I agree with you. You don’t need drawers. More trouble than they’d be worth. My sweet husband was not in any way a handyman! He used to fix the toilet with twisty ties! lol. We made it thru 53 years until he passed away 10 yers ago. Looking forward to see you camping with your snazzy new bad. A new expression I’ve picked up lately. “ Not too shabby”.😊
Your "project" videos are always informative and entertaining. And you're right about not adding drawers. You'd constantly be moving stuff off the floor every time you needed to open them. The lid design is perfect.
a small slide out kitchen would be sweet...self stored...eliminates a tote...would only have to use half of it and in inclement weather you could raise the whole thing and cook inside and have counter space then have a small camp chair opposite

The bed looks nice. You did a good job, but what You are forgetting is with the mattress on to bed. You will be hitting your head on the top of the Topper.
My son had stained his new kitchen a grey and decided he wanted like a dark oak or something like that and the the grey undertone of the wood stain color, looks really good. So you could try a sample piece and see how you like it. He didn't intentionally do it but it really looks good.

Hey Quady, I know you already have the bed built, but just a useful tip for ya next time you build something... If you don't want to split your wood or mess with pre drilling all your holes, you can just run the screw in counterclockwise for about half an inch, then run it in clockwise and it shouldn't split your wood. Not sure why or how it does it, but works for me everytime and saves a ton of time. Cheers🍻
Came out nice! Plus having a drawer would get in the way. Because if you cook inside when it’s raining and you have your cooler or other stuff out, you won’t be able to pull the drawer open. The neighbors probably thought you were building a coffin 😀 If I was your neighbor I would look out my window saying what’s that dude up to? 😅 And where is his wife? i just got an f150 to go truck camping in. this is a great informative video so i can figure out how to build my bed. ive been watching for awhile now and i must say u made me realize how much i missed going camping.
Love how that came together! I didn’t think about the airflow issue and makes total sense. Drawers on that setup don’t make sense as you can get to the stuff under it pretty easily
You ever thought about ceramic coating your truck? Since it is newer and has nice paint and glass I figured a ceramic coating would keep it well protected

I'd go low to zero VOC coatings, paints and stains can off gas for a while and in a confined space like that it's hard to get away from the fumes. Vermont Natural Coatings would be the only place I know of with zero VOCs, although there may be others.
Bed build looks great! Yes for stain, no for paint, I think a stain close to the color of the Adidas sneakers your wearing in the video would look good. It adds a contrast of color but stays in the color spectrum.
I’m a pretty new subscriber to the channel, that bed looks really good. If you went with a drawer all your stuff would get wet having to jump out to open it since you camp a lot in storms. I just put together a rig in a ‘22 Duramax 3/4 ton and I used a disc-o-bed cot that slides over the wheel well. All my totes fit underneath. Everything can be taken out in minutes to convert back for truck things.
I have a custom built bed with storage and opposite storage boxes that fit a F250, 6' 8" bed. Free, in Norman Ok. Available 4/28 to 5/5. Don't mean hijack, but I hate to trash it. I spent 800. on material alone.
A walnut stain would look good with the gray carpet. You did a really nice job making that new bed. I am sure you'll get a lot of use out of this one. Making it wider will also be more comfortable. Great video Mike.

NICE! The design is great. I’ve noticed in a couple of your trips lately you’ve been short on “table” space when cooking. You should try to incorporate a slide-out or folding table you can set up when you need more flat space for meal prep. Great video. Keep them coming.

I was just thinking why not use a piece of plywood when you said about why you don’t use plywood lol. Looks good your channel has got me wanting to trade in my Jeep for a truck so I can sleep in the back when I camp. Oh and yeah maybe a grey that will look good with your current interior color.
I think just a nice dark stain would look sick, maybe give it a cool burn look, also I have a really good idea for you for shelves/drawers and be able to have a “counter top”
I think a painting the bed navy blue would look good. Adding a pop of color that would look good with the gray interior....
I'm considering a blue tinted gray stain. I don't want paint though because I like to see the woodgrain

A little tip: if the screws are long and you dont want to predrill or cant. Dip the tip in some Vaseline and viola! I promise you!! 😅

I would have done yellow for the wood. Add some color, and it will add an open feeling when you're inside.

sticky grip tape so the mattress doesn't move around and you can use it on your step stool

Have you ever tried plastic-dip ? Use that for the bed platform, it’s really durable.
Paint the bed a gray, it will match the rest of the truck, good job on the making of the bed.

I've seen photos of people hanging a hammock inside off the roll bars of a jeep 🤷♂️
