I have a 66" bed but have a 75" milliard tri-fold mattress. I put a folddown extention with fold down legs to end on bed frame.. Couple this with a DAC truck tent and lots of room.
Great video - So simple; but, elegant in design. Easy to remove too so you can use your truck if needed. The treaded inserts are a great idea to take apart and reassemble. $144 is affordable and look what you get.
ive looked at a lot of these designs, some intracite and some simple. This is the best laid out Value minded set up ive seen Very well done, easy to build and you have put together the video in a simple follow along manner. The mattress cover is a nice touch too. The only thing you really didnt cover was securing the completed project into the truck bed. Other than that, looks like a great easy set up that is functional and easy.
I don't secure it in the truck bed. Gravity & the friction of the bed rug does that for me. I drove from GA to ND and hunted for 7 days with the bed in place and it never shifted or fell over. It worked perfectly! So that's another advantage...no fussing around with attaching it to the truck bed.
This is awesome. I watched this as one of my first truck camper videos, proceeded to watch ALL of the other videos and ended up taking most of the ideas from this. Threaded inserts are a great idea. Thanks!
I just finished building a very similar setup after watching these videos you posted. I opted to go center of bed, with storage room on either side, and a sliding shelf underneath. Thanks!!
This is what I want to do. But for fishing. I love going fishing out of town and in national parks and wildlife management areas(hunting grounds). The more remote and deep in the forest it is, the better.
Stupid question , how is is secured on the truck bed floor ? Do you bolt it in the truck bed ? Does it stay put in another way ? How does it stay in place if you do t want to drill holes in the truck bed
Short of dumpster wood or free wood from somewhere else, you had to buy the wood at some point. Thanks, for the info, I'm looking at something simple like this.
how can the top and bottom sheet of plywood both be 37inches wide? the sliding draw has to be narrower to fit between legs? I love the build....can I pay your friend to make me a custom Cover for mattress and pillow?
@@G2Outdoors no problem brother...I would just like to know the right size....I been looking and wanting to build one...urs is exactly what I had n mind....i am new to saddle game and trying out a buddies Tethered system this week
Nice build and thanks for the parts list and sizes. Very helpful! Was wondering? Did you factor in whether you can sit of the bed and have head room? Or is that not even a concern. Thanks for sharing! Cheers from Michigan.
This is great! Looks easy enough for me to build. Question though, if the top is 37" wide, wouldn't the slide out underneath need to be less than 37"? Thanks!
It could be that I messed up the slide measurement. I can't remember specifically since it's been a couple years since I built it. But yes...the slide needs to be slightly less wide than the top to account for the legs.
Hi G2 Outdoor, that was easy, economical great project. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I noticed your bed rail system in your truck is that stock or you made that too? Where did you get the metal that you used for your bed rails. Thank you and continue sharing more videos. More power 👍
That's an awesome build, man. Thanks for sharing. Got some materials to start my build and definitely want to do some of what you have done. I would really like to use those hinges, but couldn't find them in your Amazon list. Do you have a link for those?
Just found your video and had a question for you. Sorry if this has been asked before but do you have a way of heating the truck bed on cold nights? Thanks for sharing this wonderful build.
Ok cool. I was able to get out yesterday, and got up in a tree with just one of the Hawk Helium stick, Phantom saddle, and Predator XL platform. I sat for about 40 minutes. It was pretty cool. I gotta find the sweet comfortable spot. I’m hoping to get out a few more times and get use to climbing and setting up everything. I think this will be my new way to hunt quick and be mobile on public ground for sure💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I’m interested in doing this build for my truck. I would assume by now you’ve really gotten to put this thing to the test so my question is, have you had any issues with it wanting to rock? The way the 2x4 was mounted on top of the supports I was curious if you had any issues with this. Do you think I would find any more stability with attaching the runner 2x4 to the side of those supports instead of on top? This would obviously decrease the clearance in order to access totes underneath but my support legs will be roughly 12-13” tall so I don’t want it to rock. Any insight would help! Thanks!
No issues whatsoever. I drove all over the country with this exact setup and slept many nights in it. It's completely stable and didn't have any issues even when taking the truck off road.
Almost complete with my build, (thank you!!!) just need the flag hinges. I see a bunch on amazon. Anyone figure out the size or have a link to the best ones to use?
@@G2Outdoors Thank you so much for the quick reply!!! I just ordered them and will have them in time for a trip to the mountains this weekend. Ended up using another hinge for the prop stick, but am curious, what kind of hinge did you use for that? I looked all over and found nothing all that similar. Thanks again for the video and the inspiration.
My husband has watched so many videos on this stuff, he said this is the best one!
Of all videos that I have watched, this is it for me. I'm building one! Thank you!!

This is doable in my 😢 5’ Tacoma truck bed. Thank you!
i use a fold up army style cot and sealed bins..but i haul stuff so portable works for me..
Very nice solution to a common issue for the traveling outdoorsman.
I hope it works like I think it will.
Super simple. Love the design. Cant wait to try this one out!

You did it right. You started from the bottom up & took your time on doing it.
Great video Greg. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Thanks Greg from a guy that is not nearly as handy as you are. Will be setting up my tundra next week for camping with my German Shorthair Pointer.
WOW! YOU MADE THAT LOOK EASY. LIKED, SHARED, AND SUBBED YOUR CHANNEL!
Appreciate you sharing !! This is what I’m looking for. Something simple I’ll be watching more of your videos

Glad it helped!
Funny I was thinking about the same just pull the plywood out setup and push it back in, instead of a sliding dresser sort nice and simple I like it
Simple build and to the point. Excellent!
Thank you for the vid... Made one myself this weekend. Just what I needed to get back to some camping.

That's awesome. Did you film it? I'd like to see it.
Good build..Thank you..Have a blessed day..
Great, simple build, exactly what I need. One question tho, how does the drawer stay level when you pull it out to access the totes?
Great build : What totes are those Walmart or on line -and width / height .

What about the carpeted floor how did u do it?
What did you have in the top of the hiking pole handles to insert into the holes you drilled in the plywood?
Great video, thanks

Good call. I must've screwed up that part. I'm sure you could pay him. He's the man.

Amazon or Walmart.

what kinda carpet did u use and adhesive? simplicity 👍
What cushion did you use?
what mattress is that?
Where did u get the mattress
So you did not include carpeting your bed in the cost of the install. What did that set you back?
Where can I find those bins under the bed?
Does the frame move around much or squeak when sleeping on it?
Is it fastened to the truck bed somehow?
Nope. Free floating and it works great.

Thanks! The bed rails were stock on my 2020 Ram. Seems pretty easy to DIY with some 80/20 or even T-Track.
Good video
Maybe I missed it but how do you keep it from sliding side to side when driving?
It doesn't slide. The Bed Rug and the weight of it solves that problem. I've driven hundreds of miles with it and it's never moved an inch.
Nice! I noticed your truck bed had no carpet for most of the video then it had carpet at the end. Do you explain this in one of your videos?
A friend told him about the bedrug and he picked one up after 1st video. BTW, I have a bedrug and it's wonderful.
Did you have issues with it shifting while driving?
Is there a link for the walking sticks you used to hold up the table
Yea I can’t find that little black hinge holder either. That’s a nice addition
Nice build Greg! Is your Ram a short box?
Might have missed it but...what size "flag hinges" did you use? Im building something similar this year for my truck. Thanks in advance.
I think they were 3.5". Fairly small.
link is in the video description
Not sure your height, but hows it sleep with a 5-1/2' bed?
Haven't slept in it yet. But I'm 5'7" so I'm a perfect fit.

Ever end up finding out the link or have a recommendation for the size? Just about finished with my build and this is all I have left to get. Thanks!
Actually called a “flag hinge”. Rannb 3-inch Flag Hinges 304 Stainless Steel Lift Off Hinge Detachable Door Hing

Mr. Buddy heater. I haven't used it yet, but it should be perfect.
Very nice build. Where did you get the Tethrd covering from??
It was an old tablecloth from a tradeshow booth.
