They have affordable real estate, great colleges like Park University, great cities, and lots of rural towns. But, it ain't for everyone.
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to move to Missouri is a personal one. There are pros and cons to living in any state, and it's important to weigh all of the factors before making a decision. I'm a Missourian and plan to move back from Vermont. I LOVE Missouri, and fine with seeing a video slamming Missouri...allows those of us to love it to enjoy it that much more.
🙂💯
Yes, i think this guy was very unfair in his assessment of our state. It’s not nearly as bad as he’s making it out to be.
From wyoming and I like when they say it's a crummy state cause then people don t move here and ruin what we have 😊

@@annmariesbeautylounge YES! That is NOT what most of Missouri looks like. He seemed hell bent on running us down and making everyone and everything here appear poor, lazy and stupid. I wonder if he’s ever even been in MO
As an Australian who has visited Missouri my wife and I found it beautiful and the people incredibly friendly we stayed in Boonville and Lake of the OZarks
Yes people might not be moving there but we still loved the state
I've never met an Australian that I didn't like. Wonderful people in a beautiful country.
What the hell is in Missouri that isn’t in Australia? Parking lots and strip malls?
It's not so bad if you're born here! It's the tourists and immigrants who give us a.bad name!
And we lwould love to have you back anytime brother
YES, some states labeled Southern have nice people. It's when you show you don't agree with them politically or by religion that their true characters come out and it isn't pretty. Sometimes pretty states don't produce pretty people. Oh, did you meet the black folks there? probably not.
I moved from California 10 years ago to sw mo. I will never leave. Love it here. It's still America. I love this video because it'll deter people from moving here. Keep up the good work! I love my low taxes, large acreage, freedom, and great people. Y'all can stay where you are!
I do agree to a certain extent with regards to the gun laws, hunting laws and driving as well. The roads are much wider here and you could overspeed without getting mostly caught! (Not that I would recommend, but still)
I moved here from California as well
Never going to leave I love it here and the people too
I hope nobody else finds out how nice it is lol

Believe me way better then Portland OR, my wife's family constantly complains about Portland.
As someone who has lived in Missouri most of my life I must say I love my state. My family is currently on a long vacation down in Florida while my husband recovers from a work related injury and I have to say I honestly cannot wait to go home.
I live here too. I love it. I moved to Seattle for 3 years and HATED the constant cloudy and rainy days. And people complain about the crime here (I'm in the St. Louis area)? Seattle is a total $hitshow. Homeless folks everywhere, everything is super expensive. Don't knock Missouri until you visit.
Florida is definitely the worst state currently, agreed 👍
I think Florida would make the list of overrated states.

I live in Kansas City about as far north as you can and still be in Kansas City. Love it! I have a friend that thinks she wants to move to Florida and she is already complaining about the few 75 degree days we've had here. I reminded her Florida would be like the worst August in history in Missouri year round in Florida. If I was going to move it would be to the Carolina's depending on their politics.
Having lived in different states, there is nowhere else I’d rather live. I’m ok with these negative impression surveys. Some of us prefer being flyover country.

Lived in Missouri my whole life and I’ve traveled to many other states. I love it here and glad there’s not a influx of people moving here. It’s beautiful here and many things to do and see. We pretty much have everything but the ocean.
I thought the Lake Of The Ozarks is booming with people moving?
@@TravelGuy9834 there’s a lot of people that buy houses at the lake but most use them as summer vacation homes and to airb&b them. During the summer it’s always packed but in offseason it gets pretty quiet.
Get in now while things are still affordable. Lake of the Ozarks hasn't experienced the boom that other areas have seen yet.
So many people are flooding in...smh
I am actually happy to hear people say they won't come because we are too conservative. Excellent, stay where you are and screw up those states. We have our problems, like every state, but a lot of the issues mentioned are very localized -- like the natural disasters and the crime. Overall it is a beautiful state with four lovely seasons, full of friendly, family-oriented and kind people.
You get it.
Well! If you talk disasters & crimes! You should be lucky you don’t live in Oregon where they are selfish, careless & clueless & outlaw stuff that is important & lastly make into law to do stuff that is wrong.

While violent crime went down in Missouri from 5.4 per 1,000 to 5.3, property crimes also decreased from 25.3 per 1,000 to 23.8. Still, Missouri had the ninth-highest property crime rate nationally. It also ranks as the sixth state for the highest violent crime rates, hard to screw Misery up anymore than it is and let us not talk about the inbreeding in the center of the state where it is very common.
@@rooster1012 did you find that on Wikipedia? I live in the middle of the state and I haven't witnessed any of your claims. People like you are the ones we don't want here. Please stay in whatever dreamland utopia you call home.

Missouri is a terrific place to live. I have lived in Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The crime rate is meaningless unless you live in high poverty areas. The weather is challenging. It is very cold in the winter. Summers are not so bad the spring and fall are terrific. I plan to live here until I pass away.
For the midwest, at least where I live in STL county, the cold is not that bad. I've been in Chicago & Iowa in the winter; not even close here. It snowed about 2" this winter for example, & maybe 2 weeks of below freezing highs. I've never seen a tornado, and the only crime I've experienced in 20+ years is someone stole one of my trashcans.
Our winter this year was mild only had one sorta severe cold the whole winter down to 6. Other then that we had a better winter then CA
Thats true but Iowa’s crime rate is the lowest in the country Missouri in the other hand thanks to kansas city and especially ST Louis that the highest crime going on in the state with the poverty level there
@Gaurav Tapaskar most people live out of St. Louis, and it's east st Louis in Illinois that's worse. 80% of missouri is rural. IOWA is colder..we only had one 1/2 inch of snow last winter.
@@blakeh6250 thats East st Louis IL is far the worst its poverty stricken and crime infested like rats pouring in its been bad for decades till today alot of criminals gangbangers and car jackers living there its so bad that in the early 1990’s aa movie Tress-pass was made there put that city right on the map same year Rodney king LA riots happened no fooling that movie really what east st Louis is in reality yeah most of missouri is rural but St louis has highest crime rate across the state alot of gangs running the city snd the housing projects and drugs pouring in.
I came to Missouri 19 years ago after a career in the military. I had spent 18 out of 25 years of that time in CA. When I retired I chose Missouri to retire to because for a retiree, it was and remains a lower cost of living state than most. Granted, when you pay lower taxes you get less from your government. Less effective policing that results in more crime and a reduction in quality of life. We have worse medical care than most states, a lower level of education which in turn results in fewer businesses wanting to locate here - especially, high tech businesses who are always looking for a better educated group of potential employees.
The weather does suck too as Briggs points out honestly. We seem to have 4 months each of winter and summer and 2 months each of spring and fall. But our winters are very moderate even compared to places like Utah, Indiana, West Virginia etc and our summers are far more moderate than any of the truly brutal southern states like Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Arizona etc., even CA has more brutal summers than Missouri unless you are wealthy enough to live within 30 miles of the Pacific.
Our taxes used to be some of the lowest state and local taxes in the nation until recently when local tax rates more than doubled to around 10% in most areas. Folks from CA and NY and MA say those kind of local tax rates are quite moderate but their average wage levels are almost double what ours are.
Missouri has its problems just like any other state and it has its perks as well. It’s a poor place to be looking for a decent job and we can thank our worthless politicians for that. It’s a quite decent place to retire to if you earn your retirement in a better managed and run state with better wages, better employment and better health care. Our political establishment and our residents seem to have forgotten the old axiom that you get what you’re willing to pay for and things like good education, good health care and good security aren’t cheap.
Interesting. I grew up in St Louis County. Lived in 4 other states. Just moved back to a small town in MO in 2021. Cost of living. Bought a condo for 1/3 the price of the condos down the street from the house I sold in AZ. Everything is cheaper. Nice people. Friendly. Safe. Quiet. I don’t want a bunch of people moving here.
I agree! Born
And raised St Louis. Lived my entire professional career in California. High cost of living big salary, and still not enough!! NEver wanted to leave, Missouri but parents sold family business and all 7 siblings followed since mama missed all her children. Never liked Cali, since both parents are now deceased we all left Cali for the Midwest, family oriented beautiful four seasons, quiet and peaceful environments. People speak to you. ❤Hope people stay away and don't over crowd us!! (Show me) a better place than Missouri? Disagree with the story!!😊
South side Hoosier right here
I’m in my 5th year of living in Missouri and I’d tell anyone to move here. I’ve lived in Virginia, Michigan, Illinois, and California and I find living in Missouri is great! My taxes are definitely the lowest I’ve ever had, the weather seems identical to Virginia, the springs and autumns are lovely, the winters are on the mild side. Culture has a high priority in the Saint Louis area. I have a plethora of stores, restaurants, pubs, and entertainment venues at my feet so I have to take exception to the quality of life comments as well. There are world class healthcare facilities at my disposal and everything is so much closer than living in LA , Chicago, or Washington, DC.
What town do you live in? Sometimes I think that makes all the difference in these states. There's parts of every single state. I wouldn't want to be in. But if I look hard enough, there's probably parts of every single state. I would love to live.
The Lou and KC have way more culture and things to do compared to Springfield (Springbilly), where I live. Healthcare is way better up there as well. There are some decent restaurants in Springfield, but there are way more in the Lou and KC.
No nearby ocean, but there is the lake of the Ozarks. No huge mountains, but there is a huge swath of rolling hills and maybe a low mountain or two in Mark Twain National Forest.
The northwestern portion has the flattest topography with maybe the southern most portion of the loess hills just north of Platte City.
There are much worse states out there.
However, I have heard from several verbal and written sources that it is a probably one of the safest places to be during a doomsday scenario, in the sense that it is relatively less densely populated.
Winters are also less severe than compared to IOWA, NEBRASKA, MINNESOTA, and SOUTH DAKOTA.
They have the Chiefs, Blues, and the Tigers which is good.
Unlike AZ were I live, they have water 💦 or at least more than several SW states.
Like TN, it borders 8 other states, the most in the US.
You forgot the MLB Cardinals and Royals! Not to mention the new soccer stadium in St Louis. 😊
Are you nuts. The quickest way to ruin your quality of life is to invite others to move there. Mn was ruined this way as was, Colorado,Idaho Texas etc
I’ve driven through Missouri many times and find the southern part of the state near the arkansas border very beautiful

I lived in Parkville, MO(a suburb of KC “North of the River”) for 8 years, from 2006-2014. It was a great place to live and KC actually has lot going on. These surveys make sense, but I guess life is what you make of it.

My parents moved to Sunrise Beach on lake of the Ozarks and it's beautiful there and I can't wait to get there myself!
Its an arm pit.
The funny thing about Missouri is that it’s so ridiculously cheap to live there that it’s hard for locals to rationalize moving away.

Moved here just over a year ago, the cities are trash just like every one I have ever visited. That's why I live 30 miles away from the nearest one. The people are great, bbq kicks ass, and its affordable. I make 30k less in Missouri than Washington state and have WAY more money than I have ever had. So glad I'm here.
I live 80 from KC and 13 miles to nearest store.
Southern Missouri is actually very nice. I am thinking of retiring there.
MO. is where the Canadian highs meet the gulf lows. You can have 50 degree temperature changes on either side of the contact point, sometimes 10 or more miles away. The gulf air brings moisture and the Canadian air precipitates it. Its a constant atmosphereic struggle which side will win out. In winter its Canada, in summer, Mexico. The rest of the year its a crap shoot. Its not boring though.
I would not live in St. Louis or Kansas City, but there are lots of very nice places in Missouri again I’d rather live in Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana than in the Pacific Northwest I believe that’s where Briggs lives
KC is cancer but STL isn't that bad if you know the city, atleast that's my experience.

Hey Briggs, great commentary on Missouri! I'm moving to Missouri from Florida as soon as my home sells! Headed for the Ozarks! Branson area. Southwestern Missouri is very different then the northern part of the state. Very low crime, very low taxes, people are so friendly, lots to do and the Ozarks are spectacular. Table Rock Lake and all the Branson attractions kinda round off the greatness. Oh yes, I love the fact that it is very conservative and patriotic.
Actually no, meth heads live in southern Missouri
Branson's crime rate isn't very good.
Haha Branson sucks but I'm glad you enjoy the state. It's way better than people think it is. And there is some great floating down in SW Mo like Noel
The criers fussing about Missouri's taxes are the reason that the state has no money for schools, health care and infrastructure. You're right, they need to move to California if they want to see high taxes.

I am moving to MO from OR (southern). Mostly to be closer to family, but also taxes and a lower cost of living. Not moving near KC or STL, but like most states, the large cities have their own ecosystems, and if you are not moving to them, you can factor out the problems they have.
Except for education, healthcare, and politics. My youngest brother moved to Florida to live with me and he had just completed his junior year in our small home-town high school. When they put him in senior classes in Florida, they ended making him repeat his junior year because he was unable to cope with the senior curriculum in Florida because the Florida schools were so far ahead of what he had learned as a junior in Missoura. When Flah Dah students know more than you... The only hospital in my home county was in the county seat, not even clinics were available in the county at large. And the politics speak for themselves, Josh Hawley, defunding ALL public libraries, abortion ban, the whole 9 yards. The best description of Missoura that I ever heard was, too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, and too damn redneck all year 'round.
We moved back in 2020 for the same reason. Check us out if you land in KC!
So true, MO is more than the big cities.
@@jamessmith-pf5zf My family lives in St. Charles County, MO. My granddaughter's public school had 11 kids out of a class of 300 who scored a 31 or higher on their ACT. We had a choice to send her to relatives in Michigan or Kentucky since her parents died, but chose to keep her here because the schools here are better according to Niche and other sources. It just depends on where you live. The hospitals in St. Louis are World Class. Our politics saved our businesses from going bankrupt during Covid and gave us the individual freedom to decide for ourselves what was shot into our bloodstream. I agree with you that Missouri is too hot in the summer, but it has very mild winters. At least it has 4 seasons.
I live on a farm near Rolla, which is almost southern Missouri, but I work in Saint Louis. Saint Louis isn't as bad as people think it is. The outskirts of Saint Louis are literally country.
We’ll I moved to Missouri anyway. And it’s actually beginning to be a spot for people to move to. Especially if your fleeing the west nonsense. Actually Phoenix is way better then any city in Missouri and all the crime and homeless, and run down neighborhoods Missouri has.
We get plenty of rain.
Kansas City is growing rapidly 🎉
As I understand, Missouri also has personal property tax. Which you need to look into and include.
Plus high sales tax (9% in Springfield MO) 😢
Curious, what is "personal" property tax as different from property tax?
@7D Thank you. So the personal property taxes are what some other states call vehicle/boat/trailer/motorcycle, etc annual registration fees? And the city, not the state collects the fees?
@7D Not true. I live in a rural county in north Missouri and we have annual Personal Property Taxes, as well as annual Real Estate taxes.
@@deirdre108 The individual counties collect those fees. You must provide proof of paying them to renew your vehicle registrations with the state each year (or, optionally, every two years)
I would say that most of the people I know relocate to Florida or Texas, but Missouri is the 3rd most popular. It seems like the homesteading options are great there.
Really? What about Idaho Montana and South Dakota ? MO isn’t even close to being 3rd and the numbers will show u that.

It still is the wealthiest County in Missouri.
That is JOCO, KS NOT JOCO, MO THAT WAS ONE OF THE RICHEST IN THE COUNTRY.
Briggs l am enjoying your Why people dont move to series. Very informative and entertaining.
Lived in MO my whole life and despite the lower cost of living cannot wait to relocate to a place where the heart calls home several states and a few different time zones away. The biggest reasons where what was mentioned in this video, mainly education, low paying jobs, heat and humidity, very little natural beauty, and quality of life. As an upper-level professional, I need to relocate in order to grow in my career. Researching and visiting several places (more than once and not vacation-like places) helped solidify the decision for my family.
I was born and raised in Missouri. I absolutely love it here. There is plenty of beautiful land, super cheap housing (minus cities), and honestly I landed a great gig here as well. Gas is around 3.25 a gallon here. You can get a bachelors here for under 35,000 student loan debt. I already have mine paid off, and I got a master’s to boot. The weather is all over the place. It has been around 78 degrees this week and the last couple days it’s been around 50 degrees. I generally have been very content here. I love it so much I tell my buddies I’m a Missouri loyalist. Missouri just needs some polishing to fix our issues.
We do have some poverty which is something I would love to see get better. The cities (Saint Louis, Kansas City, Springfield) have bad crime, especially Saint Louis. Springfield has worse crime the farther north you go. I have had my house/car been broken into, and I have heard a lot of gunshots, but I used to live in one of the worst parts of my city. Taxes suck in KC and STL. Outside of those cities, taxes are pretty damn cheap, except for sales tax, unless you live in Saint Louis county.
In terms of the political stuff. No hardcore person from either party wants to move into a state they disagree with. Its a shame because lots of states offer so much. We can’t see past politics anymore and it’s very concerning.
You used to live in Springfield MO? You’re right about the northern part. It’s only become worse now. 😢
I never cared about politics until my fellow americans crawled over broken glass to vote in a guy who literally tried to end democracy and to this day still says it was stolen after he's had every opportunity to prove it and failed. Not to mention hundreds from Jan 6 in prison because he tricked them. I can forgive a lot but kinda draw the line when it comes to overturning democratic elections.
@@skyeshwin yeah haha, I actually just commented on your comment. I just got my masters from MO state. I love Springfield actually. We just have some poverty issues I would to see get better up north. I actually live in an old incredibly cheap house and I have had my shed broken into a few times. Nothing was ever stolen, but I got a free pair of bolt cutters 😂

Nailed it! Don't get me wrong, I love it here in MO.

I'm from St. Louis and I totally agree. Even though our cost of living is cheaper than most, a lot of people are barely making it. Taxes arent high but we get taxed for a lot. Personal property taxes, city taxes, county taxes with all the taxes we pay we should have better schools. Budget cuts from schools are horrible, I remember going to high school in 2003 and my literature book was copyright in 1973, before my sister was born in 77. Science classes we didn't have a lot of equipment to look at molecules we had to look at it from a book view. They are not updating the city like Kansas City which have more opportunities. The way of thinking here is very disturbing too. We do have some of the best hospitals here, I'm asthmatic and our Children's hospitals are great. One of the best colleges for medical; Wash U are here. Now as far as the violence 🤦🏿♂️ I'll grab my gun b4 I grab my shoes and I'll be late for work before I leave my gun at home. Sad but true soo words to the wise if u have to move to Missouri go to KCMO they stay improving their city all my friends will tell you St. Louis is not a place u want your children to grow up in. Every time me & my wife comeback from out of town we cry because the mentality here, jobs are still trying to pay minimum wage...like $9 in some cases but the average 1 bedroom apartment is $600 a month in some decent areas and the housing is about $100 thousand, better neighborhoods more like $130. And yea Springfield is small and everyone knows everyone like 3 degree separation.
If people here we're struggling, they wouldn't be owning these huge houses in west county and driving Mercedes Benz and Tesla's
@@benpainter6874 my point west county...there are a few places u can raise your kids; west county, south county, parts of south city like Tower Groves, Ladue, Clayton the section between delmar loop & forest park but after that. Sometimes if u are minority u might get side eye. Growing up if u would go past 55 & Bates u might get pulled over. Early 2000s minority was taking a chance on going to south county mall and dont let it be night time. Had a few people got harassed by the police
It’s like you know what I am thinking! I recently went to Springfield for truck driving training. It was cool. People were nice. I loved it. I’m from california. I would love to move there but I am terrified of tornadoes. I been thinking a lot about Missouri since I came back
I've lived here for most of my 55 year life and never once seen a tornado here.
I really like Missouri, just stay out of trailer parks. Tornadoes like trailer parks!
Earthquakes are no picnic, either. I’ve lived in tornado alley for 50 of my years. No hurricanes here.
Do you know what the odds of actually being in a tornado are? LOW!
If you live in a reasonably constructed house and stay away from trailer parks, usually you're find. You just have to know some tornado safety rules, and it's a good idea to have a basement or tornado shelter.
I have been IN a tornado one time. We were in a jeep. My boyfriend took the jeep down into the ditch next to the road, and the thing roared right over our heads. Scary, but we made it fine.
Tornados love flat areas and they jump around hitting the tops of hills too. Live about midway down a hill. That way you don't get the water problems in your basement if you were at the bottom, and you don't get hit by a tornado at the top of the hill.
Hi Briggs. Thanks for the video and the laughs. Have a great weekend.
I grew up in Missouri and left primarily because of radical weather conditions, ( also in what is known as tornado alley), high crime, and Jackson county had the highest property taxes in the state.
Missouri is not in tornado alley, as it is most often defined but yes, it is close enough.
I live in Southwest Missouri. And I think the best answer for the tax burden is we live in a state (hell) with miserable humid summers and crazy cold snap winters, there is really nothing to do except go out to eat, get drunk, get la:d, get arrested, and last but not least, go to church. Just this alone is not a healthy lifestyle lol. But I do realize that in places I've live in before, San Diego, Las Vegas, and other big cities, it is fairly cheap to live here. But that is changing too. Love the videos BTW.
Too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, and too damn redneck all year 'round. Good hunting though, unless you get shot by some drunk city boy down in the woods to kill something, anything. lol
No joke on the "cheap" part changing! All these asshole boomers here in the comments talking about loving living here or moving here for retirement are literally driving the prices up with their nonsense and contributing absolutely nothing! Hell, they keep tearing shit down that might actually attract people as they pretty consistently have crotchety "get off my lawn" syndrome. I hate it here but the blackhole has crushed me and now I'm literally just here waiting to die.
I moved out of Missouri due to high taxes. They forget Saint Louis charges city income taxes whether you live there or not, unregulated CID taxes, sometimes multiple CID taxes, moderately high real estate taxes, high personal property taxes and outrageously high food sales tax. They are finally starting to cut income taxes on lowest income residents. The lower taxes you speak about are in the majority rural areas, not the cities.
Exactly… not sure what rankings briggs is talking about

My family survived the EF-5 in Joplin Missouri (JoMo) back in 2011. Sadly my family knew several of the 150+ people that died😢.
Tornado Alley is definitely an area that I wouldn't move to. Visiting my family, is the only time my presence would be in Missouri and I'm cautious about doing that.
I agree… esp living in Joplin is a big no
I had a friend who lived by Joplin and he said it was absolutely devastating...
i live one below ya, and i do remember that one that hit Joplin. Little Rock got hit pretty good this year, but it was no EF-5...
I used to live in the western edge of Tornado Alley. I paid about 1.5% of the value of my house for homeowners insurance annually. They expected that my house would need a new roof every 6-8 years due to storm damage, and it did..

I moved to Kansas City with the hopes and dreams of buying a house with a pool with privacy away from neighbors so I could come home from work and have my special fun time in the pool Four months later, that dream fizzled, and I moved back to the East coast where I came from.
A house with a pool and privacy? In KC?were you on that missouri meth?
I enjoyed your video. Your analysis of Missouri seems reasonable as you have to see the state as a whole including St. Louis and KC. I am an Idaho native who has lived in several parts of the country including; Washington State, Oregon (Portland), Colorado, Illinois, and New Jersey.
I have lived in rural Missouri (NEMO) for the last 30 years and love it. The weather can be a bit rough especially the hot humid summers. But, a combination of low cost of living, relaxed lifestyle, friendly folks, and lots of opportunities to enjoy nature is a real winner for me. Living in a more rural area I avoid any high crime problems. I was lucky to have a great job here and I suppose that makes a lot of difference no matter where you live. Though if I lived on either coast my pay would not have stretched nearly as far and I would not have been able to sustain nearly as nice of a lifestyle.
Thank you for your video. Please tell everyone to not move here. Stay where you are or go somewhere else.
"Don't move to CA or NJ or you'll cry yourself to sleep". As a lifelong New Jerseyan, this is so very true 😆😒
I moved to Missouri last year and bought my first house 😁
Oh boy. I lived and worked in Missouri for a couple of years. Rolla, to be specific. There was not much to recommend it. It was there that I discovered the precursor to the Internet; BBS's and On-line services. I spent many evenings at home in front of my computer developing an addiction to on-line browsing that continues to this day.
As someone who was raised in MO, and maybe your atypical Missourian at that, I disagree with the weather being a contributing factor to having lower quality of life. It's odd - at best. The weather is spontaneous and completely nuts at times, but it also offers constant change, which is so refreshing to my soul. You get regular sunshine but you also get rain, epic thunder storms, and some overcast days to balance it out. In the KC area, you rarely experience tornadoes, but you will get a warning here and there to take shelter in your basement. You can have an extreme range of temperature changes within even the course of a day or within a week. It feels ridiculous at times. As a result of this being my normal, I actually struggle living in places where the weather stays the same too much. I miss the change of weather. Without it, I feel like time is standing still for months at a time. I'm probably the odd one out - but I do love MO weather. :)
Agreed. The change gives you that Midwest grit. Do I need my snow boots or a T-shirt today? Who knows, don't be a dummy and check the weather. Lol

Honestly it seems like most of what people look at is the big cities in Missouri. The charm of the state is in its small towns.
Thats right...
I moved to Missouri in 2020 from Washington, DC after 34 years in the Capitol City. Housing affordability was a major factor as well as family ties here in St. Louis. I can't argue with the video but there are plenty of sunnier sides to the state and St. Louis in particular, ya just got to poke around.
STL is a matter of knowing the city, then it isn't that bad
For those in MO remembering the big flood of 1993, yes the weather is not your friend. Most levees held but one did have a big break and caused massive damage. The ones that did hold, if you walked on them during the flood, you had to watch out for the snakes because it was the only dry land they could find. Love the spring in MO.
It's easy to avoid living in the flood plain
Saw -27 degrees F in Jefferson City in about 78 or 79, I forget, had three tornados hit my property in five years. Never stopped my car in St Louis. But I had a great garden and biking was good. Live in Charlotte now but wouldn’t mind going back.
Yeah, I read about the Joplin tornado from 2011. Over just 38 minutes, the storm, which was at least 200 miles per hour, killed more than 150, injured over 1000 people, and caused about $2.8 billion of damages from money at the time.
i went to school in missouri when the joplin tornado hit like an hour away from where i stayed. it was really bad and a lot of people were affected, definitely the worst tornado in decades and probably one the worst in history still

I'm glad to see many of the comments talking about how they prefer this state to others when we might be moving there in a couple years. The major worry of mine moving there is natural disasters. Where we live in TX now, we're just outside of hurricane reach, nowhere near earthquakes and blizzards, and just below tornado valley... Everything else on the list can be dealt with.
I loved living in St Louis but the cost of living paired with being a major city whose salaries pay 20% lower than the majority of the country..it was impossible to stay.
This is why subbing sex ed for economics was a bad idea. Lower wages but lower cost of living. Go elsewhere higher pay, higher cost of living and higher taxes. So if you do go, do you re eesearch first.

The weather isn't that bad, changeable but no so bad. Yeah, Joplin 12 yr. ago, big flood in '93, but generally not too bad. I only have experience with St. Louis, but most days are mild with only one or two months really hot and one or two really cold. Usually, the day starts off in the 40s or 50s and climbs to a peak about 3:00 PM; 80s or 90s in summer. The humidity can be bad in summer it's true, but only a few moths.
The thing about taxes is that they don't seem to do anything with them. We have state income tax and the roads are a mess. Texas, on the other hand has great roads and no state income tax. City income tax, a whopping 1%🙄, same thing. And it's not like there's no money. From what I understand, St. Louis has a huge pool of unspent money. Probably why St. Louis is ranked as one of the poorest run cities. It's a shame 'cause its kind of nice here. The city is decent sized, small enough to be easily navigable, but big enough to have decent amenities; pretty good people, too.
I was born here, moved away for 30 yr. and been back since '93. I can't think of anywhere else that would be better, overall. Sure, some places are better in this or that, but overall I like St. Louis. Now rural Missouri is a whole different story.
Late August/Sep/Oct and Nov are historically really nice..

I’ve traveled extensively for work. I always come home. There is way more to Missouri than meets the eye. Missouri has a long, long history and wonderful places to visit and enjoy. This video only brings up negative things that are partly true and you can find negative things in every state in the Union. I’m proud of my state. I came back home in 2020 and don’t intend to leave ever again.
Missourian here, I've lived here since day one, and I'll admit, crime definitely ain't fun nor is our poverty population but, surprisingly the tornadoes don't always come up as a big problem, I've travelled a little bit, but I think one key thing not mentioned
We could have 30 degrees one day and 80 the next, it really does fluctuate that much
Like so many places, many of the bad things are primarily in parts of the urban centers. Just live outside of those if you can and drive in for the day when you want to go to a zoo. The botanical garden in STL is one of the best in the nation.
This isn't true. Drugs and crime are bad throughout most of NO not just a few rural areas. Poverty and high school dropouts also exist in various areas throughout the state.
@@maryloumartin6026 That's why I said 'many' and 'primarily'. But that's just because of the high population in urban centers. Of course small towns have poverty, drugs and dropouts. Just not so much of it so it isn't overwhelming. There are a few exceptions. I can think of a couple of southeast MO towns there's probably no reason for a decent person to visit.
I-44 across those ozark mountains/plateau/hills are some scary 'ish whenever you get more than 3 inches of snow in the late fall & winter!!
