Pokemon Sword & Shield: Not A Metaphor For Brexit
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 сен 2024
- You asked me (on Twitter) 300 questions about Pokémon Sword & Shield. I answered as many as Nintendo's embargo restrictions would allow me to. That turned out to be three of them:
• Is There Brexit?
• Can Trainers Punch Wild Pokémon Themselves?
• Can You Eat A Wooloo?
Please enjoy ten minutes of Video Content which uses just six minutes of footage separated meticulously into 20-second clips, and also never shows the inside of a Pokémon Center.
When you know it's a Tim Rogers video before you even click on the video.
I was questioning if it actually was because of the time limit. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed.
After watching Tim Rogers review a controller for 1 hour, hearing his thoughts on a new Pokémon game in a measly 10 minute preview video is akin to reading the back of the cover description of a book I’ve been wanting to read in the book section of a Goodwill
That "Pokemon Trainer" point you brought up is a very good point and can lead to surely hundreds of instances of questions about how certain Pokemon would wear sneakers. Thank you as always for what you do, Tim Rogers. Looking forward to what you're gonna talk about after the embargo lifts
Top 3 Pokémon to put in curry:
1. Wulu
2. Slowpoke
3. Miltank
Dont you dare touch my precious wooloo!
Just the tail for slowpoke tho

As a Brit, in Newcastle no less, i thoroughly appreciated the small details in this video. Thank you, Timothy, for creating such fine content.
thank you tim. "where's the clown-like prime minister" made me laugh.
There is a Prime-Minister-like clown Pokemon, though
@@pennyfarting it kinda resembles ur pfp
Mr. Mime for Prime Minister!
I was very upset that there was a Tim Rogers video I couldn't watch (Death Stranding Spoilers), I am satiated now. Thank you.
I didn't know he made a DS spoilers video!! I'm beyond psyched thank you kind sir!!
I'm glad I'm not the only person who felt exactly this way.
i’m getting close to being able to crack that one open
I feel like Tim Rogers is one of the few people I can disrespectfully agree with on this matter.
He's an unabashed hypeman, but an honest and earnest one.
...I just didn't think one of those things would be about Wooloo.
I’m glad Tim gave my city some love. Rather than everyone straight up going to “is this London” I’m from Newcastle btw.
Hearing Tim mention my hometown ‘Newcastle’ was like a gunshot in a library.
Never thought I'd hear the MNF theme as a backdrop for a Kotaku video.
I only wish Tim had a patreon, so I could financially bind myself to him.
He's one of the few people working as a games journalist that I believe would be hugely successful starting his own channel. Though, I don't mind that he works for Kotaku. They have quite a number of really talented people (Gita Jackson and Heather Alexandra) and the only hard-hitting games journalist in the business (Jason Schreier). I would be challenged to come up with a better list of journalists anywhere else. And no, I'm not a schill. I'm just genuinely impressed with Kotaku when looking at the competition.
HEXXEN WOLF he has another personal channel
@@paintfatpurple7394 yes but that's mostly vlogs and I am sorry but Tim was not made for vlogs although we do get approximately 100% more sexy sun spectacles.
I have good news from the future.
Give this man a medal, first reviewer to make these games sound halfway interesting
Wooloo: exist

Nuuuuuuuuu poor wooloo!!! 😭😭

TIM ROGERS HAS FINALLY DONE IT

God I love Tim Rogers so much
Bless You Tim Rogers. The plethora of content you have given us has truly kept my brain from meltdown mode due to unforeseen changes in my personal life.
I've been reading Kotaku for probably a decade+ but I just now started watching your videos. PLEASE make more, Tim. These are great.
Jacob Shapiro i’ve been writing for kotaku for literally 14 years lmao
also i’ve got a playlist with like 200 videos on it, so get watchin!!!
"Water makes grass grow, *NIMROD* "
funniest thing I've heard all year
Is this the same guy who did the legendary Dragonquest XI Review?
Edit: Just checked yep. 10/10 Review like always Tim.
Fantastic! Tim has done it again!
This one looks like theres a bit too much walking for me, I'll stick to Death Stranding.

@Unqiue Keys Yes, of course that was a joke mate. How would it be interpreted any other way?
Tim Rogers' voice is one step away from the narrator's in Neil Cicierega's Tom Hanks video.
Curry made from Wooloo fresh meat seems legit
There are lots of Pokemon types - fire, water, grass, and many others. But what are the human types? What are their weaknesses?
Most of them evolve into ghost types.
A human type Pokemon's weakness is the internet
Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny
Jynx's species is "Human-shape Pokemon"
Charlie Hunter doughnuts
I saw this video in my feed and said aloud to myself "I will *shit a brick* if Tim Rogers did this one, I will piss myself with excitement." And now I'm making all sorts of sounds of audible glee.
Pokemoners? Come on. It's the UK.
POKEMONGERS.
I wish more things could be monged, other than iron, fish and green. I want meatmongers, gamemongers & carmongers
YES! This. 10/10
"Yeehaw, pardner! Mosey on by the ranch!" - Man, i just love everything about your videos, Tim! Your way with words, your observations, your presentation style, your editing - its always a highlight of my internetular day when you post something new - anything! I'm not even into pocket mans, and i thoroughly enjoyed this short thing. If Nintendo gave you free reign, i know it would be a 2 hour bonanza of expertly written wittery!
PS - i love that you refered to our prime minister as "clown-like". I guess we're both in the same boat now, eh?
man at least you can vote your clown out of office whenever they do something really stupid, our clown gets to stick around for 4 years unless they somehow manage to piss off congress.
I know this game is set in England because it's the first one to spell Mum correctly
it's "mam" actually
Its mom
Scotland and England
This is probably the most accurate and true Pokemon Sword and Shield review thats out right now.
Frikachu is a good name.
I like how Tim names all his characters after his best friend just like I used to do 😅
Someone at Nintendo has a grand old time coming up with these restrictions.
You almost definitely weren't allowed to show the Milcery that was clearly visible in like every other shot in this video.
Wild Area is like a Dragon Quest game on the Dreamcast hjshjshs I-
"I bet his parents gave him a hamster once and told him it was a dog...and he believed them!"
I lost it at “Frikachu” lmfao omg 0:58
Pokémon saying their name was only in the anime, until they added it to the game just for pikachu.
I never understood why Charizard is only 5’7 and not at least 7’0
this is the best commentary ive heard in a while on youtube!
How is every Tim video such a banger
I had to skip the Death Stranding videos, so nice to watch a new Tim Rogers video!
Bro, I seriously love this guy! He’s awesome!
“Join the cross country team, cOWBoY”
I like it when Tim calls people cowboys or space cowboys in his deeeeeep voice.
Or NINFRIEND-O, NIMROD, PARDNER, etc 😂
I need to know Tim's music playlist for making videos, all the music he uses are incredible!
I am absolutely adding "Yeehaw, pardner! Mosey on by the ranch!" to my everyday lexicon.
All right new Tim Video! I'm gonna order a phat pizza slice and bunker on down with myself, while'st munching down on it. I was born dumb, but I will figure out how to feed myself. Video games for now. RUclips.com/kotaku
Samurai Flex i had a great tim reading this comment.
This is just a shorter, worse version of the other Pokemon video. I love it!
"nimrod" isn't much of a brittishism imo, you could have gone with "duffer" or "divvy". but then what do i know? i'm a massive div!
that's true, though nimrod *is* a me-ism . . . lol
I love how the wooloos have like an authoritarian grip on the Galar region, like literally everyone is too obsessed with how cute they are to wake them.
Me after seeing thumbnail: oh cool a new pokemon video from kotaku
Me after clicking video: OMFG IT'S BY TIM FRIGGIN ROGERS!!!!!
looking at this game just makes me think that the pokemon in 20 years time are gonna be everything you ever wished for in a pokemon game
I've heard all sorts of negativity surrounding this game, but it *genuinely* seems like everything I wanted from a console Pokemon game! #thankyougamefreak
Less pokemon, tons of bugs and loading issues, data corruption, lack of features that were in previous games, boring story, boring characters, reused animations, evidence that Game Freak lied, no aftergame, less content than Ultra Sun and Moon, and cost way too much. Need I say more?
@@notch6801
First off, it's "fewer Pokemon," not "less Pokemon." Second, the Pokedex cuts don't affect anything until postgame, as access to the national dex only unlocks in postgame (this is true for all of the mainline Pokemon games up to this point). Cutting Pokemon was an inevitability, as with 1000+ Pokemon, 250+ abilities, and almost 800 moves, it is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to balance the game. Some gamebreaking combo or other would certainly arise and destroy the competitive scene.
As for bugs and loading issues, this hasn't been a complaint raised by any of the professional reviewers I've read/watched - including the Kotaku review and preview, the IGN review, the Gameinformer review, and the Gamespot review. I'm certain that if a game was actually filled with technical issues, the 5 professional reviewers I just listed, each of whom spent around 40 hours on the game, would have noticed them. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, on the other hand, had significantly more bugs than a normal Pokemon game (due to development being handed off to less experienced devs), and yet there was no controversy over them.
As for data corruption, www.polygon.com/pokemon/2019/11/15/20966487/pokemon-sword-shield-save-file-corruption-nintendo-switch-exfat-sd-card Note the “It’s more of an operating system failure than a game failure," as well as the note that formatting your SD card as FAT32 (which is already what most SD cards are formatted as) solves the issue.
As for lack of pre-established features, that is factually incorrect. Sword and Shield added a ton of quality-of-life improvements, and only removed the ability to turn off the EXP Share (which, if people on the internet were actually civil for once, would've been a quick fix via a patch. Instead, we have riots).
The story has never really been something people play Pokemon for, with the sole exception of Black/White. Heartgold/Soulsilver are universally held to be amazing Pokemon games, but the story is bog-standard.
Reused animations is the one point on which I will agree with you. However, while some of the move animations in a battle are pretty mediocre (double-kick, for example), there animations for the more epic moves look pretty awesome this generation.
"Evidence that Gamefreak lied" is, once again, not correct. Gamefreak cited 3D models as one of the reasons for not including the whole dex, but some interviews showed them being most concerned about balancing (as I mentioned earlier). The vast majority of Pokemon models were not ported over from Sun/Moon, contrary to popular belief. Only some were. They never said they'd rebuild all the models.
"No postgame" is the most blatant lie in your original post. There, quite literally, is a postgame. I don't know how else I can refute your point here.
"Less content than US/UM" is also incorrect, with US/UM sitting at an average of 34 hours on howlongtobeat.com, while reviewers of Sword and Shield spent around 40 hours (it should be noted that reviewers are often on a tight schedule and have to rush their playthroughs).
Costing more than previous games is a reality of a handheld series making it over to console. When Link to the Past was released on Switch for $60, people were fine with it. When Smash 4 was released simultaneously on 3DS and WiiU, it was $20 more on WiiU, despite having almost the same content. And yet people were fine with it. It's simply unreasonable to expect a console game to be any less than $60 at launch, especially on a Nintendo console.
As such, I have disproven every single one of your points. You really do need to say more.
A 10 min Tim video?! Super effective
Hello, and Welcome back to Video Hsmes
Holy crap, Kotaku with accurate content, or just here to fan the flames?
Yes.
Grand Turismo the racing game, or Gran Turismo the Clint Eastwood movie?
Goddamn it 😂 I knew just by the thumbnail alone that this was a Tim video
I’m so interested in all of the tiny details that differ between the dialects. I read “see you at mine” normally, but I only just realised how weird this is for an American to say.
I dont know if this the typical way you review games...but i like it... 10/10 review.
Wooloo the review
Reviewloo.
I can't decide which is sadder. the fact that someone got paid to make this or the fact that i watched the whole damn thing.
1:36 hasn't been announced officially ahaa
I wonder how long it would take for a Tim Rogers channel to overtake Kotaku for subs?
Didn’t know this man or woman existed until today. I liked and subscribed solely because of them. Yeah let’s say them I don’t want to offend anyone.
Anyway I laughed, I cried, and more importantly I was able to finish the grilled cheese sandwich I had made.
I guess if I had one complaint it be that I’m deaf and really had no idea what on earth was being said. So there’s that. All and all though I’m rambling and have no way to end this.
I LOVE YOU MOM!
Galar is clearly based on the UK as a whole, not just England... And trying to shoe hard politics into a Nintendo game, this is my first Kotaku video as likely my last.
Tim Rogers for RUclips rewind 2020!
We really need a Regúan spin-off 😭
11 minutes? Why is this not an hour long?
i believe the explanation happens in the first minute or so . . . and there MIGHT be a 30-minute video coming, once the embargo lifts . . . if i SURVIVE until then
01:37 pretty sure that unevolved Pokemon is also not officially out to public yet lol
yeah though like you get it right in the grass outside the first town lol
This is just a guess, but is the evolved pokemon Dreadnaw? It would be odd for a single-stage or unevolved pokemon to have a gigantamax form.
Also was that an unevolved corviknight?
@@vbarreiro I'm guessing it's either Coriknight's starting evolution, because it's this games Pidgy or it's...no wait it'll just be Corviknight's unevolved form, I was gonna say it was Far'fetched mid evo form but he'd be able to show Far'Fetched and I'm guessing you won't be able to just get it's second evo form until much later.
My main question- is sword and shield gonna have a some challenge to it like the older games or is it gonna be a joke like Sun/moon where I’m basically watching a movie and not a single trainer actually threatens me?
I just stumbled upon this video. I don't know who the heck this is, but this boi had me engaged and laughing.
Monday Night Tim Rogersball
Simply the best review of Sword and Sheild.
As a Brit, this video gave me LIFE! I'm so excited for this game
Tim, you are the best! At what I don't know, your just the best.
A quick correction. Every time you say England, you should say Britain. I mean the main exclusives are a Unicorn and a leek weilding knight, duck are clearly based on some national stuff from Scotland and Wales.

The review I was waiting for
I had to try so hard to not laugh during this entire video. That's what I get for watching this at work XD
I proud of us for you existing
This is the Tim Rogers of Pokemon reviews.
Isn't the proper answer to Nintendo's asinine list of restrictions to just say "We'll not make a video then" ?
Still waiting on that self-aware "Wokemon" game that has at least one character question the morality pitting everyone's pets in death matches against each other.
Think you might be talking about Pokémon Black and Pokémon White
Paul Thorn They had that already. That was called Pokémon Black Version and White Version.
@@bourbonbobo Good to know! Never played that one.
@@paulthorn6437 you you never played the best pokemon games black and black 2?

I can only show 31 Pokémon, but let me just show a little bird we haven't seen before while I catch this other Pokémon
I would listen to Tim Rogers review a phone book. For the kids out there, that's not the folded leaflet of poorly written instructions in your new cell phone box, it's a literal book with phone numbers in it, and I would listen to Tim Rogers review it.
My Charmander is bigger than that stunted thing you tried to pass off as a Charizard.
