I remember being so thrilled that Simon Baker and Sanaa Lathan did this movie together. Both such phenomenal actors and their chemistry was amazing. It was so believable and heartfelt.

Then you’ll appreciate a Oprah interview they did about the movie. The studio audience (in unison said, “…aaawwhhh…” when they found out that Simone was married in real life. It was one of those hallmark moments, because they were not “Qued” to do that.

I have seen this movie over a dozen times. It is one of the best rom-coms ever made.

Kenya is driven. She also does what is expected of her. She sees herself with an equally driven and successful black man. Brian is a free thinker. He isn't bound by convention. Kenya later discovers that what she wants isn't what she needs. She needs an adventure. She needs Brian. (BTW, scientifically speaking, there is only one race - human.)

This movie was kind of odd. I remember watching it but at the same time it feels like a lifetime
Why did you think it was odd? Did you find the characters a mismatch? I thought the script was quite lacking.
It felt like there were a lot of slow scenes that would just happen, then it ends, then another scene would happen.
@@chasehedges6775 I see what you mean. Its like they cuts out too many scenes. They didnt give these two enough scenes to establish any kind of bond to where Kenya felt she is meant to be with him.
Also the black tax stuff was overdone.
It was just a bit meh.

He had to bring her out of her shell and do to much work for her to be herself. She should have already known who she was. He could have found a black girl who already liked the things he liked. Sometimes this is the root problem with relationships. Find somone who already ticks at least most of the boxes.
