What happened? Feige seems to have forgotten that the Infinity Saga was a linear narrative, one chapter after the next. Phase 4 and 5 lacks that narrative cohesion, and that results in content that gets made just for the sake of making it.

2:22 _WandaVision_ also had wildly differing episode lengths. But at least there was logic behind having such varied episode lengths. The first three episodes are shorter because they're emulating the sitcoms Wanda grew up watching as a child, which all were never longer than 30 minutes. The last two episodes, meanwhile, were 45 minutes long, which was very crucial to giving the extended flashbacks into Wanda's past the time to breathe.

I think Secret Invasion could've been a good sub plot to the overarching Kang Saga. They could've split it into 2 seasons, first season running for the beginning of Phase 4 with it ending with Skrullss being outed and a sense of distrust amongst everyone. Projects spanning until Phase 6 could feature a couple of heroes in each, distrusting one another and even some ending up as Skrulls or even a handful of Super Skrulls. Ending with a second season of Secret Invasion taking place right about the time of Avengers Secret Wars that wraps up the story but leaving in implications for Secret Wars and Kang Dynasty. I think the mistake they made with this Saga is wanting to start right out of the gate with Kang leaving them with confusing storylines and an uncertainty on where stories are to go

Imo less is more in this case. I'm obsessed with how intimate the story feels, how it feels like a slice of the Marvel universe instead of something familiar. Nick felt truly desperate to gamble it all on doing it his way once again, which is usually fine but he came too close to the sun metaphorically so he goes literally next with Saber. It's more interesting to me to see DODC act after this. The Marvels, the Skrulls, the Incursions, they're gonna be so pissed now lol. I would have loved a scene where someone from DODC is like wtf is a Skrull anyway??? And they shift for them to prove they can be trusted.

Issue to me seems to be that they often drastically rewrite and reshoot all these shows near the end of the shooting or ever after. That feels like an environment wherein telling a good story is difficult.

Even if that mainly applies to comics fans, a zillion articles were written about the show before its release, and many talked about the comic storyline. So viewers didn’t get what they were hoping for, based on the title.
They should have named it something else, to help lower expectations. Since it’s about aliens, conspiracies, government agents and a central couple, call it “Mulder and Skrully”, for all I care! Just don’t have me expecting “Secret Invasion”!

This entire series honestly should have been episode 1 and the other 5 episodes dealing with the fallout of Gravik’s failed plan. Especially since they’re not doing a season 2. Now we have to piece the aftermath together from whatever nods the other titles give us. Sloppy and unfulfilling should never the goal!!

It would also have been really interesting to see how many, if any, ended up realigning with Fury and the other Humans…They could have gotten really deep with it and gone so far as to have different groups of Skrulls working with different countries all infiltrating each other and causing real, societal problems rather than just sneakily trying to nuke the world from the shadows…that trope is so played out these days, especially in the MCU..

Also, an injury like that requires check-ups, maybe it was there (and after being promoted to Presi's Best Friendo) that Gravik ordered Raava to take his place. At least, it sounds more strategic than "oh cool, an Avenger is in the hospital, let's take its place for the lulz, maybe we can use it later". My issue with writers using multiverse, time travel, and in this case, secret invasion-type in their story is that it is not a challenge. There is always a way to explain away part or even all of it by saying it was not part of the main story. Without story constraint, having to follow through with the storyline even if it was not received well, there is no stake in the game. It's like playing a game and resetting it every time you lose but you keep using the same strategy.

The phrase "you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" fits so well with the MCU. If it had ended with Endgame it would have gone down as an incredible achievement. Now it's just destroyed its own legacy. Disney couldn't just end it because it made them so much money. It's quite similar to the original Star Wars trilogy and the prequels.
It happens to so many franchises: Star Wars, Terminator, The Matrix, Indiana Jones, Lord Of The Rings, Pirates Of The Carribbean, BBC's Sherlock and I'm sure there are more. You have to admire the ones that know when to call it quits like Back To The Future and Uncharted with Nathan Drake.
