Older guy here, this adds a tremendous amount of value for me on several levels. I don't like plastic and all filters in one location just works.
I agree!
@@PowerstrokeRick Installed mine, love it. No other way to say it, that last bolt in the stock fuel filter cup sucked.
@@gliv2 awesome glad to hear and yes that last bolt did suck!!
Every diesel pick up should come with the filtration system like this.
I agree!
This video saved my life! 3 issues on install for me. 1. Topside filter housing. After fighting with that damn bolt, I got a chisel and cut the plastic between the bolt and the housing. Popped right off, then loosened from the backside! Way more room. 2. The water sensor. It came out easy enough, but i had to take the SPE bolt on resovor off to slide the sensor in. Turned my drain out to match yours. 3. The lower fuel lines were different than the SPE instructions. I didn't have the pull up tab / press down Tab. It was just a press down. Hard to get leverage on those tabs and took me a minute to figure out how to get them off.
Like I said man, you are a life saver! I appreciate you!
Glad to hear!! Thanks for watching!!
Really appreciate the video! I just installed and it was relatively straight forward thanks to this video. The hose connections were tight, but nothing a heat gun didn’t take care of with relative ease. The WIF sensor was easy to get out, but took a minute to get back in with the double o-rings. The biggest take away that I found was my damn fuel connections were different then yours AND the instructions. I have a 22’ for reference and hope this helps. My connections were a very simple push in(towards the fuel filter and to relieve the tension on the fitting) and after pushing in, had a simple button that was depressed. Took me a WHILE to figure that out after trying to pry up on the damn clip. 😂 anyway, I wanted to share that and I hope it helps someone else in the future. This kit is badass though! Thanks again.
One more thing: pre-prime your oil & fuel filters by filling them w/ oil or fuel respectively - just like my heavy equipment diesel mechanic friend recommends. Still need to turn the key a few times, but not 10 - 20 times, so it’s easier on your pumps & motor. Something to consider.
True that good point!!
Great vid Rick & great alternative to the HSM upper fuel filter kit. Main advantage I see w/ the SPE kit is that any issue w/ what was the upper filter now drops fuel on the ground instead of the motor (you may have seen the diesel geysers then engine fires from upper filter failures). Please just remember that the return line fitting is yet another potential failure point on our Powerstrokes. The return line disconnect fitting removal is counterintuitive, and the barbed fitting is very fragile (ask me how I know). Rick, I think I’m now sold on the SPE “all in one kit” system kit, instead of HSM’s separate kits for Upper filter & Lower water separator. Only thing i’ll do different is to use stainless hose clamps over the barbed connection fittings that SPE provides. Just a bit of old school insurance. Thanks for putting this vid together. I found it jest in time before buying HSM’s (inferior IMHO) separate Upper & Lower kits.
Glad you liked it and thank you for the support much appreciated! I also run SPE injector return line repair kits to prevent that part from failing I believe I have a 11-16 video on that part up here!
Very good install video! I have them as well they don’t hang below the bottom of the tank. Love mine, awesome product!
Yeah SPE makes some awesome products that’s forsure!! I can’t get over how good they look mounted up!!
2017 PSD. This was an informative video. Im not a mechanic, I don’t like changing the filters in their current configuration and I don’t like paying $300.00 for somebody else to change them. This looks great and appears to simplify the filter changing process. I don’t off road. Is there any concern with lower hanging filters being damaged by debris on the road?
@@johnmagan7266 thanks for watching! Some people don’t like how low they hang, but I don’t off-road my self either, just a daily driver. It mounts up really solid and I don’t have any issues!
You don’t have to off-road to damage that low hanging filter just run over some road debris there could be problems.
I don’t have this kit yet but I am looking into it and I read that CAT makes shorter filters that are compatible. I don’t have the part numbers but it shouldn’t be hard to find
I knew I clicked on the right video as soon as I saw that cigarette in his hand. This is a guy who knows what he’s talkin bout 😂
Always gotta have a cowboy killer going!!! Thanks for watching!!!
Only thing I’d be concerned about is if your driving through deep ass snow or something since it hangs lower than flush with the tank the bottom of the filter could get hit by something under the truck
Ran it through a few storms no issues luckily but both trucks sit for the winter now
I'll buy it!! I think it is the best kit I have seen for my f250 6.7
Agreed!
Yea the filters hang too low for mudders. Maybe SPE may want to fab a plastic mud guard around it. Other than that the unit is about 500$ @3 hrs work for the average joe blow☝️
The beauty of this is you can change out to different filters if needed! Shorter filters can be used as long as they can meet the micron ratings and water separation.
Also when priming so people know for the fuel you want to cycle it for 10 seconds at a time for 10 times to prime the fuel filter
Absolutely
Thanks for the great video bro, installing mine tomorrow.
Awesome and thanks for watching!!
I think they put mine together backwards. The small petcock on mine is towards the back, so it's extremely hard to get to when the filters are on
Send me some pics!
Looks like having 3’ of hose laying on top of the fuel tank is asking for a problem. Formed shorter hoses would be better. Also I wouldn’t use hot water on fuel hoses. Heat gun would be better.
Very very Nice I Like... Hey Quick question have you put Deeper Engine Oil Pans and Trans Pans on... If Soo have you Extended Oil Pump Pickup and Trans Filter to go Deeper into the Sump..
If you check them out I got 2 more videos on installing the deep SPE Motorsport oil pans, didn’t have to extend anything, eventually I’ll get a trans pan video up and I’ll have to extend the filter on that one
Have you ever heard of anyone having an issue with the push lock fittings blowing off while driving? First it was the 90* push lock now it’s the other that clipped into the factory lines.
I’ve heard of 1 or 2 folks having that issue but I’ve never ran into it myself! I got about 12k miles on my setup and on my 2nd set of filters no issues
Nice video man! Thanks.
Thanks for watching!!
Question: Does this filter upgrade solve a common Power Stroke problem, or is it just damn cool? Both are good reasons.
Definitely damn cool! The thing I really like is it gets rid of the top filter on the engine bay, which is sweet because you shouldn’t have to worry about a mess up there anymore. You can see the size of the new fuel filter has a better micron rating then stock and provides much better filtration. And lastly the wif sensor where it is positioned should be able to catch water in the fuel before it heads up stream!!
Definitely a awesome unit! If you go to spe RUclips channel dan goes more in depth about how it all works!
This was a great tutorial
Thanks for watching!! Like a sore dick, can’t beat it
Why is the fuel/air sensor socket empty by where the upper fuel filter used to be?
At one point you show the part we need to take out, the next view is already install, the actual install is what we need
NIce work. I am concerned how the filter hangs down pretty low.
Thank you and it’s not as bad as I thought it would be I know some other brands hang really low but on this one you can only see a little poke from under the truck or the fuel filter
Very good install video! I have them as well they don’t hang below the bottom of the tank. Love mine, awesome product!
I'd fab a skid plate, don't need an animal impact or even a snow drift tugging on that and then be stuck with no fuel supply. A nicely fabbed plate with a big enough hole cut for the drain
@@mrfuninthesun33 wouldn’t be a bad idea!
@@PowerstrokeRick that fuel filter system looks heavy. It’s the old bracket heavy enough to hold it. I go off road a lot. I would be concerned that vibration would break it. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You need a shield for the filters we had to make a shield customer had rock come up and puncture filter
You got a picture of the shield you made?
@@PowerstrokeRick not really i used 1/2 inch steel plate made box around filters open bottom 4 bolts to frame i have done probably 30 - 35 of them
Last 4 years when I made the boxes I had 3 inches from filters to wall of plate and 2 inches below filter i have even made a few to protect oil filter
With or without cat filter conversion kit one was hit by thick limb last month saved the oil filter especially since I make plates 2 to 2.5 below filter
This saved them a 23 mile hike they were snow camping and limbs buried under snow .... now to avoid freezing jelling of fuel with those filters
Hang so low make sure to dose ( winter blend -- power services - fuel treatment .. I put 100 gallon treat in tanks of all trucks in winter I own a diesel
Repair shop ... hopefully you change stock oil filter to cat .. make sure to prefil. Filter good luck 👍
@@quagmiredavis4117 good to know thanks for the tips and info! And yes I have the SPE billet oil pan I’m going to be putting on and looking to get a cat oil filter setup so I’ll be running close to 17 qts
Nice video man I was wanting to see a install. Good job explaining too
I have a question how does this system work with SPE disaster prevention kit?? Doesn’t make since adding this kit how it would work.
Thanks man much appreciated!! I would contact SPE on how it would all work together!
@@PowerstrokeRick do you think I could use this fuel filter system with a 60 gallon s&b tank?
@@colt4528 I believe SPE said it’s compatible with aftermarket tanks not sure how big though I’m guessing yes
Rick, by chance and validation if fuel pressure from lift pump to CP4 differed between OEM filters to SPE/Cat configuration? Thanks...
I don’t have that info but when I get time I can check one of my buddy’s trucks compared to mine
I Have a 2012 F-350... I See that the Water separation filter is Different from mine... Would this Work or is There a Part number for My 2012 F-350???
No this kit is 17+ only. You would have to get a different brand for under the truck and then you can run the SPE Motorsport T block manifold in the front
Sure would hate to catch a rock with thoes filters.
What about the oil filter being exposed? Not to be a smarta$$, just stating the obvious along with air dog, fass , and oil bypass filter solutions. On the fence going this SPE route, hence why revisiting Rick's channel.
Good video!
Thank you!!
Great video! Any reason why there is so much excess hose on top of the fuel tank?
Thanks for watching!! And in the instructions SPE says to cut two 3ft pieces you can make shorter if you want but I think the 3ft is good because of how it’s all curled up there, I feel if I went really shorter I would have it kink easier and I don’t want that!
@Powerstroke Rick so there is no way to make a straight run with the lines?!
@@skyvwest you can shorten them if you would like but I wouldn’t go crazy, can’t have a straight run you got to come off the 2 lines on the Frame and go to the top of the tank so either way there need to be a loop if that makes sense!
I didn't see it, but did you install a DPK too? That was my first mod, protect the HP fuel system from that potential bomb known as a CP4. Unfortunately I have an F-450 and the install will be a lot more difficult because the filter is 90* in relation to what yours is, and between the tank and frame. Argh.
What's the Part number to this All In One Water Separator Filter and Fuel Filter Kit... I Don't see it under 17-23 Ford 6.7L Diesel looking For This Same exact one for a 2012 Ford 6.7L Diesel.... Are you Able to get me the Part number I needed for my 2012...
They only make this for 2017+ trucks
Having trouble with the fittings and the fuel lines. They are not lying about being tight. Any other tricks you used
The plastic push on fittings? Just use scolding hot water soak the hose in it for at least a min and be fast taking out and slam it on, also put a little bit of diesel fuel on the fitting as well going in
@@PowerstrokeRick thanks for the vids and reply. Looks like I need to push a little harder
@@tomrucker2737 yeah they are definitely a pain have to use a lot of horsepower!!
@@PowerstrokeRick you are not lyin. The best I can do on a couple is a little less than 1/8 inch
Hopefully that’s good that’s all I got.
Has anyone done this with the S&B 62 gallon fuel tank? I am having an issue with the bracket fitting.
What happens when you go to prime the system and your petcock starts leaking instantly even when it’s tightened
Have you had this happen? You could have over tightened it. Just needs a snug turn or two
Does this eliminate the need for the disaster prevention kit?
No just gets rid of the top filter
Weird, guess you wouldn’t want to off-road with it? Seems like it hangs down pretty low, also what if it gets mud under there? Doesn’t seem right.
No off-roading for me I have a 4 wheeler for that!
@@PowerstrokeRick gotcha. Yea mines 4x4 I mainly use it for hunting and off roading. Probably not a good option for me. My truck is covered in mud right now haha
What year is your F250? I just purchased my F250 in September 2022. Will this in any way void a factory warranty?
Mine is a 2017 I have no warranty on it I don’t believe it would void it but I would look into it first
Did you fill your filters with fuel before putting them on or no?
No I did not
Powerstrokerick , just installed mine and noticed that the fuel filter only has one oring and does not have one to separate the dirty side from the clean side. The water separator comes with a separate oring in the plastic but not sure we here that goes?
Yeah I didn’t use the extra O-ring not sure what it was for
The o ring that comes with water separator filter goes around the threads of the filter mount. Put the o ring on and slide to the top of threads then mount the filter.
@@himni1 you talking about the entire housing it self that mounts up next to the tank with the torx screw?
@@PowerstrokeRick no the little threaded pipe that the spin on filter tightens on to. You put the o ring on that first then spin the filter on. It is to prevent water going from the dirty side (outside or outer ring) to the clean side (center or inside).
@@himni1 oh ok I gotcha now
It hangs down too low for my liking. Otherwise nice stuff.
Thanks for watching!
Hey did you use the extra oring that came with the cat filter on the water separator, because some big trucks don’t use it and some trucks do.
No I did not use it
@@PowerstrokeRick hey does it sound like constant air on first start up after it’s been sitting a while cause I’m still got air sound at first start up after sitting a while like a couple hours
@@thewrxsti1 no I don’t hear that did you cycle the key switch a ton and make sure the filters are all tight?
@@PowerstrokeRick yea I drove it home and even beat on it no check engine lights came on. I just hear air after it sit for some time a first start up. And no fuel leaking anywhere.
@@thewrxsti1 I think you’ll be alright does it sound like a lot of air sucking?
Does the car filter have a lower micron filter range than the oem?
I believe it’s somewhere around 2 microns when the oem is 10 I believe, don’t hold me on that you can look up the specs on cats website
Does this eliminate the need for a disaster kit
No I believe you can still run one
your hose's start leaking yet?
No
Had to put clamps on mine they where blowing off
That filter hangs too low.
Great vid! Keep rockin out with the cock out! 🤘
