@@mycoinsyourpurse2244 He used to write these fantastic long pieces for Kotaku back in the day, where he would do things like review soccer or talk about his hair-care regime. They're years old now but theres some great articles on kotaku by Tim out there. But yup he's just making these amazing videos for K-Taco now.
This is phenomenal, amazing, and hilarious!!! Well worth my 14 minutes and 21 seconds!! I had a stressful day, and this took my mind away from it! Thanks Tim! On a slightly related note (I'm totally going to be over-analyzing here... but I needed to get these thoughts out on "paper" somewhere...), in mainline Pokemon games, I feel like the constant references to Pokemon make the game into kind of a "singleplayer mmo" without actually acting like all the characters are in an mmo. Everyone's talking about Pokemon -- partially for kids who are playing the game -- but also because that is the plot. In basic and older mmo's, a big part of the plot is that there is a shared world that people are visiting and experiencing together. That gives the world life and character and "realism." In Pokemon, everyone is participating in the same game -- just like an mmo -- except everybody is an npc. And to those npc's, the world *is* reality. And then you can step out of this single-player mmo experience and battle other real people -- adding even more reality to your experience. At least that's how I used to view it back when I played Pokemon. It's not trying to be Draqon Quest. It's merely using the Dragon-Quest-npc format for ulterior purposes and goals. And when you combine that with the attachment you build to your very unique pokemon that seem to behave differently in battle from other pokemon of the same species -- like they're actually unique creatures (a feeling that we now know was born out of the "effort values" that top notch players manipulate) -- well, the personal connection to the Pokemon combined with the singleplayer mmo aspect is probably what draws adults back into it long after they've passed the "target audience age" to which the games overtly cater. There's enough substance there (and strategy in battling) for all ages!
I watched half of this, now I've decided I'm going to go to bed and watch it tomorrow. It's really good! I'll watch it multiple times for sure. Thanks Tim & Kotaku
I didn't know Ricky Jay was more than an actor I'd seen on Deadwood. Your high praise has inspired me to check him out. Also Tim please know you are my favorite person who talks about games, I'm thankful I found out you exist, and I hope you release a book soon.
I seen the video name and I was like "Hands down this is a Tim video!". I clicked and was not disappointed. I don't even like Pokemon and I watched the video anyways.
Rogers, you bring a heck of a lot of joy. I only knew Ricky Jay from Deadwood; his death has proven a morbid opportunity to acquaint myself with the career that encouraged his casting on that show, and brought so much joy to you. Looking forward to my first viewing of 52 Assistants.
Huh this actually gets at why I could never stick with these games for very long past their intros. Almost the whole thing always feels like a commercial ad for itself.
very thorough work here Tim. we're promoting you to video editor in chief, giving you 14 more paid holidays, and moving you up to the Power Caller floor!
Funny video that also exposes one of the worst problems with these redundant games. I simply can't play Pokemon anymore until they grow the games up a little. Can we please get one Pokemon game for humans over the age of 5?
Lol it's almost like they live in a world where you can't even leave town without being attacked by world ending beasts and where the primary source of income is based on it
I mean maybe if you didn't walk around everywhere with TWO Pokemon that follow you everywhere, people wouldn't presume that you want to talk about Pokemon? You ever think about that, huh?
So I’m not technically subscribed to Kotaku. And nothing against the site at all, I just don’t subscribe to many channels I guess? But I’ve become obsessed with your content. I’m routinely looking up to see if you post new videos. One might reasonably tell me, You Idiot Just Subscribe. And as I’m typing this out, I’m coming to realize the error of my ways IN THIS MOMENT. I will now subscribe after this brief period of self reflection. Your content is hilarious. I hope you’re well fed and payed. Good day, Mr. Rogers.
pokemon Showdown Kotaku, you big disgrace! You are so getting Nintendo to shut down this game, like all the fan games you report on. VGC would be hell without Showdown..
Tim's videos should be tagged as such in the title.
Yeah seriously. I didn't know the other two Pokemon videos were his so now I'm gonna go watch them
I think the writing in his video thumbnails have their own font none of the other kotaku videos use, so just look for that.
There is a playlist on the kotaku channel called "Videos by tim rogers".
Can't you tell from the titles? Who else is putting out Conversationalists Guides?
you should be able to guess with quite high accuracy when a video has him in it by topic alone
I just love Tim’s videos so much. I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t watch them.
Kotaku is struggling because they didn't fully embrace video content sooner. Did they hire Tm solely for video content? Makes sense.

This man is a treasure.
"Fashionably foreshortened leg sleeves" is now one of my favorite phrases of all time.
Tim, your videos always bring me great joy. Thank you for doing this type of important work.
Best wishes,
Oliver.
In what has been a largely indifferent year for me, I feel so thankful to have found Tim.
"*whisper whisper*"
That is the pinnacle of conversation, my good man!

This was exactly the type of information I needed to make my purchase decision. Thank you.
This grandiloquently edifying video brought me an insurmountable fountain of enjoyment.
An insurmountable fountain? Why, have you heard of HM07: Waterfall? You ought to teach it to your _Pokémon_!
I watched half of this, now I've decided I'm going to go to bed and watch it tomorrow. It's really good! I'll watch it multiple times for sure. Thanks Tim & Kotaku
I feel like this is how authors always try to write their literature
Lit 🔥 trachur.
what a delight, I'm glad took a dive into Tim's back catalogue.

I love the somber piano playing whenever something disappointing happens. You rock, Tim!

The sound Tim Rogers voice tickles my brovaries.
rest in peace Ricky T-T
I hereby request that Tim's new podcast be named "Tiny Animal Husbandry (With Daddy's Bingo)"
"Pocketable monstrosities" - brilliant! I'm not even into Pokemon, and i enjoyed this. Hurrah for Tim Rogers!
*Speech 100*

Tim this is pure gold.
oh my god "asshuming" at about 1:10 is a lunguistic deep cut i am all the way here for
(ok it's maybe not deep but. well done)
The first five star conversation you call out really strikes me as being tutorial in nature. I feel as though the five star rating was unearned.
I like shorts, their comfy and easy to wear
This is the only awesome output by Kotaku :D
This was wonderful and also a weird way to learn that Ricky Jay died.
The npc’s talk about Pokémon in the same way everyone in Charlie and the Chocolate factory talk about Willy Wonka’s chocalate
This is funniest fucking video I’ve ever watched
Tim. You’re a hero.
I'm pretty sure those *whispers* had pokemon in them.. you counted wrong
Tim Rogers you're amazing and 3:10 made me literally LOL
Tim's script for this video was genius!
Imagine being a pokemon disliker or into anything else, living in a Pokemon game
Tim Rogers is the Jack Vance of video game journalists.
You have too much time on your hands XD and I'm glad.
Hadn't heard of Ricky Jay. What a guy.
Lol it's almost like they live in a world where you can't even leave town without being attacked by world ending beasts and where the primary source of income is based on it
I'm going to watch that Ricky Jay video now.
I'm sorry what are the animals called again?
Pocket Monsters
I'm so confused with this video... why do I love it? Why dose it exist? Is it tongue and cheek or what? Y do I love this?!?
Next up: Dragon Quest XI - A conversationalist guide.
can you please narrate my life. your antiquated structure is perfect
Pokemon makes Corpus Linguistics actually fun.
Pokédisco Elysium when
The amount of 1 star people creates the mood of a bruh moment
Perfect analysis!
2 out of 3 people saying pokemon does not equal to 0.75 usages per human. That would be 3 out of 4. It's actually 0.67~ usages per human.
Tim Rogers does the Lord’s work
Why is this in my reccomended and who is "Tim"?
Love this guy.
I really liked this.
I hear TIm Rogers, I click like.
I mean maybe if you didn't walk around everywhere with TWO Pokemon that follow you everywhere, people wouldn't presume that you want to talk about Pokemon? You ever think about that, huh?
Tim, you're the best
This is some Dr. Seuss inception kind of thinking isn't it?
This man has read alot of Lovecraft
Brilliant
"intellectual intercourse" EXCUSE ME???
The NPCs in this game are kinda garbage and lacking in charm and personality.
That dedication at the end is lovely.
you missed one
