  • I repair a TH350 governor in this clip. Note that the TH350's governor is not interchangeable with a 700R4 or TH400 governor without significant modification. I mention this because the TH350 governors cost roughly 3x as much new as a standard 700R4 governor.

    Yo, I lost the governor springs on my c6… I’m trying to find new ones but it’s tricky. Is there anyway you can do this for a c6 😬🙏🏻

      Yo. Sorry to hear...Your best bet is a junk yard or transmission parts supply shop as both places should have good used governors - just bring your existing casting so you can match the application (3rd character, which is always a letter, in the casting number on the governor body).
      There are no known kits for modifying a C6 governor however you can DYI to adjust shift points however it's not something I've ever done so can't really tell you how to go about doing so...If you want to increase the engine speed for part-throttle shift points, you can adjust the modulator via tightening the screw clockwise...You can also install a longer modulator rod (appx 1/16" longer) for later, firmer shifts.
      I believe Broader Performance sells modified governors to fit specific applications and shift point preferences, may want to check their website for more info if you need to re-calibrate as well as recover lost springs (he may have those as well).

    I have a strange clicking noise from the rear of the transmission. In every gear, neutral as well. Transmission works flawless but the clicking is constant and gets faster with speed. But not absolutely constant. Could it be the governor? It really sounds like the same clicking noise. Thanks!

    • @nickstransmissions
      @nickstransmissions  Год назад

      Check it to be sure but governors are generally not known for being noisy. Also check for anything around your front and rear wheels, driveshaft or anything else that would vary with engine RPM/road speed.

      @@nickstransmissions very strange, just had my governor cover of, and its definetly the governor. It seems so open once every revolution. When i take the governor of it closes very easily, is there supposed to be more tension on the springs?

    • @nickstransmissions
      @nickstransmissions  Год назад +1

      There are different springs and weights available for the governor and it's possible that someone may have swapped in some lighter springs and weights to raise the shift points. Generally, the heavier the weights and stronger the springs, the earlier the shift points will be and vise versa.

    Really dumb question, but do I need to drain the fluid before I pull the governor or is that part of the trans devoid of fluid when it's not running?

    • @nickstransmissions
      @nickstransmissions  Год назад

      Hi Brent, no need to drain the fluid from the pan, just have a small container under the governor as some fluid will come out when you take the gov cover off.

      @@nickstransmissions If I could ask one more question sir. My TH350 won't shift in to third gear after warming up for a couple of minutes. When I first start it up and start to drive it, it starts automatically downshifting from third to second and eventually won't even shift into third at all. I pulled the pan and there was what appeared to be clutch material in the pan. Think that third gear is going out or is it the governor or something in the valve body? I have already changed the modulator, the filter and put in a new steel vacuum line to the manifold. Thanks in advance for any insight you might have.

    • @nickstransmissions
      @nickstransmissions  Год назад

      Sorry to hear, man. Time to pull the unit and rebuild it. Clutch material is, well, clutch material and seeing a fair amount of it in the pan simply means one or more applied clutch packs are burning. Nothing will fix it short of an overhaul.

    will the governor cause it not to shift into third gear? It shifts from first and second only no third gear. thanks any help is greatly.

      Hi Mopar507, it can but could also be the modulator, detent (kick-down) or 2-3 shift valve sticking. How many miles on the trans since either new or last rebuild? When did no 2-3 upshift starting happening? Any recent work done on the trans?

      @@nickstransmissions to my knowledge no work has been done. i replaced the modulator and governor with new fluid and filter also new radiator. When adjusting the modulator Is it counter clockwise to shift early? I turned it two turns clockwise but no improvements. Thank you for your advice!

      Ok...just to be clear - is the transmission hanging up in 2nd gear and simply not shifting or is it shifting but it feels like you're in neutral when you are supposed to be in third?

    • @mopar507
      @mopar507 10 месяцев назад

      @@nickstransmissions Yes it’s staying in 2nd gear but it seems to go into third as soon as i let off the gas but as soon as i put pressure to gas pedal it will not go into third, I know because at low speed i can down shift into second gear manually.
