I remember Richard Head. He was a firm commander that did a stand up job. Really knows how to control his seamen.
I heard he was a hard type who would give you a right buggering if you so much as aroused his ire.
I heard he was hard but fair. Tended to get himself into a tight spot
Richard, don’t call me Dick.
Well, he is, right up to the point he's done his dash. Then he goes as limp as wet celery. When that happens before he's achieved his objective, well, it's pretty embarrassing for all concerned.
Hell of a public speaker though. Ejaculates his points with confidence and force.
Incidentally, i still have the 6 part 2 DVD set of the series Submariners which is onboard HMAS Rankin as she pwns the yanks at RIMPAC,,, even when they cheat and use active sonar.... They pipe "I come from the land down under" through the water and the audio from the hydrophone is glorious! I should really rip it and try and torrent it.
The Americans navy still hate the Collins to this day
Good mission! I've played through dotMod 0.4 Chinese Campaign several times. From experience, ASW patrols were often foxtrot, Han or victor subs, or 2-4 Jianghu and Luda type ships. Chinese commando insertions were common with Foxtrot transports and Kilo escorts. Resupply tenders and amphibious invasions saw DDG type escorts, sometimes with Chengdu DDs or Jangwei frigates. Late game can see Russian interference with Akulas, Sierras, Karas, and Kirovs. I only ever had one SSB mission per campaign at the end of each.
As to the Luda it was based on the old Neustrashimy class destroyer and the Jianghu is based on the old Soviet Riga class... good to see a diesel class run as well as people seem to avoid them...
Love to see the Collins-class sub getting some love. A bit contentious here in Australia but it has at least been iconic

Magz, the Mod 6 IS an ADCAP. Its the second ADCAP version with the Mod 5 being the first.
Another fun fact for the D/E vs Nuclear boat argument is the Nuclear powered ones are more vulnerable in shallow/ littoral waters as they generate a higher infrared / heat signature due to the reactors pumping out cycled water, leaving a warmer trail in otherwise cold water.
Just what I wanted!
Two series simultaneously! Yeah!
30:00 That's why I fire at the target first then alter course. Wire breaks are an absolute b!tch.
Live the captains name 😂😂😂
Watched and 👍 Liked
Richard Cranium (my favorite version of that joke) is great, but honestly I feel like Hugh Jarse from the last campaign would have been a better fit for an aussie commander.
The more cold waters the better
How do I download the latest dot mod version? I've failed on numerous occasions to update my basic game.
I was having problems with voice volume it would become really low hard to hear you. Not if that is on my end or the video.
Ey
On behalf of the rest of the DotMod devteam, thanks very much for showcasing our mod. We hope you enjoy it and we look forward to seeing more of it in action!
Happy hunting,

Dot mod is great my guy. Totally revived this game for me. Thanks for such a fun mod!
@@davidf2911 on behalf of the dev team, thanks very much. Your support, along with that of the other players is why we keep doing this.
We hope you continue to enjoy the mod in the future as well.
Kind regards,

Odo :
"You'd shoot a man in the back?"
Garak :
"Well, it's the safest way, isn't it?"
He'd have made a fine submariner.
Not sure why a submarine needs a simple tailor.
@@aaronhowells5641 A plain and simple tailor at that.
The Mark 48 Mod 6 is the ADCAP. What you get to play with in the '84 campaign is the Mod 4 torpedo. The modmakers just called it by it's designation from BUORD, rather than what sailors call it.
Those poor bastards in the Han. Just imagine putting along having a sneaking suspicion an enemy sub is nearby, then suddenly blowing up. That's flat out nightmare fuel
Probably better than being slowly irradiated... several of those Hans have really bad shielding on the reactors.
@@truckerallikatuk Guess you could say the radiation was the last thing going through their minds
Yeah, between the bad radiation shielding mentioned above, the Han's notoriously loud signature and it's poor sonar suite, the Han's close to the worst sub you'd want to be hunting a Collins in... At least the older Chinese diesel boats have half a hope in hell of hiding.
As Jingles puts it, 'surprise butt sex is the best kind". 😂😂😂
I heard Richard is pretty rock solid under pressure. He won't go limp when it counts. Really knows how to thrust himself into battle hard and fast.
Gets in delivers his load and gets out with out being detected~
Don't know much about Commander Richard Head, but we do know his mother has a serious sense of humor.
Nice seing you helm a diesel electric for a change.
Wich diesel electric sub is your favorite?
Ignoring my default Australian Collins class bias? :P
For modern boats I very much like the design of the Japanese Soryu class.
My favorate of all time are of course the WW2 boats, The US Balao class in particular though the German type VII sits right along side.
Well. I’ll be curious to see what comes of the new nuclear deal Australian submarines. I’m interested to see what they put together.
Astute or Virginia. We are not building our own design, we will be licence building either the UK Astute class or the US Virginia class, decision on which one is planned for Q1 2023 with the first couple of boats being built by the designs parent nation while we get our facilities built and in order to build the rest.
@@MagzGTV Interesting. Very interesting. The politics in that negotiation must be fascinating to watch. I’ll have to brush up on how those two stack up. Also the Tom Clancy version of this campaign featured the SeaWolf. Talk about overkill.
@@elijahsnow3119
Novel titled SSN? USS Cheyenne (SSN-773), 688I-class.
@@_R-R I believe so. It was so long ago I blend things together in my mind.
@@elijahsnow3119
That's ok. Happens to everyone.
You found a Han and it was by itself…there’s a joke here somewhere.
"That was my phone don't bother checking yours" right after I checked mine lmfao
Well that was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. Looking forward to the rest of the series 👍😁
HMAS Rankin's CO is Dick Head???? I had to work under a battalion commander like that! LOL
Cmd. Richard Head? You're under the command of Cmd. Dick Head? Sounds like a real charmer lol
can we have a 1968 campaign with commander Mike Hunt at some point?
This is almost as good as watching red october the first time, much apprciated
Problem, if this is 2000, then if it was realistic you would have to fire from forward as the combat interface didn’t work till 2009.
Could you increase the sound volume for future videos? I have to turn your channel up much louder than any other to be audible (not just this video, the previous campaign as well).
I look forward to your double campaign!
Richard Head, heard he got transferred forcibly to subs from surface ships in a bit of a Richard Relocation by the Admiralty.
Took me a solid 2 seconds to get Rich Head. That's fucking clever, Magz
Super curious, what the control module above the speed - not fitted, 1/2, power button etc.
What are these used for?
That's for the towed torpedo decoy, which is only for surface ships.
13:28
Everyone's on their phones now.
There was once a wonderfully satirical video about the state of the Australian submarine fleet.
Title: "How Royal is the Australian Submarine Fleet? | The Beast File" from the YT channel "Real Human Stories".
To cut a long story short: It is a disaster! Nothing works, an incomprehensible level of misplanning / incompetence and of course way over budget.
There’s plenty of Richard Heads in the ADF 😂
I feel like your sub is louder now than it was in the last 1984 campaign.
September 9th, 2000.
This first battle takes place on my first birthday!
*Every time Mags gets a biological sig*
"No sinka da fishy."
*Yes, whales are mammals. I know this. However, you can argue taxonomically that mammals, indeed all tetrapods, are fish that evolved to live on land, so the whale is still a fish... sort-of. :P
Did anyone else notice that the voice used for the submarine AI readback in this game is the same as the male AI air traffic controller in Microsoft Flight Sim?
That wire broken torpedo on the Han engagement was probably going to end up nailing that poor trawler.
Well, no need to add such things to the logbook. The mission was over after the Han sunk after all.
( Edit, Wrote this before i saw that it was HMAS Rankin,,, LOOOOL!)
offfff, hope it's not Rankin with her crap breakdown-prone diesels and AVRs!
Subs with no towed array have a conical shaped baffle area that extends 30⁰ on either side of the course line. Any object whose distance from the course line is less than half of the distance to the sub will be within the baffle area.
Honestly kind'a not surprised how deaf the Han was, looking at some information on it, now granted it was the Chinese first attempt at a nuke boat but they apparently were noisy as a university frat party and deaf as a post.
glad to have found you again, this time i hit the subscribe so i dont screw up again. missed your content. at least i have have a heap to catch up on.
13:21 mk48 mod 6 are in fact adcaps hell the mod 5 was considered the first adcap.
Only a few classes are made by chine like the Xia class, Ming, Song and i think that's it
Nice a diesel electric
How stealthy do you want to be
D/E SUB : YES
Edit : Richard Head huh 🤣
Alot of your diesel electrics are far more quiet than a nuclear powered
They need to change to aussie accents for the crew!
And British accents for the RN boats. One of the things that keeps me from doing an RN campaign honestly.
In aesthetics Han outshines Collins in my opinion, but I'd much rather be sitting in the latter than the former.
Hi mate, really enjoy your videos. 👍
ACHEIVMENT EARNED: Sea Ninja
Yo make it look so easy i tryed the sim and go my ass kiked so hard ...
is it just me or is the compression on this video *crunchy*? I wonder if youtube just doesn't like Cold Waters or if it has it out for Mags specifically.
RUclips get's nasty with the re-compression algorithm on these videos from time to time. It really doesn't like dark and anything in the blue spectrum.
This should be interesting…
Good Ol Collins class - Aussie designed and built.
what are the Capellon's up too ?
29:36 can’t have SHIT in the ocean
Magz, always like your _Cold Waters_ vids! S.China Sea is a challenge, and you've chosen a D-E boat to ramp the diff. Never seen the DOT Mod in action, so look forward to it. Does their definition of "Diesel Electric" include the various exotic AIP (Atmosphere Independent Propulsion) projects (like the Sterling Engine) that were begining to pop up?
Great to see you try out a diesel-electric.
Having Played cold waters a bunch, albeit not with the Collins, how is 138.4db @ 5 knots quiet for any sub? Doesn’t the narwhal run at like 105-110db at that speed? Just curious to hear what others think.
Good one todday Magz
Well I've bought Cold Waters on the basis that I have enjoyed watching your various series playing.
I haven't obtained dotmod yet as I assumed learning the basic game first was for the best. If that's incorrect, anyone, please feel free to correct me.
Anyway, I wonder if playing the Collins in the South China Sea is easier than a large US nuclear boat?
pretty sweet bushwhack on the Han, pity about the loose torp, I'd have been concerned the loose torp might have gone for that merchant.
Also, no "Get down Mr Whale!" moment's just yet XD long may that continue ;)
Cleeeeean
Being a diesel electric, does the Collins class subs need to surface periodically to recharge it's batteries and replenish air?
Yes and no, Depends on the time frame you are asking about. The Collins class can operate submerged officially for about 30 days under normal operations without surfacing. The class has onboard oxygen generators that allow it to replenish its air supply for the crew using electrolysis in a manner similar to that of a nuclear submarine. For battery charging between dives, the Collins has a snorkel that can be deployed, under normal operations the batteries can be maintained at full charge for normal operations by running the engines under the snorkel for 2 minutes every 24 hours but as above if it wants to push the battery and is watching its power draw it can last out significantly longer.
@@MagzGTV Being able to stay under water for 30 days and charging your batteries in just 2 hours is really impressive. I might have to take out the Collins class in Cold Waters.
Very cool!
Great to see a Collins
Will be impatiently looking fwd to further updates on this.
Are there also japanese subs in the mod?
Not at the moment.
Guess the torpedo room guys must've drunk a few too many White Fish's and forgot to check the wire lol
Thumbs up immediately after seeing Richard Head
Ah yeah, Commander Richard Head. Heard they erected a statue of him in Sydney recently.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oui, Oui, Oui. Collins boats are great, these days.
Don't know much about the Collins class so this should be interesting
Nice Job commander!!! LOVE your videos!!!
Yeah you are back, predicting the near future!
Why dont you fire in the direction of the target and then steer the torp away, to avoid wasting it if wire breaks?
Happened a few times in the other campaign as well and I kept wondering...
Because should a wire break in such a situation the now unguided torp will spoil any complex attack, it will also draw a direct line between your location and the target meaning any and all counterfire will be heading directly towards your location once the torp is detected.
This is especially important when you only have 400ft of water between surface and sand to manoeuvre in.
Cool, can't wait for more!
Ah, commander cheese head
Love your gameplay but not the western propaganda garbage
@MagzGTV >>> Great video...👍
