    You're right, Annette: it does all come down to the mitochondria. Healthy, thriving mitochondria, almost certain disease-free life. It takes dysfunctional mitochondria to form the basis of any of the chronic diseases we see today, as I understand it.

    I get so mad when I see the chat and how many are still worrying about cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is good, nessecary for human health, new studies are conferming that it is not cholesterol per se, but glycosolated lipoprotiens that are a problem, therefore: high LDL is not a problem when on a ketogenic diet. Please can you do a show on this. A simple internet search should avail you of the research results.

    I lost 40 lbs in 9 months doing keto and OMAD. I switched to carnivore still OMAD, and gained 5 lbs in 1 month. While on keto I was regularly deep into ketosis, sometimes measuring 8+ ketones and maintained a consistent low glucose 70's and 80's. While on carnivore my ketones dropped to as low as 0.8 and my glucose is in the 90's and even over 100. Although I feel great and I have noticeable increased muscle tone, I am having second thoughts about the carnivore diet. My goal was to drop my weight below 159 lbs which would put me on my ideal BMI, but it seems that I am going in the wrong direction with this diet.

    Look on the bright side. Dogs can be good exercise. With three the whole family can be out walking the dogs frequently. Also, robbers are likely to skip your home once the pups grow up to be three large protective dogs. If they stay small they of course still need walking, don't eat as much, are cute and make noise if an intruder enters the home.

    ADolescents have not only more energy (when awake), but they also sleep longer and deeper. Conversely, older people generally get less (or more interrupted) sleep and less energy. I believe you should do a program about the sleep and mitochondrial connections. One thing I have noticed about myself and sleep is that even when I expend a lot of energy in exercise, there are some days when I sleep well after exercise, and some days not, even with the same amount of exercise. So what is going on?
    One would think that you just expend more energy, and your body will give you more rest. But that only works in teenage bodies, not older adults!

    Doc, nice video! One of the main problems with Keto is that a lot of well-known nutrition influencers don’t know the definition of a keto diet and they provide misleading information. I love the way you define keto diets - you actually measure ketones. Many doctors such as Dr. Westman and Dr. Barry define a keto diet as eating less than 20g carbs per day. Lean carnivore is zero carbs and is considered “keto” by Dr. Westman and Dr. Barry. The problem is that they make horrible assumptions that zero carbs guarantees that a person goes into ketosis. A better definition of keto diet is >= .5mmol/L of ketones which is used by many research scientists on published papers. Westman and Barry ignore the fact that protein causes an insulin response. That is why measuring ketones is critical to avoid making bad assumptions. Carnivore may be a wonderful diet for a lot of people, but it is not necessarily keto.

    14:00 Do the weight plateaus on the way down happen in the same places where they occurred on the way up? Is this a coincidence?

    • @Cave_Monster
      @Cave_Monster 8 месяцев назад +2

      Yes, there is a theory that weight plateaus at our previous set points. I think that's when you need to use fasting to sort of "force" the body to lose weight and move down to the next set point. This is my experience right now - I'm only finding weight loss through fasting. I can eat tons of fat and not put any weight one, but I don't lose weight either - food restriction seem to be the only thing my body responds to.

    I think this would be far more effective as a recorded lecture which is edited and then posted on RUclips, vs a live presentation. That way your remarks could be edited to make it more understandable. There are too many digressions, umms, ahhs, ‘hold on a minute’, ‘I think it’s this slide’, etc etc, for this to be understood, not to mention they would be at least ⅓ shorter in time.
    You have so much invaluable information to impart, and it’s too important, for it to be lost in ineffective presentation. Also would perhaps be better not as a ‘live’, unless perhaps opening it up to live Q&A after the lecture portion is complete. Again, you interrupt yourself and get distracted by these questions coming in as well as your own thoughts. Maybe ask for first 10 min where people are viewing from, and then respond to questions all in one segment.
    Imagine a lesson in med school, or any school, with this many distractions for the lecturer, and interruptions from the class. Much too difficult for the viewer, or worse, someone just listening, to track.

      Editing takes a tremendous amount of time. I don't mind watching a longer version and following her train of thought. In fact I believe it makes the video more authentic. There are other videos that are more concise and polished but I find that pure instructional videos repeat the same info without introducing much new info. The question and answer format creates a personal connection and encouragement.

    If people making videos must gesture like a conductor of an orchestra, they can hang the microphone somewhere else outside their body, so they don t make scratchy sound, apart from that I just fast if I think I have gained too much weight, not that it ever happened of course, but fasting 100 hours is not that difficult, if my ancestors could survive and design my body to fight famin I can use the same program to my benefit weight and anti cancer wise.
