  • On this trip we Truck Tarp Camp, hike to a waterfall, and cook dinner over a fire. We were unsure when we headed to the mountains how we were going to camp so we packed for every scenario. We loaded our backpacks, threw a tent in the truck and even contemplated cowboy camping. With temps approaching 100° we decided to truck camp and explore a very remote waterfall with a fantastic swimming pool at the bottom. Tacos over the fire were amazing and our first self dehydrated meal was a success. It was a s special time hanging out with my daughter (the Boogie) in the wilderness. We can't wait to get back and hope you guys enjoy this one as much as we did :)

    I'm so happy to see this video it reminds me of good times!

      Thank you honestly! You’re right kids these days need to get out and try something, anything outdoors. I remember when my kids were afraid of the dark and now they prefer the woods than their own bed.. Eric I suppose that’s how we grew up and man I love seeing it translate to our children. Thanks buddy for your support 🍻

    Its so refreshing to see father daughter trip and camping. So glad you are making your daughter strong and she takes part in camping. How do you guys manage mosquitoes and ticks? I always wanted to go camping but watching all camping shows i realise i need loo (woken need them)and mosquitoes i can not handle. But love your videos

    • @laffitteoutdoors
      @laffitteoutdoors  2 года назад

      Thank you very much that means a lot to us! As far as the bugs go, we use bug spray with Deet in it (spray everything clothes and skin) and a device called a Thermacell to keep the mosquitoes away. We usually don’t have a problem with ticks unless we’re in tall grass or weeds.
      Not sure where you are located but winter weather camping is an option here. Not many bugs in the winter. Hope that helps some, thanks again and cheers!

    Thanks for this! I was desperately trying to figure out how to use a tarp for a truck bed cover and the internet was sold on showing me building an entire box camper. This will be enough of a challenge for my skill level.

    Hello my friend! I really appreciate the fact that you go out with your daughter in nature, and so she can learn great things from you, by the power of example. Very nice waterfall and very comforting bath there, I know that. I really enjoyed your trip. Greetings from Romania and to your daughter, who is very pretty but also strong.🤗 Have a nice day! 💖

    That bird was a woop-a-will their plentiful here in the S.E, those fire flys are called lightning bugs and those little tomatoes are called tommie toes.

    • @laffitteoutdoors

      That little bird liked to keep us up half the night! We’ve had an encounter on another trip but I was able to scare it off but this guy was relentless lol.
      Tommie toes, haven’t heard that one yet but I’m gonna use it! Cheers buddy 🍻

    I taste's sweeter because you picked it when it was ripe. The ones in the store are picked before they are ripe so they will last longer.

      You got that right! Boogie was hoarding them like they were cake lol First time eating wild berries, pretty sure she’d a fought a bear for them. Fortunately it didn’t come to that, but Bud, it’s so much better in the wild right? I’m not really a forager so all insight is much appreciated 😊 Thanks buddy!

    Love the simplicity of the tarp tent. Have you ever rigged it in an area where you didn’t have any trees to run the line?

    • @laffitteoutdoors
      @laffitteoutdoors  2 года назад +1

      Thanks buddy! No I’ve been pretty fortunate with trees, but I suppose it could be done using poles. Maybe I’ll give it a try the next time we truck camp. I’m sure there’s a way lol!

    • @mikeferretti7422
      @mikeferretti7422 2 года назад +2

      The front tie to the bumper and the rear corner you could use a painters pole or some adjustable pole then stake to the ground. No trees needed

    • @Chogogo717
      @Chogogo717 2 года назад +1

      @@mikeferretti7422 I hadn’t thought about paint poles. That’s a great idea. I’d considered hiking poles on the tailgate in a pinch. Thanks!

    There's a zillion ways to start a fire. The best way I've ever learned, is to just lay out your wood {don't bother about paper, and tinder, and kindling, and all that stuff). Just lay out your fire (logs, boards, etc), spray it with some WD-40, and light it. That's it. Simple, and quick.

    • @laffitteoutdoors
      @laffitteoutdoors  2 года назад

      That sounds great Rusty. We’ll have to give it a try. It’s fun playing with different ideas. Always fun making a fire lol. Take care buddy.

    Nice set up with the tarp. Beats spending hundreds of dollars on a tent specifically built for your truck. It is always a pleasure to find your very own private waterhole with nobody around. Another great adventure and always remember to follow your nose!🍁🦫

    Hello Buddy. Outstanding video. That was a beautiful swimming hole. Where were you close to? Poor Boogie got bee stung. I hope you kissed for her. Ha ha.... That spaghetti looked pretty darn good. That's a good idea. What kind of dehydrator do you use? By the way, you guys barely got out of Jellystone before the flood hit. That was providence. Well take guys and I'll see you all in the next one. Your friend in Oregon.👍

    • @laffitteoutdoors
      @laffitteoutdoors  2 года назад

      Well thank you our friend 😊 We were in Pisgah National Forest. It’s crazy we camped all winter not a mile from the falls and never went down there lol.
      Boogie was a trooper she was actually filming me when the bee got her and she finished the scene 💪
      The dehydrator is a Chefman, and we’ll definitely be using that more this summer. Got the idea from @matthewposa on YT.
      Man you’re right about Yellowstone… Made it out by the skin of our teeth 😬 Seems it may be a while before the parks back fully open.
      Thanks again buddy and take care from S.C.
