You forgot to mention THE most important feature that this phone has which other flag ship phones like Samsung, do not support. This phone supports charger bypassing, so if you wanted to game for HOURS on end, or stream for hours, etc.. & are at home or on a long train journey or anywhere with a mains plug socket, then you can power the phone DIRECTLY from the mains WITHOUT the battery being involved, so unlike with Samsung for example, the battery is not constantly charging-discharging-charging-discharging when using it whilst plugged in, so it doesn't massively reduce the battery life of a phone with a non-replaceable battery by eating up the charge-discharge number of life cycles.
Sony offers this too!
That's such a great feature.
This is normal behavior for practically all mobile devices. Laptops and cellphones have had this for decades.
@@davisbradford7438 Actually no? Tell me how to charge my Samsung laptop and phone to 50% and then use the power adapter without filling the battery up higher than 50%?
@@DX88 my samsung phone at least has an option to charge to 85% and then stay there? Many times after being like that for an hour or so it drops to 84%, so that sounds like it's not still trying to charge it at least.
And my Lenovo lapto has a Battery Conservation feature that lets you stop charging at 65% and similar happens (I've seen it go down to 60% over a couple weeks then it charges back up to 65% again, since I use it as a desktop replacement it is basically always plugged in)

@@pixels_per_inch yes but there are a lot of coatings that are done
Hydrophobic & oleophobic: repels water n oil for quick clean-up of the surface from a variety of contaminants
Anti-smudge: Resists the accumulation of fingerprints, oils, liquids, grime and cosmetics
Hydrophilic: Makes the surface feel smooth and appealing
Sometimes hydrophilic coatings are also done depending on the usecase like inside a camera lens especially inside outdoor cctvs
There are different ways of doing it like chemical dipping, sry I'll stop I dunn wanna write an essay

The problem with gaming phones is that as cool as they are, there isn't much to play natively. I would love to have a mobile game steam platform but unfortunately aside from maybe genshin and some shooter games, there isn't much that would use all of these features and performance.
There's a good working PS2 emulator now though!
@@DX88 True emulators would be a good reason but you don't really need a full fledged gaming phone for those. You can get a good emulator experience out of a wireless controller and any modern phone
@@ozerune that's not true at all, almost no phone can properly run the PS2 emulator yet. But this one will.
@@DX88 my OnePlus 8T runs Aether SX2 just fine
Beyond emulators there are source ports of PC games that can be played. Being able to play Brutal Doom Platinum with no slowdown for example.
It would make these devices a lot more attractive however if Asus released Windows drivers for their phones so at least you could install Windows for ARM and play a decent amount of 32bit Steam/GoG/PC games.
Why all the bezel hate?
I'd rather have a bezel than something that disrupts my display.
Only reason I'm not still using my Pixel 2XL is because it got run over by a fire truck. It still works, but it is bent and I can't replace the shattered screen. Unbending the phone would risk breaking the bent Mainboard, and it isn't worth fully rebuilding.
Right? Most people are putting a case on their phones, which adds a bezel anyway.

9:34 While it has the same Cirrus amp as the ROG Phone 5 for the speakers, it doesn't have the ESS ES9280AC Pro quad dac and amp, or a comparable chip.
As a result, the headphone output may have lower fidelity, and definitely has less power, because it just uses the integrated Qualcomm codec.
Wait, they removed that?
Thanks for the info, still looking for an upgrade from my v50
You can see at the same timestamp, there's Snapdragon Sound & aptX are advertised. That are Qualcomm's proprietary audio solution for hi-fi audio processing & has better power efficiency as compared to ESS, probably that's why.
Thanks for the info. That's a real shame, though. The ROG Phone 5 was an audio beast.
Thanks for the info, that was the whole reason i was interested in it.

I've got a ROG Phone II, and had the original ROG Phone before it, and have been using them as my phone since the ROG Phone came out. As a phone, it works excellently imo. Load of storage, load of battery, headphone jack, good speakers. It's kinda an it-just works. I still get security updates, and got an Android version update a few months ago, so I will trust ASUS' comittment to the device.
Yup, imo it's the perfect power user phone. That's why I don't think I'll ever switch away from them tbh. It's everything I've ever wanted in a phone.
I'd like to try out ROG phones once my Xperia 5 ii dies. I really like the Xperias and the ROGs because they have a headphone jack and no notch.

No, the IPhone is missing mids. The ROG Phone is pretty balanced while the IPhone has a V-shaped sound
No, the Rog6 is missing mids, the entire frequencyrange from 300hz - 1500hz is lacking. The Rog is also v shaped, the reason you can't really hear that from the recording is due to the broader stereo, remember the microphone they use is omnidirectional, so obviously the Rog6 will sound much fuller on the recording, while in reality it sounds just as "bad". It's a major stepdown from the Rog5 and isnt even compariable to the much superior Xiaomi Black Shark 5.
My expectations are always met when it comes to ASUS anything. Not bad for even $1500, because you can game and then return back to regular phone stuff and you get all that premium modular stuff. Good job from ASUS
What I love about the ROG phones are the front facing speakers. Those alone sell me on the phone, because as far as I'm aware there aren't any other phones that have them.
sony…
xiaomi have 4 speaker, 2 front 2 side
why would you need speakers at all, when the superior listening experience is over headphones or external speakers anyways? espacially when you game
@@BeastyBite because accessories are annoying and clunky and i have to carry them
@@F4c2a if you are like that you shouldn‘t listen to music or gamesound anyways
not sure who would want a lousy, slow and extremely inefficient wireless charging option, especially since so many people these days seem so worried about power consumption and efficiency
The box kinda feels like an old school bionicle box and I love it
5s user here, good experience overall using it as a normal phone, only thing I miss is wireless charging, but the rest is worth it for me.
Only challenge I'm having is updating to android 12, manual downloads run but fail every time, and it's an issue shared by a lot of users
Most likely because ya have the Tencent Edition aka the Chinese version that is flashed incorrectly with a global frimware
in what situation do you miss wireless charging?
Would be hard for them to implement the wireless charging if they have the soc and batteries in that orientation/placement.
thats a trade off I would take for better cooling (wireless charging sucks)
Wireless charging is mostly a waste of energy. Here you have 2 ports and can play while plugged in and bypassing the battery.
IPX4 water resistance, ROG always innovating.
It has a 3.5 headphone jack. I like it more and more. The Sony Latest phone is still probably going to take my money but that is slick and should be comeing back.
Hi-Fi IEM's are norm they need power.
After a quick trip to GSMArena's phone comare tool, it does appear that the only differences between the 6 and 6 Pro are the rear screen, the colors (the 6 has black as an option, while the 6 Pro only comes in white), and the storage memory configurations (the 6 starts with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, and goes up to 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM; the 6 Pro only offers 512GB of storage and 18GB of RAM, so at the very least, you can get more RAM with the Pro).
So really, unless that tool is inaccurate, the Pro only really gives you the rear display, and the ability to get 18GB of RAM over 16 (the $1000 of the 6 is the 512/16 one), and you have to pay $300 for those. Two extra gigs of RAM really doesn't seem like it'd make a difference when you already have 16GB, so it all depends on how valuable you'd find that rear display. I can definitely see how it it could be useful, but it doesn't seem worth the $300 the 6 Pro costs over the 6. So overall, the regular ROG Phone 6 seems like the smarter buy, unless you would REALLY appreciate that rear display.
It's just like buying a new skin in a game. Doesn't make your gameplay better, but it costs money and looks cooker. Same is the pro model.
@Toploaded seems we are in the same mind.
if the pro was coming on same date then yes I would had the pro. instead i just bought the regular 6
"I plug that in my cyberpunk bike and then it's Akira time" 😂
Cries in Snapdragon 8 gen 1
At this point gaming phones should come with that external cooler plus water cooling enabled, just like some of those clevo laptops with external water cooling
Well, I'd guess AS coating just stands for anti-sweat, rather than any specific thing
Anti Static?
@@nterix Thanks for the lesson. I'll carry that knowledge with me until the day I die.
It stands for anti smudge
I've just started the review, but man... I quite literally begged my supervisor/the person above me to see if we could get a ROG 6 installed at our display. We have an ASUS phone, but it's one of the "worse" ones, and, well...it doesn't look as cool. I've had customers who've wanted decent 'gaming phones', and, well...this one looks absolutely stunning... And it's the same-ish price as the S22 series! It looks really fun, and I am of the opinion our whole display stand needs a revamp, especially where we display a few more fun colours (the Xiaomi 11t is done DIRTY, we have the black one displayed, yet the other colours are absolutely STUNNING). And just...I would like to sell some other phones than Samsungs, Motorola, and (urgh) iPhones.
Basically, as a phone seller, I would like to sell some phones that I know my customers would like. And like, the price is something akin to the s22 series and more expensive Xiaomi and OnePlus. So with someone in that bracket, wanting better RAM and a good CPU...this would be nice. And the quality of the cameras aren't actually as bad as I feared; they're pretty damn good, and it's better than the s21 FE. Though, my annoyance with the phone is the IPX6 rating. It's not waterproof, which...really sucks tbh. So a fancy phone, for specific people, but I would at least love to have it displayed since a lot of our phones are the same boring ones all the time
Asus implements audio and energy management much better than any brand I have used.
Audio: Sabre dac for headphone amp, quad-dac for inbuilt speakers.
Energy: Bypass Charging, Reverse Charging, Dual battery Parallel charging, Separate Parallel charging from two ports, Steady Charging option, Limit Charging option to 80%, failover power when one battery fails etc etc. They can supply with shitty batteries like samsung and iphone and still be able to maintain battery health for years.
For one, I had badly dropped my rog5 few months ago and one of the two batteries got totally disconnected while another was connecting loosely. My phone was running on a single 3000mah battery for days before I took it for repairs. And when both were out, I was simply able keep the phone on purely by using a powerbank due to divine bypass charging.
Even funnier, the phone has reverse charging on the other usb-C port!! I was able to charge my temporary feature phone on the side before the power bank came into the picture.
The dual battery setup allows for parallel charging, generating less heat per charge rate and capacity. Heat is the sole reason for lithium battery degradation, including the wear from venturing outside the 20-80% capacity range. Asus had that covered too, with a software option to block charging at 80%
as a user of the ROG 5 Ulitmate. I love it! Granted i am haveing mobile data issues which lucky AUS is being amazing with Support helping me trouble shoot it and get it working again
I like the concept, just the wrong price point. It's too close to a gaming laptop or desktop, for gamers that's more important to spend the money there, but 300-500 with game friendly features like this one to play steam game (streaming) or mobile games with the controller module
Yeah thanks for pointing that out as its like - why spend $1300 on this PHONE when you can spend it on a REALLY GOOD gaming laptop? It just doesn't make any sense
@@Dimondminer11 You can even build a great desktop for it.
@@Dimondminer11 are there places you take (can take) your phone that you don't take your desktop, a gaming laptop, a handheld, a tablet? Even if the answer for you is no, the answer for others is yes. Nothing is as little as carrying only your phone. The answer is in the mobility of your phone. Now some handheld obviously as portable, or nearly, but it's still an extra thing to carry that only does one unnecessary thing (or the thing it does best), play games.
Obviously, when shopping for a phone, you aren't shopping for a laptop or desktop. Who's daily carrying a desktop & a power station, etc? How many people do you actually see gaming on the go with a gaming laptop, on transit? In line at the store? In the restroom? At work? In restaurants? In the bar? At a party (obviously not a LAN party) ? Maybe at college. Hiking? Camping?
The thing is people are willing to pay obscene amounts of money for phones, compared to obviously more capable computers. $300 is a budget phone. $500 is a low midranger. You're not going to find additional features of interest to a niche group for less money than a mainstream product without them.
if asus made a cooler like this one that is compatible for all phones, ppl would be buying that essential accessory, especially iphone users.
9:53 i don't really get why people complain about this type of bezels. i barely even notice those. 🙂
True. I even appreciate them. Cuz with a phone without bezels on top an bottom, my hands will cover a portion of the screen. Which is annoying.

It also has pretty much no bloatware and doesn't require a ROM to get the most out of it. Something I really hated with Samsung phones. The only pre installed software on my ROG 3 was the Armoury Crate and again unlike Samsung I have far more control over the phone, features & OS.
I have the 3 as my daily, I rarely play games on phones and I freaking love it! Upgrading to this model when it's available here in AUS.
This is the first time Riley reminds me of Unbox Therapy holy shit the resemblance during the unboxing is insane 😂
(Talking about behavior not looks)
Xbox game pass has a lot of cloud gaming options that work pretty good on the ROG5. The only con is that the screen is smaller than a Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. But with a Bluetooth controller it functions just as well in my experience.
If just cloud gaming, there's a lot of mid range options out there like samsung's galaxy A/M series. You won't need the RGoG phone's specs so you can save a few hundred bucks. One more benefit is you can use a razer kishi to make the phone switch-like which is unfortunately incompatible with the RoG phones due to the bottom usbc's placement. (there's still the kunai but that's extra $$$ you have to mind and its availability... and it's only compatible with rog phones...).
I've turned into an asus fan boy so I've been eyeing the rog phone for a but was disappointed with the rog 5's additional fragileness with its design so I'm currently rocking a mid range samsung m52. It worked well with game pass+razer kishi and other popular online games.
I like Riley, but I think there are a couple of different people I'd rather see review these types of phones.
Couldn't agree more. He's not a bad guy, but he's humor is kind of annoying, especially when you are actually interested in said product.
Like maybe Brandon who actually understands why Sony sensors are important and would be smart enough to see the 'washed out pictures' were actually a side effect of the phone brightness being at 30%

Also The new cooler from RP6 is rumored to be compatible with RP5, which is nice, since side buttons on the old cooler easily break.
Why did nobody get the non-pro model? It's 90% the same but a much better value.

I use the ROG5 love it, love how quick everything is. I have connected an Xbox controller to it a couple times for gaming and it works but i don't game that often on it. If you use you phone to check out stock charts the 5 works pretty well. Loads everything fast and i don't notice lag when switching between apps. Admittedly I'm hoping the ROG7 comes out before I feel the need to upgrade. But I'd get the 6 if I didn't have the 5
Good to know. I’m looking at my options.
@@hzzzzz1 I got the base model for $600 over a year ago. There's some tiny scratches on the screen that I can see when the phone is off. I don't have a screen protector on it, so I'd recommend getting one if you care about that. I'm also concerned about the lack of water resistance but haven't run into any problems because of it.
It charges crazy fast on the charger it comes with but there's a lot of battery health software built in for slower charging, limited charging, ect that makes me feel like the phone will last longer than my last phone, (Samsung note 8). So far the ROG5 has been my favorite phone and I'll will be sticking with asus for my next couple phones at least. But I don't really go for apple products. I bought the 5th one last year, and then one day out of nowhere the wifi chip died. No wifi in a phone is a death sentence for me, and with the phone out of the warranty period nothing could be done. 11:45 Were you referring to the iPhone missing mid frequencies that the ROG 6 filled out? Because to me it sounds like the ROG 6 has more fidelity in the lower-mids while the iPhone just sounds anemic. The iPhone especially sounds anemic outdoors when that somewhat impressive lower end doesn't come through. If the ROG 6 is anything like the prior model, there's a whole bunch of settings and tweaks to tune the speakers to your liking, and even an outdoor mode that boosts the volume and makes it sound more compressed (louder) kind of like how the iPhone sounds out of the box. Like 512gb isn't enough
No expendable storage, trash 1080p resolution, low maximum brightness so actually playing on a sunny day is impossible, sound quality is isn't that great, already big phone requires a very big attachment for proper gaming, I'm probably missing a few things too.
Either way, $1300 for a phone that's this lacking is just trash. It looks coo, but doesn't live up to 'gamer' quality at all.

@@SmokinTsChannel Seems like you don't quite understand. This is advertised as a 'gaming' device. When phones have been 1440p since like 2014, a pathetic 1080p resolution for a 'gaming' phone is complete and utter garbage. Sound quality is just above average which isn't quite good enough either. And there wouldn't be a cooler if it didn't need one for heavy gaming sessions.
If you buy this piece of crap, you're not much of a gamer. My 3 year old phone has better graphics because it has a much better resolution.
I think I'd pay $1k if only it came with expandable storage, it's amazing they missed something so basic. 512GB just isn't enough. Plus it might be missing some other things not covered here.
Really depends on the person i guess. I have no clue how i fill up the 128gb i have now.
One thing people often forget is it's more than just storage, it's a backup, if something should happen to your phone everything that isn't synced over the cloud or something is just gone, if you save your pictures to an sdcard then you can be sure that they'll be safe and make it to your main cloud / whatever backup, plus it makes managing music or other media a lot easier, especially since google massively handicaps file management apps without root access, with good reasons of course but still non-rooted Android is mildly aggravating.
@@vgamesx1 I wouldnt trust sd card as my backup storage... (had several died)
and plugging ext harddisk is so easy with all usb c world right now
@@vgamesx1 sd card is easy to break if you have picture or something important just copy it to your pc or external harddisk
I don't know how you could break a microSD unless maybe you got knockoff. My microSD on my galaxy note 3 is at least 6yo maybe 8years and still fine. I love having microSD(expandable storage) but I'm willing to compromise on the new ROG for great battery size and management, 2 ports and even has a headphone jack. No need for the pro version though.
Shots fired with that close up chockobo figure pics
I remember years ago when I could afford a thousand dollar phone just to game. Now I cant afford game pass yet Im much happier (went from working 15h a day and far away from home all the time into a 4h part time).
Well at least I enjoy free videos like this one xD
Mental stability is way more important than what seemed like hell before.
High performamace plus a headphone jack really sold me on this device.
you can get sony xperia at that price
@@averagejoe6890 Well, is always good to have more options.
All that to barely even beat a non cooled iPhone in maybe the rarest of occasions. Seems a bit gimmicky
@@zethloveless7238 headphone jacks are gimmicky?
@@yourfatboy5359 gaming phones are a gimmick when you can just get a good flagship now for a better price and will run nearly the same on games and outperform this thing everywhere else.
Video like this is where I hope Anthony is the host. He just so much more knowledgeable and brighter when it comes to things like this.
lmao love your channels my friends. What I'm really getting out of these ROG phone videos is that they're very capable machines that are too complicated to demo a game on bwahahahha Riley you are charming, and the Short Circuit hoodie is dope af Sarah and the team did good work
The box reminds me of Auldey Race Tin lol. Ahhh good old times.
Someone should have really copied those links from trello :D
More than a phone, it seems Asus wanted to make a handhled gaming console. In this area there are better alternatives such as the Steam Deck or the Ayaneo.
Can they call? Do they have whatsapp? Do they have all other android apps?
this is a trash video. you would think they would try a 8+ 1 gen phone video for few hours. this man doesn't even look interesting in phone tech or phones. looks like forced job. no testing on heavy games, no fps charts or proper gaming result compared to iphones. "oh they say thison website, okay let me try this phone for few minutes and conclude my review."
@@DX88 it does everything your phone does . it is a great android phone altogether which is more gears towards gamers.
@@ridhamh2966 Steam Deck and Ayaneo have simcard slots and android OS?
11:05 that hoodie really is COOL LOOKING but too warm for Hawaii lol... hmmm might have to get one for travelling
Some people say all this power and gaming stuff isn't necessary since other phones can do it... but that's not exactly true. I have a flagship phone from last year with a Snapdragon 870, I play a competitive mobile game every day called Knives Out and my phone can barely run it. There's a 120fps option which I would love to use but it lags like crazy, so I'm stuck on "balanced" quality and a stuttering 60fps. I'm sure this phone could handle it pretty well.
can't wait to play the 3 games that are even remotely worth playing on this phone versus any other!
it's almost like mobile games are optimized to run on average hardware and don't need insane specs to perform well 🤔
Railey is simply the most entertaining from all crew on this channel, great video, with great sense of humour as always.
This guy is Chris Evans if he became a nerd instead of captain America.
those L and R air triggers made me want to try out some of those older retro style games that allowed you to move the camera with the l1 and r1 triggers on the playstation. it makes me wonder if there is a game out there for mobile phones where you are auto-running but can pan the camera with the triggers as you tap on enemies to destroy them.
Riley is not a good host for phones especially for gaming phones, should have let linus host this one.
I don't think Linus has that much of an experience on gaming phones either, LMG is severely lacking in that niche imo
cant imagine my phone being my main gaming platform
It’s super common in Asian countries where building a pc can be out of reach for consumers. It’s not for me either but I’d rather have mobile gaming than nothing at all. There’s still a few gems in the app stores if you know how to dig.
They have good games coming out now. Activision's Warzone Mobile is currently in development. Expected to come out in late 2022. Apex Legends mobile was just released two months ago and it's a very good game, very similar to regular Apex. Also it's very popular in Asia.
Wait until you hear about our sponsor, Wraith Shadow Legends. One game to rule them all
Glad you didn’t need to live in a second world country, where mobile gaming is more affordable for us
I don’t get much time to game, especially traveling a lot, and though my phone isn’t my main rig, it’s probably with what I game the most.
Seems great as a daily driver, doesn't even have to specifically just game on it. I like that it has an audio jack, and TWO type C ports! I like having microSD, but with this phone I am willing to compromise. And the software from asus for battery management, using it while plugged in and bypassing the battery means longer lifetime for the battery. If I had the money, and this version is cheaper than I was expecting considering the previous versions pricing, I would buy this! The price is the only problem I have. Haha
"AS Coating" = 'anti-sweat'...
...basically antiperspirant for their display.
AKA, 'Display Deodorant' if you will...
Also, Team Group has a campy theme song with music video 😆
Thank you for mentioning chocobos!
that's literally the first time i saw merch and went holy SHIT NICE good job guys
pretty sure i'm gonna buy that you guys ship to Italy right
6:18 Slash USD... OUCH!
Honesetly... as an almost poor man I bought the regular ROG 5 after your video on it and I'm not disapointed at all. I love it. OFC I'm not gonna just buy 6 because there's nothing wrong with my 5 but when it's time comes I'll definitely gonna just buy the latest ROG at that time.
I really like asus phones because it's really easy to get replacement parts (mainly battery and screen but also case part and more) in France so i've been rocking a zenphone max pro m2 since launch
11:00 Air-Triggers are like 2 touch pads instead of 2 real buttons. It means better water resistance. If it works, other brands should copy that. They should put a different material or at least a different texture where the Air-Triggers are. Apple should bring Force Touch back.
PS: They are ultra sonic, sorry.
6:17 smooth comment on the euro
I agree, I should buy *PRODUCT NAME* (AS MANY AS LISTED), and that I should search my Trello for any vendor links. Maybe update that?
I thought it was gonna be trash, Those Specs are actually great. Give me A Head phone jack on every phone. With the extra Peripherals is honestly a better deal than a IpHoNe.
Specs are always good but they don’t tell the whole story. Look at any solid spec $300 Chinese phone. This isn’t much different it’s mostly gimmick.

The bezel is fine. I like the front-facing speakers, and no notch in the display.
Wanna swap it with my Nokia? 😂 Yours may break fps records but mine breaks anything 😂
3:13 was that *the best* segue or what!
So, a month later, the Zenfone 9 also doesn't have wireless charging, and has a much smaller battery. So any Asus fans should be looking at this fella at the flagship price point. A 20% premium for 50% more battery sounds like a dumb investment in old people terms but since they're not hot swappable it becomes a worthwhile upgrade.
10:20 is that a linus pillow in the background?
Mooooooom Riley keeps bullying the republic of gamers 😭
The thing that absolutely kills it for me is the mere 2 years of software support. At that price tag, I'm expecting to be able to use it for at least 3-4 years. After all, I don't need to replace my other electronic devices (desktop, laptop, console, TV, my _current_ phone) every 2 years.
Really hope it will make a version that has card slot... Not that it is on higher ipx rating....
Not gonna happen, it's already been 5 years since the first ROG Phone was released and none of the previous models offered SD card compatibility
The best about it is the headphone jack, which already makes it one of the best options today.
The most sarcastic review ever? Love it.
Why did my brain read "a sus phone"
this is the funniest and most amazing channel in my opinion
Asus, the LG of the phone world. Hope they keep trying unlike the other juggernauts like apple or Samsung
Riley, my Chocobo and I are coming after you. You'd better PRAY I don't rally my server :P
Kid me would have loved that box to use as some kind of cryogenic chamber or whatnot for my action figures.
