Thanks, Disney. I really loved learning that the only reason Nick Fury became Director of SHIELD was by taking the work of displaced refugees and passing it off as his own.

Nick Fury has been reduced to nothing but a buffoon who made friends with some shape shifting aliens who effectively operated as their puppet and was utterly clueless without their help, and lost his eye because he was petting a cat. Why. Why Disney? And this is one of the rare instances where they didn't even do it for real world political reasons. Disney is just so incompetent that they've taken an Avengers level character and made him a nobody.

Imagine having every espionage and alien invasion writer dream of having shapeshifting enemies who can retain recent memories of their victims, $200 million, an interconnected series with dozens of already known and liked characters, source material, and Samuel L. Jackson, and still not satisfying either espionage or alien invasion viewers or just any viewer in general.

"So this TV show can happen."
"Wouldn't it be more compelling if she did find a planet and the radical Skrulls wished to stay on Earth to maintain their powerful positions in human society rather than restart on a new planet, leaving Fury to contemplate how giving these victims the exact skills and abilities to undermine his authority and all authority in the world, which they're now turning back on him so that they'd never feel powerless again because even a human exploited them for his own war, all for his own selfish ends, might be his fault?"

I don't know why Disney has this obsession with making every single MCU show 6 episodes long, but this storyline should have honestly been close to 15-20 episodes if they wanted to do it right. But it's clear from the paltry scripts and everything else that they had zero intention of doing it right. Or maybe they did, but Disney just micromanaged their ideas into oblivion and wrenched away all the passion and creativity from it. To me the biggest problem was the *kind* of spy show they decided to make it. Instead of having it be about spy skrulls who infiltrate Earth, they made it about *human* spies trying to stop the skrull plans.
If we'd had to figure out who the skrulls were, it would've been a very different show, but other than Rhoadie, all of the skrulls are pretty much instantly revealed. As you said, even the first skrull reveal wasn't really a surprise.
And trying to get the US and the Russians to fight each other by lying to the president is a dumb plan. If you can get that close to the president, just *become* the president, and do it yourself. Once the missiles are launched, it's all automatic anyway. Russia isn't going to ask questions before retaliating.
I still think She-Hulk was a worse show, but that's a very low bar.

I find it so funny that peacemaker did the “secret invasion” idea better, the alien invasion is not only important to the story but it gives you a edge while watching the show, it’s terrifying the idea that the character you like could be replaced there and, as the aliens make sense in their internal logic, they convince us that they could conquer the world.

One thing I have found disappointing with Marvel generally is that they are really wasteful with their story material. "Age" of Ultron, Civil War, Secret Invasion, all these should really have been themes that occupied at least a couple of movies, if not an entire phase each, instead of specific series and movies. What they did with Thanos, but with each of those themes attached instead. Instead "Civil War" was a minor scuffle in an airport, the "Age of Ultron" barely got started in the first place and "Secret Invasion" was anything but secret.

Hey ChatGPT! Let's make a Marvel series called Secret Invasion with 3 seasons where the main protagonist is Nick Fury and it adapts the Marvel comics Secret Invasion, but in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's a spy/ action thriller where skrulls came to earth as refugees from a kree x skrull war and captain marvel helped them to defeat the kree villains. Now captain marvel is on her duty in space and the skrulls are living disguised as humans. After thanos snap, earth population, got wiped and during this period more skrulls came secretly to earth filling spaces of power in society. Other character that might appear are: Thalos (old skrull general), Gaya (Thalos daughter), Maria Hill, Everett Ross, Thunderbolt Ross, James Rhodes, US President. Depicted Locations: US, Russia, London.
For narrative purposes keep most of the plans of the skrulls as a secret and try to play with the mistery of a close character being a skrull or an ally being a double agent, feel free to make major secrets being revealed at the end of each season.
Remember, Thalos is in friends with Nick Fury at the end of Captain Marvel and they developed a partnership.
First season must hint a secretive plan that Thalos is not in command, but needs fury's help to figure out how to stop.

      Title: Secret Invasion
Season One: The Shape of Deception
      Plot Overview:
After the devastating events of the Thanos snap and the subsequent return of billions of people, Earth is struggling to rebuild. Nick Fury, who was operating from the shadows during this period, reunites with Maria Hill and Everett Ross to re-establish S.H.I.E.L.D. Meanwhile, the Skrulls who had sought refuge on Earth after the Kree-Skrull war are living in disguise among the humans. Captain Marvel is away on her cosmic duty, leaving Nick Fury as one of the few who knows about the Skrulls' presence.
      Hints of a Secretive Plan:
Episode 1 starts with a mysterious incident where a powerful government official is replaced by a Skrull, leading to concerns about the extent of their infiltration.
Throughout the season, there are subtle hints that Thalos, the Skrull leader, is not in complete control of the situation. He contacts Nick Fury for help, acknowledging that there is a faction within the Skrulls working against him.
Maria Hill and Everett Ross discover that high-ranking officials in multiple countries are acting oddly, raising suspicions of Skrull involvement in their governments.
Thalos provides Nick Fury with some vital information about the double agents but emphasizes that the full extent of the infiltration is unknown, hinting at an even greater conspiracy.
      Character Developments:
Thalos and Nick Fury's partnership grows, and they develop a deeper understanding of each other's motivations. Thalos reveals that his daughter Gaya is crucial to stopping the rogue Skrull faction, but her whereabouts are unknown.
James Rhodes plays a significant role in assisting Nick Fury, but he becomes suspicious of one of his close allies, adding an element of doubt and mystery.
The US President, initially seen as an ally, may exhibit suspicious behavior throughout the season, raising doubts about their true identity.
      Themes and Tones:
Themes of deception, trust, and identity are explored, with characters unsure who to trust as the Skrulls' secret agenda is revealed.
The season maintains a spy thriller tone with intense action sequences, uncovering double agents, and engaging in thrilling chases and battles.
Major Secret Revealed at the End of Season One:
In the season finale, it is revealed that Gaya, Thalos' daughter, is not only alive but has been leading the rogue Skrull faction. She believes that the Skrulls must take over Earth to ensure their survival and security in the wake of the Kree-Skrull war and the devastating effects of Thanos' snap. Gaya has manipulated key human figures into positions of power and influence, all while remaining undercover. This revelation sets the stage for a tense and personal confrontation between Nick Fury and Gaya in Season Two.
Stay tuned for Season Two: Secret Invasion - The Web of Betrayal.

I like how one of the main criticism of any MCU is like "You know I liked the idea and the concept until it turned into an MCU movie".
Like I had the same problem with Wandavision. interesting concept, nice way to explore both the personality and Wanda's character but then they had to put the twist bad guy and the flying battle with energy blasts, and try to jump the shark as well as having to set up dumb stuff for sequels. like, leave it as a drama with weird visuals where the main bad guy is the protagonist herself. It didn't need Agatha, White Vision, the Darkhold.

I feel like Phase 4 should have been all about the Skrulls. Introducing them at the end of Phase 3 with Captain Marvel and Far From Home, with each Phase 4 Movie having a Post Credit scene that could relate to them, like imagine if No Way Home ended with it being revealed that J Jonah Jameson was actually a Skrull or something. By the end they could make a like "Avengers: Secret Invasion", which would lead to the defeat of the Skrulls, but with the status quo being changed, the people of Earth being aware of the existance of Skrulls and being paranoid, which could be a perfect segway into the Multiverse/Kang Saga, with him slowly amassing an army or pulling the strings into separating the heroes so they are easier to conquer (Thus the name Kang the Conqueror), and then you end with Secret Wars where all that setup pays off.
Its not perfect by any means but it just baffles me that Secret Invasion, a large scale and status quo changing event was religated to only 6 Episodes, without even an appearance of some Main heroes and Avengers.

I think my favoite part of this all is how they initially tried to subvert expectations in Captain Marvel by having the Skrull turn out to be innocent refugees instead of conniving planet invaders.
But, because they had absolutely no foresight when making Captain Marvel, they clearly realized far too late how much storytelling potential was wasted by that choice. So they had to hastily and haphazardly come up with a reason for the Skrull to go _back_ to being conniving planet invaders, leading to this mess.

Honestly. This Show could’ve benefitted from two Major Factors that have been super ignored these past several years.
1.) Agents of SHIELD! I’m going to finally touch upon this! Because it is a GODDAMN Shame that NONE of the Characters from “Agents of SHIELD” haven’t made a Diseny+ or big screen appearance. That Show is Absolutely Wild and I do recommend watching all the episodes going into Seasons 2,3, 4, 5, & 6!
Just damn good surprises, especially with the WMD & Agents of HYDRA Arc that takes a few pages from the Skroll handbook on who’s who.
I won’t say the show is perfect, but the Directors and actors knew how to make a superhero Spy series work.
2.) The Russo Brothers! I get their not TV directors! But they know how to Do Cinematic Spy Mercenary Plots well! And it’s a major shame that they weren’t brought in or at least ASKED about what needed to be brought to the discussion table in regards to this short TV series!
For an Additional comment. I would like to point out how Crazy it would be to Bring Agent’s of SHIELD into the 616 Universe again! I don’t care if Joss Whedon is still looked down upon! The dude can at least give us a decent story if we’re focusing on the widing the scope and theme of the multiverse!

This reminds me of another invasion plot that happened in WWE, basically Vince Mcmahon, owner of WWE bought WCW, their main competition in 2001, potentially allowing major WCW wrestlers to FINALLY appear in WWE and when it got teased in WWE RAW, the excitement was through the roof, with hundreds of potential dream matches between the likes of Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold, The Rock, Sting, etc. But, turns out the WWE couldn't afford to buyout the contract's of the WCW wrestlers and we ended up getting another storyline about the Mcmahon family fighting each other.
