That is "Saint" Charles Cunty. You immediately blew your credabiity. Lordy be, your second recomendation is Creve Couer. I lived with my mother in Creve Couer from 7/68-6/73, through high school (Parkway Central: '69) and college (Washington Univ. in St. Louis, BA '73). Are you aware that Columbia is neither the state capitol or located on the Missouri River? Why did you show it as being that? Also, it is pronounced "Missour-ee" or "Missour-ah," not "Misery." • @tomlewis28
      @tomlewis28 5 месяцев назад

      @@713davidh42 Even though we have a taxi service, we don't need public transportation. With the university we are around 25,000 people, but our city isn't spread out. It's around 3-4 miles from end to end any direction. It's a rural culture where most people drive, so we don't have a need for busses and trains etc.
      I see your point, and I'll agree with you. But in context of just how rural Rolla is and pedestrian friendly we are, I think a 24/7 taxi service is a form of public transportation. We are the only non-military city within 60 miles that even has a taxi. That's how isolated we are. While taxis aren't true public transportation, I believe it counts when context is considered.

It's actually been dying off. Population keeps dropping, businesses leaving. But there's a lot of other places prospering in Missouri. Towns around Lake of the Ozarks, Table Rock Lake, and Southwest Missouri. Stay away from the bigger cities, too much crime. Check out statistics for St Louis and Kansas City before considering. Thirty years ago I would not have encouraged any person of color to move to Missouri. The state does have an iffy reputation and has not been welcoming to a lot of groups. Until 1969, interracial marriage was illegal in Missouri.
      But like everywhere else, Missouri has changed and isn't the "sundown" state that wary travelers previously avoided.
      There are some beautiful historic areas and towns in Missouri full of welcoming people and, if you're coming from the east or west coast, the lower cost of living is a nice surprise.
      Politically, Missouri is a conservative red state, particularly in smaller areas. In national elections STL and KC usually go blue and everything else is red.
      If you have kids make sure to research the school district before moving. Missouri ranked 27 in 2022 for overall education and I believe the public library system has lost funding.
      Also, many rural hospitals have closed so if anyone in your household has ongoing serious health issues you may want to avoid those areas.

I was born and raised in that state, lived in 9 different cities in total, and left in 2018 and never looked back. There is nothing i miss about living in Misery. Good luck to those that like it

    Some of the rural towns are 80% ultra conservative, the state just defunded public libraries, the legislature just refused to ban children from carrying guns in public(!!!), and women are having their reproductive rights ended for the most part in the current political environment. So....

      82.3% of statistics are made up 75.4% of the time. Just think about what you said. "Some (a non quantifiable number) of the rural towns are 80% ultra conservative. So you are quantifying a number off of a non quantifiable number'? There are 114 counties in Missouri and tens of thousands of rural towns. I doubt if you've been to even 100 of them which would still be a drop in the bucket. Padding numbers and making broad claims is not even close to being a mediocre way of making an argument.

      I spent 20 years in the Air Force and have lived in Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado, Oklahoma, Florida, and Montana and chose Missouri to retire. It's beautiful with lots or rivers, caves, and lakes has all 4 seasons and the transitions between the season is where Missouri shines. It's a beautiful place.
