Kenobi is the best representation of “we’re just going to use the name and actors to sell the show and not put much work into the writing and make our money there”

    • @SupercutsDelight

It's also because Disney Execs panicked when the show was initially too dark in pre-production so they hired Joby Harold (writer of Army of the Dead) to do re-writes. “We’re looking, ultimately, to make a hopeful, uplifting story,” said Kennedy. So the fact that they didn't trust the original vision of the creative team makes me very upset and I'm not surprised with what we ended up getting. And it's also not a coincidence that I made a Devoid of Logic video on Army of the Dead too lol.

@@SupercutsDelight I saw the red flags once it was made into a tv show and when production got canceled in January 2020 because Kathleen Kennedy didn’t like the writing because of how similar it was to the mandolorian so yea, they learned the hard way AGAIN by not having a plan, I mean they could’ve used the novels but I think they don’t even know those existed, I mean Kennedy did say it herself which made me very upset and wish she wasn’t in charge of Lucasfilm because it’s clear she doesn’t know what to do.

I think the issues are more glaring with returning characters.
Mando suffers from a lot of the same issues on a writing level as the rest of Disney Star Wars, but the freshness of the concept & the show's relatively unique style distracts from them.
Mando has the best optics, which gave hope at a glance that things might be improving, but further scrutiny reveals the same litany of issues standard in Disney Star Wars (minus the more obvious, offensive issues of the ST).
With Kenobi & Boba, though, they couldn't even give the illusion of quality. The production values were beyond cheap & both shows seemed phonic of their titular character.

The message literally only said "the boy" and "Tatooine" and then she immediately knew who it was talking about. I think there is more than just one ten-year-old boy on Tatooine. And also: Why did she want to kill Luke in the first place? I may have missed something there but it felt really out of nowhere tbh.
Then there is also the absolute travesty that is Tala and her shenanigans during the infiltration of the Inquisitor fort. While she is talking to Obi-Wan and giving him directions there are about 5 other people are sitting right next to her (and one of them even looks at her with a confused look as a gag but doesn't actually do anything about it)
Then she later knocks a guy out ten feet from the other officers and they still don't react to it.

To point 2, there's another plot hole there. Bail in his transmission says "if he's found you, if he's learned of the children" when Bail shouldn't know who Vader is yet, or that Anakin is alive, just like Obi Wan at the beginning of the show. Seeing as we haven't seen him and Obi Wan communicate at any other point in the show, he probably wouldn't even know that the Empire was involved in kidnapping his daughter yet.
And obviously that leads to the massive plot hole of the Organa's being implicated as traitors to the Empire. Which ruins the ANH confrontation between Vader and Leia, which now should've gone like this: "Hey, your family is friends with Obi Wan. I know this because of that one time when one of my inquisitors kidnapped you, and I almost killed you when I force pulled a transport ship I thought you were in with Obi Wan and ripped a hole in the side of it. The writers just think the force makes you have abilities "that some consider to be unnnatural" and nobody would question it because everything is just the force. One show/movie will have you thinking that something is special only for another character to use it sparingly and nonchalantly. It's like the Rey healing power when they meet that serpent underground when she finds the dagger. Imagine seeing that and then looking back at the prequels seeing Jedi masters with more experience being a Jedi than her not even having it or talking about it. For something like that to be introduced I would expect someone with great power and knowledge to be able to use it and then could teach it. Everything is inherited now.

I thought you were gonna talk about Obi Wan sparing Vader. That seemed pretty devoid of logic. Specially since he ACCEPTS the fact that his friend is gone, and only a Sith remains. Ok so then, are you gonna leave him be? Not even try to capture or subdue him at least? In a previous scene he even says: "either he dies or I die", so he had the intention to KILL him even when he thought he was still Anakin. Obi Wan is now responsible for thousands of additional deaths.
Of course I know that none of that could have happened due to continuity with Episode IV. But of all the excuses they could have thought to prevent Obi Wan from killing Vader (Inquisitors arriving to help, Kenobi sensing Luke was in danger, Vader actually winning) they went with the worse one, sparing him just because. And the "goodbye, Darth" was cringe and a lame way to connect it with the nonsense of calling him Darth in the older movies.

    • @aesir1ases64

Kind of agree, the fight was pretty good and emotional for the most part, I actually think the "Goodbye Darth" was good and explain why Kenobi says "You cant win DARTH" in episode 4 after calling him Vader previously to Luke.
BUT I do agree that they set up this to be Obi Wan on a mission to finish business and when he makes his mind up that Anakin was dead, he should be able to kill him off but still doesnt. My head canon is because he actually could not kill him off because I think deep down (subcounsciouly maybe) he could not separate Anakin from Vader, and he could never literally kill someone that was like a little brother to him. Now thats the best explaining I could come up with, but I do agree that the other scenarios you pointed out woud be better options as story telling.
And Obi Wan always was the most responsable man from all the tragedy that happened with not only Anakin but also the fall of the Republic, the purge of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire, there was nothing new in regards to that, I actually wanted this series to dig deeper in this psychological aspect and how he dealed with that, we kind of had a little bit but I thought this should have been the focus of the series.

It is at least somewhat consistent with the prequel trilogy when Obi Wan didn't finish off Anakin on Mustafar to ensure he was dead, and you can chalk it up to "it's not the jedi way". While the ST went over the top with it, she's still force sensitive in the OT, he could've popped in to say hi, providing advice and encouragement.
The very fact it's Obi-Wan and only him who comes to rescue Leia, breaks the canon. The Empire know he came to help her and since Bail told no one else as he kept it quiet, then only he could've told Obi-Wan.
Therefore, Bail has incriminated himself and would be arrested for treason. They'd torture him for info and learn about Obi-Wan, Yoda, Leia and Luke. Because of this, the OT shouldn't happen, otherwise the Empire, including the Emperor, Vader, the inquisitors and other officers are all idiots.

In a New Hope Tarkin had bugged the falcon to follow Vader's plan. The troopers pursuing Luke, Han and Leah would have been instructed not to hit them as immediately followed by the comment upon their escape "I'm taking an awefuly big risk".
The scene in the fortress could have been used as a call back to this.. instead of it not deciding what it wanted to do and highlighting again, the poor writing.

Another thing: Canon material has made it explicitly clear that Darth Vader is both the best saber duelist and most powerful force user in the galaxy. Force Awakens guide says Kylo Ren has the blood of the "most powerful Jedi and Sith", Jedi Fallen Order calls Vader "The most powerful Sith in the galaxy", Palpatine calls Vader's powers "unparalled" in the Tarkin novel, the Star Wars Everything You Need To Know book says Vader is the best red saber duelist, etc. We also see Vader walk through lava and fight with his suit deactivated in the comics. But not only does Vader refuse to walk through fire, but Vader loses to Obi-Wan, and the Emperor says his feelings for his master left him weakened (AKA the age old excuse for Vader losing to opponents less powerful to him). But Vader has shown nothing but hatred for him and hatred is supposed to fuel the dark side. What's up with that?

I wasn't expecting it to play out like that. I thought Obi Wan would've had a few tricks up his sleeve to deal with Vader's brute strength (after all, he chose the planet and had time to prepare) and after being relentlessly attacked and beaten down, he'd be able to compromise his suit or momentarily stun him.
Queue a bit of dialogue where Obi Wan tells him he's "still the learner" when he suddenly senses Luke is in danger. Obi Wan flees and Vader becomes enraged and pursues him only to discover that Obi Wan has sabotaged the engine on his ship (maybe have Obi Wan stall at the start of the fight by talking and have him suspiciously walk by Vader's ship during the exchange). At the end we'd realise Obi Wan never wanted to fight to the death and always intended to to escape.
It would've recalled their sparring match too, with Vader being obsessed with overpowering his opponent and Obi Wan seeing the bigger picture.

Vader had nothing to do with the Death Star, that was Director's Krennic's project and was taken over my Tarken. After this point in the series Vader focused less on hunting Jedi, leaving that to the inquisitors, and more on fighting the rebels. The Jedi do not kill their enemies especially when they are disabled. They have an almost fatalistic belief in the will of the Force that it will sort everything out in the end. Which it does.

    @TheBrickBoyo Год назад +9

Totally agree with pretty much every point here. I enjoyed the show but it's extremely flawed and not up to the standard Star Wars as a franchise deserves. With that said, three things I'd like to defend would be
    1. at 9:10 , just because her mind couldn't be read doesn't necessarily mean she MUST be force sensitive. The internal logic behind mind reading is that it only works on weak minds (like Stormtroopers) so it's fair to not immediately assume she's force sensitive based on this. Watto resisted Qui-Gonns mind tricks in Episode 1, and Cad Bane required three to break him in The Clone Wars
    2. at 4:10 , I don't think she was actually stabbed in the same spot as a Youngling. I interpreted it as her seeing herself as that helpless child again facing the wrath of Vader. I feel like they made it from her POV for this reason, but I very well could be wrong.
    3. at 5:29 , it's said in Episode 1 that a Jedi has an insatiable desire to help, and their great flaw is that they can't ignore an innocent person in need (or something like that). Vader terrorizing the village was Vader trying to lure Kenobi out using the same tactic, and it seemed to work. If Kenobi was so confident that Leia would get to safety/back to Alderaan through the tunnel, I find it pretty believable that he'd wait behind knowing what's happening because of him.

How do so many people miss that in ANH the Empire are letting them leave, in order to find the base on Yavin IV??????
It's literally bashed over our heads twice in the film, by Leia and Tarkin!
In ESB, the Empire are fine on Hoth and throughout the chase with the Falcon. it's only at Bespin that they falter a bit.
Then in ROTJ has them beat by Teddy Bears... which can anyone seriously tell me they liked that outcome from a tactical point of view?
Since then it was a MEME for years that Stormtroopers were bad shots, but Disney has taken this as fact and took the most common enemy the heroes face... and turned them into a joke. It's laughable that anyone has to try and fight Stormtroopers when you can just slap them and it's over.
