    Sir, you are a legitimate dude!! This video was EXACTLY what I needed. My head was spinning with ideas of having to sew together a ripstop fabric tent for my project, it never even occurred to me to use a full tarp sheet like this. I have converted the floor of a SWB Transit Connect van to pull out to the extreme length of the open barn doors (with another panel that then flips up to create an enclosed space. Now, with your great advice I can cover the back and have myself a nice little micro-camper. Thank you.

    Dude.
    1. I never thought of opening up my tailgate and adding that to the usable space. Brilliant.
    2. That adhesive zipper. What rock have I been living under? Never knew those existed!! That's a tarp truck camping game changer!
    This video is exactly what I'm trying to do. Only difference is I've built my frame out of scrap 2x4, just because. Everything else is applicable to what I'm wanting to do, especially shaping the tent to fit around the frame I made. I'm so glad you made this video to show how you did that.

    Great idea. Enough to get out of weather. Like any other tent wind may play havoc on you but with extra tape can fix on the fly.
    Thanks for sharing about the zipper; makes it easier to enter.

    Ok this is a pretty great build! A couple suggestions maybe purchase a black or white tarp so your tape matches your tarp. I believe gorilla tape comes in white too. A camouflage tarp with black tape would also look a little less tarpy. If your stick it together with small pieces of tape you can remove it from the truck and use long pieces to make it more uniform. That being said this is quite possibly the best diy truck video I have seen.
    One thing also you should go on cad and make a pattern for the tent and make it a Available to your patrons or something because it’s really good.
    I liked and subscribed 😎 keep up the good work!

    This is an excellent simple build. I've been camping in a regular tent in the bed of my truck and want to upgrade a bit. So im debating on a soft top or a homemade soft top, both are essentially more sturdy tents so it doesn't really matter if its home made or not IMO. A hard topper would be ideal but way too expensive. Anyway these are some great ideas an techniques, great job

    Since it's been 2 years since this was posted, I'm guessing you have discovered what a flawed design this was. If not, then you likely haven't used it in any kind of serious rain. There is a reason why every commercially-made tent ever built has a steeply sloped top, typically either an a-frame or some kind of dome design. Same reason nearly all homes have steep roofs. The last thing you want in any kind of shelter is a roof that allows for the collection of water. What you made here was essentially a giant bird bath waiting to be filled.

    • @lukeshaia
      @lukeshaia  7 месяцев назад +1

      Interesting take, but I’d still choose this over a couple thousand dollar tent if I just needed something quick and easy in good weather conditions. Not everyone goes camping in snow, rain or “bad” conditions. Which is what is was designed for.
