagonist, I'd love for there to be some indication that he misses his friends. When mipha saves his life with mipha's Grace it's like he gets to see her again for just a second, and then he's alone again. Idk, I'd love to see a fan comic or something with that storytelling. I'd make it myself if I was better able to draw haha
Same, if someone made a animated series about this Link I would have jumped at it. It would have a crap ton of character development, (as such people not believing in him and those who do) causing ups and downs in the way he viewed his 'failure' over and over again. Gah! There's just so much happening to him and he can barely understand why
You have a Heroic and lonely Link, forced out of his time, and cursed with the sole fact that he, failed as the chosen Hero, and that it's his fault that Hyrule has turned into the hellhole it is today, and all he wants to do is finish the job that he failed all those years ago...... But then there's also this Link who looks at Hyrule castle and goes "ok let's go kill some fokin ganons!"
Now that I’m playing the game a second time, I’m realizing how depressing it is. Imagine you were Link. You wake up with no memory of anything, and you have to immediately go and complete a bunch of hard tasks with nothing to show for it. Everyone that you were close to has died, and the kingdom you once knew is completely in ruin. You’re traveling alone, with no one for you to talk to or comfort you. You have to carry a large burden and you can’t tell people how you really feel about them, because everyone just expects you to do everything without realizing that you’re a human too. Even if you meet people you like, or find a village you could live in, you can’t because you have to save everyone. It doesn’t even really matter if you stop Calamity Ganon, since he’s already destroyed everything and no one even cares or thanks you for saving them. Even if you do regain all your memories, you still know that Zelda never really was your close friend, and the game ends with the two of you just walking back to your horses, so you don’t know what’s happening next. This song perfectly shows how Link feels as he’s traveling, and it shows that being the hero of Hyrule isn’t as cool as it seems to be. Edit: don’t forget that Link is only 17, and is pretty young to be doing all of this. Double edit: yes I’m still here if anyone has anything to add to the discussion or anything. It’s so great to see so many people that are as enthusiastic about Zelda as I am!
I love how Breath Of The Wild portrays how it must feel to lose all of your memories and be pressured to defeat a colossal monster. Link wakes up knowing nothing and we don’t either and all of a sudden we learn we must kill this demon like thing and that all of our friends died. Just imagine how heartbreaking that was for Link
Link in every variation is pretty force whether it be saving the kingdom from the people of twilight or stopping ganondorf from getting the triflrce but this variation is the worst for link as a person
I imagine he didn't immediately feel the guilt; there wasn't enough memories there to connect on an emotional level or any compacity really, there is too big of a gap in his memories. The weight of his failures came later, when he regains enough association and memories to start reconnecting to them more cohesively and realizing what he actually lost. Memories are fickle though and very seldomly come back in chronogical order. For some, the memories rush back all at once, for others, it returns over the coarse of days, weeks or even a year. This is why finding the memories in any order is done the way it is.

Wow it made me realise how lonely Link must have felt after collecting all the memories.. all his comrades fallen.. all that he knew now in ruin.. was it better that he didnt remember at all?.. maybe it motivated him to protect those who survived and to save his princess.. im crying.
On top of that, the only memories he remembers are the specific ones regarding his role. For all we know, he may not remember his family, his age, or even his birthday.
...Though, when asked, at least he's honest by saying "I'm over a hundred years old!".
Plus he's been reincarnated so many times for over 10,000 years. If we assume he comes back every 100 years because evil/ganon comes back every 100 years, it makes one wonder if there's any point to fighting evil at all. It makes it all the more interesting knowing ocarina happened before BotW (I think???) and we have dark link vs Link. Thre's a lot of shadow and doubt for link to face in the world and possibly within himself after having to fight on a huge map from age 10 to around a mere 16-18.

このMVを何年も前に見かけたのが最初でした。
当時は未プレイでした。
ティアキンがやりたくて、
前作のブレワイもやってみようと思い、
ゼル伝シリーズを初めてプレイしました。
始める時にこのMVを思い出し、
ブレワイをクリアしたら
もう一度見に来ようと決めてスタートしました。
そして終わるのが寂しくて寄り道をしたりと、
なかなか終えられませんでしたが、先程やっと決意をしクリアすることができました。
ゲームを終え早速閲覧しましたが、
昔見た時とは全然違う印象でした。
細かい所まで描かれていて、
「あー！こんなシーンもあったあった😢」と感動と懐かしい気持ちになりました。
(のんびりしすぎて、気づいたら2年ほど経過してました(苦笑))
やり残した事を終えたらティアキンに進もうと思います！

厄災プレイ動画が多いせいで忘れがちだけど大切な仲間達を失ってるし、かかる責任も重大だし平気なわけがないよね。
よくよく考えたらリンクって元は近衞騎士として姫であるゼルダを護るためにある存在なのに結局守るべき対象に逆に守られたり、信頼してた仲間たちはみんな死んでたりで歴代リンクの中でも時のオカリナの次くらいには切ないよな。

I love how BOTW starts off with the usual quest of "It's your duty to save Zelda and the kingdom" like all other Zelda games. But then after you figure out who you are and gather your memories, you fall in love with your friends. And this becomes a much more personal quest for vengance. He goes from being the hero who saves Zelda and the kingdom, to a friend who saves the champions' purpose. Making sure their deaths were not in vain.

Lol, I know absolutely nothing about this game but the story inspires me. I want to write a fanfiction on this~ but that is more about the emotional part.
But in order to do that, I need to know the whole story so I will need to get to know the game. :')
All of the animations and visuals got me thinking about how sad I would be if I was in Link’s situation. I mean alone day in and day out, knowing that the fate of everyone rested on my shoulders. Well the point of this rant is just I think this really helps to develop Link’s character of having a kind heart and strong will. If you think about it Link is an amazing person for pushing through all that he endured in this game.

Kinda, depends on how you played the game, maybe for someone link was just a crazy naked guy running around exploding things and setting hyrule on fire.
Also if you think about it, the dude just randomly woke up with no memories. He was essentially a new-born with basic knowledge of communication and motion.
with exception to a few people and zoras, everyone Link knew are long gone after 100 years.....and he'd have quite the steel heart for not crying after regaining all the memories. In reality (in the game that is) Link doens't show much emotion and 'does' have a heart of cold steel....but the dialogue may seem to suggest otherwise, i dunno if its translation into eng but some of the answers he gives may hold some bit of sarcasm

ゼルダの近衛騎士として戦ってる途中で気絶して気付いたら100年後やし記憶失っててさ、100年前のメンツかもしくはその関係者に会う度に「あぁ…眠ってたから覚えてないんやね。」って悲しげな顔で言われ続けたら辛いよな…。徐々に昔の記憶と惨劇思い出して行くのもただただ苦行でしかないし、ただ1人自分だけ生かされてるのも孤独やし。挙句、勝手に負けて死んでったヤツらに「ガノン倒して！」って言われるけど1人に背負わせる量とちゃうっちゅうねん。

Gosh, I'm always so sad for this Link. Waking up completely amnesiac and slowly relearning trauma, survivor's guilt, anxieties, and role as a world-shouldering hero, all while never getting to remember the more pleasant days of childhood, of family. He slowly remembers the people he knew, but only briefly, and by then he already knows they've been long dead. He's quirky and answers people as such sometimes - and, like Zelda's diary said, he loves food! - but he can hardly be himself, you know? He has to LEARN himself, and his past, and his friends, and Zelda, all while fighting to survive in the wild and fighting monsters and the Calamity itself.

Exactly, I completely agree. He's also alone for the majority of his travels, leaving him probably with a crap ton of loneliness (since a village or stable would happen after days of traveling) since he would have to leave a day or two later just to move on.

I love that angle, I wish it was somehow conveyed better through the game though. For me the true tragedy is Link slowly regaining his memories. If he doesn't remember anything then at least everything is new. But bit by bit he recovers these tragic memories of his closest friends (and potential romantic interests) dying. It sucks that link has to be a silent protagonist, I'd love for there to be some indication that he misses his friends. When mipha saves his life with mipha's Grace it's like he gets to see her again for just a second, and then he's alone again. Idk, I'd love to see a fan comic or something with that storytelling. I'd make it myself if I was better able to draw haha

You have a Heroic and lonely Link, forced out of his time, and cursed with the sole fact that he, failed as the chosen Hero, and that it's his fault that Hyrule has turned into the hellhole it is today, and all he wants to do is finish the job that he failed all those years ago......
But then there's also this Link who looks at Hyrule castle and goes "ok let's go kill some fokin ganons!"

Now that I’m playing the game a second time, I’m realizing how depressing it is. Imagine you were Link. You wake up with no memory of anything, and you have to immediately go and complete a bunch of hard tasks with nothing to show for it. Everyone that you were close to has died, and the kingdom you once knew is completely in ruin. You’re traveling alone, with no one for you to talk to or comfort you. You have to carry a large burden and you can’t tell people how you really feel about them, because everyone just expects you to do everything without realizing that you’re a human too. Even if you meet people you like, or find a village you could live in, you can’t because you have to save everyone. It doesn’t even really matter if you stop Calamity Ganon, since he’s already destroyed everything and no one even cares or thanks you for saving them. Even if you do regain all your memories, you still know that Zelda never really was your close friend, and the game ends with the two of you just walking back to your horses, so you don’t know what’s happening next. This song perfectly shows how Link feels as he’s traveling, and it shows that being the hero of Hyrule isn’t as cool as it seems to be.
Edit: don’t forget that Link is only 17, and is pretty young to be doing all of this.

100年の時が経ち、仲間である英傑は亡き者になってしまい、悲しみに暮れるリンクの姿がとても切なく感じた。。。
しかし、それでも無くした記憶を取り戻すため、また厄災ガノンを倒すために戦い続けるリンクの姿がとても繊細に描かれていて、素晴らしい作画だと感じた。

I love how Breath Of The Wild portrays how it must feel to lose all of your memories and be pressured to defeat a colossal monster. Link wakes up knowing nothing and we don’t either and all of a sudden we learn we must kill this demon like thing and that all of our friends died. Just imagine how heartbreaking that was for Link

Link in every variation is pretty force whether it be saving the kingdom from the people of twilight or stopping ganondorf from getting the triflrce but this variation is the worst for link as a person
I imagine he didn't immediately feel the guilt; there wasn't enough memories there to connect on an emotional level or any compacity really, there is too big of a gap in his memories. The weight of his failures came later, when he regains enough association and memories to start reconnecting to them more cohesively and realizing what he actually lost.
Memories are fickle though and very seldomly come back in chronogical order. For some, the memories rush back all at once, for others, it returns over the coarse of days, weeks or even a year. This is why finding the memories in any order is done the way it is.
I can’t fathom how people hate this game. Aside from the amazing gameplay, the story is so much more than people make it out to be.
