A few things: 1. understand that palm strikes only work against an opponent who is not moving relative to yourself 2. imagine the situations where you think you would be able to use palm strikes 3. palm strikes can be straight as well as looping 4. keep your elbow pointed to the floor when you use palm strikes 5. the power comes from contralateral rotation (you strike with the left, the right shoulder rotates back) and from whole body movement 6. strike at the face and the jawline too 7. open palm strikes can also use a chopping trajectory to the jaw, 8. hit behind the opponent's ear too. 8. try double palm strikes to the jawline too
You're doing everything right for your level man. See past what others are saying look at how other people perform their punching style and adapt it don't follow what people say or it will be misinterpreted.
