FYI: There are TWO sizes of filters for this series of cars. The 39mm which was removed is the one with charcoal to remove odors. The 24mm which was inserted is just a straight filter. The filter box has a slot for each size so both work. It's just a matter of preference.
Thank you for a very helpful video. Those last two screws were a real pain to get to.
Started to smell like old socks when i turned on the aircondition and i found out that it was the air filter. This video saved me for 200$, thanks. Changed the filter myself after this.

Very good video. Clear explanation and well lighted so you can see the details.
That placement is the WORST! Good video.
Thank you for this - I did have to go buy a t25 but of course it was not sold separately at Home Depot so I had to get all the rackets which was ok since I needed a different screw to release the filter. My filter had NEVER been changed (2005 xc90). Hopeful that I will not have sinus issues while driving now. Glad I was able to do it myself w/ your help.

How do you get that light To match up better with the plate when you put it back on? I’ve got about a half an inch gap all around.
Are you able to clean the evaporator in that same location for the cabin air filter?
I might wanna check that out since i got cold air coming from that area. It started doing that very suddenly during a long drive in north Sweden. all of a sudden -21c air coming in.
maybe something popped open. Good video , thanks.

Right on time!
Very good. Thank you!
the more important part - the right placement for airflow - was skipped. People do know how to unscrew screws anyhow. But it is the direction of the air flow and how to place the filter on the right side that would be helpful.
No air is blowing out of my vents at all (maybe a very tiny trickle) could that be due to a clogged or really dirty cabin air filter? No bad smell before it stopped working or anything. Was working one day then not the next.
Mine lis different on my 2007 XC90. I only have 2 screws securing the cabin filter, and the vertical instead of horizontal, and has a lot less room to work with.
+Gary K 911 Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the video, the filter was dirty where it was brown but it is black was because it is a charcoal filter.

Does the air filter affect your coolness of air ?
It can...if it is very badly blocked. Because the flow is restricted, that causes the evaporator to go "over cold" so the compressor is disengaged, the result is it seems the air conditioning system is faulty.
Had exactly that on a Toyota Land Cruiser the other day: The compressor was cutting In & Out..... simply because the sensor was getting "too cold".
Changed the filter and it ran normally.
What size filter was it? How do you figure out what size without taking it apart?
+Jherick Cooper Thanks for watching! When shopping for cabin air filers you should be able to locate the correct size by searching under year, make and model.
👍
Hi, I liked the video. Does the condition of the filter have any effect on the cooling efficiency of the climate control? I will appreciate your response. Thanks.
+Osaeloka Daniels It shouldn't. It filters out pollen and air contaminants. Thanks for watching. If any of our viewers needs to make this repair we carry the part shown in this video on our website. Not trying to critique but that new part looks different than the old one.
+JMO OPS The part it was replaced with was our aftermarket version of the part. Thanks for checking us out!
@@1AAuto i figure it lookes different but fit right ✅
You did it all wrong the filter element you removed is horizontal but you installed it vertically the reason why you have a hard time it should slude smoothly when you install it
