When I heard this song, I was a senior in high school back in the day... How time flies by so quickly... It's a shame he's no longer here.. I sincerely hope his family is okay.... This is one song I could never find on 45... I think I have it on cassette... This song is very deep with a strong message and meaning..... They don't play music like that anymore.......
Sounds very different than every version I heard before, I didnt expected violin Orchestra of something like that ! Absolutely beautiful ! Dance, Cry, of simply get high !
"The Thrill Is Gone" may be an epitaph song for those performers who passed away each year. In 2015, those would include B.B. King, Ben E. King, Lynn Anderson, Jim Ed Brown, Percy Sledge, Andy White, Gary Richrath, Jimmy Dickens, Cilla Black, Lesley Gore, James Horner, Cory Wells, Jimmy Greenspoon, and some lesser-known artists who may be searched for their obituaries if desired. May they shine on in that great music venue in the sky.
+marie Hiam I forgot to note Chris Squire of Yes who also passed away in 2015. That's a lot of major musical performers from all sorts of genres we said goodbye to. And there were others less noted, as previously remarked.
+Charles Wagner In 2016 so far, the thrill is gone for these dearly departed artists: among them, David Bowie, Natalie Cole, Maurice White, and Sonny James. There will be others who will bite the dust this year, and the thrill will be gone for them as well. Stay tuned.
+Charles Wagner The thrill is gone for these recently deceased artists: Patty Duke, Leon Haywood, Merle Haggard (Leon and Merle both passed away the same day), Prince, and most recently Billy Paul. We're losing more artists this year than you can imagine. Another post soon.
That album you spoke of, it wouldn't be the best of the Blues would it? My parents bought that album back in 81. It had Bobby Blue Bland, OV Wright, Johnny Ace among others! I still have it...
All copies of Mr. King's version on 45, including reissues, miscredited the writing. This was a radical rearrangement of the 1951 Roy Hawkins/Rick Darnell composition, originally recorded that year by Mr. Hawkins; Art Benson and Dale Pettite's number was an entirely different one, "The Thrill Is Gone (From Yesterday's Kiss)," written in 1957 and recorded by Corky Corcoran on Benson's Celestial label (of which Grosvenor House Music was the publishing arm). Only King's live version with Bobby "Blue" Bland from 1976 got the writing of this right (and the publishing - Modern Music Pub. Co., BMI). ABC's copyright department really loused up and messed up on this one, big-time.
all right, very funny!! you're riot spencer. O.K, you posted this song cause, my 49er's lost. you won this time but, there with be another day!!!!!!! good song by the way. BYE-BYE.

I was only 12 when this song first came out. It's still a classic nearly 49 years later!
the blues is meant to be played on vinyl
I can't believe anybody gave it a thumbs down!
The original mono recordings sound so much more musical , more juice in them .
B.B. King, the MASTER Bluesman.
❤️ the strings
the blues is meant to have a few in you and played on vinyl
a few jazz cigarettes.
You can hear all the difference in the world in this cut vs. stereo CD FM radio or mix...... this is definitely the money mix....

It was B.B. King's biggest hit single. I forget where it peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but it was in the Top 20 in early 1970.
