Th350 won't shift

- My transmission takes forever to upshift into 2nd gear. Took out the governor to inspect and found the piston rod was stuck. Took a part the governor and cleaned. Will make a follow up video. Thanks
Well I just want to know did it work and show some more of that beautiful card you have my grandpa had one it was yellow and I love that right now I have a 87 Monte Carlo LS with 350 Turbo and having the same issue the guy I bought the car from said that the transmission was just built less than a hundred miles and he told me to just drive it at the time I did not care if the transmission was bad or not I want this car so for the past 6 months I've been manually shifting and it works fine I had change the modulator valve did not work next thing I try will be that the governor gear cool video and make a video of it working thanks I hope it works out good for you God bless
My problem was the opposite, mine would start out in second and not shift back into first at a stop. 1st worked if you pulled the shifter all the way back. Anyway read somewhere else it could be the governor... took it out had no idea what I was looking at, saw your video and sure enough, the piston wasn't moving. Cleaned it up, got it moving put it in, problem solved! Thank you!

Check the governor bore in the transmission case, sometimes it can wear grooves in it. The bore should be smooth, you shouldn't be able to feel any scratches. There is a tool to bore out this passage, then you drive in a new repair sleeve. Trash in fluid scrubs out this and other parts of trans. I would tear it down and R & R the wholes trans, replace converter, flush out or replace cooler.

Tx for the video.I also have a 350 trans on my 81 Eldorado. I too have recently got weird gear change characteristics. How and where do you access the governor? Do I have to drop the pan or is it behind a cap on the side? Need special tools? Can you please show a video or stills of the extraction and installation . If I can cure this issue I will leave you a gold mine in my will. So far I don't have any but am working on it.

If its still not shifting right, did you try the modulator as well? Or did you only clean the governor?

can you shift up th350 manually without any damage? I usually coast to neutral at highway speeds. does it hurt anythin?
aerolift no it wouldn't hurt anything as long as you don't over rev your engine
Hey I have a 350 turbo transmission problem that don't shift with I put it in drive I change the filter on it and put new fluid and it still ait shifting out
Might just need to be replaced if it's not moving. If it's not shifting then governor might be the issue

Make sure fluid level is correct and dipstick isn’t faulty.
Looking at buying a car with a 350 trans, guy says torque converter is bad but how can I tell if its just the torque converter or other trans issues?
OrganicbacOn I would listen for noises when engine is on and in gear. Also smell the fluid at look at it. Should be red not brown and should smell like trans fluid, if it smells like smoke or burned the trans might be bad altogether.
gearheadforlife 50 yeah, its hooked to a 383 dart block so maybe he blew the trans and idk if itd still be worth buying it then
OrganicbacOn well I guess it depends on your budget and what you think is a good price. A build th350 is 1400 and can handle 700hp. A stock rebuilt th350 costs around 700 so if that's in your budget I would go for it. A dart blocked 383 is expensive and awesome
gearheadforlife 50 yeah I've heard they're fun and nothing seems wrong with the engine, if I could rebuild it for around that I think its worth it. Its an 81 regal limited for 7k but idk if thats a good price
OrganicbacOn well regals are a dime a dozen and are cheap. The 383 is the value in that car. A 383 with a dart block can cost 5k by itself. You can always transplant that engine and the trans into a cooler body later on like a truck or muscle car. You can get nice stock regals for 2k all day
hey mister i have th350 its shift when its cold but when its gets hot it wont shift on D only i have reverse what you think?
I had a different trans that had that same symptom. Unfortunately i had to replace it as the clutches were bad and seals were too. When it was cold all was tight but when hot it would let go and have no forward gears

Sorry man on my next video I say that I completely lost reverse so I needed to replace. I replaced it with a built unit.
