Babe , send the Kids to the Neighbours , we got 9 Hours of Zak to Watch
I brought my pillow and blanket I'm ready
Babe, why is child protection service at our door?
Zak's signature phrase before the DLC: "Hello fellow survivors!"
Zak's signature phrase after the DLC: "I hear ptarmigans"
lol true
This is facts 🤣
I haven’t been sleeping well due to some health issues. This is exactly what I needed.
This guy is ambien in human form.
just imagine the canam 411 pöstäiR ^? ^
The knowledge you've given this community has been much appreciated. My interloper game has improved immensely thanks to your guides.
Thank you so much. It is much appreciated and glad your game has improved :)
I ate the new Zak's Trail Mix food at 100% condition and it still gave me food poisoning 😂 You're giving the tin of sardines a run for its money
Thanks for this man. I just tried Interloper again and died after 3 in-game days due to a Wolf attacking me when I ran out of torches and had 20% condition left. Currently on Day 143 on my Voyageur run though.
Thought I was about to be productive today, but now this video exists so...
1:00:15 I love how Bob Ross transcends geography.
yes!!
This tutorial is a prime example for skill and knowledge letting tough challenges look elegant and almost effortless.
Almost 9 hours long! I think know what I'm gonna be watching for the rest of the day lol. Love the vids
This will give me a solid week or more of falling asleep to material! Thanks, Zak!
oh, ok... guess my productive day is over. "let's dive right in!"
went out hiking and made some of Zack's Trail Mix. Been stuck in bed for 4 days now with no energy. 10/10 would definitely recommend. Lol
i do fall asleep to your vids, but only after i actually watch them first! you have a very calming voice, and thats not a dig!
Me too. I never sleep to one I haven't seen yet.
Me too! I always watch it and experience the content first, then throw on any long series to sleep lol. I’m sure it helps the algorithm a lot too with persistent viewership (aka watching episodes in their entirety as opposed to watching 5 minutes and clicking away) and helping Zak with the algorithm is a very nice bonus :)
Zack 's trailmix sounds good. LOL So gar this comprehensive walkthrough is proving helpful to me. Hushed river valley has been daunting to me so after watching you I feel more confident. Thanks!
Dang I just died on my 20 day interloper run with a close quarters wolf attack… after my bear mauling earlier that day 😂
Your videos have always succeeded in dragging me back to this game, and making it one of my all-time favourite experiences, so thank you for all your hard work 👍
Thanks for that tip on goating down to the gold mine. I was afraid it could be a death drop. Always learning somting new. Thanks agian.
Zaks trail mix sounds like an in game item..
The variant rifle that spawns in AC on lower difficulties is actually the Curator’s Rifle, Barb’s is found in CH. also possible spawns for the rifle other than the one you mentioned is:
A) Behind a tree next to a corpse at Wolf Jaw Overlook
B) Beside the corpse just outside the goldmine where you went to grab feathers. I’ve never seen a revolver spawn there but I didn’t play before the loot tables changed so maybe it used to spawn there.
C) in a tiny cave on a ledge at the peeks of AC. It’s an absolute pain to find.
D) on a different ledge on a different peak in AC, also a pain to find.
So if you want to find the curators rifle you hope it’s in one of those 3 easy spots on the goldmine route lol
the Curator's rifle paired with the holster 😍
The new trail mix recipe could be acorns, rosehip, chocolate bar, granola bar
love this idea! should name it after Zak too :P
That would be an awesome new DLC recipe !
Binge watching Zaks videos for a whole night is some great experience
You can climb exhausted. Just stop on a ledge, let your sprint/climbing meter refill, even if it is all red. Encumbrance is now the issue, drop out stuff to get below your encumbrance level so that you can use the rope and now climb the last bit exhausted. This is where crampons excel. ;)
I've learned so much with your previous Interloper guide. You're not just an expert player, but also an excellent teacher.
love how he explains WHY you should do certain things rather than just "it's the best option"
Rather than watch before I go to bed, I usually listen while Im also playing TLD and its the perfect background noise. Except for when there are wolves in ether game because I can never tell right away if im about to lose my run or if I should be looking over to the video to watch Zak defend against the wolves XD
Thank you Zak. I love your videos and always learn a few new things. Well done and I'm looking forward to the next one. Starting Road to 500 Days now. ;)
2:16:04 on interloper I always visit homesteads respite, because there is usually very good loot, like Combat Pants and food
Right on time! Booted up TLD after a long pause and ready to get back into Interloper. Now on Day 3, watching your video's in between! 🙏😁 Absolutely love your guides and tagging along with your Loper runs.
Thank you Zak, i started my 1st interloper run. Spawned in black rock which im leaving asap lol but thank you for the help. Glad you and your little ones are feeling better bud
Zak's trail mix would be a nice lil addition to the game! Anw I saw this pop up on my feed recently, so I ended up wanting to pick up The Long Dark again haha. I'm far from the best survivor, my knack for losing all sense of direction is quite something, but I'm happy to say I was able to grab the Moose Hide Satchel from HRV in less than an in-game week (spawned in Mountain Town)! Voyager difficulty since it's what's comfy for me. Your tips have helped me a lot; I've fended off wolves and avoided freezing to death multiple times. I appreciate your content very much! Before watching any of your vids, I basically had no idea what I was doing and would die within a few days lol.
Not sure if its been said, but if no deer carcass in that cave in AC, just exit and re-enter, it will be there!
It's super cool that they added a "Zak's trail mix" recipe!
Haha if only
This is the video I needed! I should have known you’d have something like this!
Always helps to have some of Zak`s trail mix to chew on,
when heading for Timberwolf mountain :))
watched the whole thing, love your interloper early-mid game walkthroughs
Watched it all and really enjoying your current run to 500!
I love this game I love your playthroughs your videos I wish that my laptop was up to snuff I'd be playing it, I can't believe there's still people that's doing videos for this game keep up to good work man I watch all your videos
Just finished up, thanks for this was a great watch!
The things I would give to personally hire you to lull me to sleep. Anyways, I fully watched the video this time! Going to try my hand at interloper now thank you so much I’ve always been too scared to
I was wondering what all the comments about "Zak's Trail Mix" was all about 😂
Gotta love that trail mix!
Liked before watching as it’s gonna be good for sure
Can’t wait for them to add Zak’s Trail Mix into the game
Nice video👍🏾
8:45:43 loved this! Thank you Zak! I hope to eat some Zak’s snacks sometime soon!
this is the type of content i want to see on youtube

Great tips! I have over 1,000 hours on TLD pretty much all on Stalker, need to make the leap to Interloper one of these days and test my skills.
Love watching a Zak video with some good Zak's trail mix at my side!
I really like the Interloper mode. I started yesterday and found a Mackinaw Jacket right away in the safe in Hibernian. Everything is great. I like the challenge, the weather, the scarcity of loot-pretty much everything except the DLC food items for cooking. It’s possible not to find everything for the recipe, which is so frustrating
It actually does matter where you click on the fire to get torches.
If you are lucky and grab a good 40-50% quality torch, if you remember the spot you got it for that fire, you can keep getting similar quality torch at that spot.
Same as for bad quality. If you grab a 26% ish quality torch, and keep picking from the same spot, the quality will always be about 26% quality.
Sounds like a mythbusters test. I dont think its true as pulling 10 torches from the same place yields various results
So, in my 6400 hours of experience, it's the minutes that determine the percentage of torches, but the number varies from run to run.
For example, if you pull a good torch at 36 minutes left on the fire, you'll get another good torch at 26 minutes and again at 16 minutes.
Looking forward to mythbusting lol
@@LadyQxx interesting, also worth testing
@@Zaknafeinthe "torch goodness" map on the campfire (or barrel or stove or what have you) can have some very sharp variations so you can have widely differing results just a handful of pixels away. When I have some time and firewood to spare, I try to find a memorable ember imprint on the campfire, and poke around it pulling torches. This could actually be a cool showcase of how to use statistics to tell whether a success is just luck or a true finding.
Just started a new run, glad this came about. Got my bow and 4 arrows and started my hunting.
The issue with the guts creating 3 stink lines is for some reason scent is based on amount of stacks. So a stack of 10 guts smells the same as one single gut, but since all four of your guts were different conditions (aka from 4 different animals picked up at 4 different times) it treats your four guts like 4 stacks of guts. “Stacks” = inventory slots. I think the largest a stack of guts can get is 12 from a moose kill, 10 for Bears. So with the way the game calculates scent you had 4 factors of stink since your guts took up 4 slots so you could have had 4 stacks of 12 and the game would have perceived your 4 guts in this play through the same as 48 guts if stacked properly lol. If you kill and fully harvest only the guts from 4 deer or 4 wolves you’ll have 4 stacks of 2 guts, which equals 4 stacks of smell. Hinterlands definitely needs to fix this lol. A great “exploit” to deal with this current algorithm they’re using in regards to “small pies” is to drop all of your rabbit, venison etc pies that stack. When you pick them back up that will all be in one stack, not several stacks of 3 pies each. So they create 1 scent factor per stack just like guts, but you can stack them into a single stack if you want, reducing the scent they put off. I currently have 16 venison pies in one sjngle stack creating 1 stink line on my loper save. Unfortunately this doesn’t work with guts
Loved the new loper guide! I watched it while eating zaks trail mix! Im thinking of coming back to tld soon.. This video motivated me to beat my 150 day loper run that i died on!
I havent been much active anymore in the tld Facebook group but i look at it sometimes..
Keep up the good work and i hope that your baby boy plays tld with you someday 🎉 Congrats!
2:04 someone reserved a nice spot in the sun 😅thanks for the nice video!!
Looking forward to sleeping through 90% of this. Love it
Well, I’ve been really busy and haven’t played in a while. Then I started watching this video and I was inspired to start a new run. I hope I find some Zak’s Trail Mix!
outstanding!
Since scurvy was added, i prioritize fishing books tied for 3rd place with fire book, right behind cooking and archery. But i definitely read it as soon as I can.
Zak's Trail Mix - Put that on a t-shirt in your merch store. :D
There is a design in progress :) I might change my merch site, though.
Good job
Little tip for the AC start. When you get to TWM summit, you can make a snow shelter right outside the opening to the plane. You can then make a fire in the opening of plane that will be protected from the wind while keeping you warm in the shelter.
Edit: Made me think that would be a cool challenge for this game. No bedroll or indoor beds on interloper.
I mostly listened to the whole thing, but I had to pause while I had a nap. Zak's trailmix should definitely be a thing! Or the wool socks could be renamed Zak's socks. 😂
whats Zak`s trail-mix ?? 😂 (Bergensk fishsoup? maybe thats what Hinterland should give you a recipe for in the game.. )
Peronly I`d like to see "Norwegian Artic Field Rasion" in the game, but I dont think they have that in Canada 😉
Time to make some popcorn..🎬
It occurs to me, I'd really enjoy seeing Zak play Don't Starve(Together) at some point. I mostly attribute this to Zak's beard, which in Don't Starve terms provides 135 seconds of insulation and is canonically referred to as "Magnificent beard."
Love hearing the intro music again!
Munching on some of my favorite Zak's Trail Mix (Whole Foods of course) while watching
If the Guts is all the same condition percentage, they stack as one pile and "Stink" as one piece of guts. If you have 4 pieces of guts of different conditions they'll be 4 stacks in the inventory, thus 4 smells giving 3 stink lines. Guts are smellier than meat.
I was probably among those (or the only one) who told you there`s no more guaranteed hacksaw in that ice cave. And yes - I was wrongly wrong, learned that by myself in the last run, all still there, just in another spot.
44:00 An additional note, if you grab your pot or can and you wander around, any cooktop will show red when you get close to it, helping to orient yourself that way as well.
Learned Ash canyon recently. Once you do it’s a great region and getting the backpack is way easier than I thought. Stalker day 170. Also went to The summit around day 100 and most of the food was there and still in good condition. Clothes were around 30-40%. Even found a granola bar at 100% around day 100.
Thank you for not taking my towel at 2:04:22 - i put it there to reserve my seat for the next summer so i can enjoy the view.
Best regards from a german viewer - thanks for the sacks trailmix? ;)
Wrote almost the same thing (later, didn’t see you comment) hi also from Germany 👋🙂
DH Dunn mentioned this yesterday and man i still wasnt prepared
Ok ok ok I'm definitely going to finish this by the end of next week 😊 while eating zaks trail mix.
The problem of fall asleep is to find the exakt moment next morning where to start again
Yay long video!!! 😁
I mean, the one item id really love if they added to the game is Zak's trail mix. Plenty of climbers bring trail mix and scattering it along timberwolf mountain, Ash Canyon, and the Milton climbing area I think would fit well 😏
With a bow, a handful of arrows, and a case of Zak's Snacks... the world is my oyster. (Oyster flavored Zak's Snacks). :)
I’m all for such a snack but please with another flavor 😵💫😂
Acorns are also a necessary ingredient in a lot of the best cooking 5 advanced recipes like prepper’s pie or Thompson Family Stew. I usually collect all the acorns I find or I regret it when I come to late game cooking. You need 4 acorns to make 1 acorn grounds and those high tier recipes require 1 each, so you need a lot of acorns if you want to utilize them.
I found out, you can actually kill the whole flock of ptarmigans at once with the bow because even when you kill one, the others don't care and just stay there.
Yes, I demonstrate this later. You can also nuke them with noisemakers
@@Zaknafein Tried a noisemaker once, on a bear, he didin't care at all and ripped me apart 😂But I've learned a lot from your videos, thanks a lot, bro! 👍
How about Zak’s technical backpack. It contains Shakespeare quotes, Norovirus medicine, and Carl Jung books lol. Great video Zak. Very thorough.
Haha and the Jung books have a 100% fire starter chance
Zak’s Trail Mix is so good 😅
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Zak's trail mix sounds good, would love to have some!
ZAK's Trail mix comes with disappearing Moose bites in every satchel
Hello Zak, I like your videos, even though if I can't watch them fully. what do you think of making some more shorter videos or have cut versions of your let's plays? you are the best in the long dark community
I could, but most people prefer the current format. An edited version is possible but I would have to hire an editor for that, as I dont have the time. Whenever I make a video that requires going through the entire footage (e.g. The Mist) it takes absolute ages to do.
A trail mix of a granola bar, cattails and some rosehips would be a cool addition
I really like how Hinterland added a secret food item in the new update - Zak's Trailmix that always gives you food poisoning. It's my new favourite part of the game, just like the teleporting cougar😅
7:25:50 something I discovered is if you get a sprain while trying to place a fire on a slope too steep, if you exit and reload the game (save scum) then the firecamp will be materialised and you can then light it.
Yes, someone once built a bridge of fires this way.
Great video man. Be a lot better if I had some Zak's Trail Mix.
I won't go to the summit without having a hacksaw on hand, and you've got a hacksaw and hammer altogether there. Consider you are really, really lucky at this run. :)
There was a 50% chance. Not that lucky :) hammer would have been at the hut if not there. So these were calculated guesses.
Edit: sorry, I checked and there is a 75% chance of getting a hacksaw on the summit on loper
Zaks Trail Mix, interesting. If I was a developer on this game I would add a Hammer at the top of some random mountain at a Polaroid location called thors hammer. Then you can pick up the hammer and use it like a regular hammer lol.
Zac’s trail mix would be a cool edition to the game!
Really liked Zak's trail mix
I'm partial to the wind speed-penalty perk, simply because I don't find myself sprinting very often as a means to cover lots of ground. Personal preference, of course. That would be a very cool thing to measure, actually: average cross-country speed while sprinting vs non-sprinting, but include the amount of time required for resting. Average it out, going from Ash Canyon/Desolation Point to Forsaken Airfield.
Awesome video,as always!!
Just want to say,as someone who has poor man's version of the game,I think DLC makes thing much easier with Ptarmigans,Travois and extra food. But that is only my 2 cents :)
I bet you can't stay awake for the whole video.
Zachs trail mix 😵💫
Great stuff, very informative. Hopefully this convinces more people that Loper isn't some unbeatable hellbeast but a challenge that can be overcome with the right mix of preparation and mindset. If I -- a longtime Pilgrim/Voyageur player -- can make the jump, anyone can. Also, I enjoyed listening to Zak's Trail Mix, but having "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" playing while climbing to the Summit was a bit on the nose, no?
Haha I dont remember singing that. Did I? I dont even know the lyrics lol
@@Zaknafein No, that was just me riffing on a different kind of "trail mix", as in a music mix for the trail. Give the song a listen if you haven't -- Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell are great.
I have to say, unless you're already very familiar with the map and all the goating tricks HRV is actually the worst place you can spawn. For any newer player it's very easy to get into trouble with wildlife or end up trapped down in the valley with no way out and even if you find the exit cave, if you haven't found matches yet, it's impossible to get through in the dark.
ah finally my sleep video arrived Bedge
Hi, great video as always. Did you notice you forgot to drink before sleeping in the mine?
Oh yeah. Probably missed out on 5% health or so
